The Team:
Our Compliance team plays a critical role in mitigating risk and protecting Upstart's growth and success. As a Compliance & Controls Associate supporting Auto Servicing, you'll lead key compliance workstreams supporting auto lending partnering cross functionally to translate regulatory requirements into practical product and operational solutions. This role will help build and operate the First Line of Defense (1LOD) control environment for servicing, repossession, recovery, and dealer oversight activities — working to ensure our auto servicing processes are compliant, scalable, and examination-ready as Upstart grows. You'll partner in change, build practical controls, and translate regulatory expectations into durable day-to-day operating practices. You'll develop relationships of trust across the organization so your work is a genuine value-add for the business. If you have consumer-lending compliance experience and share our passion for consumer protection, this could be the role for you. This is a First Line of Defense (1LOD) role, embedded within and partnering closely with the Product and Engineering business lines — distinct from Upstart's Second Line of Defense (2LOD) Compliance/Risk oversight functions.
How you’ll make an impact
Help design, document, and operate first-line controls across auto servicing, repossession, recovery, and dealer/channel oversight.
Perform duties tied to auto servicing compliance functions to meet applicable regulatory obligations across loan servicing initiatives and strategies.
Identify compliance issues and support timely, sufficient remediation — reviewing action plans and documentation tied to event closure.
Build and maintain monitoring routines, reporting, and metrics (KPIs/KRIs) that surface emerging risk across servicing and related channels.
Support complaint oversight and translate findings into control and process improvements.
Reduce complex, judgment-heavy compliance requirements into scalable, technology-friendly requirements that business and engineering teams can execute consistently.
Partner closely with Product, Engineering, Risk, Legal, Operations and 2LOD Compliance to strengthen business-owned oversight in support of an OCC-aligned 1LOD framework.
Serve as an internal advocate for compliance, and be fintech-forward — identifying tools and automation that improve the efficiency and quality of compliance reviews.
Prepare and support reporting for the compliance program and the broader servicing organization.
Minimum Qualifications
5+ years of compliance or regulatory experience in financial services, with working knowledge of consumer-protection regulations relevant to auto lending and servicing (e.g., ECOA, FCRA, FDCPA, TILA, GLBA).
Auto servicing knowledge spanning from bankruptcy, repossession, and recovery.
Demonstrated ability to design, document, and implement effective risk and control processes.
Experience working cross-functionally with compliance, risk, legal, and business stakeholders on regulatory or control-related initiatives.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience identifying and supporting remediation of compliance issues, including reviewing action plans and documentation tied to event closure.
Skill simplifying complex compliance work into operational workflows or technology-friendly requirements.
Familiarity with program reporting and use of KPIs/KRIs to monitor compliance performance and risk.
Comfort using tools, automation, and GenAI to improve the efficiency and quality of compliance reviews (with appropriate human judgment and oversight).
Strong communication, organization, and project-management skills in regulated environments.
Self-starter who builds structure and process without waiting to be told what's missing, with fluency in GenAI tools to accelerate documentation and research
Auto indirect lending experience.

Why are you being asked to complete this form?
We are a federal contractor or subcontractor. The law requires us to provide equal employment opportunity to qualified people with disabilities. We have a goal of having at least 7% of our workers as people with disabilities. The law says we must measure our progress towards this goal. Completing this form is voluntary, and we hope that you will choose to do so. Your answer is confidential. No one who makes hiring decisions will see it. Your decision to complete the form and your answer will not harm you in any way. If you want to learn more about the law or this form, visit the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) website at www.dol.gov/ofccp.

If you’re energized by tackling meaningful problems, excited to innovate with purpose, and motivated by work that truly matters, we’d love to hear from you.
The Team:
Upstart's Product Compliance Risk team partners closely with Product, Engineering, Legal, and Risk to build compliance into every stage of the product lifecycle. The team helps deliver innovative lending products while ensuring they meet regulatory requirements and provide a positive customer experience. This role will focus on Upstart's unsecured line of credit product, helping establish the compliance framework that enables the product to scale responsibly.
As the Compliance Risk & Controls Manager, Unsecured Line at Upstart, you will lead key compliance workstreams supporting our unsecured line of credit product, partnering cross-functionally to translate regulatory requirements into practical product and operational solutions. This is a First Line of Defense (1LOD) role, embedded within and partnering closely with the Product and Engineering business lines — distinct from Upstart's Second Line of Defense (2LOD) Compliance/Risk oversight functions. You'll help build scalable compliance processes, documentation, and controls that support product launches, operational readiness, and ongoing regulatory compliance while serving as a trusted partner to Product, Engineering, Legal, and Risk.
How you’ll make an impact
Lead end-to-end compliance workstreams supporting Upstart's unsecured line of credit product, including customer disclosures, periodic statements, change-in-terms communications, error resolution requirements, and credit reporting readiness.
Partner closely with Product, Engineering, Legal, and Risk teams to interpret regulatory requirements and incorporate compliant, customer-focused solutions into product design and implementation.
Develop and maintain clear, audit-ready documentation, controls, and governance processes that support internal reviews, partner oversight, and regulatory examinations.
Drive cross-functional compliance initiatives from planning through implementation, coordinating stakeholders and ensuring business readiness for product launches and enhancements.
Monitor compliance-related risks, identify opportunities to strengthen processes and controls, and recommend practical solutions that enable the business to scale responsibly.
Foster a culture of ownership and collaboration by sharing compliance expertise, supporting cross-functional decision-making, and helping teams navigate regulatory considerations with confidence.
Minimum Qualifications
5+ years of product compliance, or risk experience supporting unsecured consumer lending products
Experience interpreting and applying consumer lending regulations, including FCRA/Regulation V and credit furnishing requirements
Experience leading compliance workstreams supporting product launches or major product enhancements
Experience partnering cross-functionally with Product, Engineering, Legal, and Risk teams
Experience developing audit-ready documentation, controls, and compliance processes
Preferred Qualifications
Knowledge of Regulation Z (TILA), Regulation E, and regulations governing open-end consumer credit
Ability to translate regulatory requirements into practical guidance for product and engineering teams
Experience supporting bank partnership or bank-readiness programs
Skills in building scalable compliance documentation and governance frameworks
Experience using collaboration and workflow management tools such as Confluence and Jira
Direct, hands-on experience working on unsecured lending products themselves (lines of credit) — not just familiarity with the regulations that govern them
Strong analytical rigor and attention to detail — reasons through ambiguous regulatory questions rather than defaulting to a checklist, especially under bank-readiness deadline pressure
Self-starter who builds structure and process without waiting to be told what's missing, with fluency in GenAI tools to accelerate documentation and research
Position location This role is available in the following locations: Remote
Travel requirements As a digital first company, the majority of your work can be accomplished remotely. The majority of our employees can live and work anywhere in the U.S but are encouraged to to still spend high quality time in-person collaborating via regular onsites. The in-person sessions’ cadence varies depending on the team and role; most teams meet once or twice per quarter for 2-4 consecutive days at a time.

The Team:
Upstart's Risk team is enhancing its second line of defense function in support of our application to establish Upstart Bank, N.A., a de novo national bank. The Risk team is responsible for Upstart's enterprise risk management program and risk governance, and for providing independent oversight and credible challenge across all core risk categories– including operational risk, third party risk, technology and information security risk, and treasury risk. We partner with first-line business functions, senior and executive leadership, and the board of directors to ensure effective identification, assessment, monitoring, reporting, and control of material risks, in alignment with OCC, FDIC, and FFIEC regulatory expectations.
As the Senior Manager, Technology Risk you will lead the second-line technology and information security risk oversight program for Upstart Bank. You will establish the bank's 2LOD technology risk framework– leveraging and enhancing Upstart's existing technology and information security risk infrastructure to meet bank regulatory standards– and will provide independent oversight and credible challenge of the first-line technology and information security functions across all technology domains, including IT operations, cybersecurity, cloud infrastructure, affiliate-provided technology, and core banking systems. This role reports to the head of third party and technology risk and manages a team of two technology and security risk professionals.

Serve as a primary second-line point of contact for OCC examiners, internal audit, and other external stakeholders on technology risk and information security program topics and inquiries; prepare and deliver technology risk reporting to risk committees, the CRO, and the board.
Build and lead a growing Technology Risk team, shaping how the bank identifies, prioritizes, and responds to its most important technology and security risks in alignment with applicable industry regulations
Partner with first-line IT and cybersecurity teams, TPRM, ERM, Legal, and Compliance to ensure technology and information security risk is integrated into enterprise risk programs, cross-functional risk assessments, and the bank's overall 2LOD reporting and governance structure
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience in information technology, cybersecurity, or a related field
8+ years of experience in technology risk, information security risk management, IT audit, or GRC in a banking or financial services environment

Demonstrated experience applying FFIEC IT Examination Handbook standards and OCC guidance on technology risk and information security in a bank or federally regulated institution
Experience engaging banking regulators (OCC, FDIC, or Federal Reserve) on technology risk, cybersecurity, or IT controls examination matters
Preferred Qualifications

Knowledge of cloud risk management and OCC/FFIEC guidance on cloud computing (OCC Bulletin 2020-46), particularly in cloud-native or fintech-adjacent technology environments
Familiarity with affiliate technology risk oversight, including independent oversight of bank-affiliate technology service arrangements, associated data segregation requirements, and Regulation W implications
Experience with GRC tool implementation or administration in a bank regulatory context
Current professional certification in information security or technology risk management (CISSP, CISA, CRISC, CISM, or comparable)
Knowledge of AI/ML technology risk and related governance considerations in a fintech, lending, or model-intensive operating environment
