Building Healthcare That Remembers
Every time you call a doctor's office, the system forgets you the moment you hang up. You wait on hold, explain everything from scratch, get bounced between lines, and hope someone follows up. Everyone has felt this. No one should have to.
At Assort Health, we're building one continuous conversation for every patient. An AI agent that knows who you are, remembers how you like to be reached, and carries that context from your first symptom to your full recovery. What began as the first voice AI agent to schedule a specialty appointment has become the largest proprietary specialty dataset in healthcare: 240 million patient interactions, 62,000 care protocols, 1.6 million decision pathways.
We went from 15 people in 2025 and will cross 250 by the end of 2026. Revenue is up 20x in 15 months and we've raised $222 million, including a recent $120 million Series C https://www.assorthealth.com/blog/assort-health-raises-120-million-series-c-to-scale-largest-deployment-of-ai-agents-for-the-patient-journey at a $1.2 billion valuation. We've also been named to the Forbes Cloud 100 and the 2026 Enterprise Tech 30 as the only healthcare AI company on the list!

ABOUT THE ROLE
We're hiring Senior Forward Deployed Engineers to own customer deployments from technical build through go-live and optimization. You'll be the technical owner for health system implementations, working directly with customers to build, configure, and deploy production AI agents tailored to their workflows.
You'll work closely with Agent Product Managers who own the customer relationship and project plan, while you own the technical execution—building integrations, creating custom workflows, and ensuring successful launches.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
You'll be the technical force behind bringing AI agents to life for healthcare organizations. This isn't a typical engineering role—you'll work at the intersection of cutting-edge AI, complex healthcare systems, and real customer impact.
Ship Production AI Agents
- Own implementations end-to-end for health systems, from technical scoping through go-live and beyond
- Build custom integrations with complex healthcare platforms
- Design intelligent workflows tailored to each customer's specialty, patient population, and operational constraints
- Launch agents that handle thousands of real patient interactions daily
Solve Hard Technical Problems
- Debug gnarly integration issues across phone systems, EHRs, scheduling platforms, and patient engagement tools
- Architect creative solutions to handle healthcare's complexity—insurance verification, appointment rules, clinical protocols
- Build tooling and automation that makes every future implementation faster and better
- Optimize agent performance in production using real-world data and customer feedback
Shape the Product
- Partner directly with Product Engineering to influence platform direction based on what you learn in the field
- Identify patterns across implementations that become product features
- Work with Sales to scope technical requirements and demo capabilities to prospects
- Be the voice of the customer—you'll see what works, what doesn't, and what customers actually need
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
Required:
- 4+ years of software engineering experience
- Strong software engineering background with a track record of shipping production code
- Proficiency in Python
- Experience with APIs, integrations, and working across multiple systems
- Comfortable with ambiguity and building in fast-paced, high-stakes environments
- Excellent communication skills—you can explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders
- Scrappy, resourceful mindset—you find ways to solve problems even when the path isn't clear
- Passion for healthcare and improving patient access
Nice to Have:
- Experience with healthcare systems (EHR, practice management, patient engagement platforms)
- Previous work in customer-facing engineering, solutions engineering, or implementation roles
- Familiarity with voice/telephony systems (Twilio, etc.)
- Background in AI/LLM applications
- Experience working with enterprise customers

About the role
We are looking for a Security Engineer to help build and strengthen security foundations from the ground up in a fast-moving startup environment. This is a strong opportunity for someone early in their career who brings a generalist security mindset and is excited to work across product security, infrastructure security, detection and response, and enterprise security. The role is designed for someone who wants meaningful ownership, broad exposure, and the chance to help shape how security operates as the company matures. You will partner closely with teams across the organization, help close foundational gaps, and contribute to building a more robust, continuous security program over time. This role is based in San Francisco and follows a 4-day in-office working model.
What you'll be doing
- Help build the company’s foundational security program across multiple domains, with a focus on practical improvements that strengthen overall security maturity.
- Work on cloud and infrastructure security initiatives, helping identify gaps, improve configurations, and support a secure environment in a primarily cloud-based setup.
- Contribute to detection and response efforts by helping establish monitoring, incident response, and related operational security processes as internal capabilities are developed.
- Support product security work, including reviewing code or infrastructure patterns, identifying security issues, and partnering with engineering on remediation.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders across the organization to implement security projects, improve coverage, and drive progress on high-priority initiatives.
- Assist with security efforts related to SOC 2 and help translate immediate audit-driven needs into longer-term, sustainable security practices.
- Evaluate and help implement security tooling, with the flexibility to explore a range of approaches, including modern platforms, open-source options, and AI-enabled tools where appropriate.
- Take ownership of hands-on technical work, scripting, and automation tasks that help the team move quickly and reduce manual effort.
What we're looking for
- A security generalist profile with exposure to several areas of security rather than a narrow specialization.
- Strong interest in infrastructure and cloud security, with the ability to understand technical environments and identify meaningful security improvements.
- Comfort working in a fast-paced startup environment where priorities can shift and the workload can be intense.
- A high degree of ownership, autonomy, and initiative, with the ability to make progress in environments that are still being built.
- Willingness to learn quickly, stay open-minded, and adapt to new projects or unfamiliar problem spaces as business needs evolve.
- Ability to work cross-functionally and build productive relationships with teams across the company.
- Good judgment when balancing immediate security needs with longer-term program development.
- A practical, hands-on approach to security work, with interest in solving real operational problems rather than working only at a policy level.
What you'll Need
- Seeking 2–4 years of relevant experience.
- Experience in at least some combination of product security, infrastructure security, detection and response, or enterprise security.
- Background in cloud security is important; experience with GCP is preferred, though candidates with strong AWS experience are also encouraged to apply.
- Ability to perform technical security work such as reviewing code, assessing infrastructure for gaps, and supporting security automation through scripting.
- Familiarity with environments that rely on modern cloud and SaaS tooling.
- Experience in a startup or similarly fast-growth environment is highly valuable.
- Must be able to work in San Francisco in a 4-day in-office setting.

Forward Deployed Engineer
Assort Health · San Francisco, California, United States
Revenue is up 20x in 15 months and we've raised $222 million, including a recent at a $1.2 billion valuation.
