ABOUT CARTESIA
Our mission is to architect AI that learns from and interacts with the world like humans do.
We're pioneering the model architectures that will make this possible. Our founding team met as PhDs at the Stanford AI Lab, where we invented State Space Models or SSMs, a new primitive for training efficient, large-scale foundation models. Our team combines deep expertise in model innovation and systems engineering paired with a design-minded product engineering team to build and ship cutting edge models and experiences.
We're funded by leading investors at Index Ventures and Lightspeed Venture Partners, along with Factory, Conviction, A Star, General Catalyst, SV Angel, Databricks and others. We're fortunate to have the support of many amazing advisors, and 90+ angels across many industries, including the world's foremost experts in AI.
ABOUT THE ROLE
At Cartesia, the quality of our models is inseparable from the quality of our data. As we push the frontier of real-time multimodal AI, we're looking for a leader to own the systems, datasets, and research that make our training data exceptional.
You'll lead our Data team, responsible for three tightly connected areas:
Data infrastructure — web-scale processing and storage that keeps petabytes of multimodal data flowing reliably to the teams that depend on it.
State-of-the-art pre-training datasets — building the multimodal annotation models that understand who said what, when, and how, and curating the data mixes that shape model behavior.
Data-centric modeling — training and evaluating models to understand what actually makes data good, and turning those insights into better datasets.
You'll start by managing a team of 6–8 spanning core data infrastructure and individual modeling efforts, and grow it toward ~12 as our ambitions scale. This is a role for someone who has done this before: built and led a data team, shipped data at the scale modern models demand, and knows the difference between infrastructure that works in a demo and infrastructure that works at web scale.
YOUR IMPACT
Lead and grow a high-caliber team of data infrastructure engineers and data-focused researchers, splitting focus between shared infra and dedicated modeling teams.
Set the technical direction for how Cartesia processes, stores, and serves multimodal data at web scale.
Drive the creation of SOTA multimodal pre-training datasets — including the annotation models and curation strategies that determine what our models learn.
Establish a rigorous, empirical approach to data quality: training and evaluating models specifically to understand what makes data valuable, and feeding that back into dataset decisions.
Partner closely with our modeling and research teams to make sure data work translates directly into better models.
Hire, mentor, and develop engineers and researchers as the team scales from a handful of people to a full organization.
WHAT YOU BRING
Proven management experience, including directly leading a data team of at least 6 people.
Hands-on familiarity with data infrastructure at scale — processing, storage, and the systems that make large-scale data usable.
A track record of building and leading data efforts, ideally in the context of a modeling project.
NICE-TO-HAVES
Previous modeling experience
Experience building data for a generative modeling organization.
Familiarity with multimodal data (audio, speech, and beyond).
Note: Cartesia participates in E-Verify and will provide the federal government with Form I-9 information to confirm employment eligibility after hire.

Comfortable reproducing issues, debugging errors, and collaborating with engineers to identify solutions.
A builder mentality: can identify chokepoints in process and tooling and build to close gaps.
Excellent written and verbal communication, able to distill complex technical problems for both internal teams and customers.
Calm under pressure and able to prioritize effectively when multiple customer issues arise simultaneously.
High ownership and collaborative mindset, excited to contribute to a small, fast-moving team.
NICE TO HAVE
Scripting experience in Python, JavaScript/TypeScript, or similar to reproduce, mock, or validate issues.
Experience in fast-moving startup environments where the product ships frequently and customers are often in early/beta.
Interest in tinkering with new features, debugging edge cases, and exploring workflows hands-on.
Note: Cartesia participates in E-Verify and will provide the federal government with Form I-9 information to confirm employment eligibility after hire.

ABOUT THE ROLE
Cartesia is hiring a Software Engineer, Agents to build the backend platform behind Line, our voice agents product. The Agents stack — a Go API with Python workers — is what customers rely on to run real-time, production-grade voice agents. You'll own backend work end-to-end and directly shape the latency, reliability, and developer experience of every agent built on Cartesia.
YOUR IMPACT
Build and operate the distributed systems behind Cartesia's voice agents: load balancing servers, workers, and the realtime media pipelines that tie them together.
Take projects from spec to production: design, build, ship, monitor, iterate.
Make the architectural calls that compound over time — latency budgets, reliability targets, scaling primitives — and clearly articulate the tradeoffs.
Define the developer experience for engineers building on Cartesia: APIs, observability, and applied evaluations.
WHAT YOU BRING
3+ years building distributed backend systems in production, ideally at a high-growth startup. We care more about what you've shipped than strict YOE.
Strong product instincts for platform work - you think in customer-facing latency, reliability, and developer experience, and you have opinions on what to build and why.
Second-order thinking about backend architecture - you can explain why a design choice was made and what it trades off.
Fluent, day-to-day use of AI coding tools, and a habit of keeping pace with the frontier.
A strong communicator with both technical and non-technical audiences; comfortable writing clear specs and contributing actively in design reviews.
NICE-TO-HAVES
Experience with Go and/or Python in a backend platform context.
Realtime media systems in production (WebRTC, SIP, RTP, low-latency audio)
Deep experience with cloud and infra primitives (Kubernetes, Docker, NATS, gRPC, OpenTelemetry and modern observability stacks).
Distributed systems at scale dealing with non-trivial throughput, autoscaling, multi-region architectures.
Voice agents or agent framework experience (Pipecat, LiveKit, OpenAI Agents SDK, Claude SDK, Vercel AI SDK).
Note: Cartesia participates in E-Verify and will provide the federal government with Form I-9 information to confirm employment eligibility after hire.

ABOUT THE ROLE
We’re hiring an Enterprise Engineer to advance our mission of building real-time multimodal intelligence by delivering agentic voice AI solutions directly into production for our customers.
YOUR IMPACT
Architect and build enterprise-grade systems such as On Prem Deployments & Agent Infrastructure
Own the design and delivery of durable, first-class platform capabilities shaped by enterprise needs — the abstractions, core changes, and infrastructure that Cartesia's largest customers build on top of
Turn recurring patterns from customer deployments (gaps, incident themes, eval results) from one-off workarounds into scalable, long-term platform primitives
Define and raise the bar for reliability, security, and operational maturity across Cartesia's enterprise surface area
You'll have significant ownership over the core capabilities that determine whether Cartesia can scale across the most demanding enterprise environments globally
WHAT YOU BRING
Strong backend engineering fundamentals — you've designed and shipped infrastructure, platform services, or core abstractions that other teams build on top of
Proficiency in Go and/or Python
You think in terms of long-term maintainability and modularity
You’re good at collaborating cross-functionally and translating customer feedback into actionable product and platform improvements
NICE-TO-HAVES
Experience with enterprise-grade concerns: deployment in customer-managed infrastructure (VPCs, on-prem), compliance regimes, observability, multi-tenancy, and security hardening
Note: Cartesia participates in E-Verify and will provide the federal government with Form I-9 information to confirm employment eligibility after hire.

About the Role
Data is the lifeblood of our models, and we are looking for a Software Engineer, Data Infrastructure to own the strategy and execution for all data at Cartesia. In this highly impactful role, you will build and evolve the datasets that power our cutting-edge research. You will design scalable systems to acquire, process, and curate massive multimodal datasets while partnering closely with research and inference teams. Your work will directly shape the capabilities and quality of our foundational models.
Your Impact
Define Cartesia's multi-modal data strategy across pre-training and post-training, spanning human, synthetic, and web-scale sources, with particular depth in audio.
Design and operate scalable, high-throughput data pipelines for text, audio, and video โ covering ingestion, preprocessing, augmentation, dataset versioning, and data loading for training.
Partner closely with research and inference teams so data systems are co-designed with training and serving infrastructure (batching, GPU-aware loading, evaluation pipelines).
Establish and enforce rigorous standards for data quality, with a tight feedback loop between dataset characteristics and model behavior.
Identify and source novel datasets; manage relationships and budgets with external data vendors and partners.
What You Bring
Hands-on experience with ML data infrastructure: training data pipelines, dataset versioning, large-scale data loading, and the interplay between data systems and model training and inference.
Working knowledge of multimodal data, i.e. audio: formats, preprocessing, augmentation, and large-scale storage and streaming patterns.
Strong modern engineering execution: clean, well-tested code, fluency with current tools, and a willingness to pick the right tool for the problem rather than defaulting to familiar patterns.
Experience leading cross-functional technical efforts in a fast-moving, research-driven environment.
Familiarity with building and evaluating datasets for generative models and reasonable working knowledge of how theyโre trained and inference.
Note: Cartesia participates in E-Verify and will provide the federal government with Form I-9 information to confirm employment eligibility after hire.
