About Cherry
Founded in 2019, Cherry is a fast-growing FinTech offering the simplest, fastest, and most inclusive BNPL solution for medical practices—including dental, medical aesthetics, and veterinary etc. We help practices treat more patients by making care financially accessible. Cherry is led by Stanford entrepreneurs with a previous successful exit and backed by top investors, including Kleiner Perkins and DCM.
About the Role
We're seeking a Senior Manager of Data & Analytics Engineering to own how data moves through Cherry and how the entire company leverages it — end to end, from ingestion and warehouse architecture, through governance and access control, to the analytics engineering layer that powers self-serve analytics and decision-making across the business.
You'll build and lead a team spanning both Data Engineering and Analytics Engineering, including senior individual contributors who will help you execute as the team scales. You’ll start with a core team of 2-3 engineers, and one of your immediate mandates will be to rapidly scale this team to 6-8 engineers.
One of Cherry’s values is “Seek Truth Through Facts” and your primary goal is to enable data democratization that is efficient, secure and scalable. To do so, you’ll ensure that a broad range of internal stakeholders — from operational reps to executive leadership and technical data science teams — are served by the right tooling, data access, and governance model.
What You'll Do
1. Team Leadership & Development
- Build and lead a team of Analytics Engineers and Data Engineers, setting technical standards across both disciplines
- Drive rapid team scaling to expand the org to 6-8 engineers within a year, establishing clear career ladders as scope expands
- Cultivate a culture of engineering rigor, code review, automated testing, and continuous delivery
2. Technical Architecture & Data Platform Ownership
- Own the architecture and strategy for data ingestion, warehouse modeling, and the analytics engineering layer (dbt, semantic layer, marts)
- Design and enforce data governance and security frameworks: role-based access control (RBAC), PII/PHI handling, masking, and tokenization in a regulated environment
- Stay technically close enough to conduct code/architecture reviews, unblock technical bottlenecks, and step in personally on critical platform issues
3. Product Management & Stakeholder Enablement
- Ensure every internal stakeholder group gets the right tooling and access model for their specific needs, from operational reps and executive leadership to technical power users in Finance, Credit Risk, and Practice Risk
- Serve as the de facto product manager for data-related production systems and core infrastructure, translating requirements from internal partners into a unified, actionable roadmap
- Define frameworks governing how decentralized internal applications and rapidly prototyped tools are built on Cherry's data surfaces, keeping self-service scalable and reliable
What We're Looking For
1. Experience:
- 7+ years in data engineering and/or analytics engineering, including direct people management experience
- Demonstrated ability to attract, hire, and scale engineering talent quickly while maintaining a high technical bar
- Proven track record owning end-to-end data platform architecture from ingestion through to consumption layers
- Experience operating as a product owner/liaison for technical platform tools, balancing business feature requests with technical debt and reliability
- Background in a regulated industry (e.g., Fintech, Healthcare, Insurtech) navigating strict compliance and governance requirements is strongly preferred
2. Technical Skills:
- Modern Stack: Deep expertise in cloud data warehouses (e.g., Snowflake), orchestration tools (e.g., Airflow), and ingestion tooling (e.g., Fivetran)
- Analytics Engineering: Mastery of dbt and core analytics engineering practices — data modeling, semantic layer design, testing, and documentation best practices
- Governance & Security: Practical experience designing role-based access control (RBAC) frameworks, PII/PHI tokenization, masking, and automated access control systems
3. Leadership & Communication:
- Experience coaching across distinct technical role types, and building out senior/lead layers as a team scales
- Able to represent technical tradeoffs and governance requirements clearly to both engineering peers and non-technical executive stakeholders
- Strong prioritization instincts when governance work, platform reliability, and business-facing feature requests compete for the same roadmap slot
Benefits (for U.S.- based full-time employees)
- Competitive Base Salary + Bonus
- Generous equity grant
- Medical, vision, and dental benefits
- Fully remote company
- Flexible PTO

Staff Design Engineer - Design Systems

STAFF DESIGN ENGINEER, DESIGN SYSTEMS
Cherry | Individual Contributor
ABOUT THE ROLE
The tools designers use are changing faster than at any point in the last two decades. AI is collapsing the gap between intent and implementation. Designers are shipping code. The traditional boundaries between design and engineering are dissolving, and that changes what a design system is, what it's for, and who it serves.
Cherry is building for that world now. We're looking for a Staff Design Engineer who doesn't just own our design system, but reimagines it: someone who sees this moment as an opportunity to define what design infrastructure looks like when AI is a first-class tool in every workflow.
This role is the foundation of Cherry's quality at scale. When the system is right, good decisions aren't made by individuals; they're encoded. Teams don't deliberate over spacing, motion, or component behavior. They use the system, and the right answers are already there.
Cherry's design system spans multiple products: our provider web application, consumer web application, provider mobile application, consumer mobile application, and point-of-sale system. You'll own the component library, the React codebase, interaction patterns, tokens, and documentation. Cherry is deeply committed to AI tooling. Everyone on the team is using Claude, and we have a dedicated AI Enablement team building internal tools to push that further. We're currently working in Figma and actively working to move away from it toward design tooling built for the AI era. This role will help lead that transition. This is not a role where you maintain a library. It's a role where you invent the next version of it.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
Design System Ownership
- Own the full design system: component library, React codebase, interaction patterns, tokens, and documentation
- Write, ship, and maintain production React code with strong code hygiene, testing practices, and clear architecture
- Define the interaction and visual design language for Cherry's component library: the standard every surface is held to
Building Quality at Scale
- Encode quality standards into the system itself: components, tokens, and rules that make the right choice the easy choice
- Work with AI tooling (Claude, Cursor, Codex) to embed design rules into development workflows, so quality guidance is available at the moment decisions are made
- Partner with Cherry's AI Enablement team to build internal tools that extend the design system's reach
Cross-Team Partnership
- Partner closely with our front-end engineering team in Turkey on component architecture, implementation, and code review
- Serve the product design team as their primary design system partner, guiding usage and enabling confident contribution
- Work with the broader engineering org to ensure components are easy to adopt, well-documented, and production-ready
Strategy & Vision
- Own the strategy for how Cherry's design system evolves as AI becomes part of every designer's and engineer's workflow
- Define the roadmap for components, pattern evolution, and process, with an eye toward what design systems look like in 2-3 years
- Advocate for the long-term health of the system, balancing team requests with architectural integrity
WHAT YOU BRING
- 5-8+ years of experience spanning product design and front-end engineering, with demonstrated strength in both
- Deep proficiency in React, with strong opinions on component architecture, testing, and code quality
- Expert-level skills in design tools, including component design, variants, tokens, and design system management
- A sharp eye for visual and interaction design: spacing, motion, hierarchy, and the details that separate polished from almost-polished
- Fluency with AI-assisted development tools like Claude Code, Cursor, or Codex
- Experience building and maintaining a design system used by multiple teams in production
- The ability to communicate across disciplines, fluent with designers, engineers, and product leaders alike
YOU'RE PROBABLY A GREAT FIT IF...
- You're energized by AI tooling changing what design systems work actually means, and you want to be the person who figures out what it becomes
- People can't quite decide if you're a designer or an engineer, and you've stopped trying to explain
- You believe design systems are infrastructure: not a style guide, not a Storybook, but the thing that determines how fast and how well a company can build
- You get frustrated when good design decisions aren't encoded somewhere they can scale, and you do something about it
