ABOUT THE ROLE At LayerZero, our Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) team is at the intersection of software and systems engineering, dedicated to crafting and maintaining large-scale, resilient systems. Our goal is to ensure that all LayerZero services—ranging from critical internal systems to those external users interact with—are reliable, meet the uptime expectations of our users, and continuously evolve at a swift pace. Our SRE professionals will monitor our system's capacity and performance to uphold these standards. Our software development efforts aim to enhance system efficiency, develop robust infrastructure, and reduce manual workload through automation. As a member of the SRE team, you'll tackle the unique challenges of scaling at LayerZero. You'll leverage your skills in coding, algorithmic problem-solving, complexity analysis, and designing systems at scale. The success of our SRE team is deeply rooted in a culture that values intellectual curiosity, effective problem-solving, and an openness to different ideas. We are committed to bringing together individuals from diverse backgrounds, experiences, and viewpoints. WHAT YOU'LL DO Build, monitor, and maintain blockchain node infrastructure for a variety of DLTs, ensuring reliability and performance. Collaborate with product and platform engineers to proactively address reliability, scalability, and observability. Develop scalable infrastructure using code, with a focus on Kubernetes Helm charts. Automate incident detection, triage, and resolution processes. Participate in the on-call rotation for systems owned by the team. ABOUT YOU Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, similar technical field of study, or equivalent practical experience. 4+ years of experience as a Site Reliability Engineer, DevOps Engineer, or similar role. Deep familiarity with blockchain node infrastructure (e.g., running validator/full/archive nodes, RPC optimization, etc.). Strong proficiency in Typescript or Golang development—with ability to build tools, services, or automation. Advanced knowledge of Unix/Linux internals and systems administration. Strong background in distributed system design and high availability architecture. 3+ years of experience with Kubernetes, including Helm chart authoring. Excellent communication skills and a collaborative, problem-solving mindset. The base salary for this position ranges from $120,000/year up to $200,000/year. Salary is based on a number of factors and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. LayerZero is a total compensation company. ABOUT THE ROLE We’re seeking a Systems Engineer to join LayerZero. In this role, you’ll build the foundational systems that power our execution and infrastructure layers, including Zero. This is a low-level, performance-critical role focused on runtime architecture, concurrency, and scalable execution. You will make architectural decisions that directly impact how our systems execute, scale, and remain stable under load. WHAT YOU'LL DO We’re looking for an engineer experienced in building robust, high-performance systems who is excited about solving hard infrastructure problems. You’ll work on distributed execution systems with strict correctness and performance requirements. Architect high-performance systems and leverage AI to implement them in Rust. Build and optimize core runtime, networking, or state management components. Profile and improve performance both at low-level (CPU, memory) and cluster-scale (network, scheduling). Debug race conditions, deadlocks, and production performance issues. Contribute to architectural decisions around scheduling, synchronization, and system scalability. Own systems end-to-end from design through production. ABOUT YOU Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or equivalent practical experience. 2+ years of experience building systems-level or performance-critical software. Strong proficiency in systems programming and leveraging AI to build software. Deep understanding of concurrency, CPU architecture, cache hierarchy, and operating systems . Experience designing or contributing to low-level storage, compute, or network infrastructure. Strong intuition for striking a pragmatic balance between complexity for performance and simplicity for robustness Experience using low-level profiling and debugging tools in production environments. ABOUT THE ROLE We're seeking a talented Backend Engineer to join our team at LayerZero, where you'll play a pivotal role in revolutionizing blockchain interoperability and shaping the future of decentralized applications. As a Backend Engineer, you'll spearhead the development of robust and scalable backend systems that power our web3 technologies. WHAT YOU'LL DO We're looking for an engineer experienced in building complex backend systems who is passionate about blockchain technology and is excited to bring new innovations. You don't have to have a background in blockchain, but you need to be keen to learn about it. You have a strong understanding of backend system design and have designed complex distributed systems in the past. You are comfortable writing clean, scalable, and well-tested code. You enjoy working in a fast-paced start-up environment, where you'll need to take initiative and solve problems independently. Pushing code that supports tens of billions of dollars of daily transactional volume doesn't scare you. You are curious and eager to learn new technologies and design patterns. You're not afraid to navigate up and down a deep technical stack. You don't define yourself by the tools you know, only by the problems you solve. You are able to articulate complex technical concepts clearly and succinctly. You have excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail. ABOUT YOU Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent practical experience. 2+ years of experience in backend development, building and maintaining scalable, production-grade systems. You have conviction in your architecture/designs/ideas but are open minded to share and build solutions with others. Experience with AWS services, particularly related to deploying, managing, and scaling applications. Proficiency in backend development languages, such as Typescript. Experience working with workflow engines. Previous experience with blockchain technologies, smart contracts, and decentralized finance is a strong plus.
