ABOUT ONEBRIEF
Onebrief builds collaboration and AI-powered workflow software for military planning and operational coordination.
Military planning is complex by nature, requiring teams to coordinate information, people, and decisions across systems and locations. Founded in 2019, Onebrief is backed by leading investors including General Catalyst, Battery Ventures, Insight Partners, Sapphire Ventures, and Human Capital. Valued at more than $2 billion, we continue to invest in product innovation, AI capabilities, and team growth.
ABOUT THE ROLE
Onebrief's infrastructure team owns the platform that delivers our software to military staffs. Our charter spans Kubernetes clusters in commercial and government cloud, application streaming for thin-client users on classified networks, a unified artifact pipeline that signs and ships the same builds to every environment we operate, and air-gapped appliances at forward sites.
We're hiring an Infrastructure Engineer who builds security into the systems they operate rather than treating it as a separate workstream. You'll architect, build, and run the platform end to end. This includes RFCs, PRDs, and reviewing and writing production code alongside Product and Engineering teammates. The work cuts across cloud-native deployments, edge appliances, data platforms, and the application streaming layer that puts Onebrief on classified environments. You'll partner with Governance, Risk, and Compliance (GRC) and mission owners on STIGs, CVE remediation, audit prep, and the controls work that lets us operate in environments such as IL5, IL6, and JWICS.
Success means a platform that stays up under real operational load, ships trusted artifacts to every profile we run, and passes audits without fire drills.
ABOUT YOU
People by-name request you because you bias towards action. You are a problem-solver by nature who genuinely cares about the mission and the outcome. You operate without hand-holding. You read a problem, weigh tradeoffs, and move. Sometimes the tradeoffs have harsh consequences that you pay for later, but you are resilient and adapt. When the work crosses into expertise you don't have, you dig into the problem, pull in the right teammates, apply their feedback, and continue.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
- Design, develop, test, iterate, and deploy secure production systems across cloud-native and edge appliance deployments
- Embed with cross-functional teams and advise on infrastructure, security, and deployment best practices that hold up in production
- Own end-to-end infrastructure outcomes for one or more critical programs or priority infrastructure initiatives
- Harden the artifact pipeline so the same signed builds run in cloud, single-tenant high-side, and air-gapped appliance deployments
WHAT WE LOOK FOR
You'll do well in this role if you bring:
- 5+ years operating production infrastructure in DevOps/DevSecOps, Platform, SRE, Cloud, or Infrastructure roles
- Full-stack engineering experience when necessary, e.g., production experience designing, building, and operating services in a modern backend language (e.g., Go, Python, Rust, TypeScript)
- Deep production Kubernetes experience: operators, networking, storage, multi-cluster operations, and a feel for what breaks at scale
- Expertise with major cloud providers (e.g., Amazon AWS, Microsoft Azure), with strong instincts for designing across providers and profiles
- Strong application and infrastructure security fundamentals: identity, network segmentation, secrets management, common vulnerability classes, and sound security judgment under ambiguity
- Demonstrated ability to build working solutions from scratch, connect disparate applications together, and jump into existing code bases to add value
- Experience packaging and shipping workloads into disconnected or air-gapped environments
- Ability to obtain a SECRET clearance
Nice to have qualifications:
- Active US SECRET or TOP SECRET security clearance
- Government cloud expertise (AWS GovCloud, Azure Government)
- FedRAMP, IL4/IL5, IL6, or JWICS environment exposure
- Audit experience (FedRAMP, SOC 2, or equivalent)
- Big data and distributed data experience
- Prior experience supporting defense, intelligence, or other regulated industries

ABOUT ONEBRIEF

Military planning is complex by nature, requiring teams to coordinate information, people, and decisions across systems and locations. ENGINEERING AT ONEBRIEF
Engineering at Onebrief means building systems that must perform reliably in complex, high-stakes environments where operational outcomes matter more than activity, output, or elegant theory alone.
This is work for engineers who care about reliability, adaptability, observability, and building systems that succeed under real-world conditions. As AI transforms how software is built, engineering here is increasingly focused on verification, judgment, and helping teams operate more effectively at scale.
You’ll likely feel energized here if you care about:
- meaningful technical challenges
- systems that operate under real-world constraints
- outcomes over activity
- and grounded teams focused on solving important problems well.
WHY THIS ROLE EXISTS
Onebrief builds software for military planning, where the cost of a slow or wrong decision is measured in something more than a missed sprint. That raises the bar on the engineering itself. The systems have to hold up under real operational load, in environments where the customer can't tolerate failures or downtime.
A Senior Software Engineer owns the hard parts of that. Not just shipping features, but taking the ambiguous, high-stakes pieces of a system and driving them to something that holds: designing for the failure cases, making the tradeoffs that keep the code maintainable as it grows, and lifting the quality bar for the squad along the way. This is the level where an engineer stops needing the problem handed to them fully framed and starts framing it themselves.
Onebrief is building in the AI-native era, and Senior engineers here are expected to use these tools well: knowing what to trust to them, where human judgment stays non-negotiable, and how to keep quality and ownership intact as the leverage goes up.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
- Own end-to-end delivery of features and systems that directly impact customers, contributing across the full stack from frontend experiences to backend services and infrastructure.
- Move between squads as business priorities evolve, applying your expertise to high-impact problems and quickly becoming effective in new domains.
- Improve the scalability, reliability, and security of Onebrief's core platform by evolving shared systems, architecture, and engineering foundations.
- Partner with engineers across the organization to shape technical decisions that balance long-term platform health with rapid customer delivery.
- Help define how AI-assisted development is used at Onebrief, leveraging modern tooling to accelerate development while maintaining high standards for quality and maintainability.
- Drive meaningful outcomes by solving the problems that matter most, making thoughtful tradeoffs that enable the team to move quickly without sacrificing engineering excellence..
WHAT WE LOOK FOR
- 6+ years of software engineering experience or equivalent practical experience.
- Strong experience designing distributed systems, APIs (REST, GraphQL, or gRPC), and scalable data models.
- Hands-on experience building and operating cloud-native applications using technologies such as Docker, Kubernetes, and AWS, GCP, or Azure.
- Proven ability to work across the stack, from frontend applications to backend services and infrastructure.
- Experience delivering complex technical projects in fast-paced, evolving environments.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to explain technical decisions and collaborate effectively across engineering teams.
NICE TO HAVE
- Experience with observability, monitoring, and incident response.
- Background in mission-critical or regulated environments (FedRAMP, SOC 2, HIPAA, or DoD).
- Experience with event-driven architectures and distributed messaging systems.
- Familiarity with authentication and identity systems (OAuth 2.0, OIDC, SAML, or RBAC/ABAC).
TOOLS, SYSTEMS & TECHNOLOGIES
- Frontend: React, TypeScript, Vite, shared component libraries, client-side observability
- Backend: Node.js, PostgreSQL, Redis, secure RESTful APIs, distributed services
- Authentication & Authorization: Keycloak, OpenID Connect (OIDC), SAML 2.0, OAuth 2.0, ABAC, JWT, federated identity provider integrations
- Infrastructure: Kubernetes, AWS, Terraform, CI/CD pipelines, container security and secrets management
- Integrations: CSV/Excel/KML importers, PDF exports, DoD and enterprise data systems, secure API gateways, auditing pipelines

The systems have to hold up under real operational load, in environments where the customer can't tolerate failures or downtime.
A Staff Software Engineer sets the technical direction that keeps that bar met as the product and the org grow. Not by writing the most code, but by making the decisions that everyone else's code depends on: how a system is structured, where the hard boundaries sit, which tradeoffs are worth the complexity. A Staff Software Engineer is delivering at a high level, building the foundation in the shared architecture no one team owns outright.
Onebrief is building in the AI-native era, and Staff engineers here lead on how the org uses these tools well: what to trust to them, where human judgment stays non-negotiable, and how to keep quality and ownership intact as the leverage goes up.
