About The Role:
Your north star: You’ll lead the IT team at a rapidly scaling, high-growth startup — and set the bar for what world-class IT looks like at Pomelo.
This role reports to VP of Engineering and can be based anywhere in the continental US.
What You'll Do:
Manage, coach and grow our team of IT Support Engineers — hiring, development, and performance
Stay hands-on: set the technical bar, teach the team, and take the hardest escalations yourself
Own our core IT systems and roadmap: identity and access, device management, Google Workspace, Slack and the rest of our SaaS stack
Own IT vendor relationships, procurement and spend — negotiate renewals, cut redundant tooling, keep the stack lean
Root out manual, repetitive IT work — and automate it away
Run smooth onboarding and offboarding at scale for a distributed team
Partner with our Security team on the controls behind our HIPAA compliance and SOC 2 HITRUST certifications

Bonus points if you have any of the following:
Startup experience — especially building or scaling an IT function at a fast-growing company
Experience at a healthcare company, where HIPAA and patient data are part of daily life
An infosec/security background
Hands-on SOC 2 or HITRUST experience: implementing controls, gathering audit evidence, or running parts of the certification process

About us
Pomelo Care is the leading virtual medical practice for women and children, providing care across pregnancy, postpartum, pediatrics, menopause, and perimenopause. We combine proactive, 24/7 clinical care with technology that helps us reach patients earlier, identify risks sooner, and deliver personalized care throughout their journey. Our team includes clinicians, technologists, operators, and problem-solvers working together to make high-quality care more accessible for families nationwide.
About The Role:
Your north star: Our engineering team is the engine behind our innovative virtual care platform, building AI-powered solutions that fundamentally transform care delivery and create exceptional experiences for both patients and clinicians. If you're passionate about using technology to effect real, tangible good in the world, we'd love to meet you. Security at Pomelo is an engineering problem. This role owns the execution side — the controls, automation, and code that actually reduce risk — with a lot of latitude to decide what matters and ship it. A separate compliance team owns policy and audit; you build the things that make us safer.
This role reports to VP of Engineering and can be based anywhere in the continental US.
What you'll do
Own security problems end to end: navigate ambiguity to decide what matters, build it, ship it independently.
Find the real risks and build the most direct controls that take them off the table.
Build secure-by-default libraries, guardrails, and tooling so dozens of engineers can move fast without footguns.
Define and implement strict least-privilege guardrails across all services to safeguard sensitive patient information and health metrics.
Harden developer machines to minimize the risk of supply chain attacks and Whatever Comes Next from AI.
Partner with compliance to turn control objectives into real controls, and help focus effort on the requirements that genuinely reduce risk and unlock new commercial opportunities (HITRUST, health plan requirements, etc.).
Who you are
You have a strong track record of making organizations measurably safer. That track record is risks you've closed, not tickets you've opened.
You can tell signal from noise, and you spend your time on the risks that actually move the needle.
You're a builder first: 5+ years of software engineering with production-grade code under your belt (Kotlin, Java, Python, Go, C# or similar).
You have real security depth — threat modeling, identity and auth flows, the OWASP Top 10, cloud and supply-chain security.
When something's wrong, your instinct is to understand the actual threat and build the most direct fix — not to go shopping for a product that claims to handle it.
You're looking for room to own more over time — and you're the type to take it, not wait for it.
We'll be super excited if you:
Have built in healthcare and understand HIPAA and HITRUST — and how to satisfy them without drowning engineering in process.
Have experience with Google Cloud Platform and a modern product stack.
Have built internal developer platforms or secure-by-default tooling that other engineers actually adopted.
Have worked in a fast-paced, product-oriented startup.

Expires 07/31/2029
Why are you being asked to complete this form?
We are a federal contractor or subcontractor. The law requires us to provide equal employment opportunity to qualified people with disabilities. We have a goal of having at least 7% of our workers as people with disabilities. The law says we must measure our progress towards this goal. To do this, we must ask applicants and employees if they have a disability or have ever had one. People can become disabled, so we need to ask this question at least every five years.
Completing this form is voluntary, and we hope that you will choose to do so. Your answer is confidential. No one who makes hiring decisions will see it. Your decision to complete the form and your answer will not harm you in any way. If you want to learn more about the law or this form, visit the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) website at www.dol.gov/ofccp.

About us
Pomelo Care is the leading virtual medical practice for women and children, providing care across pregnancy, postpartum, pediatrics, menopause, and perimenopause. We combine proactive, 24/7 clinical care with technology that helps us reach patients earlier, identify risks sooner, and deliver personalized care throughout their journey. Our team includes clinicians, technologists, operators, and problem-solvers working together to make high-quality care more accessible for families nationwide.
About The Role
Your north star: You'll serve as the technical lead for how patients interact with Pomelo from the moment they enroll through their entire care journey.
We can only meaningfully improve health outcomes if patients are highly engaged in their care and trust our team. The earlier we can start providing care, the more likely we can affect outcomes. That all starts with the patient experience: building features that check in with patients throughout their journey, provide them the best next step for their care, triage their urgent needs, make it simple to get high quality care, and help them feel supported. This role sits at the center of that mission.
This role reports to a Senior Staff Engineering Manager and is open to any candidates located in the continental US.
What you'll do:
Lead the technical direction for our mobile development strategy and patient-facing apps, shaping how tens of thousands of patients experience Pomelo
Rapidly prototype and ship features in our patient mobile and web apps alongside design and product, using AI tools to move fast and test ideas that meaningfully improve engagement and retention
Help steer product direction for how we support and retain patients in their critical first month with Pomelo, when the window to affect outcomes is widest
Talk directly to patients and partner with product, design, and clinical teams to turn real needs into real features
Mentor and grow junior engineers, raising the bar for the whole team
Set the technical standards, architecture patterns, and development practices that our patient-facing products are built on
Problems You'll Dig Into
How do we get patients proactively engaged in their own care?
How do we personalize the patient experience to specific needs and interests while meaningfully moving outcomes?
How do we build habits so that patients check in with us first when problems come up during their pregnancy?
How do we keep patients engaged without always requiring direct clinical intervention?
Tech Stack
Expo + React Native, React, TypeScript, Kotlin, SQL
Who you are:
You have deep experience building and shipping consumer or patient-facing products, whether mobile, web, or both
You've served as a technical lead on a team, setting architecture direction and mentoring other engineers
You have strong opinions, loosely held, about how to build great user experiences
You're comfortable working across the full stack and moving quickly in a startup environment
You're keeping up with trends in LLM coding agents to multiply your engineering impact
You enjoy collaborating closely with product and design, not just executing on specs
We'll be especially excited if you:
Have experience with React Native or cross-platform mobile frameworks
Have experience building products in healthcare, wellness, or other high-trust consumer domains
Have worked on engagement, retention, or onboarding flows and understand what makes users stick around
Have prior experience with AI/ML or building agent-based systems
