Overview
Application
Profound is the marketing platform for the age of AI search. The way brands reach people is being rewritten — AI models like ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Google AI Mode are now the answer layer between companies and their customers. We built the platform marketers use to understand, measure, and win in that world: the analytics, intelligence, and agent automation that turn AI search from a threat into a competitive advantage.
We went from 0 to a $1B valuation in 18 months. Revenue grew 100x last year. Our customers include 15% of the Fortune 500 like Walmart, Wayfair and U.S. Bank, and innovators like Ramp, MongoDB, and Figma. We are backed by Sequoia, Kleiner Perkins, LSVP, and Khosla Ventures — and we are moving fast enough that the people joining now are building the playbook everyone who comes after them will run.
About the Role
As our Head of Security you will build and lead the company's security program as it scales into a trusted enterprise platform. This is a foundational, high-impact role: you'll own security strategy end-to-end while staying hands-on, working alongside an existing Security Engineer to mature Profound's program from "does the right things" to "provably does the right things at enterprise scale."
You'll also own IT for the company, making this a role that spans technical security leadership and the practical, day-to-day systems that keep the company running securely.
This is a player-coach role. You should be comfortable setting strategy and talking to enterprise customers' security teams one day, and rolling up your sleeves on a threat model, an incident, or an endpoint policy the next.
What You'll Do
Security Strategy & Leadership
Own and evolve Profound's overall security strategy, roadmap, and risk posture as the company scales
Own the build-out and growth of the entire security function and team.
Serve as the executive-level owner of security in customer conversations, RFPs, and security reviews with enterprise and Fortune 100 prospects and customers
Partner closely with Engineering, Product, and Leadership to embed security into the SDLC and product roadmap
Governance, Risk & Compliance
Own and mature Profound's compliance posture (SOC 2 Type II and beyond — e.g. ISO 27001, GDPR, and other frameworks as enterprise customers require)
Drive audits, policy development, vendor risk management, and control operations
Manage relationships with auditors, pen testers, and security vendors
Technical Security
Provide technical direction and oversight for application security, cloud security (AWS/GCP), and infrastructure hardening
Own incident response: build the program, run tabletop exercises, and lead the response when needed
Guide and review the Security Engineer's work on detection, vulnerability management, and secure architecture
Evaluate and implement security tooling (SIEM, EDR, vulnerability scanning, etc.)
IT
Own IT operations for the company: identity and access management (SSO/MDM), endpoint security, employee onboarding/offboarding, SaaS security posture, and internal tooling
Set and enforce IT policies that scale with headcount growth without creating unnecessary friction
What We're Looking For
8+ years in security, with progressively increasing scope, including experience owning a security program (not just executing within one)
Prior experience as a first or early security hire at a high-growth startup, ideally SaaS/B2B, strongly preferred
Hands-on technical depth — this is not a purely strategic/managerial role. Comfortable engaging directly on application security, cloud security, and incident response
Direct experience owning SOC 2 (Type II) and driving compliance programs; experience with additional frameworks (ISO 27001, GDPR, etc.) a plus
Experience leading and developing a small team
Comfortable being the face of security to enterprise customers, including technical security reviews and questionnaires
Experience owning or partnering closely with IT function preferred
Excellent communicator who can translate technical risk into business terms for executives and customers alike
Why This Role
Build a security program from the ground up at a company at the center of the shift to AI-driven search
High visibility — this role sits close to leadership and directly influences enterprise sales and customer trust
A strong Security Engineer already on the team, with a clear mandate to grow the function further
Fast-growing, well-funded company (Series C, $1B valuation) with strong momentum
Location
This is an on-site role based in our Union Square, NYC office, designed for builders who thrive on speed, iteration, and meaningful impact.
For this role, the expected base salary range is $300,000 to $375,000. Profound’s total compensation package is designed to be competitive and includes base salary, equity, and a full range of benefits and perks. Final compensation will depend on factors such as your skills, experience, qualifications, and location, and will be determined during the interview process. Our recruiting team will share more details about the full compensation package and benefits as you move through hiring.

As Profound’s first Talent Engineer, you will build the tooling and automation infrastructure that powers how we hire. Part recruiting systems architect and part pipeline engineer, you will manufacture the tools that let every recruiter source better, move faster, and close more. Your work will directly shape how our Recruiting function scales.
What you’ll do
Build AI-powered sourcing pipelines that identify and surface qualified candidates across LinkedIn, GitHub, job boards, and other relevant sources, calibrated to the profiles that matter most for each role
Automate resume screening and skills matching against role-specific scorecards so recruiters spend their time on the candidates worth talking to
Eliminate scheduling friction across the interview process through automated coordination and candidate status communications, so hiring moves without manual intervention
Build pipeline analytics and reporting that give the recruiting team real-time visibility into hiring velocity, source quality, cost per hire, and time to fill
Build an outbound recruiting motion that allows us to reach candidates directly and systematically, reducing reliance on external agencies
Generate candidate briefs automatically before each interview so every recruiter walks into a screen with full context on the person they are about to meet
Manufacture tools rather than operate them, building systems the recruiting team can run independently as they scale
Who you are
High-agency builder who approaches recruiting as a systems and data problem and can ship tooling that a recruiting team will actually adopt
Technically fluent in Python or JavaScript, comfortable building integrations across ATS platforms, job boards, calendar systems, and communication tools
AI-native thinker who defaults to automation and experiments with new approaches to sourcing, screening, and candidate communication
Experience building recruiting or HR technology, ideally at a company that builds tools in that space
Familiar with applicant tracking systems, sourcing platforms, and the operational workflows that sit around them
Systems thinker who understands what a recruiter’s day actually looks like and builds accordingly
Comfortable operating in ambiguity and building a function from scratch

As a GTM Engineer on the Post-Sales team, you will build the infrastructure that powers how we retain and grow our customer base. Part systems architect and part customer intelligence platform, you will turn data from across the customer lifecycle into automated workflows that give engagement managers and account managers real leverage. Your work will directly shape how our Customer Success function scales.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
- Build automated customer health scoring across the full book of business, synthesizing product usage, support signals, and engagement data into a single, reliable picture of each account
- Design expansion signal detection for account managers that automatically surfaces accounts ready to grow, flagging patterns in usage, seat activity, and engagement that typically precede an upsell conversation
- Automate recurring touchpoints across the customer lifecycle, including onboarding checklists, usage review summaries, and adoption nudges, so engagement managers can focus on the work that requires a human
- Build renewal risk scoring that surfaces at-risk accounts 60 or more days before their renewal date, giving the team the time and context to intervene effectively
- Generate business review materials automatically by pulling usage metrics, ROI data, and AI use case recommendations from multiple internal sources into a format teams can present immediately
- Analyze call recordings and transcripts to identify AI use cases that map to each customer’s business, then automate the process of building and deploying those use cases at scale
- Build routing logic for assigning new customers to the right team member at handoff, accounting for current workload, open renewals, domain expertise, and timezone alignment
- Manufacture tools rather than operate them, building systems the post-sales team can run independently
WHO YOU ARE
- High-agency builder who can identify a problem in the customer lifecycle, scope a solution, and ship it without being closely managed
- Technically fluent in Python or JavaScript, comfortable building data pipelines, integrating APIs, and working across tools like Gong, Salesforce, and n8n
- AI-native thinker who defaults to automation and regularly experiments with agents, LLM APIs, and workflow frameworks
- Pragmatic about build versus buy, knowing when to leverage existing infrastructure rather than rebuild it
- Experience with post-sales, customer success, or account management operations
- Comfortable reasoning about data at a statistical level; building signal detection and predictive models, not just moving records between systems
- Familiar with tools like Gainsight, Gong, Salesforce, Dust, or similar customer-facing platforms
- Systems thinker who sees how data moves through the customer lifecycle and builds with that full picture in mind
- Comfortable operating in ambiguity and structuring your own roadmap

As enterprises integrate AI into critical workflows, they need to trust that the platforms they rely on are secure, compliant, and resilient. That's where you come in.
We're hiring a Security Engineer to own Profound's security posture across our platform, infrastructure, and corporate environment. You'll be the first dedicated security hire, which means you'll shape how we approach access control, vulnerability management, compliance, and incident response from the ground up. You'll partner closely with our Engineering and Infrastructure teams to build practical, scalable security systems that protect customer data and enable rapid growth.
This role is ideal for someone who sees security as a business accelerator, not a blocker, and who thrives on building rather than auditing.
What you'll do
In your first 90 days, you'll focus on our most pressing priorities: partnering with our Infrastructure team to harden our AWS environment, driving SOC 2 Type II continuous compliance (defining controls and closing gaps), and integrating security scanning into our CI/CD pipelines.
Over time, you'll take on broader responsibility across our security posture:
Enforce least-privilege access controls and conduct regular access reviews across environments
Build and run a vulnerability management program spanning infrastructure, applications, and dependencies
Triage and respond to security findings from automated tooling, bug bounty programs, and third-party assessments
Partner with Infrastructure to implement detection and monitoring capabilities using log aggregation and SIEM tooling
Conduct risk assessments, maintain a risk register, and drive prioritization decisions
Build security policies and procedures that reflect how we actually operate
Lead post-incident reviews and drive systemic improvements
Must have
5+ years in security engineering, with experience in high-growth SaaS or infrastructure-heavy environments
Hands-on experience building or maintaining a SOC 2 compliance program
Strong knowledge of AWS security services and cloud security architecture (IAM, VPC, CloudTrail, GuardDuty, Security Hub)
Deep understanding of identity and authentication protocols (OAuth, SAML, OIDC)
Practical scripting skills in Python or Bash for automating security workflows
Strong plus
Experience integrating vulnerability management and security scanning (SAST, DAST, SCA, container scanning) into CI/CD workflows
Experience with infrastructure-as-code security (Terraform, CloudFormation)
Background in penetration testing, application security assessments, or CTF competitions
Familiarity with data infrastructure security for systems like ClickHouse or PostgreSQL
Experience with data processing compliance in analytics-heavy environments
Relevant certifications (CISSP, CCSP, AWS Security Specialty, or similar)
Who you are
Clear communicator who can translate security risks into business terms for engineering, leadership, and customer-facing teams
Systems thinker who reasons about root causes, blast radius, and scalable control design
Self-directed with strong judgment and comfort operating with significant autonomy
Motivated by building the security foundation for a category-defining AI company
Compensation
For this role, the expected base salary range is $200,000 to $250,000 (NYC). Profound's total compensation package includes base salary, equity, and a full range of benefits and perks. Final compensation depends on skills, experience, qualifications, and location, and will be determined during the interview process. Our recruiting team will share more details about the full package as you move through hiring.
