This is a US-based remote role and you must be a US Citizen. You will be required to interview in person.
About SailPoint
SailPoint is the leader in identity security for the cloud enterprise. Our identity security solutions secure and enable thousands of companies worldwide, giving our customers unmatched visibility into the entirety of their digital workforce, ensuring workers have the right access to do their job – no more, no less. Built on a foundation of AI and ML, our Identity Security Cloud Platform delivers the right level of access to the right identities and resources at the right time—matching the scale, velocity, and changing needs of today’s cloud-oriented, modern enterprise.
About the role
Want to be on a team that is full of results-driven individuals who are constantly seeking to innovate? Want to make an impact? At SailPoint, our Engineering team does just that. Our engineering is where high-quality professional engineering meets individual impact. Our team creates products that are built on a mature, cloud-native event-driven microservices architecture hosted in AWS, which is now scaling to meet secure federal requirements in our FedRAMP environment.
As a Senior Software Engineer, your day-to-day will involve designing low-to-medium complexity features, writing high-performance Golang services, and deploying secure cloud resources. You will spend your day collaborating on clean API designs, optimizing data structures across Snowflake, DynamoDB, and Cassandra, and leveraging Temporal for stateful workflow orchestration. Because this is a FedRAMP-regulated environment, you will play a critical role in ensuring our microservices adhere to strict security, compliance, and observability standards, while utilizing SRE principles to keep our systems resilient and highly available.
About the team
You will join a dynamic, collaborative pod of software engineers focused on building the next generation of our Identity Security Cloud Platform. In this role, you will act as a senior Individual Contributor (IC) and module lead, providing technical guidance and mentoring a small pod of 2-3 engineers. The team values innovation, continuous delivery, and operational excellence. We work closely together to refine our Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) processes, conduct rigorous code reviews, and maintain high standards of telemetry and monitoring to meet our strict Service Level Objectives (SLOs).
Roadmap for success
This section replaces the traditional 'responsibilities' section.
30 days
Set up the local development environment and resolve any necessary system and repository access issues.
Conduct initial 1:1 meetings with engineering managers, teammates, and key cross-functional stakeholders.
Map out the core microservices architecture and gain a deep understanding of our AWS CI/CD pipelines and FedRAMP compliance baselines.
Ship a small, low-risk bug fix or minor feature to the production environment within the first two weeks of onboarding.
60 days
Deliver at least one medium-complexity feature or component in Golang, adhering to clean API design principles.
Actively participate in team code reviews, providing constructive and detailed technical feedback to peers.
Deepen your understanding of the product roadmap, customer pain points, and FedRAMP security controls.
Identify at least one area of technical debt, process inefficiency, or SRE monitoring gap to improve.
6 months
Take the lead on a large technical epic or complex system feature from initial architectural design through deployment to production.
Propose and document a major architectural improvement or tooling upgrade by authoring a Request for Comments (RFC) or technical design document.
Mentor junior engineers within your pod, providing technical guidance and helping them grow their engineering skills.
Join the team's on-call rotation and confidently triage, troubleshoot, and resolve production incidents using SRE telemetry and observability tools.
1 year
Own the technical lifecycle of multiple core microservices, ensuring their long-term scalability, performance, and security compliance.
Guide the engineering pod to successfully execute on key product deliverables, ensuring timelines are met and code quality remains high.
Drive significant improvements to our continuous delivery pipeline, optimizing deploy times and reliability for our FedRAMP and commercial environments.
Partner with engineering leadership to continuously refine and elevate our SDLC processes and architectural standards.
Requirements
Bachelors degree in related field, or equivalent professional experience
US Citizenship (Required for FedRAMP compliance)
7+ years of professional software development experience
Strong proficiency and hands-on experience in Golang for backend system development
Architecture: Extensive experience with Microservices development, distributed systems, clean API design, and event-driven patterns

About SailPoint
SailPoint is the leader in identity security for the cloud enterprise. Our identity security solutions secure and enable thousands of companies worldwide, giving our customers unmatched visibility into the entirety of their digital workforce and ensuring every identity has the right access to do their job, no more, no less.
Built on a foundation of AI and ML, our Atlas Platform delivers the right level of access to the right identities and resources at the right time, matching the scale, velocity, and changing needs of today's cloud-oriented, modern enterprise across human, machine, and AI identities.
About the Role
As a Senior Engineering Manager on the Enterprise Platform, you will lead one or more senior engineering teams responsible for core platform capabilities that the rest of SailPoint builds on. These teams own backend services, APIs, data stores, and the distributed systems that power the Atlas Platform at scale.
As a highly technical leader, you will own the operating rhythm and delivery health of your team(s), help solve complex challenges around scalability and reliability, reduce technical debt, and shape where the team invests. You will be expected to reach productivity quickly and to operate close enough to the work to know its real state at any time.
Stakeholder management is a significant aspect of this role. You will work closely with Product Management, Design, Architecture, Quality, DevOps, and customer-facing teams. You should proactively seek alignment with other engineering teams and stakeholders by deeply understanding your team's technology, building strong relationships, and insisting on high-quality solutions.
You will report to a Senior Director of Engineering.
Key Responsibilities
· Own the day-to-day operating cadence of your team(s), including planning, prioritization, standups, and retrospectives, and use that cadence to stay close to the work, surface risks early, and keep delivery predictable.
· Partner with Product Management to set a clear strategic direction and roadmap, and translate it into sequenced, well-scoped execution.
· Engage substantively in technical decisions, fluent enough at the architectural level to discuss tradeoffs with senior engineers, challenge design decisions, and guide the team toward sound, scalable solutions.
· Coach, grow, and develop engineers along their career paths, and shape the team through hiring and performance management.
· Drive scalability, reliability, and technical-debt reduction, and determine where engineering investment should be made.
· Manage risk, dependencies, and cross-team commitments, resolving issues proactively rather than escalating them.
· Allocate resources across competing priorities and make clear, defensible tradeoff decisions under load.
Requirements
· 8+ years in a Software Engineering Management role on backend services exposing APIs.
· 5+ years of hands-on experience as a Software Engineer.
· Deep knowledge of complex, scaling SaaS products, agile processes and workflows, and experience implementing them.
· Technical fluency at the architectural level, enabling easy discussions with engineers and the ability to challenge technical decisions.
· Experience with microservice architecture and distributed systems that utilize load balancing, horizontal scalability, and high availability.
· Experience across a modern backend stack, such as polyglot services (Java, Go, Rust), event-driven and workflow-orchestration systems (Kafka, SQS, Temporal), and relational and NoSQL data stores (MySQL, DynamoDB).
· Extensive experience architecting, designing, and operating applications in an AWS cloud environment.
· Experience supporting and developing containerized CI/CD deployment such as Docker and Kubernetes.
· BS in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent experience.
Roadmap and Timeline to Success
Within the first 30 days you will:
· Onboard into your new role and get familiar with our product offering, platform, and technology.
· Get to know your engineers and leads, understand what motivates them, and identify their areas of development.
· Take ownership of your team's operating cadence, planning, standups, and retrospectives, so you have a direct, firsthand read on the team's work and its status.
· Seek to deeply understand the business problems and common engineering challenges your team owns, and begin forming your own view of them.
· Interview stakeholders to understand business goals, the product roadmap, and the challenges ahead.
By 90 days you will:
· Motivate, encourage, and challenge your team(s) to find optimal synergy.
· Understand the technical challenges ahead and actively participate in technical decision-making.
· Understand your team's decision-making process and challenge them to find more optimal solutions.
· Know the real status of your team's critical-path work at any time, without needing it surfaced for you.
· Have regular syncs with your stakeholders and own the cross-team commitments your team has made.
· Be implementing fast, iterative improvements to delivery and quality.
By 6 months you will:
· Be making significant, measurable progress on technical debt while balancing new feature delivery and defect resolution.
· Have a team that is consistently delivering on its commitments by deadline.
· Have earned the trust of your team and become a respected partner to your stakeholders.
· Be attracting and motivating excellent engineers who care about great teams and great software.
· Have your personal goals on track.
By 1 year you will:
· Have a team whose size and skills are aligned to your roadmap and operating efficiently.
· Have a team consistently achieving real business results and incremental milestones.
· Maintain a culture of continuous learning by coaching and developing your engineers along their chosen career paths.
· Consistently use data to objectively measure impact and optimize engineering processes.
· Consistently meet deadlines and coordinate with technical team members to deliver quality results.
