Our customers are warfighters and national security professionals who depend on seamless platform access. Failure is not an option—and neither is a slow or broken support response.
As an Enterprise Customer Operations Engineer on the Customer Support team, you will serve as the primary technical point of contact for customers operating on Game Warden—resolving incidents, troubleshooting complex technical issues, and ensuring the continued health and performance of customer environments. You'll work closely with Implementation Engineering, Platform Engineering, Product, and Mission Success to deliver reliable, high-quality operational support that keeps mission-critical applications running across DoD, IC, and government networks.

- Monitor customer environments, proactively identify emerging operational risks, and take action to prevent incidents before they impact customers.
- Escalate complex technical issues to Senior Enterprise Customer Operations Engineers and Platform Engineering with clear documentation of troubleshooting steps, findings, and customer impact.
- Navigate government change control processes and ATO-bounded environments, coordinating changes in compliance with customer operational constraints.

This is a pivotal role for an expert capable of shaping the future of defense software delivery and security.
As a Forward Support Engineer, you will leverage extensive experience in deploying, maintaining, and troubleshooting complex software and infrastructure within classified government and defense environments. This high-impact, client-facing position demands deep technical expertise and hands-on leadership in secure system deployments. You will operate directly with clients, traveling to on-site locations, providing strategic technical guidance to resolve unique challenges and ensuring the seamless operation of critical systems, particularly in Denied, Disrupted, Intermittent, and Limited (DDIL) network environments.
Note: This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Top Secret / SCI eligible security clearance. Candidates holding an active or interim DoD TS/SCI eligible clearance (or higher) are strongly preferred. WHAT YOU’LL DO:
- Lead the deployment and configuration of software solutions in secure, classified environments in support of US government customers. Work closely with our engineering and product teams to integrate complex systems and infrastructure.

- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including engineering, DevOps, and security to implement secure and scalable solutions.
- Maintain clear and concise documentation for system configurations, troubleshooting procedures, and security compliance activities.
- Monitor system performance, troubleshoot issues, and suggest optimizations to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of deployed solutions.
- Be on-site at client locations for system deployments, updates and troubleshooting during high impact operational exercises, integration and training events. Travel to remote locations may be required.
- Up to 50% travel may be required at times to support critical client integrations
SKILLS YOU’LL BRING TO OUR TEAM:
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in systems deployment, engineering, or operations in highly regulated environments (government, defense, etc.).
- Provide early, proactive input during customer kickoffs and architecture discussions to ensure deployment approaches align with accreditation requirements (RMF, STIGs, NIST 800-53) — flagging potential assessment issues before they become costly rework later in the process.
- Partner with customer assessors, compliance stakeholders, and internal security teams to understand the accreditation posture of each deployment environment (e.g., SIPR, IL4/5/6, FedRAMP) and ensure packaging and deployment decisions support a smooth authorization path.
- Support the accreditation lifecycle for customer deployments by contributing operational context and technical input into authorization artifacts (SSPs, POA&Ms, control narratives) as needed — without requiring sole ownership of artifact authorship.
- Identify and communicate architectural or configuration risks early in the deployment process that could jeopardize an assessor's approval, escalating and resolving these before go-live rather than after rejection.
- Build working fluency in the customer's accreditation environment and constraints (classification level, ATO status, change control processes) to deploy software in a way that respects and anticipates compliance requirements from day one.
- Proficiency in Linux (Ubuntu, CentOS, RedHat) server administration.
- Proficiency deploying, maintaining and working with Kubernetes.
- Proficiency in maintaining and troubleshooting Helm charts within Kubernetes deployments
- Proficiency working in on prem and cloud environments (AWS, Azure, GCP)
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines, version control, and automation.
- Proficiency with networking concepts, including VPNs, VLANs, and firewalls.
- Experience in task automation with a language (e.g., Go, Rust, Python, Bash).
- Excellent communication skills and ability to interact with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Hands-on experience with deploying complex systems in cloud or on-premise environments.
- Strong understanding of security protocols and best practices, including encryption, firewalls, access control, and identity management.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience working in a startup environment
- Knowledge of DevSecOps tools and practices
- Experience with monitoring and alerting systems (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana)
- Familiarity with 2F’s tech stack: AWS, Talos Linux, Kubernetes, Docker, Helm, Istio, Git, GitLab, Terraform, relational databases

Senior Forward Deployed Engineer - Implementation Focus
Second Front Systems · Washington, DC, District of Columbia , United States
Pay
$160k–190k
Setting
Remote
Second Front Systems is looking for an operationally experienced, technically rigorous Senior Forward Deployed Engineer - Implementation to strengthen our implementation function across federal deployments.
Operating at forward-deployed environments where Game Warden onboarding determines mission readiness, you will be responsible for owning technical success of complex customer implementations, establishing implementation standards, and translating field friction into platform improvements.
You will lead highest-stakes onboarding engagements, mentor Implementation Engineers on configuration and troubleshooting, and partner with Product and Platform Engineering to harden deployment processes, ensuring that customers achieve secure, accredited Game Warden deployments on schedule and Implementation Engineers operate from documented, tested procedures.
We need someone capable of managing multi-week onboarding engagements with minimal support, where integration failures create operational risk; diagnosing configuration and infrastructure issues across classified and unclassified networks, and documenting root causes as permanent fixes; and building consensus between field realities and product roadmap decisions, translating warfighter constraints into engineering requirements.
As a key partner to product, Platform Engineering, and Federal Sales leadership, you will reduce post-deployment support costs, compress onboarding timelines, and accelerate customer accreditation by embedding lessons learned into the platform, serving as the technical authority who ensures Game Warden deployments succeed in contested environments.
Note: Candidates must reside in one of our approved hiring hubs:
• DC/Maryland/Virginia
• Raleigh/Durham/Chapel Hill, NC
• Denver/Colorado Springs, CO
• Dallas/Fort Worth, TX
What You'll Do
• Own the technical strategy and execution for 2F's most complex and highest-visibility customer deployment implementations, including first-of-kind application onboardings and multi-agency or multi-enclave rollouts.
• Serve as the senior-most subject matter expert on Second Front products across Implementation, building the internal enablement materials and technical playbooks the rest of the team relies on.
• Own and continuously improve onboarding and customer support processes across the Implementation function — identifying systemic friction and driving it out with better tooling, documentation, or automation rather than one-off fixes.
• Lead onboarding of customer applications into GameWarden for security scanning, including the technically hardest cases — legacy architectures, unusual dependency chains, or non-standard compliance postures.
• Partner directly with Product and Platform Engineering leadership, feeding implementation-pattern insights into the platform roadmap.
• Architect and configure complex cloud-based customer deployments across AWS, GCP, and Azure, making design decisions other engineers on the team will follow as precedent.
• Resolve escalations from other Implementation Engineers, unblocking stalled deployments and coaching them through novel technical problems.
• Represent 2F technically in front of senior customer stakeholders and program managers, and collaborate cross-functionally with Sales and Platform Engineering throughout the customer lifecycle.
What You Bring
• 8–10+ years of experience in software engineering, DevOps, cloud engineering, or implementation/deployment engineering, with demonstrated ownership of complex, production-grade deployments (not just execution of defined tasks).
• Advanced Linux installation, troubleshooting, and maintenance expertise, including hands-on hardening and support of on-premises hardware at scale.
• Deep DevSecOps tooling and practices knowledge, with experience building or maturing implementation/onboarding processes rather than only following them.
• Strong communication under pressure, with a track record of leading technical conversations directly with senior customer stakeholders during high-stakes deployments.
• Demonstrated mentorship and technical leadership of other engineers, including acting as an escalation point on difficult problems.
• A track record of diagnosing and resolving integration friction between customer legacy systems and modern software stacks, with judgment about when and more importantly, how to push back on customer architecture versus when to engineer around constraints.
• DoD Top Secret/SCI clearance eligibility required; active or interim clearance strongly preferred.
• Ability to travel up to 25%.
Preferred
The base salary for this position will fall between $160,000 and $190,000. Your ultimate compensation will be determined by professional background, technical proficiency, seniority, and regional cost factors. Furthermore, this opportunity includes potential eligibility for equity awards and discretionary bonuses, rounding out a comprehensive total rewards offering.

Pay
$160k–200k

Second Front Systems is looking for a senior technical leader with field deployment experience Senior Forward Deployed Engineer to strengthen our Federal Sales engineering organization.
Operating at customer sites ranging from connected networks to classified SCIFs with DDIL constraints, you will be responsible for owning technical relationships for high-visibility defense and intelligence community missions, leading deployments into denied environments, and mentoring forward deployed engineers across the bench.
You will set architectural direction for Game Warden integration into customer networks, resolve mission-critical issues in zero-connectivity scenarios, and translate field realities into product roadmap priorities, ensuring that 2F's most sensitive engagements deliver on technical commitments and customers achieve operational objectives.
We need someone capable of managing complex deployments in classified environments with full accountability for technical outcomes, diagnosing and resolving critical failures in real-time without escalation paths or external dependencies, and mentoring junior engineers and establishing technical standards that scale across customer engagements.
As a key partner to engineering, Security/Compliance, and Product leadership, you will feed customer operational challenges and platform gaps directly into development priorities, ensure 2F's platform serves warfighter needs, serving as the senior technical authority for 2F's most demanding customer relationships.
Note: Candidates must reside in one of our approved hiring hubs:
• DC/Maryland/Virginia
• Raleigh/Durham/Chapel Hill, NC
• Denver/Colorado Springs, CO
• Dallas/Fort Worth, TX
What You'll Do
• Own end-to-end technical delivery for 2F's highest-complexity government and defense engagements — architecting, deploying, and sustaining Game Warden and integrated customer workloads across classified networks, DDIL environments, and multiple Impact Levels (IL2–IL6) and JWICS.
• Serve as the senior technical escalation point and primary client-facing authority, representing 2F to senior customer stakeholders (program managers, ISSOs/ISSMs, mission owners) and making real-time architectural and risk-tradeoff decisions on-site.
• Lead and mentor other Forward Deployed and DevSecOps Engineers — setting technical standards, reviewing designs, and building the playbooks that let the team scale to new missions faster.
• Deploy and harden secure Kubernetes-based infrastructure (Talos Linux, Docker, Istio, GitLab, Helm, Terraform) to sustain a Zero Trust (ZT) environment across customer cloud and on prem environments.
• Translate field experience into product and platform improvements, working directly with Engineering and Product leadership to prioritize the roadmap based on real deployment friction.
• Drive accreditation and continuous ATO (cATO) outcomes in partnership with the security/compliance team — producing and validating evidence against NIST 800-53, RMF, STIGs, and FedRAMP controls, and owning remediation of findings from 3PAO assessments and penetration tests.
• Maintain rigorous configuration management, security documentation, and audit-ready evidence across all engagements, and supporting the 2F team in customer security reviews and audits.
• Travel to client locations as needed for complex system deployments, updates and troubleshooting during high impact operational exercises, integration and training events.
What You Bring
• 7-10 years of experience in systems deployment, DevSecOps, or platform engineering in regulated/classified government environments, including demonstrated ownership of complex, mission-critical deployments (not just support/execution).
• Multi-cloud, government-authorized infrastructure: Hands-on experience deploying and hardening workloads across AWS GovCloud/Commercial, Microsoft Azure Government, and Google Cloud, including Infrastructure-as-Code (Terraform, CloudFormation, or equivalent) tailored to DoD Impact Level 2–6 and JWICS environments.
• Container & orchestration security: Expertise securing Kubernetes/OpenShift or equivalent container platforms — image hardening, admission controls, network policies, and runtime security — within accredited enclaves.
• Observability & incident response: Skilled in implementing logging, monitoring, and alerting stacks (ELK, Splunk, Prometheus/Grafana) to support 24/7 incident response, penetration test remediation, and Day 2 operations.
• Expert level proficiency in Linux (Talos, RedHat) server administration, along with deploying and maintaining Kubernetes on cloud platforms and disparate compute hardware.
• Demonstrated leadership: experience mentoring engineers, leading technical design reviews, or acting as a technical lead on customer-facing engagements.
• Strong scripting/automation ability in Go, Rust, Python, or Bash, with a track record of building internal tooling to remove manual toil from security and operations workflows.
• Active DoD Top Secret/SCI clearance (or eligibility, with active clearance strongly preferred); U.S. citizenship required.
Preferred
The base salary for this position will fall between $160,000 and $200,000. Your ultimate compensation will be determined by professional background, technical proficiency, seniority, and regional cost factors. Furthermore, this opportunity includes potential eligibility for equity awards and discretionary bonuses, rounding out a comprehensive total rewards offering.
