What's the one game you couldn't put down? The game that connected you with friends, and made you feel like you belonged? If a game has ever defined a chapter of your life, then you already know the spark we’re chasing. Our mission is to ignite that same feeling for players; the thrill of competition, the joy of community, and the belonging of finding your own corner of a larger world.
Great games begin with people who dare to dream big. If that sounds exciting, you might be exactly who we’re looking for.
Bonfire is a group of experienced and ambitious developers, proud to be creating our first original IP: Arkheron. It is a fast-paced, competitive PVP game set in a surreal dark fantasy world where 15 teams of three battle their way up the Tower. In a world built from memories, you will loot powerful items to create and adapt a unique build-out that will change your strategy and combat experience with every Ascension.
The best way to understand our People Experience team is in their own words — here’s how they describe their work.
On the People Experience team, people are at the heart of everything we do, and our team is dedicated to finding extraordinary talent and creating an environment and culture they can thrive in. Whether a potential candidate, team member or a new contract partner, we are passionate about creating a welcoming and inclusive community that empowers each individual to do their best work and feel connected. As a diverse team of experts with a deep commitment to exceptional experiences, we create a tailored employee journey that begins at onboarding and lasts throughout your entire career at Bonfire and beyond. From fostering your growth and development to offering robust benefits that provide support to you and your family, we’re the scaffolding that amazing teams and great games are built on.
We're looking for a strategic Finance and Accounting leader to join our Operations group to define Bonfire’s long-term approach to revenue, expense recognition, and reporting as our business model evolves. This isn't a role about executing the close and moving on. It's about setting the direction other teams build on, so that every close, every forecast, and every decision leadership makes is grounded in numbers people can trust. Your work will shape how the whole studio understands its own performance, and how confidently we act on what we learn. If you want real ownership over how that story gets told, and want to build the systems and judgment other people lean on to tell it well, this role was built for you.
YOU’LL CONTRIBUTE BY:
Setting the company's revenue recognition policy and methodology under ASC 606 (including box sales, microtransactions, and virtual currency), and partnering with the studio to keep the data behind it accurate and timely
Leading the close process end-to-end, directing an external accounting team and AP/AR resources, while building the judgment and quality bar they operate against
Owning platform and publisher reporting, including reconciling statements from Sony, Microsoft, Valve, and PC cafés, and using that visibility for crucial internal reporting, resolving systemic discrepancies, and improving royalty/licensing reporting to our partners
Leading cross-functional alignment with business, publishing, analytics, and live ops so that we have a cohesive structure for financial data and analytics across the studio
Owning treasury strategy and execution, including banking controls, liquidity management, excess cash investment, and corporate insurance strategy, with authority to set policy, not just execute it
Leading ERP transformation, owning the evaluation, business case, and roadmap for our next accounting systems, and building the automation strategy that will scale with the business for years, not just the next close
Leading cross-functional alignment with business, publishing, analytics, live ops, and FP&A, connecting forecasting, KPI reporting, and revenue insight directly to studio-wide product and live-ops strategy, and shaping how those teams think about revenue before decisions get made
Serving as a crucial partner in Finance Leadership, representing the finance function in high-stakes, high-ambiguity conversations such as external audits, tax structuring, and financial due diligence
Establishing the financial rigor Bonfire operates by today, with room to mentor and develop the team as it scales
WE’RE EXCITED ABOUT YOU BECAUSE YOU:
Have 10+ years of accounting experience, including 7+ years in video games, with a track record of building or overhauling revenue recognition frameworks, not just applying existing ones
Know ASC 606 well enough to originate policy positions on novel monetization models before precedent exists
Have led relationships with major publishers and platform holders, not just processed their reporting
Are deeply fluent in deferred revenue modeling, virtual currency accounting, and international royalty structures, and have shaped how a studio approaches them
Have led an ERP evaluation or migration and can make the business case for systems investment
CPA required.
Are comfortable operating with significant autonomy in ambiguous, high-stakes, fast-changing environments
Bonus points if you've supported multi-platform live-service titles at scale and have experience building or leading a team
THIS MIGHT NOT BE THE ROLE FOR YOU IF:
You haven't worked with premium games, DLC, virtual currency, subscriptions, or live-service monetization; this role assumes that context
You want a clearly scoped, well-defined function with an established roadmap to execute against; this role is about building the definition and the roadmap, not inheriting either
You want to lead from a distance and don't want to stay close to the details; we're looking for someone who still finds satisfaction in getting reconciliations and journal entries right, even while leading the function
You're looking for a purely functional accounting role; this spans treasury, FP&A strategy, ERP transformation, and org-wide financial rigor
YOU’LL LOVE WORKING AT BONFIRE BECAUSE WE:
Embrace bold challenges with creativity and courage, making the tough calls to build a game we’re proud to play every day.
Keep fun at the core: we play Arkheron daily, staying grounded as players. If it’s not more fun than yesterday, we fix it. We don’t chase trends; we listen by playing.
Stay truly independent, with decisions driven by the team — not by investors or a board.
Thrive in a culture of passion, trust, and shared ownership; where transparency matters and egos don’t.
The base salary range for this role is $195,000-$244,000 USD. Depending on your experience and level (whether you’re closer to mid-level or principal), your offer may land above or below that range. We don’t just look at years on a résumé — we think about the impact you can have on the team and the game. Of course, compensation at Bonfire goes beyond salary. Every new teammate receives equity, plus a full benefits package and some extra perks to make work (and life) better. When we connect, we’ll happily walk you through the full details.

And don’t worry — anything you share with us in the application process is just for recruiting and won’t be shared. You can read more in our privacy policy.

Bonfire is a group of experienced and ambitious developers, proud to be creating our first original IP: Arkheron. In a world built from memories, you will loot powerful items to create and adapt a unique build-out that will change your strategy and combat experience with every Ascension.
The best way to understand our Engineering team is in their own words — here’s how they describe their work.
On the Engineering team at Bonfire, it is about more than code. For us, it's essential to build a deep understanding and intuitive sense of what makes our game special through our players' hearts and minds. Guided by this sensibility, we form close partnerships with artists and designers to challenge ourselves, exploring creative and fun ways to evolve the game together. We ruthlessly prioritize what matters most and continually weigh trade-offs in our pursuit of making both playing and building our game feel great.
As a Principal/Lead Systems Engineer, you will play a central role in shaping the foundational technology powering Arkheron, our first game and a cross-platform competitive multiplayer title. This role demands deep experience building systems for competitive multiplayer games, where engine performance, hardware constraints, and platform characteristics have a direct impact on responsiveness and player experience.
We are at a transformative stage in our engine technology, and we are looking for someone to help shape its development toward data-centric principles; to make Arkheron feel great to play for players, and great to build for our developers through fast and reliable iteration.
YOU’LL CONTRIBUTE BY:
Shaping the architecture, optimization, and long-term evolution of core engine systems in Unity/DOTS (C# and C/C++) — spanning runtime performance, memory management, platform-specific optimization (PC and consoles), networking infrastructure, graphics, and tooling.
Driving complex technical decisions across console performance and low-level systems architecture, with reach into graphics, tooling, and engine infrastructure to ensure our systems scale for both developers and players.
Collaborating with internal and external leads to advance engine platform capabilities — including console features, anti-cheat, and team workflows.
Tackling high-impact projects such as optimizing iteration pipelines, building live-editable profiling systems, and enhancing runtime systems like rendering, streaming, and netcode.
Creating tools and APIs that make developers' lives easier and help the team deliver high-quality content faster.
Jumping into other areas as needed — from audio to UI to gameplay systems — to support the broader team.
Contributing beyond core engineering, leaning on your passions and perspectives to help the studio grow.
(Lead) Providing technical leadership and mentorship across a senior engineering team — fostering autonomy, accountability, and growth through clear direction, constructive feedback, and deliberate skill development.
WE’RE EXCITED ABOUT YOU BECAUSE YOU:
Have shipped multiple titles with deep, hands-on experience leading technical direction on proprietary, custom, or heavily modified engines for AAA games on PC and modern consoles.
Bring proven experience building and optimizing systems for competitive multiplayer games, with a sharp understanding of how low-level decisions impact responsiveness and player experience.
Have deep expertise in high-performance real-time systems, multi-threaded architecture, and ECS paradigms.
(Lead) Have led and grown senior engineering teams, and can provide the mentorship and clarity that high-performing engineers need to do their best work.
Enjoy solving the hardest problems — whether debugging elusive issues, optimizing complex systems, or making foundational architectural calls with long-term consequences.
Thrive on curiosity and adaptability, eager to dive into new areas and unfamiliar code.
Value collaboration, trust, and diverse perspectives, building strong partnerships across the studio.
Carry a genuine passion for both technology and the creative process of making games.
THIS MIGHT NOT BE THE ROLE FOR YOU IF:
You prefer working only within well-defined boundaries — this role requires diving into unfamiliar systems and solving problems across performance, console, graphics, and tooling.
You're most comfortable using engines off the shelf rather than going deep into proprietary or heavily customized ones.
You haven't shipped competitive multiplayer games or don't have strong intuition for how low-level systems decisions affect player experience at scale.
You prefer focusing on gameplay features rather than engine-level systems, optimizations, or developer tools.
Debugging, profiling, and low-level optimizations feel tedious instead of energizing.
You're uncomfortable working in a live service environment where iteration, scalability, and constant improvement are essential.
(Lead) You're earlier in your leadership journey — this role requires credibly leading and mentoring a team of senior engineers, not growing into that responsibility.

In a world built from memories, you will loot powerful items to create and adapt a unique build-out that will change your strategy and combat experience with every Ascension.
The best way to understand our Art team is in their own words — here’s how they describe their work.
Our goal is to immerse players in an extraordinary and haunting realm. From initial concept art to final in-game elements, we are crafting a compelling aesthetic experience that seamlessly blends with and brings to life the game’s narrative, level design, combat and audio. We play the game daily and our deep understanding of it allows us to deliver visuals that put the player experience first, while still pushing artistic boundaries to fully capture the unique tone and unforgettable atmosphere of the Arkheron’s world.
We are looking for a Senior/Principal Environment Artist with the technical grit to turn surreal concepts into high-fidelity, AAA landscapes. You aren't just an asset creator here - you are a primary architect. You will elevate the visual language of our first IP, translating our established world into immersive environments where every vista serves the story and every layout is purpose-built for competitive gameplay.
YOU’LL CONTRIBUTE BY:
Building high-quality, in-game environment art that brings the world of Arkheron to life—architecture, materials, props, vistas, and set dressing.
Owning environment assets end-to-end, from concept or blockout through final in-engine implementation.
Creating fully realized architectural kits, ensuring they are visually cohesive, performant, and flexible for level design.
Partnering closely with design, lighting, engineering, and other art disciplines to ensure environments support gameplay, readability, and visual storytelling.
Balancing artistic fidelity with gameplay and technical needs, making smart tradeoffs that serve player experience.
Conducting research and gathering reference to push quality, authenticity, and cohesion across the world.
Contributing ideas early and often, helping shape the visual language and identity of a new IP.
Operating with a high degree of autonomy, pushing work forward in a small, evolving team without needing rigid structure.
Wearing multiple hats, using your experience to contribute beyond pure asset creation when it benefits the game.
Collaborate with downstream departments to proactively follow your environmental work through production and into final implementation.
Helping shape the game and studio culture, bringing thoughtfulness, curiosity, and craftsmanship to how we build together.
WE’RE EXCITED ABOUT YOU BECAUSE YOU:
Are a strong, self-directed world builder who can take an idea from a rough sketch to a polished, in-game environment.
Have deep experience creating AAA-quality environment art, ideally with at least one shipped AAA title.
Bring a sharp eye for organic forms, architecture, materials, color, composition, and spatial storytelling.
Are proficient with industry-standard tools (Maya or equivalent, ZBrush, Photoshop, Substance, and real-time engines).
Understand the realities of game development pipelines, including optimization, lighting, PBR materials, UVs, and engine constraints.
Think developer- and product-first, caring about how environments affect gameplay, flow, and player experience.
Thrive in highly collaborative, cross-disciplinary teams, and communicate clearly with partners across the studio.
Are comfortable working through ambiguity and taking initiative without waiting for perfect direction.
Value trust, openness, and diverse perspectives.
Have a growth mindset and enjoy learning, experimenting, and refining your craft.
Want to make a meaningful impact in a tight-knit studio where your work visibly shapes the game.
THIS MIGHT NOT BE THE ROLE FOR YOU IF:
You prefer working in large, highly specialized teams with narrow ownership and rigid pipelines.
You need extremely detailed direction for every task and are uncomfortable navigating ambiguity.
You’re most excited by standalone asset creation rather than holistic world building.
You’re not interested in collaborating closely with design, lighting, and engineering.
You’re looking for a role where responsibilities are strictly defined and don’t evolve over time.
You’re uninterested in contributing beyond your immediate discipline or shaping a new IP.
The base salary range for this role is $174,800 - $221,817. Depending on your experience and level (whether you’re closer to mid-level or principal), your offer may land above or below that range. As our Lead Animator, you’ll be accountable for how our game moves and how our animation discipline grows. You’ll set vision, mentor artists, evolve pipelines, and hold the quality bar high for a competitive, combat-driven multiplayer experience. At the same time, you’ll stay close to the craft, guiding combat feel and gameplay clarity from prototype through polish, helping ensure that every movement in our world carries intention and that the team behind it continues to level up.
YOU’LL CONTRIBUTE BY:
Inspiring and guiding the animation discipline, setting the creative vision and quality bar for characters and combat in a competitive multiplayer game.
Leading and mentoring a lean animation team, fostering autonomy, accountability, and growth through clear expectations, constructive feedback, and thoughtful development.
Balancing leadership with hands-on creation, contributing directly to gameplay animation while setting standards and pushing ideas forward independently.
Partnering with cross-discipline leads (design, engineering, art, production) to align animation with gameplay systems, technical realities, and the overall player experience.
Owning combat feel and moment-to-moment gameplay expression, ensuring characters are readable, responsive, expressive, and impactful.
Driving production clarity and execution, prioritizing animation goals, pipelines, and team focus while balancing fidelity, performance, and schedule.
Evolving animation systems and workflows, including thoughtful use of motion capture, keyframe techniques, and external partnerships.
Guiding and reviewing external animation partners, maintaining a high craft bar across both internal and outsourced work.
Contributing to studio-wide hiring, onboarding, and team-building efforts to grow and strengthen the animation discipline.
Fostering accountability and self-sufficiency, empowering the team to solve problems proactively while maintaining strong collaboration.
WE’RE EXCITED ABOUT YOU BECAUSE YOU:
Have proven experience creating high-quality, in-game animations, ideally across multiple shipped titles.
Are energized by competitive multiplayer combat and understand the critical role animation plays in readability, feel, and fairness.
Bring a strong understanding of combat systems and how animation drives responsiveness and player satisfaction.
Have experience developing animation systems, ideally in new or evolving engines.
Are comfortable owning features end-to-end, from early exploration through final implementation.
Are highly skilled at conveying character through gameplay animation, not just cinematics.
Push for animation excellence while always putting gameplay quality first.
Thrive in tight-knit, highly collaborative teams and communicate clearly across disciplines.
Are self-directed, adaptable, and able to focus on what matters most for the game right now.
Believe great games are built by great teams that put people first.
Value trust, openness, humility, curiosity, and enjoy learning alongside others.
Have a growth mindset and care deeply about helping teammates develop.
Want to make a meaningful impact on a new IP and shape both the role and the studio as we grow.
THIS MIGHT NOT BE THE ROLE FOR YOU IF:
You prefer to focus solely on individual contribution and don’t enjoy coaching, mentoring, or guiding others.
You’re looking for a role where the animation vision is already fully defined and doesn’t require iteration or collaboration.
You’re uncomfortable balancing creative ambition with gameplay, tech, and production realities.
You prefer rigid role boundaries and aren’t excited by wearing multiple hats in a small, evolving team.
Competitive multiplayer games—or the tradeoffs they require—don’t genuinely excite you.
You’re seeking a highly siloed environment rather than a studio where cross-discipline collaboration is constant and expected

At Bonfire, we believe great games are built on more than features — they’re built on deep player understanding, thoughtful decisions, and the tools that help teams act on both. Our Platform group builds the systems that connect players to the studio: analytics that reveal how people play, community tools that shape how they connect, and marketing and messaging infrastructure that determines when, where, and how we show up for them.
This team owns the foundation behind Arkheron and future projects — from data pipelines and experimentation frameworks to community and martech systems that power real player-facing experiences. While much of the work happens behind the scenes, the impact shows up directly in how players discover the game, engage with each other, and experience the world over time.
This role focuses on the shared platform systems and tools that enable teams to make better decisions and deliver better player experiences at scale. (Note: responsibilities such as owning game feature development, monetization design, or franchise strategy fall within other roles at Bonfire).
If you’re energized by shaping what gets built, why it matters to players, and how teams make better decisions through strong systems and tooling, this could be a great role for you.
YOU’LL CONTRIBUTE BY:
Owning product direction for platform systems that enable and support player-facing experiences, shaping roadmap, priorities, and long-term vision.
Translating player behavior into action, partnering closely with analytics and insights to turn telemetry, experimentation, and qualitative signals into clear product opportunities.
Prioritizing ruthlessly by weighing player value, studio leverage, and technical investment to decide what to build, what to buy, and what not to do.
Defining requirements for platform capabilities (such as messaging, campaigns, triggers, segmentation, and experimentation) used by game and publishing teams to deliver customer-facing experiences.
Shaping how the studio interacts with players at scale through shared systems and tooling, without setting game design or monetization strategy.
Connecting platform investments to measurable outcomes — such as improved onboarding, healthier communities, and better retention — by enabling teams with better data, tools, and workflows.
Partnering deeply with engineering and technical leads to scope solutions, evaluate tradeoffs, and ensure systems are scalable, maintainable, and fit for long-term use.
Collaborating with Arkheron’s development team by advocating for platform capabilities that unlock options and flexibility, without prescribing creative or gameplay decisions.
Designing for internal users by working hand-in-hand with design and UX to build tools that are intuitive, efficient, and enjoyable for developers to use.
WE’RE EXCITED ABOUT YOU BECAUSE YOU:
Have 5+ years of experience in product, analytics, or a data-driven role, with 2+ years shaping platform, infrastructure, or internal tooling products that support customer-facing outcomes.
Think naturally in player journeys and customer interactions, while working on systems rather than direct game features.
Use data to guide decisions, with strong instincts around metrics, telemetry, experimentation, and identifying meaningful signals versus noise.
Bring hands-on experience with martech and player engagement systems (campaign engines, triggers, segmentation, attribution, messaging workflows).
Understand modern community ecosystems (Discord integrations, bots, role systems) and how tooling choices shape player behavior and culture.
Are fluent in engineering concepts and tradeoffs, comfortable discussing APIs, data pipelines, telemetry, and build-vs-buy decisions with technical partners.
Balance competing inputs from game teams, publishing, analytics, and design — and can prioritize clearly when everything feels important.
Communicate with clarity and empathy, building strong relationships across disciplines.
THIS MIGHT NOT BE THE ROLE FOR YOU IF:
You want lots of process and structure already in place.
You prefer player-facing product over internal platforms + tooling.
Data, telemetry, and experimentation aren't core to how you make decisions.
You shy away from technically complex domains or API/data discussions.
Balancing competing stakeholder needs drains you more than it energizes you.
The base salary range for this role is $196,500 - $247,133.
