About the role:
We're hiring a Product Security Engineer to build Collective's application security program — with AI agents at the center of it from day one. This is not a legacy appsec role where you triage a scanner queue by hand: you'll design and operate an agentic appsec pipeline where automated security testing across the stack — static analysis, dynamic testing, and dependency scanning — combines with AI-driven triage and automated security review of code changes to give engineering teams fast, high-signal feedback. Alongside the program, you'll drive vulnerability remediation across the platform — from finding to verified fix — and make targeted code changes that eliminate whole classes of vulnerabilities rather than patching them one at a time. You'll work closely with product engineers on a platform that handles our members' financial and tax data, where the cost of a missed vulnerability is real.
What you'll do:
- Build and operate an agentic application security program: the full testing stack — SAST, DAST, and software composition analysis (SCA) — integrated into CI/CD, LLM-based triage that separates real findings from noise, and automated security review of pull requests — so security feedback arrives in minutes, not review cycles.
- Drive vulnerability remediation end to end: triage and rate findings from scanners, penetration tests, and researchers; route fixes to owning teams; track them to closure against SLAs; and verify that fixes actually close the hole.
- Eliminate vulnerability classes at the root: ship secure defaults, paved-path libraries, and framework-level fixes so the easy way to write a feature is also the safe way — targeted, well-scoped code changes in the product codebase.
- Lead threat modeling and security review for new features and platform changes, engaging with product engineers early in design rather than at the end — and automate the practice over time, so threat models are living documents that agents draft and update as the system changes rather than point-in-time artifacts.
- Tune and evolve the program's signal quality: new rules, better prompts, fewer false positives — treating the agentic pipeline itself as a product you iterate on.
- Stay current on the vulnerability landscape relevant to a fintech platform handling sensitive financial and tax data, and translate what matters into concrete program changes.
What you'll bring:
- 4+ years of security engineering experience with real depth in application security: you know the major vulnerability classes cold — how they're introduced, exploited, and durably fixed — and you've improved the security posture of a production platform, not just reported on it.
- Hands-on experience with SAST, DAST, and SCA tooling and CI/CD integration — Semgrep, CodeQL, Bandit, OWASP ZAP, Burp Suite, or equivalent — including the judgment to know which findings matter.
- Genuine enthusiasm for building with LLMs and AI agents: you've used them to automate security work (or are visibly on your way there), you can write and evaluate the prompts and workflows that make agentic tooling reliable, and you treat AI as leverage rather than a threat to the craft.
- Enough software engineering skill to make confident, well-scoped changes in a production codebase — reading unfamiliar code, shipping a paved-path library, fixing a vulnerability pattern across a service (we run Python/Django on AWS). Building large systems from scratch is not the center of this role; landing precise changes in someone else's code is.
- Experience driving remediation through teams you don't manage: clear writeups, severity calls you can defend, and the persistence to get fixes over the line without burning relationships.
- Product empathy: security feedback that engineers act on is feedback shaped for how they work — you optimize for fixed vulnerabilities, not filed tickets.
What we offer:
- Hybrid Work Model: Based in San Francisco with a balance of in-office and remote flexibility.
- Fresh Lunch: Provided on in-office days.
- Commuter Support: $150 monthly reimbursement for transit expenses.
- Health & Wellness: $200 quarterly reimbursement to support your well-being.

About the role:
We're hiring a Senior/Staff Product Security Engineer to build the security-critical systems at the heart of Collective's member platform. This is a software engineering role first: you'll design and ship the code that governs how our platform authenticates users and services, what they're authorized to do, and how our members' data is protected. You'll own the authentication and authorization architecture end to end — not as a reviewer or advisor, but as the engineer whose commits land in production. You'll set the direction of this work, not just execute it: what gets built and in what order. As Collective expands its use of AI and agent-based workflows, you'll build the patterns those systems use to authenticate and operate safely. You'll sit on the Security team and spend your days in the product codebase, working alongside product engineers.
What you'll do:
- Own the end-to-end authentication and authorization architecture of Collective's member platform — session management, multi-factor authentication, authorization enforcement, and machine-to-machine authentication — and personally design, write, and ship the changes that improve it.
- Extend those patterns to delegated and agent-based access: how AI agents and third parties act on a member's behalf with scoped, time-boxed, revocable authority — and how their actions are attributed and audited.
- Drive the programmatic protection of sensitive member data: design and implement application-layer encryption for member documents and data — key management, envelope encryption, rotation — and build the controls that protect sensitive data in code (scoped access, tokenization, redaction in logs and pipelines) rather than in policy.
- Lead the design process for the systems you own: write RFCs, run design reviews, and bring product engineers along on security-critical changes.
- Threat-model the identity and data-protection systems you build, and own remediation of findings that touch your domain.
- Ground encryption and access-control decisions in the regulatory requirements that apply to a platform handling sensitive member data.
What you'll bring:
- 8+ years of software engineering experience, including significant time building or owning authentication, identity, authorization, or data-protection systems in production.
- Strong backend engineering skills — you're fluent shipping production code in a modern web stack (we run Python/Django on AWS), and you're comfortable making substantial changes to a codebase other teams depend on.
- Deep working knowledge of authentication standards and their failure modes: OAuth 2.0 (including token exchange and delegation patterns), OIDC, SAML, JWT, session management, and the differences between securing user-facing and machine-to-machine flows.
- Practical applied-cryptography literacy: envelope encryption, KMS-based key management, key rotation, and the tradeoffs of encrypting data at the field, document, and storage layers. You don't need to be a cryptographer — you need to know how to use cryptography correctly in a production system.
- Enough security fluency to reason about threats to the systems you build and to hold your own in a threat-modeling session. Deep security specialization is not required — you'll have teammates who bring it; what can't be delegated is the engineering.
- Comfort operating as a senior individual contributor who influences platform direction through RFCs, design reviews, and working code rather than a management chain.
- Product empathy: the ability to hold security rigor and member experience in the same frame — auth flows are the front door of the product, and getting them wrong in either direction is expensive.
- Time Off: Flexible PTO plus 14 company holidays.
- Comprehensive Coverage: 100% medical, dental, and vision for employees; 75% coverage for dependents.

- Experience integrating with third-party APIs and working with messy, real-world data
- Hands-on use of AI developer tools (copilots, code agents) in your day-to-day workflow — not just experiments
- Ability to take a well-scoped problem and drive it to a shipped, instrumented solution with light guidance
- Good product and UX instincts to make sensible scope tradeoffs and ask the right clarifying questions before building
- Clear written and verbal communication, especially when explaining tradeoffs to non-engineering partners
- Familiarity with SQL and working with data warehouses (BigQuery a plus)
- Interest in the accounting / fintech / payroll domain, or a track record of getting up to speed quickly in a new domain

We're hiring a Product Lead for our Core Platform to architect the connective tissue of the entire Collective member experience. This role owns the horizontal infrastructure — the unified task system, dashboard, messaging layer, and core UI components — that every vertical product at Collective is built on top of.
Reporting directly to the CEO, you'll define and build a function that doesn't yet exist, embedding AI into the platform layer from the ground up and setting the standards that every other product team adopts.
What you'll do:
- Own the vision, strategy, and roadmap for Collective's Core Platform — the unified task system, dashboard, messaging infrastructure, and shared components that define every member's experience across the entire product ecosystem
- Define and mandate the System of Record for tasks and communications that all vertical product teams (Payroll, Accounting, Tax, etc.) must adopt to ensure a coherent, low-noise member experience
- Architect the AI integration layer and design how the AI support system connects to the task framework to proactively guide members, deflect support load, and reduce friction before members ever need to contact a human agent
- Set the technical standards for task schemas, notification logic, lifecycle states, component contracts, that make it possible for vertical teams to build on your platform without fragmenting the experience
- Partner with Internal Tools and Operations to ensure human-in-the-loop workflows have the visibility, automation, and tooling they need to support members efficiently and move toward automated resolution where AI can carry the load
- Drive the roadmap and make tradeoff decisions between platform integrity, vertical team speed, and immediate business priorities — with a clear point of view on each call
- Measure platform health through the right metrics — shared system adoption, task completion rates, AI deflection rates, ops efficiency — and use that data to drive prioritization
- Lead cross-functional alignment across product, engineering, design, and ops to ensure the platform layer gets built, adopted, and continuously improved
What you'll bring:
- 7+ years of product management or technical experience, with meaningful time spent on platform, infrastructure, or horizontal systems products — you've owned the layer that other teams build on top of
- AI product experience — you've shipped products where AI is embedded in the core workflow, not bolted on as a feature. Ideally hands-on with LLMs, agentic systems, or AI support layers in a real product context; at minimum, deeply fluent in AI capabilities
- Platform builder instincts — you know the difference between a product for end users and infrastructure for a product organization, and how to implement both.
- First-principles thinking under ambiguity — this role is being invented. You won't inherit a roadmap; you'll write one from scratch
- Strong cross-functional credibility — you can hold a platform standard without burning peer relationships, and you know when to enforce versus when to flex based on legitimate edge cases
- Data fluency — comfortable diagnosing platform health, measuring system adoption, and making prioritization decisions from data without needing a translation layer
Comfort operating in fast-paced, high-growth environments where the product and the org are being built simultaneously
What we offer:
- Hybrid Work Model: Based in San Francisco with a balance of in-office and remote flexibility
- Fresh Lunch: Provided on in-office days
- Commuter Support: $200 monthly reimbursement for transit expenses
- Health & Wellness: $200 quarterly reimbursement to support your well-being
