Role summary
At the application traffic layer, only Google processes more volume than Tetrate. We manage 2 trillion application transactions annually ranging from high-frequency API authorization and multi-provider traffic steering to AI agent routing. This is the high-density layer where OpenAI and some of the Fortune 50 solve for performance, observability, cost, and security at scale. At this level of transaction density, a single user interaction triggers a massive cascade of internal operations that legacy infrastructure simply wasn't designed to handle.
At Tetrate, we work with leading enterprises—including major financial institutions and numerous multi-million-dollar customers—to solve complex application networking, security, and platform challenges. As the creators of Envoy Gateway and Envoy AI Gateway, we build technology for environments where reliability, governance, and scale are not optional. We're building a world-class field engineering organization and looking for hands-on technical talent who want to help customers turn modern infrastructure into real operational outcomes.
As a Professional Services Solutions Architect, you will partner with platform and security architects to design scalable, resilient adoption of Tetrate across multi‑cluster, hybrid, and multi‑tenant environments. You will set the patterns, governance, and architectural guardrails that allow customers to expand adoption without linear delivery effort.
What you will do
Lead architecture workshops and design reviews for enterprise deployments covering control plane topology, tenancy, onboarding patterns, and organisational governance.
Define policy and security approaches for service‑to‑service and ingress/egress traffic (authentication, authorisation, identity integration, auditability).
Advise on observability integration (metrics/logs/traces) and operational readiness (SLOs, incident response, upgrade strategy) for service mesh and gateway footprints.
Create reusable reference architectures and decision frameworks that PS Solutions Engineers, TAMs, and Sales Engineers can standardise on.
Deliver architecture‑level training for customer platform/security leadership and core implementers.
Accelerate the adoption with pragmatic templates and automation (Helm/Terraform/GitOps), working with customer tooling standards and CI/CD workflows
What success looks like in the first 6 months
At least one reference architecture (or adoption blueprint) is used across multiple customers, reducing bespoke design variance.
Customers have a viable, governed path to expand the platform across teams/clusters (multi‑tenant, multi‑cluster, hybrid).
Security and identity controls are clearly defined, testable, and operationalised (e.g., policy templates, identity approach, audit posture).
Customer teams can operate core workflows independently (traffic management, policy changes, upgrades, incident response runbooks), reducing repeated PS intervention.
Required experience and skills
Deep experience designing distributed/cloud‑native architectures in regulated or large enterprise environments.
Strong knowledge of service mesh concepts and production gateway patterns (Istio/Envoy ecosystem preferred).
Ability to translate complex architecture into executive‑appropriate narratives and clear implementation guidance.
Nice to have
Workload identity and zero‑trust primitives (SPIFFE/SPIRE, policy engines, service identity patterns).
AI‑adjacent governance patterns for tool/data access (MCP awareness + OAuth-based authorisation posture).
