Our Mission Across America, thousands of economic development organizations (EDOs) representing cities, counties, and states are pushing forward America’s industrial renaissance. Every day, they engage local landowners, build community support, coordinate with utilities, negotiate incentives, and solve countless other problems behind-the-scenes to win projects, jobs, and revenue for their regions. Their efforts are critical in turning the >$1 trillion per year of industrial infrastructure demand into reality. Despite their central role in this renaissance, EDOs remain badly underserved by modern technology. At Insitu, we're fixing this by building decision-oriented software and AI capabilities to transform EDO operations. We build software, but our mission is to help EDOs win projects. We measure success not in the number of software licenses sold or in usage, but in the projects that our tools help facilitate - everything from advanced manufacturing hubs and data centers, to metal fabrication facilities and multi-family housing. The Role US-Remote with Monthly Travel We are seeking a full-stack software engineer excited to build user-facing applications for economic development teams, expand Insitu's economic development-focused data foundation, and own our cloud infrastructure. You will directly work with the founding team, which brings two decades of combined experience in economic development, energy and infrastructure investment, grid modeling, and enterprise software from Stanford University, Palantir Technologies, Goldman Sachs, and Two Sigma. No two EDOs are the same, so we are not building a single 'economic development platform' in Silicon Valley to be pushed out to EDOs across the country. Instead, we embed deeply with our partners to understand their regions' priorities and build tailored tools. We can do this with ever-increasing efficiency because we continue to invest in a common, underlying data foundation that combines >100 data sources ranging from extensive geospatial data, to land parcel data, to global company and supply chain data. In this role, you will have the opportunity to work on both customer-specific workflows and applications, as well as own parts of our common data model. We also constantly dogfood our integrated data and AI capabilities to identify potential transactions that we can directly support, which will give you the opportunity to be involved in industrial infrastructure transactions beyond what our EDO partners are pursuing. We use React on the frontend, and Postgres and Python on the backend. We extensively use LLM-based coding tools in our day-to-day. We also heavily leverage LLMs in our core pipelines and within user-facing applications. What We're Looking For The ideal candidate will be: Enthusiastic about iterating with non-technical end-users at EDOs. You'll be building for people who live and breathe economic development, not software. Able to directly engage with users and prospective customers and decompose business problems into potential technical solutions, and not be limited to building fully-specified products. Willing to travel to partners across Kentucky, California, and North Carolina. We are remote-friendly in our internal operations, but believe there is no substitute for whiteboards and desk-sides when it comes to our users. Opinionated on the stack and technical architecture without letting their idea of perfection stand in the way of delivering for our customers. Experienced in building software via an embedded/'forward-deployed' approach, or extremely hungry for this responsibility. We think 4-6 years of industry experience is ideal, but we intentionally are not prescribing X years of industry experience or academic background for this role. Excited about our mission! At its core, Insitu is about empowering thousands of organizations critical to industrial and infrastructure development that have been ignored by traditional software companies. This often requires patience with bureaucracy, traveling to places with poor connectivity, and rapid context switching. A typical day will see you working with an EDO trying to find a suitable piece of land for a new data center, an EDO wrestling with a poorly-maintained commercial real estate listings database in trying to quickly respond to an RFI from a manufacturer looking for their next factory, and an EDO preparing for an upcoming trade mission to South Korea. Common to all of these disparate-seeming workflows is the desire to bring good businesses, good jobs, and stable revenue to their regions. For us at Insitu, this North Star is a source of endless motivation and we want everyone on our team to share in it. Compensation and Benefits This is an early technical hire and the compensation (cash and equity) will be commensurate with that level of responsibility. We offer health, dental and vision for US-based employees, generous PTO, life and disability insurance, and 401(k) plans. Apply
