About the Team
OpenAI’s Central Procurement – Hardware Operations team is building scalable, AI-enabled operating foundations for a rapidly growing hardware footprint. We help the business move quickly while maintaining the data quality and controls needed to manage financial and operational risk responsibly.
As OpenAI scales across R&D, new-product introduction, manufacturing, and third-party custody models, we are building the foundations to absorb complexity without adding unnecessary friction. That means establishing practical standards, strengthening discipline where it matters, using AI thoughtfully, and continuously improving how teams manage hardware operations.
About the Role
We are hiring an Asset Compliance Program Lead to establish the cross-business framework that gives OpenAI reliable lifecycle visibility over hardware-related financial assets and capital equipment. You will define the controls, systems roadmap, and evidence practices needed to manage those assets within OpenAI’s financial-control scope.
This is a senior individual-contributor role in Central Procurement – Hardware Operations within Finance. Distinct from sourcing and transaction execution, you will partner with hardware business units, Accounting, Financial Risk Management, Procurement, contract manufacturers, and other third-party custodians to deploy practical operating mechanisms. These mechanisms will connect how assets are purchased, built, received, moved, held, verified, and retired with the ownership, data, reporting, and evidence needed for financial governance.
The role covers those assets regardless of location or custody, including manufacturing equipment and tooling, supplier- and contract-manufacturer-held assets, leased assets, and other third-party-held equipment.
You will stay close to the operational details—how assets move, where records diverge, which controls are not working, and where evidence is incomplete—and use that view to strengthen processes, accountability, and systems without compromising speed or flexibility.
In this role, you will:
Design and scale the end-to-end asset-compliance operating model across acquisition and capitalization, custody and location tracking, transfers, lifecycle events, inventory and verification, impairment or retirement, and audit-evidence retention.
Define the authoritative asset record and systems roadmap, connecting requests, contracts, purchase orders, invoices, receiving, inventory data, physical custody, transfers, and financial records.
Establish clear ownership and control points across OpenAI teams, suppliers, contract manufacturers, logistics providers, and other third-party custodians.
Build lifecycle reconciliations and a scalable verification model across multiple internal and third-party sites, using risk-based inventories, sample testing, attestations, and corrective-action tracking to identify missing records, ownership or location gaps, unrecorded transfers, unresolved exceptions, and incomplete audit evidence.
Establish an initial baseline of asset exposure and control gaps, then prioritize remediation based on financial, operational, custody, and reporting risk.
Identify recurring issues and use process, system, workflow, automation, and AI-enabled improvements to prevent repeat problems and improve the stakeholder experience.
Shape policy, standards, and governance improvements by bringing operational evidence, implementation insight, and risk findings to the appropriate decision-makers.
Define executive reporting on asset completeness, control performance, audit readiness, remediation progress, and emerging risks.
We’re looking for someone who can both operate and improve the system. This person will be hands-on in asset compliance while building the next version of how the work gets done: clearer standards, reliable data, stronger operating discipline, smarter workflows, and more AI-enabled ways of working.
You might thrive in the role if you:
Have 8+ years of experience in hardware operations, supply chain, manufacturing, asset management, procurement operations, audit, risk and controls, or a similarly control-intensive environment; including experience owning or improving end-to-end asset, custody, inventory, or third-party control processes.
Are experienced in operating in complex hardware environments, such as contract manufacturing, supplier- or third-party-held assets, manufacturing equipment or tooling, global custody, logistics, or physical inventory and verification.
Demonstrate systems fluency, including ERP platforms such as SAP or Oracle and the data flows among procurement, purchase orders, invoices, receiving, inventory, asset records, and the general ledger; experience defining or improving asset-management, workflow, reporting, or control systems.
Have experience establishing audit readiness through risk-based testing, reconciliations, evidence reviews, and remediation; able to build practical operating models from ambiguity and influence senior stakeholders and third parties without formal authority.
Bring practical judgment using AI to improve analysis, documentation, exception management, or workflow design while maintaining appropriate data protection, human review, and validation.
Enjoy turning complex, fragmented operations into practical standards, clear ownership, and scalable operating routines.
Are comfortable moving between detailed problem-solving and cross-functional influence, without relying on formal authority.
Balance a high bar for financial accuracy, audit readiness, and risk management with an enablement-focused approach that helps hardware teams move quickly.

Listed by OpenAI for a position based in the United States. Employers on this board attest they are hiring domestically.
At OpenAI, our User Safety & Risk Operations (USRO) team helps protect our products and users from abuse, fraud, safety risks, and other forms of misuse. We operate at the front line of real-world safety and risk management, translating user and operational signals into timely decisions, effective interventions, and improvements to our systems.
This role sits on a team focused on building operational capacity for new, ambiguous, and fast-moving areas of work. The team defines what needs to be built, creates the operating model to support it, and works with partner teams to make the work scalable and durable over time.
About the Role
We are seeking a Device Safety & Risk Operations Specialist to build the safety operating model for a new category of consumer hardware. This is a senior individual-contributor role for someone who can turn emerging product risks and incomplete requirements into practical workflows, controls, launch plans, and durable systems.
You will define how product-safety incidents, critical escalations, regulated cases, and privacy-sensitive issues should be identified, investigated, escalated, resolved, and learned from. You will also establish operational requirements for case management, data access, decision logging, quality assurance, monitoring, and cross-functional response. You will stand up priority workflows through launch and early operations, then help transition them into durable homes across USRO and partner teams.
The right person combines deep operational judgment with strong technical and hardware product fluency. They can move from executive-level risk framing to detailed workflow design, tabletop exercises, launch readiness, frontline guidance, and post-launch improvement.
Location / work model: San Francisco, CA; hybrid, 3 days/week in-office.
Please note: This role may involve exposure to sensitive or concerning material. Strong discretion, judgment, and resilience are essential.
In This Role, You Will:
Build the end-to-end safety and risk operating model for new consumer hardware, from early requirements through launch and early-life operations.
Develop operational playbooks for product-safety incidents, critical escalations, safety advisories, corrective actions, and other high-risk events.
Design workflows for regulated and privacy-sensitive cases, including restricted handling, evidence requirements, auditability, and partner escalation.
Translate safety and operational needs into requirements for tooling, case management, data access, monitoring, logging, and automation.
Establish clear ownership boundaries across Product, Engineering, Legal, Privacy, Product Policy, Support, Product Quality, and other operational partners.
Use operational data, customer signals, product telemetry, and case outcomes to identify patterns and improve upstream products and systems.
Determine where AI and automation can improve triage, evidence assembly, consistency, and response while preserving appropriate human judgment.
Stand up priority workflows, operate them through launch and early-life stabilization, and transition them into durable homes across USRO and partner teams.
You Might Thrive in This Role If You:
Have 8+ years of relevant experience in device safety, product safety, consumer hardware operations, technical program management, or a related field.
Have built a complex safety or risk program from an ambiguous starting point through launch and scaled operation.
Understand the realities of handling high-severity incidents, regulated workflows, sensitive customer information, and time-critical escalations.
Can translate product, engineering, legal, privacy, and policy constraints into workflows that operational teams can execute.
Are technically fluent and can reason through data flows, telemetry, access controls, audit logs, case systems, automation, and failure modes.
Use data to assess workflow health, identify emerging patterns, evaluate quality, and make risk-based decisions.
Can establish clear accountability across teams with overlapping responsibilities and different risk tolerances.
Know how to balance launch speed with safety controls, monitoring, rollback criteria, and longer-term system development.
Communicate clearly with operational, technical, legal, and executive audiences when evidence is incomplete or tradeoffs are difficult.
Are highly practical and willing to build the workflow, not only define the strategy.
Experience supporting consumer hardware, connected devices, or other products used in shared environments.
Experience with product-safety investigations, recalls, field failures, safety advisories, or hazardous-product handling.
Familiarity with warranty, repair, reverse logistics, identity recovery, fraud, or ownership disputes.
Experience building vendor training, quality-assurance, incident-response, or specialist-review programs.

About the Team
The OpenAI Audit Team is on a mission to build the future of internal audit from the ground up. Our ambition will be powered by a high-energy, technically exceptional team with the judgment, intellectual curiosity, and creativity to harness the latest advances in AI and design a truly next-generation audit function.
As AI reshapes how work is performed across the enterprise, Internal Audit will use AI, automation, and data analytics to identify and assess the most significant and emerging risks across the business, including technology, cybersecurity, finance, compliance, operations, and data.
We will build trusted partnerships at every level—from the Board of Directors and senior leadership to the teams delivering on OpenAI’s mission every day. We will operate as both an independent assurance provider and a trusted advisor, bringing an objective and pragmatic perspective to critical decisions. By engaging closely with management while preserving our independence, we will help the business innovate responsibly, move with confidence, and manage risk without creating unnecessary barriers.
About the Role
As the Finance & Operations Audit Leader, you will help shape the strategy, methodology, technology, and culture of a new audit function. You will lead complex audits, forensic and investigative reviews, and advisory work across financial reporting, accounting, finance, and business operations, while addressing related compliance risks. You will advise leaders on practical ways to strengthen governance, execution, accountability, and risk management.
You are an experienced, hands-on professional who combines deep finance and accounting knowledge with strong audit, risk, and business judgment. Your work will span across finance & accounting areas including treasury, tax, revenue, financial planning, business operations, and enterprise governance, with opportunities to apply forensic accounting techniques to complex transactions, anomalies, and potential misconduct.
You will move comfortably between executive-level governance questions and detailed examination of financial records, processes, controls, and transaction-level data. You will understand how risks intersect across functions and form clear, well-supported conclusions in fast-moving or ambiguous situations.
You will have meaningful influence over how the function develops, including how we apply AI, automation, and analytics to financial and operational risk assessment, audit planning, testing, continuous monitoring, and reporting. This is an opportunity to help build a state-of-the-art capability rather than inherit a traditional audit model.
This role is based in San Francisco, CA. We use a hybrid work model of 3 days in the office per week and offer relocation assistance to new employees.
In this role, you will:
Lead risk-based audits and advisory reviews across finance, accounting, and business operations, with related compliance risks considered as part of an integrated risk assessment.
Assess the governance and oversight of financial management and critical business operations, including major enterprise programs, third-party relationships, and operational resilience.
Evaluate financial processes and controls across financial reporting, accounting, treasury, tax, revenue, procurement, payroll, expense management, and financial planning, with a focus on accuracy, integrity, scalability, efficiency, and resilience.
Conduct or support forensic accounting and investigative reviews involving unusual transactions, fraud indicators, control circumvention, or other financial irregularities, and develop clear, evidence-based conclusions.
Evaluate operational processes and relevant compliance obligations, including risks arising from new products, markets, partnerships, organizational changes, and the use of AI in financial and operational workflows.
Use data analytics, automation, and AI to improve risk assessment, scoping, testing, continuous monitoring, and reporting, including analysis of transaction populations, anomalies, control weaknesses, and emerging risks.
Translate complex financial and operational observations into clear business implications and practical, timely advice that supports innovation, growth, accountability, and effective risk management.
Build trusted relationships across Finance, Accounting, Operations, Legal, Compliance, and other teams; support clear reporting to executive management, regulators, and the Board; and monitor relevant accounting, regulatory, and industry developments.
Coach colleagues, share finance, accounting, and audit expertise, and contribute to a culture of high standards, sound judgment, curiosity, ownership, and continuous learning.
You might thrive in this role if you have:
10-12+ years of relevant experience in internal audit, public accounting, corporate finance or accounting, forensic accounting, operational audit, or a related field.
Deep expertise in financial reporting, accounting, and internal controls, with strong knowledge of several areas such as treasury, tax, revenue, procurement, payroll, expense management, or financial planning.
Demonstrated experience leading complex financial and operational audits from risk assessment and scoping through testing, reporting, remediation, and issue validation.
Experience with forensic accounting, investigations, fraud risk, or transaction-level data analysis is highly valued.
A strong understanding of data and AI risks—including data quality, lineage, governance, access, and analytics—plus experience using automation or AI-assisted techniques in audit, finance, accounting, or control testing.
The ability to understand end-to-end business processes, analyze incomplete or conflicting financial and operational information, ask incisive questions, and reach well-supported conclusions.
The confidence to challenge constructively, communicate complex issues clearly to executives, and collaborate across Finance, Accounting, Operations, Legal, Compliance, Product, and senior management.
A relevant bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience, together with the initiative, curiosity, and adaptability to build a new capability in a fast-moving environment.
A CIA or CPA credential—or a comparable internationally recognized audit or accounting qualification—is strongly preferred.

Listed by OpenAI for a position based in the United States. Employers on this board attest they are hiring domestically.
The Intelligence and Investigations team seeks to rapidly identify and mitigate abuse and strategic risks to ensure a safe online ecosystem. We are dedicated to identifying emerging abuse trends, analyzing risks, and working with our internal and external partners to implement effective mitigation strategies to protect against misuse. Our efforts contribute to OpenAI's overarching goal of developing AI that benefits humanity.
The Strategic Intelligence & Analysis (SIA) team provides safety intelligence for OpenAI’s products by monitoring, analyzing, and forecasting real-world abuse, geopolitical risks, and strategic threats. Our work informs safety mitigations, product decisions, and partnerships, ensuring OpenAI’s tools are deployed securely and responsibly across critical sectors.
About the Role
As an Agentic Risk Analyst, you will shape OpenAI’s operating picture for current agentic risk across products and platforms. You will bring a strategic, system-level perspective to current risks, connecting individual incidents, technical findings, abuse patterns, and external developments to relevant workstreams, mitigations, owners, dependencies, and residual gaps. You will analyze how risks emerge through autonomy, multi-step task execution, tool use, memory, retrieval, connectors, computer-use capabilities, and multi-agent workflows, with a particular focus on both adversarial misuse and unintended system behavior. By synthesizing signals from investigations, evaluations, red teaming, security reviews, product launches, external research, and real-world incidents, you will maintain a current view of material risks and evolving threat patterns. Your work will help turn complex and often ambiguous signals into coordinated decisions and measurable follow-through across product, safety, security, policy, and governance teams.
You will work closely with investigators, engineers, product, policy, safety, and security teams, and measurement and forecasting experts who lead longer-horizon risk discovery and scenario work to maintain a shared operating picture of current risks, mitigation priorities, owners, and dependencies. This is an opportunity to help shape how OpenAI coordinates decisions and follow-through across the evolving risk landscape of increasingly capable agentic systems, ensuring that safety decisions keep pace with rapidly advancing technology.
In this role, you will:
Build and maintain a current, company-wide portfolio of material agentic risks across OpenAI’s products, platforms, and emerging capabilities, mapping each risk to relevant workstreams, owners, mitigations, dependencies, decisions, and residual gaps.
Run a cross-functional intake and review cadence for signals from across OpenAI and the broader ecosystem to identify emerging risks, evolving threat patterns, and important shifts in the agentic risk landscape, routing findings to the right owners and decision-makers
Connect individual incidents, technical findings, evaluations, and weak signals to broader system-level trends, producing clear assessments of impact, severity, evidence, uncertainty, priority, and recommended action.
Assess how emerging capabilities, product changes, ecosystem developments, and adversary adaptation may affect current risk priorities and launch readiness, surfacing risks that are unowned, stalled, or under-mitigated for decision and escalation, and tracking residual risk after launch.
In partnership with colleagues who lead horizon scanning, use relevant external developments across AI safety and security research, public incidents, adversarial activity, industry standards, emerging technologies, and competitor products, as inputs to current risk prioritization and mitigation decisions at OpenAI.
Apply and refine practical frameworks and taxonomies for current agentic failure modes, control gaps, abuse patterns, and potential downstream harms across products, deployment environments, and user workflows, integrating them into the broader risk program.
Produce concise, decision-ready assessments that communicate key findings, assumptions, confidence levels, competing hypotheses, and prioritized recommendations for product, safety, security, policy, and leadership stakeholders, with accountable owners and next review points.
Define and track operating metrics for the agentic-risk program, including coverage, ownership, decision latency, mitigation status, and closure and partner with measurement experts on risk indicators and monitoring capabilities.
Partner with colleagues who lead evaluations, scenario analyses, tabletop exercises, red-team campaigns, and investigations focused on agentic systems, using their findings to drive actionable mitigations, accountable ownership, and measurable follow-through.
You might thrive in this role if you
Have significant experience—typically 7+ years—in trust and safety, integrity, security, cyber threat intelligence, AI safety, product risk, strategic intelligence, abuse investigations, or a related field.
Have a strong understanding of modern AI systems and agentic architectures, including hands-on experience using, evaluating, or building agentic systems. You are familiar with AI safety concepts, agentic failure modes, and misalignment risks, and can reason about how agent objectives, incentives, environments, and system design choices may produce unintended or harmful outcomes.
Have demonstrated experience analyzing how harmful outcomes emerge from interactions between users, products, and technical systems, and can assess how increasingly capable agentic systems may amplify, automate, or transform existing abuse vectors such as fraud, scams, social engineering, coordinated influence operations, cyber abuse, or other forms of platform misuse. You have also helped operate a cross-functional risk, safety, security, or integrity program, clarifying ownership, resolving dependencies, escalating gaps, and driving follow-through without direct authority.
Have exceptional analytical judgment and experience producing assessments under uncertainty. You can identify weak signals, develop and test hypotheses, distinguish signal from noise, communicate assumptions and confidence levels clearly, and update your conclusions as new evidence becomes available.
Possess strong technical fluency and are comfortable engaging deeply with engineers, researchers, and security practitioners. You do not need to be an engineer, but you should be able to translate technical findings into clear risk assessments.
Are comfortable synthesizing data and evidence from multiple sources to manage a current risk portfolio, including investigations, telemetry, evaluations, experiments, dashboards, and external research. Experience using SQL, Python, and analytical tools is a plus.
Have experience applying risk frameworks, threat models, severity assessments, taxonomies, or prioritization frameworks to structure current operational ambiguity and support decision-making.
Communicate complex topics clearly and effectively, producing concise, executive-ready analysis and influencing stakeholders across technical and non-technical teams.
Thrive in fast-moving environments, balancing rigor with pragmatism while building lightweight operating processes and tools that improve organizational coordination and follow-through on material risks.
