Primer is a growing network of K–8 schools restoring the timeless foundations of American education. Inspired by the original teaching primers that shaped a nation of readers, thinkers, and builders, our schools begin with what has always worked, and build for what lies ahead. Close-knit learning environments. Skilled educators. A culture that takes kids seriously as learners and leaders.
Primers shaped the first 200 years of American children. Primer will ready them for the next.
About the role
We’re hiring a Market Manager in Alabama: a high impact role that serves as Primer's leader within a market and reports to the Alabama General Manager. You'll be accountable for the growth and educational operations of Primer in Alabama.
We're looking for an executor with an education leadership background who is comfortable operating in high opacity environments and keeping multiple balls in the air. You'll be launching new Primers, supporting existing Primers, driving enrollment growth, and generally ensuring that we’re meeting the Primer standard for students and families across Alabama. And finally, because this role is brand new, you'll have an opportunity to help design the role, build playbooks, and influence what success looks like for future hires.
You might spend your morning working with the real estate team to evaluate a new location, your mid-day modeling active monitoring for new Primer Leaders and providing live feedback, your afternoon re-designing the pickup/drop-off plan for an existing campus, and your early evening hosting an Open House at a new campus.
As our footprint in Alabama grows, this role will continue to evolve and you will evolve with it. What we're trying to do is extremely hard – there's a reason it hasn't been done before. There's a good chance this role will be the hardest work of your life. If you find that slightly-daunting-but-exciting, this might be the role for you.
Responsibilities
Ensure Primers across Alabama are meeting the Primer standard across all dimensions, from the academic program to campus operations.
Partner with real estate, education, operations, marketing, and admissions teams to ensure the success of every Primer within a region of Alabama.
Drive student growth by testing new local strategies. When they work, you'll help playbook the ideas so they can be leveraged in every city.
Own many of Primer's local relationships, including families and leaders in the education community.
What We're Looking For
Must have experience in education leadership, ideally within a physical school environment as a Superintendent, Assistant Superintendent, or Principal.
You're a builder and self-starter. You don't need to be told what to do. You have experience navigating ambiguity and creating scalable systems out of chaos.
You can execute at a fast pace while holding a high bar for quality. This may sound a bit cliche, but it's incredibly important.
Past accountability to aggressive growth, revenue, margin, and expansion targets.
Proven ability to build strong relationships both internally and externally.
A generalist willing to roll up their sleeves and get stuff done – both in the weeds and at the strategic level.
Experience disrupting the status quo - either with new school models, new policies, or something else that removes constraints and drives innovation.
Why this role may not be a fit
You do your best work in structured environments. There is no established playbook here — for the role or the company. You'll be writing it while strategy shifts and priorities evolve around you. If that sounds exhausting rather than energizing, this isn't the right fit right now.
You prefer to specialize. This role demands genuine comfort toggling between strategic decisions and operational detail — sometimes in the same hour. If you'd rather go deep on one function, this won't feel like a fit.
You prefer a fully remote, hands off environment. Primer is a consumer-facing education business. Evenings, weekends, and nontraditional hours — Travel and attendance to open houses, school events, parent meetings — are part of the rhythm, not the exception.
Primer is a mission-first company. We believe our mission is the highest-leverage way we can create positive change. In service of that, we keep work centered on mission execution and avoid social or political activism at work that’s unrelated to the mission. If that energizes you, we’d love to see you apply.
Listed by Primer for a position based in the United States. Employers on this board attest they are hiring domestically.

Close-knit learning environments. Skilled educators. A culture that takes kids seriously as learners and leaders.

ABOUT THE ROLE
As an Admissions Representative, you'll be the human face of Primer for prospective families — the person who meets them where they are, earns their trust, and helps them understand why Primer is different.
We're building education for every family in America, not just the ones who find us easily. That means showing up in person, adapting to family schedules, and doing the relationship-building work that makes enrollment feel personal rather than transactional. You'll report to the Head of Admissions while working closely with the local GM to support campus growth from day one.
This role isn't about pushing a product. It's about helping families make one of the most important decisions they'll make for their kids — with honesty, care, and genuine follow-through.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Conduct in-person parent meetings with prospective families, meeting them at times and locations that work for them.
- Host campus tours and open houses in collaboration with campus staff, so educators can stay focused on students instead of spending extra hours on admissions-driven activities.
- Represent Primer at community events, building authentic local presence and trust.
- Maintain rigorous scheduling, communication, and follow-up in Salesforce/Groove — full alignment with central admissions processes is non-negotiable.
- Serve as a local ambassador for Primer, helping every family feel genuinely welcomed and informed as they explore enrollment.
- Surface patterns from family conversations back to the central admissions team — if you're hearing the same objections or questions repeatedly, that's signal worth sharing.
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
- Sales, admissions, or customer-facing experience — ideally in an educational setting — with a track record of building relationships and hitting goals.
- Comfort with CRM and sales engagement platforms (Salesforce/Groove experience a plus).
- Strong communication and presentation skills; you can read the room and adjust for a first-generation family as easily as you can for a well-resourced one.
- Genuine ease with in-person relationship-building — you're energized by community, not drained by it.
- The discipline to work autonomously on the ground while staying tightly aligned with centralized leadership and process.
- Flexibility to work some evenings and weekends to meet families where their lives are.
- A collaborative instinct — you work well across functions and know when to loop in the GM, when to loop in admissions, and when to just handle it.
- Deep alignment with Primer's mission: accessible, affordable, excellent education for every family in America.
WHY THIS ROLE MAY NOT BE A FIT
- You're most comfortable when leads come to you — this role requires active outreach and community presence.
- You prefer to work within a large, stable team structure rather than operate as a local point of contact with distributed support.
- You find it difficult to hold the line on process (Salesforce hygiene, follow-up cadences) when things get busy.
- You believe great admissions is primarily a marketing or brand problem; we think it's a relationship and trust problem.
- You'd struggle representing a model that's still evolving — Primer is building something new, and you need to be honest with families about that.

DON’T SEE THE RIGHT ROLE FOR YOU?
We’re always looking to meet exceptional people. Primer is an end-to-end engineering organization building the operating system for real schools. Our work spans several technical disciplines. A non-exhaustive sample:
- Distributed Systems & Data Infrastructure
High-throughput GraphQL services, low-latency event pipelines, schema design for real-time classroom operations, transactional integrity across multi-tenant school networks.
- Client Systems & Interaction Engineering
Complex TypeScript/React architectures, high-frequency UI state updates, deterministic rendering under poor network conditions, resilient offline behavior, design-system engineering for high-context educational workflows.
- Networking, Infrastructure & Reliability
Dockerized k8s service graph, CI/CD pipelines that ship daily into dozens of live campuses, observability at scale, automated failover, network shaping for unreliable school WiFi, performance engineering across heterogeneous hardware.
- Realtime Media & Classroom Presence
WebRTC transports, adaptive bitrate + packet recovery strategies, custom SFU optimizations for classrooms, audio/video error correction, telemetry-driven session stability, and real-time presence models for synchronous instruction.
- Learning Systems, Data Science & ML
End-to-end ETL, feature engineering from student behavior signals, reading/math proficiency modeling, personalization engines, automated teacher/parent narrative generation, and continuous feedback loops driven by real learner data.
We’re moving extremely fast and the surface area keeps growing.
If you think you can push the boundaries of what software can do for real schools, please apply below. Our team will reach out when there's a role that makes sense for you.
