ABOUT PRIMER
Primer is a growing network of K–8 schools restoring the timeless foundations of American education. Inspired by the original teaching primers that shaped a nation of readers, thinkers, and builders, our schools begin with what has always worked, and build for what lies ahead. Close-knit learning environments. Skilled educators. A culture that takes kids seriously as learners and leaders.
Primers shaped the first 200 years of American children. Primer will ready them for the next.
ABOUT THE ROLE
You'll own the growth and operations of our work with two nascent programs — the Federal Scholarship Tax Credit Program and the Alabama School Choice Tax Credit. — that unlock access to Primer for thousands of working-class families.
One of our operating principles is 'Access is the constraint'. There are plenty of good schools in the US — there are very few that are truly accessible to the hard-working American families that are increasingly being left behind. These new tax credit programs present a tremendous opportunity to finally change that. The Federal program launches January 2027 and Alabama is live now — which means everything you test in Alabama this year becomes the playbook for Federal in January (and other state programs as we expand).
Your goal is simple: grow these programs as quickly as possible through every available channel — paid acquisition, local marketing, business developments (and many more ideas we haven't thought of yet). You'll own Primer's relationship with both national and state tax-credit Scholarship Granting Organizations (SGOs) end to end: negotiating final terms, setting state-by-state funding amounts and timelines, and acting as the bridge between their teams and Primer's internal teams (Bursar, Foundation). In Alabama, you'll drive corporate donors to state SGO partners — including outreach to corporate prospects who can utilize significant state income tax credits ($1m+) — and build individual donor growth through paid acquisition and Primer's network.
This will likely be the hardest work of your life. You will work across many states, partner closely with Primer's policy, legal, and marketing teams, and encounter many unknowns. But if you succeed, you will have built an engine that unlocks a trajectory-changing education for the next generation.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Federal Tax Credit Programs
- Own Primer's Federal SGO relationships: negotiate final terms, set by-state funding amounts, establish timelines, and grow the relationship over time.
- Liaise between SGO teams and Primer's internal teams (Bursar, Foundation, Legal, Finance).
- Launch and run Primer's in-house SGO growth engine: paid acquisition, landing pages, and creative.
Alabama Tax Credit Programs
- Run outreach to corporate prospects capable of utilizing $1M+/yr in state income tax credits, sourcing through Primer's Alabama network.
- Build individual donor growth through paid acquisition and Primer's network.
- Own growth end-to-end, including annual targets, creatives, and contractors.
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
- A true, seasoned generalist who executes across operations, marketing, and external-facing work. You move fluidly between negotiating with a partner, drafting creative concepts for a paid campaign, and analyzing retention cohorts.
- You've owned a number before. You've been measured on dollars generated, deals closed, or revenue grown — and you can walk us through exactly how you did it.
- Comfort negotiating with external partners.
- Experience running or directing paid acquisition — you don't need to run the ads yourself, but you need to know what a well-performing paid acquisition channel looks like..
- Steep slope. This workstream could 10x in 24 months. We're hiring for where you'll be in year four, not just day one.
- You feel the mission. These programs unlock education options for the millions of kids being left behind. If that doesn't move you, the grind won't be worth it.
WHY THIS ROLE MAY NOT BE A FIT
- You're a specialist. If you're world-class at performance marketing but uncomfortable on a call with a corporate partner — or vice versa.
- You need a playbook. The Federal program doesn't exist yet. You're writing it.
- You want to manage a team on day one. You'll start as a team of one with contractors.
- You're uncomfortable being judged on a number. Your success metric is dollars generated.

In service of that, we keep work centered on mission execution and avoid social or political activism at work that’s unrelated to the mission. If that energizes you, we’d love to see you apply.

ABOUT THE ROLE
Every new Primer campus starts as an empty building in a city where we've never operated. Someone has to turn it into a school fast: pass code, fit the budget, and feel like Primer the moment a kid walks in. That's you. This isn't a support role bolted onto real estate. The pace we open campuses at depends on how fast and how well you can run this process, and the standards you set here get reused at every campus after it.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
- Site feasibility and pre-construction
- Before Primer signs a lease, you've already run the numbers. You'll lead code analysis and zoning review, coordinate traffic and parking studies, run test fits and space programming, and make the go/no-go call on new sites. You'll also build the diligence playbook, so the next site evaluation takes days, not weeks.
- Permitting and project management
- You'll manage permitting across jurisdictions: building permits, fire life safety, ADA, zoning variances, change of use. You'll run the civil engineers, FLS specialists, and local architects of record on each project, and you'll know the code officials and inspectors in each city well enough that they pick up when you call. You'll juggle several projects at different stages without dropping a deadline.
- FF&E and product specification
- You'll research and spec the furniture, equipment, and branded materials that go into every Primer campus. You'll build a vendor list and product catalog other teams can order from. And you'll find the value engineering wins that save money without cutting corners on the student experience.
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
- 5+ years in architectural project management, interior design, or something close, with real ownership from design through construction
- Experience building design standards or prototypes for multi-location rollout (a big plus)
- Background in schools, retail, or hospitality, anywhere physical space matters to the people using it
- Deep knowledge of building codes, ADA, fire life safety, zoning, and permitting across multiple jurisdictions
- Fluency in 3D Modeling Software, Adobe Creative Cloud, Adobe InDesign, Autodesk Revit, Bluebeam, or equivalent, plus comfort with project management tools (Asana)
- You'll be producing the standards and playbooks other people build from
- The ability to run multiple projects and vendors at once without losing a thread
WHY THIS ROLE MAY NOT BE A FIT
- You want to design one beautiful building and live in it for a year. This role moves fast across many sites at once, and nothing sits still long enough for that kind of depth.
- You'd rather hand off permitting and consultant management to someone else. Here, you're the one chasing the inspector and keeping the civil engineer on schedule.
- You need a finished playbook to work from. Part of the job is building that playbook as you go, so some of it will be genuinely undefined when you start.

In service of that, we keep work centered on mission execution and avoid social or political activism at work that’s unrelated to the mission. If that energizes you, we’d love to see you apply.

About the role
Primer is opening new campuses across the country, and every one of them is a construction project. Somebody has to be on those sites: walking the slab, chasing down answers, catching the problem before it costs more time. That's you.
You're the field point of contact for everyone who touches our projects. General contractors, subs, trade partners, vendors, handymen, inspectors. When they have a question, they call you. When HQ needs to know what's actually happening on site, they call you too.
What you'll own
Submittals, Requests for Information (RFIs), and schedules across all active projects. Your job is to keep things moving and keep HQ informed, in that order.
Field documentation. Matterport scans, drone footage, progress photos and video, captured consistently so nobody has to guess what a site looks like.
Warranty work. When something breaks after we open, you make sure it's logged, assigned, and fixed. You're the thread between construction, facilities, and compliance.
Site walks at every stage: pre-acquisition, pre-construction, active construction, and compliance. You turn what you see into updates the real estate team can act on.
What you'll need
A degree in construction management, civil engineering, or architecture, or the hands-on experience that beats one.
Comfort with heavy travel. Figure70% of your time on the road, managing your own priorities across multiple live sites.
The ability to translate field conditions into plain, actionable updates for a remote HQ team. You'll do this daily.
Fluency in standard construction documentation: submittals, RFIs, schedules, close-out.
Experience with Matterport and jobsite photo workflows, or the willingness to learn them fast.
FAA Part 107 drone certification, or you'll get it within 90 days of hire.
Low ego. You'll be building trust with everyone from a GC's project manager to a handyman working a punch list.
This probably isn't for you if
You want to be home every night. This job lives on the road.

ABOUT PRIMER

Inspired by the original teaching primers that shaped a nation of readers, thinkers, and builders, our schools begin with what has always worked, and build for what lies ahead. Close-knit learning environments. Skilled educators. A culture that takes kids seriously as learners and leaders.
Primers shaped the first 200 years of American children. Primer will ready them for the next.
ABOUT THE ROLE
Primer has all the makings of an iconic brand: a big vision to solve one of the hardest problems in America, real stories of lives we’ve changed across the country, and strong cultural tailwinds pushing us forward. We hear from parents, educators, legislators, and community leaders every day about the lives we’re changing — from families who felt stuck in the traditional system and now see their child thriving at Primer, to parents who “feel like they have their child back” after a few months at Primer.
Your job is to harness this momentum and craft a brand that millions of families from all walks of life trust with the most important decision they make each year: their child’s school.
You will own the entire surface area of Primer’s brand — from our big-picture narrative to individual brand assets across visual design, photography, film content, and copy. You’ll inherit our existing brand systems, which you see today across Primer.com http://Primer.com, and be tasked with growing this foundation into the future of Primer’s brand.
There are three unique challenges in this role:
- First, our brand must be both aspirational and accessible. Most education brands opt for pure exclusivity or pure accessibility, but that won’t work for Primer.
- Second, we are a central marketing & brand org with dozens (and soon hundreds) of local Primers. These campuses are the primary way families experience the Primer brand post-enrollment, and nailing the local manifestation of our brand will require systems that scale down to (and empower) those working at the campus level.
- Finally, you’ll need to develop (or have) a nuanced intuition for how Primer should fit into the overall education ecosystem. Education is tough, riddled with many strong opinions, which presents both a challenge and an opportunity. If you shape our public perception with conviction — and succeed — you will have crafted one of the all-time great American brands.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Define what Primer stands for. Own our narrative — where we fit in the broader education ecosystem, how we show up, what we're for and what we're against.
- Craft our brand norms. These are the standards that define our voice, language, and visual identity. The kind of thing a campus team or a writer can actually pick up and use, not a deck that sits in a drive.
- Build the local engine. We have hundreds (and soon thousands) of local educators who are the face of Primer to our families. Creating a consistent brand experience is a unique challenge, and you will own it end-to-end.
- Consistency without bottlenecks. Build the operating system that dials in every public-facing artifact we ship. Fight the approval-chain-by-vibes with clear standards and lightweight checks against them.
- Partner with Growth, Admissions, and Product to establish the messaging, identity, and creative standards used across marketing, admissions, and the product experience, enabling each team to execute within those standards.
- Lay the groundwork for employer brand and PR, so our story lands with parents, future staff, and the public alike.
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
- A strong operator who loves building systems. You're clear-eyed about the complexity of a central brand function with dozens of local spokes.
- Someone who's done a lot with a little. You've held a high bar in a resource-constrained environment.
- A brand leader who’s done it before — you’ve built brands that feel both aspirational and accessible, and understand what it takes to connect with everyday American families.
- A clear writer and editor with real taste. You can set the voice and language standards and enforce them.
- Someone who'll hold the line and be easy to work with at the same time. You can say no when something's off and make people glad they asked.
- Genuine. We take families, students, and the teachers who serve them seriously. You'll make sure the brand does too, in every community we're in.
WHY THIS ROLE MAY NOT BE A FIT
- You want a pure-play exec role. This may grow into that. Today it's a hands-on role building the brand backbone, not running a scaled marketing org.
- You want to own the funnel. Growth is responsible for acquisition, conversion, and enrollment performance. Brand defines the narrative, messaging, and creative standards.
- You think great brand means routing everything through you. If your model is "approve it all myself," you'll be the bottleneck this role exists to remove.

ABOUT THE ROLE
This is a financial analysis and business partnership role at its core. You'll drive financial analysis for a national private school network that runs on PrimerOS, our learning and operations management platform. Reporting to our Head of Finance, you'll be the strategic business partner to functional leaders—helping them weigh tradeoffs, assess performance, and put our financial strategy into action.
WHAT YOU’D OWN
- Site-level performance: partner with our state General Manager teams to own site-level forecasts, enabling the company to make decisions grounded in our financial realities and strategic priorities
- Real Estate: partner with the Real Estate team to drive the completeness and accuracy of our pro-forma modeling, returns forecasting, and project-level budget-vs-actual analyses.
- Business partnership: partner with cross-functional teams on a variety of operational decisions by providing guidance, analysis, and historical financial data to inform their decisions. You might be forecasting headcount one moment and budgeting paid marketing spend the next.
- Financial operations: partner with our Controller to ensure forward-looking views tie cleanly to actuals from our accounting system.
- Reporting: support our Monthly Business Review process and own the delivery of management financial reporting, both programmatic and ad hoc; support the Head of Finance with Board / investor matters from time to time.
WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR
- 10+ years of progressive experience in corporate finance, include experience with financial modeling and reporting; experience in finance business partnership is a plus.
- This role spans real estate, capital planning, business partnership, and corporate finance - you should spike (have prior experience) in at least one area and be excited to become an expert at the rest.
- AI-forward: it’s been months since you built a model without using Claude, Codex, or the like. You’re oriented towards building from scratch only once.
- Resilient: we are a startup building in a complex problem space. You’ll need a builder mindset, bias towards enablement, and willingness to learn new things.
- You bring a diplomatic and trustworthy presence to the rooms you’re in; you are able to adapt your style for differing considerations and levels of financial sophistication.
- Financial acumen: you’ll be expected to provide clarity on decisions large and small, and to do so you’ll need to rely on the right mix of rigorous analysis and financial intuition.
NICE TO HAVES
- Time spent in businesses with a real estate footprint (education, QSR, fitness, dentistry, etc.)
- Familiarity with some of: NetSuite, Ramp, Salesforce, Hex
WHY THIS ROLE MAY NOT BE A FIT
- You enjoy FP&A maintenance roles with limited responsibilities beyond traditional reporting calendars.
- You are unfamiliar with the scope of finance roles at startups or on lean finance teams.
- You don’t enjoy the work of business building - this isn’t the role for someone looking to build presentations and round to the nearest million.
- This is not an accounting role and you will not be expected to post journal entries or reconcile bank statements; however you should possess a working familiarity of foundational accounting principals.

ABOUT THE ROLE
You’ll own the end-to-end design for the experiences that make Primer schools great. That includes web and mobile products for families, students, educators, and internal teams, as well as the physical campuses themselves. From the app parents use every day, to the signage they see when they walk into a school, you’ll help us define it all.
Most edtech companies stop at software. We run the schools, source the real estate, hire the teachers, and build the spaces where learning happens. The same person who designs the digital onboarding flow also has a point of view on how the classroom flows.
You’ll join a small, high-ownership design team that works close to students, families, educators, and operators. We value clear thinking, honest feedback, strong craft, and a bias toward action.
You’ll work closely with product, engineering, and school operators to solve problems that have never been solved before. The goal is to build simple, intuitive, and joyful experiences for all our users and scale our products for our next phase of growth.
What you’ll do:
- Lead design projects from initial concept through high-fidelity design and launch.
- Run user research with students, families, and teachers, and turn what you learn into interfaces, systems, and environments.
- Move fluidly between visual design, interaction design, and systems thinking depending on what the product needs.
- Refine copy, tone, and visual detail so every screen feels cohesive and intentional.
- Contribute to and help shape the Mondrian design system.
- Design beyond the screen: campus signage, interior spaces and marketing assets
- Help set Primer's design standards and raise the ceiling of the team as it grows.
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
- 5+ years of experience as Product Designer
- An exceptionally polished portfolio
- A track record of owning projects end-to-end, from concept through launch.
- A strong sense of language and consistency
- Comfort balancing insight with intuition. You can commit to a direction without waiting for formal research to hand you the answer.
- Strength bringing clarity to big, ambiguous problem spaces
- Comfortable presenting to executives, board members, investors and non-tech stakeholders
- Experience using AI tools to prototype and convey designs is a plus
- High EQ. You work well with people who aren't designers, take feedback in a room full of them, and can read what students, families, and teachers actually need.
- Genuine excitement about Primer's mission
- This is a full-time, in-person role based in San Francisco, as we believe our best work happens when we’re together.
Something Extra: We value diverse backgrounds — whether in education, healthcare, logistics, marketplaces, compliance, field operations, or something entirely different. Anything that taught you how complex human systems really work.

ROLE OVERVIEW
We're looking for a Product Manager to help build the software, AI, and data layer that powers how Primer operates.
As Primer grows, our biggest challenge is operating many more excellent schools without scaling people and bureaucracy alongside them. That efficiency is what keeps Primer affordable for every family. This role is about turning the messy, magical reality of schools into systems that make Primer more consistent, more scalable, and more human. Every minute we give back to a teacher is a minute spent with kids.
This role is based in our San Francisco office, working closely with product, engineering, operations, and academic teams — and spending time inside our schools with teachers, understanding how they actually work.
You’ll join a small, high-ownership team that works close to students, families, educators, and operators. We value clear thinking, honest feedback, strong craft, and a bias toward action.
You’ll work closely with design, engineering, and school operators to solve problems that have never been solved before. The goal is to build simple, intuitive, and joyful experiences for all our users and scale our products for our next phase of growth.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
Primer faces some of the hardest (and most exciting!) problems in education. You'll take the daily reality of running schools and turn it into simple, useful products. That might mean building systems that help teams understand campus health, surface issues before they escalate, reduce administrative work for educators, or help operators make better decisions across a growing network.
You'll own projects from early discovery through launch — spending time with campus leaders, market teams, educators, and central operators to understand where work breaks down, then partnering with engineering to build those tools. Expect to run time studies on campus and obsess over the 30 seconds tech can hand back to a teacher.
Your job is to answer questions like:
- How do we operate 10x more schools with only 2x the operational headcount?
- How do we know when a campus needs support before it becomes obvious?
- How can AI reduce repetitive work while strengthening human judgment?
- How do we make school operations feel lighter, clearer, and more consistent for the people doing the work?
As one of the early product leaders at Primer, you'll help set the standards for how we build products, how we use AI, and how software changes the way our schools operate.
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
- 5+ years of product management experience.
- Experience building products for complex, physical workflows
- Strong product taste.
- Comfort working in messy, real-world environments. You like sitting with operators, watching how work actually happens, and finding the hidden bottlenecks.
- Analytical enough to reason from data, practical enough to know when the truth is in the field.
- Ability to own projects end to end — from problem discovery and strategy to specs, launch, adoption, and iteration.
- Clear writing and structured thinking.
- Excited to work on-site in San Francisco.
Something Extra: We value diverse backgrounds — whether in education, healthcare, logistics, marketplaces, compliance, field operations, or something entirely different. Anything that taught you how complex human systems really work.

About the role
We’re hiring a Market Manager in Alabama: a high impact role that serves as Primer's leader within a market and reports to the Alabama General Manager. You'll be accountable for the growth and educational operations of Primer in Alabama.
We're looking for an executor with an education leadership background who is comfortable operating in high opacity environments and keeping multiple balls in the air. You'll be launching new Primers, supporting existing Primers, driving enrollment growth, and generally ensuring that we’re meeting the Primer standard for students and families across Alabama. And finally, because this role is brand new, you'll have an opportunity to help design the role, build playbooks, and influence what success looks like for future hires.
You might spend your morning working with the real estate team to evaluate a new location, your mid-day modeling active monitoring for new Primer Leaders and providing live feedback, your afternoon re-designing the pickup/drop-off plan for an existing campus, and your early evening hosting an Open House at a new campus.
As our footprint in Alabama grows, this role will continue to evolve and you will evolve with it. What we're trying to do is extremely hard – there's a reason it hasn't been done before. There's a good chance this role will be the hardest work of your life. If you find that slightly-daunting-but-exciting, this might be the role for you.
Responsibilities
Ensure Primers across Alabama are meeting the Primer standard across all dimensions, from the academic program to campus operations.
Partner with real estate, education, operations, marketing, and admissions teams to ensure the success of every Primer within a region of Alabama.
Drive student growth by testing new local strategies. When they work, you'll help playbook the ideas so they can be leveraged in every city.
Own many of Primer's local relationships, including families and leaders in the education community.
What We're Looking For
Must have experience in education leadership, ideally within a physical school environment as a Superintendent, Assistant Superintendent, or Principal.
You're a builder and self-starter. You don't need to be told what to do. You have experience navigating ambiguity and creating scalable systems out of chaos.
You can execute at a fast pace while holding a high bar for quality. This may sound a bit cliche, but it's incredibly important.
Past accountability to aggressive growth, revenue, margin, and expansion targets.
Proven ability to build strong relationships both internally and externally.
A generalist willing to roll up their sleeves and get stuff done – both in the weeds and at the strategic level.

Why this role may not be a fit
You do your best work in structured environments. There is no established playbook here — for the role or the company. You'll be writing it while strategy shifts and priorities evolve around you. If that sounds exhausting rather than energizing, this isn't the right fit right now.
You prefer to specialize. This role demands genuine comfort toggling between strategic decisions and operational detail — sometimes in the same hour. If you'd rather go deep on one function, this won't feel like a fit.
You prefer a fully remote, hands off environment. Primer is a consumer-facing education business. Evenings, weekends, and nontraditional hours — Travel and attendance to open houses, school events, parent meetings — are part of the rhythm, not the exception.
Primer is a mission-first company. We believe our mission is the highest-leverage way we can create positive change. In service of that, we keep work centered on mission execution and avoid social or political activism at work that’s unrelated to the mission. If that energizes you, we’d love to see you apply.

Primer Leaders are the heartbeat of a Primer campus. You take kids seriously, build deep relationships with families, and create a stable, joyful, consistent learning environment.
This is not a traditional classroom job. It blends instructional leadership, operations management, family partnership, and culture creation. You teach literacy, math, execute Pursuits that are a cross of science and social studies, and manage the daily rhythm of your cohort.
This work requires ownership, judgment, follow-through, and comfortability making decisions on your own. You are the quarterback of your classroom and a core member of the campus team.
