Job Description
Staff Platform Engineer (Infrastructure)
We are seeking an experienced Staff Platform Engineer to help build and operate Acorn, Postscript's next-generation CDP and messaging platform: ~52 Rust/Python services on EKS, built to run at 500K+ events/sec for 20K+ merchants.
What makes this role different: the platform is agent-operated. Deploys, migrations, drift reconciliation, and infra standup are automated and encoded as self-verifying runbooks that AI agents execute. We are not hiring someone to run those procedures by hand. We are hiring the person who designs the system, writes the guardrails that let agents execute it safely, and owns the failures no runbook covers yet.
Primary duties
System & Platform Design: Own infra topology, scaling and blast-radius boundaries, the build/deploy graph, database ownership boundaries, and cost ceilings — the decisions agents execute but can't make.
Guardrail Engineering: Build the validation gates, idempotency checks, drift detectors, and runbooks that keep both humans and agents from doing damage. Your deliverable is the safety system, not the deploy.
Escalation Tier: Diagnose the novel failures — consumer lag, DLQs, materialized-view chains, consent ordering. Write the runbook the first time; agents handle it after.
Reliability, Capacity & Cost: Own the 500K events/sec target: load testing, Karpenter/HPA tuning, Database sizing, SLOs and alerting.
Security & Secrets Boundary: Own IAM/IRSA, secret rotation, the auth chain, and what the agent/MCP surface is allowed to do.
Agent-Fleet Operability: Keep skills, runbooks, and agent context in sync with reality. A stale runbook is a wrong actor, executed confidently.
Incident Leadership: Lead incidents and capture every fix as a new runbook plus regression test.
What We’ll Love About You
Experience: 5+ years operating production Kubernetes and cloud infrastructure (AWS) at scale.
IaC Discipline: Strong Terraform and GitOps/Kustomize practice, with a bias for making operations idempotent, automated, and self-verifying.
Incident Judgment: Real incident-response experience on distributed-systems failures — databases, streaming, consumer lag, data integrity.
Data Systems Fluency: You know how Postgres, a columnar store, and a log/streaming bus behave under load.
Agent Fluency: Comfort working alongside AI agents — writing the guardrails, runbooks, and checks that let automation operate safely, and knowing where a human must stay in the loop.
Instincts: You reach for "encode this as a check" before "I'll remember to do this." You'd rather delete a manual step than document it. You treat a wrong runbook as a production bug.
What You’ll Love About Us
Salary range of USD $190,000 to $230,000 base plus significant equity (we do not have geo based salaries)
High growth startup - plenty of room for you to directly impact the company and grow your career!
Work from home (or wherever)
Fun - We’re passionate and enjoy what we do
Competitive compensation and opportunity for equity
Flexible paid time off

Completing this form is voluntary, and we hope that you will choose to do so. Your answer is confidential. No one who makes hiring decisions will see it. Your decision to complete the form and your answer will not harm you in any way. If you want to learn more about the law or this form, visit the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) website at www.dol.gov/ofccp.

Postscript is the AI messaging platform trusted by 20,000+ Shopify brands — including Brooklinen, Ruggable, True Classic, and Dr. Squatch.
With a mission to make SMS your number one revenue driving channel, we built the best-in-class SMS marketing platform and launched revenue-driving AI features not available on any other platform. And we're just getting started.
Backed by Greylock and Y Combinator, fully remote since 2018.
As a Senior Software Engineer at Postscript, you'll be a high-ownership contributor to one of our core product or platform teams — owning meaningful systems end-to-end, driving technical quality, and helping shape how we build across the organization. Our engineering teams operate at the intersection of scale and product velocity, which means you'll be working on distributed systems that matter to the business while also influencing the technical standards that allow Postscript to grow sustainably.
This is a high-autonomy role for engineers who are energized by ambiguity, take genuine ownership of their work, and bring a strong point of view on how to build things well — without sacrificing speed or pragmatism. AI isn't a nice-to-have here — it's central to how we work. We expect our engineers to be active practitioners of AI-first development: fluent with the latest agentic coding tools, curious about what's emerging, and constantly pushing the boundary of what's possible with AI in their day-to-day craft. If you're the kind of engineer who's already experimenting with new models and tooling before anyone asks you to, you'll feel at home here.
As a senior engineer at Postscript, you’ll no longer be only writing code but orchestrating it.
This position is fully remote and can be based in the US or Canada.
Primary Duties
Take deep ownership of systems and product areas on your team — becoming the go-to technical expert for what you own
Independently investigate, design, and execute solutions across distributed systems with a high degree of ambiguity
Architect, build, and maintain highly available, scalable REST APIs and backend services for internal and external use
Drive system decoupling, modularization, and technical debt reduction — improving long-term maintainability without blocking near-term delivery
Build agentically as your default: leveraging concurrent autonomous agent workflows, owning the output, and keeping a steady queue of aligned work moving
Stay at the forefront of emerging AI tooling and practices, bringing new techniques back to the team and helping raise the floor for how Postscript engineers work
Contribute to how we think about integrating AI into our systems and workflows — not just using AI tools, but helping shape where and how AI creates leverage across the engineering org
Collaborate cross-functionally with product, data, and go-to-market teams — communicating clearly and proactively in an async-first environment
Identify and eliminate single points of failure, improving system resilience and knowledge redundancy across your team
Improve how engineering gets done: bring better tools, fix workflow friction, build internal utilities when the leverage compounds
What We'll Love About You
6+ years of experience building large-scale backend systems and APIs
You are an active, daily user of AI coding tools and are using them to maximize your output — Claude Code, Cursor, Copilot, or equivalent — and can speak concretely to how they've changed your output and your workflow
Tech stack: Python, Go, React, and TypeScript; experience with Kubernetes, AWS, Datadog, and relational/NoSQL databases. You run agentic workflows autonomously and concurrently.
You follow the AI tooling landscape closely: new model releases, emerging agentic workflows, and evolving best practices aren't things you catch up on eventually — they're things you're tracking in real time
You think critically about AI output — you know where it accelerates you, where it introduces risk, and how to verify what it produces
You are able to context switch extremely quickly across concurrent workstreams
Experience working on both 0-to-1 initiatives and complex existing systems — and knowing how to balance building new things with improving what's there
Strong command of relational and NoSQL databases, SQL, and thoughtful database modeling
Familiarity building and observing applications on AWS, and ideally with Datadog or comparable observability tooling
Clear, direct communication — cross-functional partners and async teams can count on you to surface information proactively
Strong instincts for technical tradeoffs informed by both engineering best practices and business priorities
What You'll Love About Us
Salary range of USD $175,000–$205,000 base plus significant equity (we do not have geo-based salaries)
High growth startup — plenty of room for you to directly impact the company and grow your career
Work from home (or wherever)
Fun — we're passionate and enjoy what we do
Competitive compensation and opportunity for equity
Flexible paid time off
Health, dental, vision insurance

Backed by Greylock and Y Combinator, fully remote since 2018.
As Senior Engineering Manager for the Messaging Channels team at Postscript, you will lead a team of 8 highly skilled product and platform engineers who own the messaging backbone that every Postscript product ships through. Your team is responsible for (1) Flow Builder, Postscript’s automation product that merchants use to orchestrate their customer journeys, (2) the high-volume SMS campaign send engine that powers some of the largest DTC brands in the world, (3) the messaging platform and infrastructure that every other product at Postscript is built on top of, and (4) expansion into new channels that meet our merchants wherever their customers are.
