Senior Data Engineer
Range · McLean, Virginia, United States
Pay
$130k–205k
Setting
On-site
Most wealth management is fragmented. Range is building AI-powered wealth management that actually works. One platform – investments, taxes, retirement, estate – all of it. All helping members manage financial complexity. Backed by Google's Gradient Ventures, Cathay Innovation, and Scale Venture Partners. Hyper-growth. Small team. Every person matters.
ABOUT THE ROLE
As a Senior Data Engineer at Range, you’ll be the technical owner of Range’s data infrastructure at a pivotal moment. We’ve grown organically and have different warehouses and a patchwork of ingestions, processes and standards. We’re building the platform, practices and core data model that the next stage of growth depends on. You’ll define the standards, architecture and foundational data model that will shape how we leverage data for years. You’ll also build governance into the foundation that supports our current regulations and the ones we are growing into.
This role is ideal for a senior data engineer who's done this before with strong opinions on dimensional modeling and data architecture, comfortable making the foundational calls in a fast-moving environment where the data is regulated.
We're excited to hire this role at Range's Headquarters in McLean, VA. All of our positions follow an in-office schedule Monday through Friday, allowing you to collaborate directly with your team. If you're not currently based in the area, but love what you see, let’s discuss relocation as part of your journey to joining us.
WHAT YOU’LL DO WITH US
- Own the foundational data model. Design how our core entities look and are structured in the warehouse. Make the calls on grain, slowly changing dimensions, snapshot strategy, and the conventions our staging and mart layers are built on.
- Set the standards. Define how we do testing, documentation, orchestration, and alerting across all our data infrastructure and bring our existing warehouses up to that bar.
- Build and operate the ingestion layer. Design and maintain pipelines that move data reliably from internal and external sources into the warehouse, using Fivetran, dbt and Python where each fits best. Implement the data quality checks, alerting, and troubleshooting tools that let us catch issues before stakeholders do.
- Architect for governance. Build role-based access, and audit controls into the foundation so that governance scales with the platform instead of being retrofitted later.
- Help shape the platform decision. We're evaluating our long-term data platform and whether to consolidate on what we have or move to something new. You'll partner with our Head of Data and Analytics on the evaluation and own the migration end-to-end once the decision is made.
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
- 5+ years of experience in Data Engineering, including time as the most senior data engineer on a team or workstream.
- Production experience with a modern data toolset including dbt, a cloud warehouse or lakehouse, and modern orchestration and ingestion tooling.
- Strong dimensional modeling fundamentals — you can defend a choice between Kimball, Inmon, or a hybrid based on the problem in front of you, and you've designed type-1/type-2 SCDs in production.
- Track record of setting standards on documentation, testing and alerting on a team that didn't have them.
WHAT WILL SET YOU APART
- You've built data infrastructure under real regulatory constraints at an RIA, broker-dealer, bank or anywhere SOC 2 / Reg S-P / shaped what you built and how.
- You leverage AI as a force multiplier in your own work. You've developed real instincts for when to lean on it, when to verify, and where it actually accelerates pipeline development, modeling, and debugging.
- You've done a warehouse consolidation or platform migration end-to-end where you made the architectural calls and lived with the consequences and not just executed someone else’s plan
BENEFITS
- Health & Wellness: 100% employer-covered medical insurance for employees (75% for dependents), plus dental and vision coverage
- 401(k): Retirement savings program to support your future
- Paid Time Off: Dedicated time to reset and recharge plus most federal holidays

Senior Security Engineer
Range · McLean, Virginia, United States
Pay
$130k–225k
Setting
On-site
At Range, we’re building towards a world where anyone can live the financial life they imagine for themselves. If that sounds like a mission you want to be a part of, let’s create it together.
We’re building AI-powered wealth management. Investments, taxes, retirement, estate planning, all in one platform instead of scattered across different advisors and apps. We're backed by Google's Gradient Ventures, Cathay Innovation, Scale Venture Partners, and more. We’re growing fast while still small enough that everyone's work is visible and impactful.
We're looking for a senior security engineer who breaks things so our members never have to worry.
About the Role
You will be the person who keeps our members' financial lives safe. Range handles sensitive data across investments, taxes, retirement, and estate planning. That means security isn't a side function here. It's foundational.
You'll think like an attacker so we can build like defenders. You'll probe our AI systems, infrastructure, and applications for weaknesses before anyone else can find them. When you find something, you won't just write it up. You'll work directly with engineers to fix it. When you see a gap in how we detect or respond to threats, you'll close it yourself.
You'll also help us think about what's next. AI introduces new attack surfaces that most security playbooks don't cover yet. Training pipelines, inference systems, model architectures, supply chain risks. You'll be the person figuring out what those threats actually look like for a fintech company and what we need to do about them.
We think really big, but we ship small and incrementally. You'll build automated tools to scale what you do, contribute to how we measure security as a program, and help the whole engineering team raise their security instincts. At Range, security engineers are builders, not gatekeepers.
Who you are
A builder who breaks things on purpose. You go from threat model to proof of concept to remediation plan. You don't just identify risks in a spreadsheet. You demonstrate them and help fix them.
Offense-minded. You've spent real time doing red team operations, penetration testing, or security research. You know how attackers actually work, not just how frameworks describe them.
Curious about AI. You have growing expertise in AI/ML security, or you're deeply motivated to develop it. You're thinking about prompt injection, model poisoning, data exfiltration from training pipelines, and the attack surfaces that most teams haven't mapped yet.
Independent and collaborative. You can run a complex assessment solo and then sit with an engineering team to explain what you found and why it matters. You make security feel like a partnership, not a penalty.
AI-native. You're already using AI every day as core infrastructure. You see it as the thing that makes one security engineer dramatically more effective.
You care about outcomes. You connect every finding back to real risk for real members. You prioritize what actually matters over what looks impressive in a report.
What we’re looking for
- 6+ years of professional security engineering experience
- Deep hands-on experience with offensive security: red teaming, penetration testing, or vulnerability research
- Experience assessing cloud infrastructure security, preferably AWS (EC2, ECS, RDS, S3, IAM, and similar)
- Ability to develop custom tools and automation for security testing (Python, Go, or similar)
- Experience analyzing and exploiting web application vulnerabilities
- Strong understanding of threat actor techniques, tactics, and procedures
- Ability to translate technical security findings into clear, actionable recommendations for engineering teams
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience
What will set you apart
- Experience with AI/ML system security: training pipelines, inference systems, model architectures
- Familiarity with AI-specific attack vectors such as prompt injection, model poisoning, or data extraction
- Fintech or financial services security experience
- Experience building security metrics and reporting frameworks
- Startup experience
- Relevant certifications (OSCP, OSCE, GXPN, or similar)
Not for you if
- You treat security as a compliance checkbox.
- You'd rather write a policy doc than prove an exploit.
- You need a fully scoped engagement plan before you can start testing.
- You're offended by the idea that AI changes everything about this job.
- You optimize for consensus over conviction.
Benefits
- Health & Wellness: 100% employer-covered medical insurance for employees (75% for dependents), plus dental and vision coverage
- 401(k): Retirement savings program to support your future
- Paid Time Off: time to reset and recharge + most federal holidays
- Parental Leave: Comprehensive leave policy for growing families
- Meals: Select meals covered throughout the week
- Fitness: Monthly movement stipend
- Equity & Career Growth: Early exercise eligibility and a strong focus on professional development
- Annual Compensation Reviews: Salary and equity refreshes based on performance

Senior iOS Engineer
Range · McLean, Virginia, United States
Pay
$165k–250k

At Range, we’re building towards a world where anyone can live the financial life they imagine for themselves. If that sounds like a mission you want to be a part of, let’s create it together.
We’re building AI-powered wealth management. Investments, taxes, retirement, estate planning, all in one platform instead of scattered across different advisors and apps. We're backed by Google's Gradient Ventures, Cathay Innovation, Scale Venture Partners, and more. We’re growing fast while still small enough that everyone's work is visible and impactful.
About the Role
We're looking for a Senior iOS Engineer to own and evolve the Range iOS experience. You'll shape how members interact with their financial life on mobile. This is a high-ownership role on a small, fast-moving team where what you build ships to members quickly and visibly.
You'll work closely with product, design, and other engineers to define what mobile-first wealth management looks like. You won't just implement specs. You'll challenge them, improve them, and push the craft of iOS development forward at Range.
Who you are
A builder. You care about shipping real things to real people. You don't wait for perfect requirements. You dig in, figure it out, and make it better along the way.
Craft-obsessed. You sweat the details that most engineers skip. Animations, transitions, scroll performance, accessibility. You know these things are the difference between an app people tolerate and one they love.
A product thinker. You think beyond the code to how a feature feels in someone's hands. You push back on designs that won't work well on device and propose alternatives that are better for the member.
A leader by example. You raise the bar through the quality of your own work, the clarity of your code reviews, and the way you help other engineers grow. You don't need a title to lead.
Obsessed with the member. Our members trust us with their financial lives. You take that seriously. Every interaction, every animation, every edge case matters because trust is built in the details.
How you lead at this level
You own major product surfaces on iOS end-to-end. You're the person the team looks to for how things should be built on mobile, from architecture decisions to interaction patterns. You drive technical direction for the iOS codebase, shape the conventions other engineers follow, and make sure what we ship feels as good as what we designed. You partner directly with product and design to influence what gets built, not just how. When something is ambiguous, you bring clarity. When something isn't good enough, you say so.
What we’re looking for
- 5+ years of mobile development experience, with meaningful time spent building and shipping consumer-facing apps
- Expertise in Swift and SwiftUI
- Experience architecting modular, testable iOS applications
- Track record of mentoring engineers and raising the technical bar on a team
- Excellent communication skills. You can articulate technical tradeoffs to engineers and non-engineers alike
What will set you apart
- 0 to 1 mobile product experience
- Excellent product instincts. You think about users first, not the cleverest technical solution
- Ability to solve ambiguous problems without being told exactly what to do
- Security engineering experience
- Fintech experience
- Startup experience
Not for you if
- You need a defined process before you can start working.
- You think mobile is just a smaller screen for the same experience.
- You'd rather wait for a spec than shape the product yourself.
- You optimize for consensus over conviction.
- You think "move fast" means lower the bar.

You’ll lead a team of full-stack engineers while staying deep in the code yourself. Think player-coach: you’re shipping production features one day and unblocking an engineer’s architecture decision the next. You’ll own the delivery cadence, technical quality, and growth trajectory of your team while partnering closely with product, design, and our financial planning org to build the platform our members rely on. We ship fast, we ship often, and we expect our engineering leaders to understand every layer of what we’re building.
This role is based at Range's Headquarters in McLean, VA. Employees hired for this position will work in office Monday-Friday. If you are not currently located in this area, your willingness to relocate will be a contingency for employment.
What You’ll Do With Us
- Lead, mentor, and grow a team of 4–8 full-stack engineers. Run effective 1:1s, give direct and specific feedback, and create clear career development paths.
- Stay hands-on in the codebase. Write production code, conduct thorough code reviews, and make architectural decisions on systems that handle real money and sensitive financial data.
- Own your team’s delivery end-to-end. Scope projects, set milestones, remove blockers, and hold yourself and your engineers accountable for shipping high-quality work on time.
- Partner closely with product managers and designers to translate member needs and business goals into engineering roadmaps and sprint plans.
- Drive engineering excellence across the organization—improve CI/CD pipelines, strengthen observability and testing, reduce deployment friction, and raise the bar on code quality.
- Recruit and retain exceptional engineers. Build a team you’d want to work for. Sell candidates on the mission and close them on the opportunity.
- Champion our AI-first approach. Help the team adopt and integrate AI tooling into daily workflows to multiply velocity and output quality.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with our planning team, investment and tax specialists and compliance to ensure what we build meets the standard our members expect from their financial partner.
- Establish and champion engineering best practices. Produce clean, high-quality code, tests, and documentation.
What Will Set You Apart
- 5+ years of professional full stack software engineering experience with at least 1–2 years leading a team.
- Proficiency in JavaScript, TypeScript, or similar.
- Experience working with AWS or similar cloud platforms.
- Excellent product instincts. You first think about users rather than the best technical solution.
- Track record of building, shipping, and operating reliable production systems—you understand what it takes to build secure software at scale, not just pass a code review.
- Genuine interest in growing people. You give direct, actionable feedback and have helped engineers level up through mentorship or management.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced startup environment.
- Ability to solve ambiguous problems without the need to be told exactly what to do.
- Ability to pick up on new technologies very quickly.
- Comfortable working across the stack (frontend, backend, infrastructure).
- You communicate with clarity and conviction—with your team, with leadership, and across functions.
- Bonus: experience in fintech, wealth management, regulated financial services or startups.
Benefits
- Competitive base salary + meaningful equity with early exercise eligibility
- Health & Wellness: 100% employer-covered medical insurance for employees (75% for dependents), plus dental and vision coverage
- 401(k): Retirement savings program to support your future
- Paid Time Off: 15 vacation days annually + most federal holidays
- Parental Leave: Comprehensive leave policy for growing families
- Technology Allowance: Spend what you need to make sure you’re cruising at optimal speed
- Team Weeks: We bring our team together every few months for hackathons, coaching, strategy discussions, and experiencing amazing events together
- Meals: Select meals throughout the week to support convenience, collaboration, and productivity
- Fitness: Monthly gym stipend to support your well-being
- Career Growth: Conference attendance, workshops, and continued learning support
- Boomerang Program: After two years, take time to launch your own venture—we’ll save your seat

We're looking for a software engineer who understands the user's problem, architects a solution, and ships it. Sometimes the same day. Your work lives in production, not in a design doc.
At this stage, every IC engineer at Range can operate as a 10x IC. There is very little stopping you from building.
You'll use AI workflows to move faster alongside the team and customers, bringing the best solutions to life. We think really big and ship fast, without lowering the bar on quality. You'll define how engineering operates here by figuring out what's actually possible when a great engineer leans all the way into AI.
Your architecture and your code will be how this company scales. When you build something that works, we move. Engineers at Range are catalysts, turning ideas into real products and creating momentum. That's how we lead. Ship fast, learn, iterate.
Who you are
A builder. You go from problem to prototype to production. You don't wait for a perfectly scoped ticket or a sprint planning meeting. You see the gap and you close it.
Craft-obsessed. You've studied how the best companies build software and have real opinions about what makes it great. Your standards are high. What you ship is clean, secure, and considered, even when you ship it fast.
Intuition-driven. You've done enough reps to trust your gut on architecture decisions, move quickly, and be right far more often than you're wrong. When the requirements aren't clear, you use judgement to evaluate tradeoffs. Always finding a way to move.
AI-native. You're already using AI every day as core infrastructure. You see it as the thing that turns one engineer into ten.
Full-stack by instinct. Frontend, backend, infrastructure. You go wherever the problem is. React, TypeScript, Node, AWS are your tools, not your identity. You pick up whatever's needed.
You care about outcomes. Every endpoint, every interaction, every system is built around how your customers will actually experience the product.
Where you operate at this level
You produce high-quality, impactful work that drives team success. You take full ownership — proactively identifying and addressing challenges while staying focused on solutions. You lead by example with positivity, reframing setbacks as opportunities to learn and grow. You collaborate openly through radical transparency, ensuring alignment and trust among teammates and stakeholders.
What we’re looking for
- Deep expertise in TypeScript, JavaScript, Python, or other programming languages
- Extensive experience designing, building, and operating production systems on AWS or similar cloud platforms (EC2, ECS, RDS, DynamoDB, S3, CloudWatch)
- Proven ability to work across the stack — frontend, backend, infrastructure — and make sound tradeoffs between them
- Track record of leading technical projects that span multiple services or systems
- Experience defining technical direction for a team, including architecture decisions, tooling choices, and engineering standards
- Proven ability to architect, debug, and ship using AI development tools (Claude Code, Cursor, etc.) — not just prompting, but knowing when the output is wrong, why, and how to fix it
- Strong communication skills — you can align engineers and stakeholders around a technical approach
What will set you apart
- Experience designing scalable, high-availability distributed systems
- Experience building and maintaining complex web applications with React and TypeScript at scale
- Excellent product instincts — you partner with product and design to shape what gets built, not just how
- Ability to take a loosely defined business problem and drive it to a well-scoped technical solution
- Track record of raising the bar for engineering quality across a team (testing practices, observability, incident response)
- Security engineering experience
- Fintech experience
- Startup experience
Not for you if
- You need a fully scoped PRD before you can start working
- You're offended by the idea that AI changes everything about this job
- You'd rather debate architecture than ship and iterate
- You optimize for consensus over conviction
- You think "move fast" means lower the bar
Benefits
- Health & Wellness: 100% employer-covered medical insurance for employees (75% for dependents), plus dental and vision coverage
- 401(k): Retirement savings program to support your future
