Overview
Application
Skydio is the leading US drone company and the world leader in autonomous flight, the key technology for the future of drones and aerial mobility. The Skydio team combines deep expertise in artificial intelligence, best-in-class hardware and software product development, operational excellence, and customer obsession to empower a broader, more diverse audience of drone users, from utility inspectors to first responders, soldiers in battlefield scenarios, and beyond.
The Role
This onsite IT Operations Engineer position at Skydio's HQ is the front line of employee technology support — the person who makes sure every new hire's first day starts smoothly, every equipment request gets fulfilled, every conference room works when a meeting starts, and every walk-up question gets answered fast.
You'll own the full employee technology lifecycle: onboarding, transfers, offboarding, equipment provisioning, purchasing, conference room support, and day-to-day employee technology support. As the face of IT, you'll be the first point of contact for walk-up requests and helpdesk tickets, gathering the right information, resolving issues where possible, and coordinating with the appropriate IT teams when additional expertise is needed. You'll also ensure employee accounts and devices are correctly provisioned throughout their lifecycle using Okta and JumpCloud while continuously improving operational processes.
The ideal candidate is a proactive, personable operator who's comfortable being the visible face of IT in the office — someone who treats a broken conference room mic or a new hire's Day 1 laptop with the same urgency as an escalated ticket, and who's always looking for ways to make the process a little smoother next time.
Location: This is an office-based position that requires 5 days/week onsite at Skydio HQ in San Mateo, CA.
Key Responsibilities
Serve as the primary point of contact for walk-up and ticketed IT support by gathering information, troubleshooting hardware, software, and connectivity issues across Linux, Windows, and Mac, resolving issues where possible and coordinating with other IT teams when additional expertise is needed.
Provide hands-on support for hardware diagnostics, system provisioning, and patch management.
Take ownership of issues from intake through resolution by investigating problems, collaborating with teammates when needed and following through to ensure employees receive timely support. Demonstrate curiosity, initiative, and a willingness to continuously learn new technologies and processes.
Own the employee technology lifecycle end-to-end — new hire onboarding, internal transfers, and offboarding — provisioning and deprovisioning accounts, devices, and access on schedule, every time ensuring every employee has a seamless Day 1 experience.
Administer and improve Okta for identity and access: SSO, MFA, user provisioning/deprovisioning, group management, and automation workflows tied to onboarding and offboarding events.
Ensure employee devices are properly enrolled in JumpCloud during onboarding, updated throughout conversions, and removed during offboarding. Wipe, reimage, and prepare returned devices for redeployment, monitor device compliance, and coordinate warranty repairs and hardware replacements when necessary.
Manage the full equipment request lifecycle — intake, approval, purchasing, provisioning, and tracking — ensuring employees have the hardware they need, on time.
Maintain accurate IT asset inventory records, prepare returned devices for redeployment, monitor stock levels, and ensure equipment is available to support onboarding and replacement requests.
Coordinate hardware refresh, repair, and retirement across the device lifecycle.
Proactively maintain and troubleshoot conference room and meeting space technology — displays, cameras, microphones, and video conferencing systems.
Be a visible, responsive IT presence in the office, keeping shared workspaces, hotdesks, and meeting rooms running smoothly for daily meetings and company events.
Proactively collaborate with the IT team and other departments to implement best practices and continuously improve workflows.
Document processes, configurations, and troubleshooting procedures to maintain clear and thorough technical records.
What Makes You a Good Fit
A degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related technical field, or equivalent hands-on experience.
Minimum of 2 years supporting employees in a fast-paced office environment, and hands-on technical experience supporting Linux, Windows, and Mac environments — ideally including onboarding/offboarding, equipment provisioning, and walk-up support in an office setting.
Identity & access management: Experience supporting day-to-day Okta administration, including user imports, user activation, password and MFA resets, group assignments, and troubleshooting common application provisioning issues. Comfortable escalating more complex identity issues when needed.
Device management: Experience with JumpCloud or similar MDM/device management tooling, including compliance policies and scripting.
AV & meeting room technology: Comfortable troubleshooting conference room displays, cameras, microphones, and video conferencing systems.
Networking fundamentals: Working knowledge of TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, and VLANs, with the ability to use diagnostic tools to troubleshoot connectivity issues and support a network engineer when needed.
Strong problem-solving skills with a proactive mindset and a desire to improve processes, automate repetitive tasks, and continuously learn.
Excellent communication skills — comfortable being the visible, approachable face of IT and able to collaborate effectively with non-technical staff across all levels.
A proactive, organized operator who takes ownership, enjoys helping others, can balance multiple priorities, and thrives in a fast-paced environment with frequent interruptions.
Obtaining FAA Part 107 certification within the first 60 days of employment is strongly encouraged for all Skydio employees and required for certain positions.
Compensation: At Skydio, our compensation packages for regular, full-time employees include competitive base salaries, equity in the form of stock options, and comprehensive benefits packages. Compensation will vary based on factors, including skill level, proficiencies, transferable knowledge, and experience. Relocation assistance may also be provided for eligible roles. Automate how we collect, validate, and report compliance evidence continuously across our cloud and corporate environments
Build dashboards and pipelines that give real-time visibility into control status, gaps, and audit readiness
As part of Security and GRC, translate framework requirements into practical, testable, code-driven controls
Improve how we monitor, prioritize, patch, and respond to vulnerabilities across our cloud footprint
Over time, design and build internal security systems end to end (e.g., vulnerability risk management, web application firewalls), review RFCs, and partner with engineering teams on architecturally significant, security-relevant decisions
Participate in the security team's on-call rotation
