PRODUCT DESIGNER, AI DESIGN SYSTEMS
Cherry | Individual Contributor, Founding Design Systems Hire
ABOUT THE ROLE
At Cherry, design and engineering aren't converging someday: they've already converged. We design with Claude. Our design system isn't a component library we maintain on the side; it's the infrastructure that makes speed and quality the same thing, for every one of our five products.
We're looking for the founding member of Cherry's design systems team: someone who takes this system, still young, and turns it into the backbone of how Cherry builds. This isn't a caretaker role. It's a chance to define, from the ground up, what a design system looks like when AI is a first-class collaborator rather than an afterthought, and to lead that vision as the team grows around it.
This role is the foundation of Cherry's quality at scale. When the system is right, good decisions aren't made by individuals: they're encoded, and reinforced automatically by the tools everyone already uses to design and build. Get this right, and every team at Cherry moves faster with less risk. That's the bar this role is held to, not "good enough," but the standard every other decision gets measured against.
Cherry's design system spans our provider web application, consumer web application, provider mobile application, consumer mobile application, and point-of-sale system. You'll own the component library, the React codebase, interaction patterns, tokens, and documentation, end to end. Cherry is fully committed to AI-native workflows: everyone here designs and builds with Claude, and we have a dedicated AI Enablement team pushing that further. We're moving away from traditional Figma-first workflows toward tooling built for the AI era, and this role will lead that transition, not just adapt to it.
You won't be maintaining a library. You'll be building, and leading, the next version of it, with real say in the team that grows around this work.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
Founding Member
- Serve as a founding member of Cherry's design systems team, with real say in how it's structured, staffed, and led as it grows
- Guide the team through the shift to AI-native workflows, and influence how Cherry adopts new tools and practices as they emerge
Own the System
- Own the design system end to end: the component library, tokens, and documentation
- Own the design direction of the system, along with component architecture, implementation, and outcomes in code
- Improve the system across teams: identify structural issues, align approaches, and evolve patterns for scale rather than just maintaining what exists
Lead on Design
- Influence interaction and visual design for the design system, guiding decisions across teams rather than owning a single surface
- Influence Cherry's design language, evolving it rather than just documenting what's already there
Build for Claude First
- Build a Claude-first, modern AI design system: one where Claude and other AI agents produce on-system output by default
- Help determine what Cherry's design toolset looks like next, rather than defaulting to whatever we use today
Collaborate
- Work closely with your front-end engineering partner in the USA on component architecture, implementation, and code review
- Improve how design and engineering communicate and execute together, identifying friction and adjusting process across initiatives
WHAT YOU BRING
- 6-10 years of experience in product design
- Real, proven coding and technical skills, not just familiarity with code
- A track record of guiding visual and interaction decisions across teams: evolving patterns and addressing inconsistencies, not just applying what already exists
- Experience improving a design system across teams: identifying structural issues, aligning approaches, and building for scale
- A strong point of view on design tooling: you'll help determine what Cherry's toolset looks like next, not just execute in Figma or Pencil because that's what we use today
- Ability to communicate fluently with designers, engineers, and product leaders, and to align multiple teams around a shared design direction
- The instinct to lead: you've either run a small team or function before, or you're ready to be the first person doing so
NICE TO HAVE
- Hands-on experience with Claude, including Claude Code: you've authored the skills and rules that encode design decisions into how it works, so it produces on-system output by default
- Comfortable writing and shipping production code: you don't need to be a React specialist, we already have a strong foundation for code quality
- Strong understanding of front-end testing practices and code hygiene
- Experience collaborating with distributed teams
YOU'RE PROBABLY A GREAT FIT IF...
- You want to be the person who defines what design systems become in the AI era, not someone who waits to be told
- You believe design systems are the actual source of a company's scalability and efficiency: not a style guide, not a Storybook, but the infrastructure that determines how fast and how well a company builds
- You want to found something. This is a team of one today, and you'll have real say in what it becomes
- You get frustrated when good design decisions aren't encoded somewhere they can scale, and you do something about it

Flex is a growth-stage, NYC headquartered FinTech company that is creating the best rent payment experience. It’s hard to believe that it’s 2026 and paying rent on time is expensive, inflexible, and difficult. We’re here to change that! Flex enables our users to pay rent throughout the month on a schedule that better fits their finances and budget. Our mission is to empower as many renters as possible with flexibility over their most significant recurring expense. After deliberately keeping a stealth profile as we built up unprecedented investor support and an enthusiastic user base, we are looking for motivated individuals to help us keep our mission growing. Will you be a part of the team?
About the Role
We are seeking an experienced and visionary Staff Product Designer to serve as Flex's highest-caliber individual design contributor. In this role, you will set the bar for craft and quality across our entire product portfolio - not by managing designers, but by doing the work at a level others aspire to. You will drive design vision and strategy for the most complex, highest-impact initiatives at Flex, shaping how we build for our users and how the design function operates.
Vision and Strategy
Define and articulate design vision for Flex's most critical and complex product initiatives, ensuring work aligns with business goals and resonates deeply with our users
Establish a north star for the consumer experience and drive cross-functional alignment around it
Influence product strategy and roadmap directly through the quality and clarity of your design work and perspective
Stay close to how the design industry and UX trends are evolving and bring those insights into Flex
Quality and Craft
Own the design process end-to-end on flagship initiatives, from research and ideation through refinement, prototyping, and final execution
Hold a high bar for craft across everything you touch, from individual interaction patterns to our design system
Build detailed prototypes that illuminate the future of the product and help teams make better decisions
Use AI across the design lifecycle for, rapid exploration, prototyping, and front-end workflows, and model how the team can do the same
Influence and Collaboration
Partner with design leadership, product, and engineering to shape the direction of complex, cross-cutting product areas
Collaborate with other designers to ensure alignment and consistency across the consumer experience
Advocate for design thinking and user-centered principles across the company at every level, up to and including executive leadership
Standards and Mentorship
Establish and evolve design standards, processes, and patterns that raise the quality floor for the entire organization
Provide mentorship and craft feedback to designers across the team
Contribute foundational elements and set the standard for how the design system should evolve
Key Qualifications
Experience: A demonstrated track record as a senior IC contributor on complex consumer products
Design Mastery: Deep expertise in UX/UI design with strong experience showcasing shipped work at significant scope and quality
Strategic Thinking: Ability and demonstrated experience to operate at the product strategy level, shaping direction through design
Craft: Exceptional execution skills with high attention to detail in interaction design, visual design, and prototyping
Collaboration: Excellent communication skills; able to work fluidly with cross-functional teams including product, engineering, marketing, and executive leadership
Tools and Tech: Proficiency in modern design tooling; and fluency with front-end development
AI Fluency: Comfort using AI tools across the design process for research, exploration, prototyping, and workflow improvement
Passion: Genuine interest in financial products and improving people's financial lives
Compensation
This is a contract position with an hourly rate of $125–$200 per hour, commensurate with experience and our internal leveling guidelines. Flex takes a market-based approach to pay and utilizes a geographic pay differential based on a cost of labor index; if you are located outside of our Tier 1 (NYC/Bay Area) markets, your rate will be adjusted to align with the market conditions of your specific geographic zone. There is potential for this engagement to convert to a full-time role, in which case compensation would be aligned to the full-time salary range and benefits for the level.

Completing this form is voluntary, and we hope that you will choose to do so. Your answer is confidential. No one who makes hiring decisions will see it. Your decision to complete the form and your answer will not harm you in any way. If you want to learn more about the law or this form, visit the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) website at www.dol.gov/ofccp.

As the leading AI lending marketplace, we partner with banks and credit unions to expand access to affordable credit through technology that’s both radically intelligent and deeply human. And whether you choose to work primarily from home or collaborate in-person from one of our offices in Columbus, Austin, the Bay Area, or New York City (opening Summer 2026), you’ll have the support to work in the way that works best for you.
If you’re energized by tackling meaningful problems, excited to innovate with purpose, and motivated by work that truly matters, we’d love to hear from you.

Monitor the Bank’s liquidity position through daily, weekly, and monthly reporting, including survival horizon, available liquidity, unencumbered liquid assets, funding concentrations, maturity profiles, deposit composition, collateral utilization, and early warning indicators.
Prepare baseline and stressed liquidity forecasts, analyze deposit and funding behavior, quantify contingent funding needs, and recommend actions to address emerging liquidity risks.
Maintain the Contingency Funding Plan, funding playbooks, operational procedures, counterparty contacts, and borrowing documentation, and coordinate periodic contingency funding exercises.

As a government contractor subject to the Vietnam Era Veterans' Readjustment Assistance Act (VEVRAA), we request this information in order to measure the effectiveness of the outreach and positive recruitment efforts we undertake pursuant to VEVRAA. Classification of protected categories is as follows:
A "disabled veteran" is one of the following: a veteran of the U.S. military, ground, naval or air service who is entitled to compensation (or who but for the receipt of military retired pay would be entitled to compensation) under laws administered by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs; or a person who was discharged or released from active duty because of a service-connected disability.
A "recently separated veteran" means any veteran during the three-year period beginning on the date of such veteran's discharge or release from active duty in the U.S. military, ground, naval, or air service.
An "active duty wartime or campaign badge veteran" means a veteran who served on active duty in the U.S. military, ground, naval or air service during a war, or in a campaign or expedition for which a campaign badge has been authorized under the laws administered by the Department of Defense.
An "Armed forces service medal veteran" means a veteran who, while serving on active duty in the U.S. military, ground, naval or air service, participated in a United States military operation for which an Armed Forces service medal was awarded pursuant to Executive Order 12985.
