Senior Robotics AI Engineer
About Us
Burro is the leading robotics company in the world by number of robots working outdoors in the field with real customers. Our mission is to free people from tedious work and solve the critical labor shortages faced by farmers and others that work outdoors.
To accomplish our mission, we need a world-class, diverse team where everyone feels comfortable sharing their ideas. With this in mind, we strive to create a work environment where every employee can be themselves and express their perspective – this enables us to deliver the most creative and innovative solutions to problems our customers face.
Headquartered in Philadelphia with an office in central California, and backed by top Agtech and autonomy investors, including S2G, Cibus, FPrime, Toyota Ventures, FFVC, Xplorer, and Radicle, Burro was created to solve the labor shortages facing farmers using robotics.
We are seeking a Senior Robotics AI Engineer with strong applied machine learning and robotics experience to own and evolve the intelligence behind robot perception and navigation across complex indoor and outdoor sites. This is a hands-on, production focused role where you will design, deploy, optimise and maintain AI systems that directly impact how our robot perceive, reason and move.
The ideal candidate will have a strong grasp of robotics and software engineering fundamentals, along with proven experience in deploying AI accelerated solutions in production environments.
\n- Own the development and productionization of ML systems, including model design, training, fine tuning, optimization, deployment and continuous improvement.
- Develop and adapt models across multimodal inputs (e.g., camera, LiDAR) and other AI domains as product needs evolve.
- Integrate ML outputs into the robotics stack, ensuring reliable performance under real-time and hardware constraints.
- Investigate customer reported issues and drive root-cause analysis to improve system robustness.
- Build and improve infrastructure for rapid experimentation, model iteration, evaluation and deployment.
- Improve and scale data collection, labeling, preprocessing and validation pipelines to ensure high-quality training datasets.
- Implement robust simulation and field testing workflows, along with production monitoring to detect drift and performance degradation.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with Product and Engineering to translate requirements into scalable AI solutions.
- Master’s degree or PhD in Robotics, Computer Science or a related technical field.
- 4+ years of professional experience in developing software for robotics and machine learning.
- Strong proficiency in Python and C++.
- Experience using ML frameworks like TensorFlow, PyTorch, or similar
- Proven experience building, deploying and maintaining ML models in production, ideally on edge systems.
- Hands-on experience working with camera and LiDAR data for perception and navigation tasks.
- Experience with ML optimization and acceleration tools (e.g., TensorRT), including familiarity with quantization, pruning and other model compression techniques.
- Strong problem solving mindset and comfort working across system boundaries.
- Ability to clearly communicate complex advanced concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Continual learning mindset and staying updated with the latest ML research and methodologies.
- MLOps Experience (experiment tracking, dataset versioning)
- Proficiency in ROS
- Familiarity with Docker, Linux and production infrastructure environments
- Competitive salary and benefits package (medical/dental/vision)
- Early-Stage Equity
- 401K Plan
- Unlimited PTO
- Paid parental leave

Why We Work In The Office
Our culture is built on innovation, quality and collaboration. We believe that working together and among other departments in person supports a sense of community, connection and belonging. So much of our communication as individuals is nonverbal—easier to discern and appreciate when we’re physically together. This synchrony not only gives us the power to innovate, but it helps us foster empathy, learning, and engagement. We want you to be a part of impromptu ideas dreamed and decisions made as people cross paths; to be in the right place at the right time to contribute your perspective; to look around and take pride in the diverse group of people with whom you work; to be seen by others when you’re recognized for a job well-done; and to look around, see things and help us build the best products and workplace we can. Our fast-paced environment pivots quickly, and we don’t want you to miss a thing.
