If you're looking for a role where your work directly translates into massive scale and social good, and you want to be part of the team that defines how the world eats, there is no better time to join us.
About the Role
As a Lead Solutions Engineer at Afresh, you will work directly with our grocery retail partners and Afresh colleagues to deploy our purpose-built fresh food solution and bring tangible, lasting impact to our partners.
Externally, you will build effective partnerships with customers to drive the success of end-to-end integrations. You will apply a skillset at the intersection of data architecture, operations, and predictive analytics to translate customers' business needs into technical design for integration to the Afresh platform. Internally, you'll collaborate cross-functionally and act as a connecting force between our integration technology and customers' operational reality.
You have experience managing customer relationships and leading technical projects in fast-paced environments. You are excited to reduce fresh food waste in the grocery industry, and help the planet in the process!
What You'll Do
A typical day might involve discussing data architecture with engineers, digging into customer data, and developing technical implementation strategies and specifications. Specifically, you will:
Own and execute integration projects from customer discovery through go-live — creating detailed project plans with milestones, risk mitigation, and success criteria, and coordinating internal and customer-facing stakeholders through each phase
Lead technical discovery and design engagements with customers, including multi-day on-sites where you independently scope 10–15 data interfaces, negotiate delivery timelines and formats, and leave with documented data integration specifications that power ML model training and deployment
Apply deep knowledge of Afresh's core data model and integration patterns to evaluate whether customer needs can be met through standard approaches; flag misalignments and propose adjustments to design for the customer's approach
Analyze complex data relationships, identify root causes of mismatches or anomalies, and build custom queries or lightweight tools to streamline validation and data mapping work
Collaborate with data engineering, product engineering, and data science to drive integration delivery; surface technical risks and ambiguities early and work cross-functionally to resolve them
Influence internal discussions with thoughtful input and context from customer needs; share learnings across Product, Sales, and Customer Success
Contribute to team documentation, templates, and onboarding content; mentor junior team members and take initiative on process improvements
What Will Make You a Great Fit
Demonstrated ability to independently own and execute complex integration projects end-to-end, including scoping, stakeholder coordination, and on-time delivery
Experience leading technical discovery and solution design with customer IT stakeholders, including drafting design documentation and guiding customers through technical trade-offs
Data transformation and design experience, with proven ability to work alongside data engineers, data scientists, and subject matter experts to implement customer integration requirements
Strong attention to detail and ability to communicate clearly across technical and non-technical audiences
Proficiency in SQL, Excel, and other analytical tools
Open to travel (up to 10%)
Nice to Have
Experience with AI/ML systems and identifying issues with data inputs used in predictive analysis
Commercial mindset that allows you to understand and act on what customers care about most
Dedication to quality, testing, design processes, automation, and operational excellence
This position is not eligible for company sponsorship.

Afresh, the AI platform for grocery, began by tackling the most complex problem in the industry: fresh, and has evolved into the core AI platform for grocers.
By leveraging proprietary AI designed for high-volatility environments, we empower partners like Albertsons, Meijer, and Wakefern to drive smarter decisions across their entire enterprise.
Following record-breaking 70% revenue growth in 2025, we have scaled to 6 enterprise-grade solutions, with solutions live in over 10% of the U.S. grocery market. Our platform now orchestrates billions of decisions from the store floor to the distribution center and prevented over 200 million pounds of food waste last year alone.
If you're looking for a role where your work directly translates into massive scale and social good, and you want to be part of the team that defines how the world eats, there is no better time to join us.
The Role
We are hiring a Controller to lead Afresh's accounting function, reporting directly to the VP of Strategy & Finance. This is a player-coach role: you will own the integrity of our books and financial reporting while building and mentoring a small accounting team. You will be responsible for accounting operations, month-end close, financial reporting, audit readiness, and compliance.
Just as importantly, you will be the leader who reimagines how modern accounting gets done. We are looking for someone who actively uses AI and automation to compress our close timeline, streamline AP/AR and expense workflows, and free the team from manual, repetitive work so they can focus on analysis and controls. You should be as comfortable designing a scalable close process as you are evaluating and deploying the tools that make it faster, more accurate, and more auditable.
What You'll Do
Lead accounting operations and the team. Own day-to-day accounting operations and build, coach, and develop a high-performing team of 1–3 accounting professionals. Develop and enforce accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls that improve operations and reduce risk as we scale. Serve as the organization's subject-matter expert on technical accounting.
Own a fast, reliable month-end close — and make it faster with AI. Drive an accurate, scalable, and increasingly automated monthly, quarterly, and year-end close that meets deadlines every period. Use AI and modern tooling to automate reconciliations, flux/variance analysis, journal entry preparation, and close checklists — measurably shortening the close while strengthening accuracy and audit trails. Ensure monthly financials comply with U.S. GAAP and are audit-ready.
Modernize AP, AR, and expense workflows. Own accounts payable, accounts receivable, and expense management end-to-end. Introduce AI-enabled automation for invoice capture and coding, collections, expense review, and anomaly/exception detection — reducing manual touchpoints, improving cash cycle times, and improving the employee experience. Continuously evaluate whether current systems are adequate to build scalable, sustainable processes.
Deliver financial reporting and insight. Lead the preparation and analysis of financial statements (income statement, balance sheet, cash flow) and the monthly reporting package. Provide clear, timely insight to leadership to support strategic decision-making.
Own revenue recognition and technical accounting. Own all activities related to revenue recognition (ASC 606), including policy, technical memos, and execution. Research and document accounting positions for new and complex transactions.
Lead audit readiness. Build trust-based relationships with external audit partners. Establish and maintain the technical memos, accounting policies, and internal controls needed to execute a successful audit, and manage the audit process end-to-end.
Manage payroll, tax, treasury, and compliance. Partner with People to execute timely and accurate payroll. Coordinate with third-party providers on preparation and filing of federal, state, payroll, and sales tax returns. Oversee treasury and cash management — monitoring balances, forecasting cash needs, and optimizing cash utilization. Own the company's insurance programs and renewals.
Partner across the business. Work closely with Finance/FP&A, People, Legal, and functional leaders to ensure contracts and transactions align with budgets and to guide decisions with sound financial data.
What You Bring
8+ years of progressive accounting experience, ideally including a high-growth SaaS or technology company.
Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field; CPA strongly preferred (MBA a plus).
Deep knowledge of U.S. GAAP, revenue recognition (ASC 606), financial reporting, audit, and compliance.
Demonstrated experience owning or leading a full audit.
A track record of using AI, automation, and modern accounting tools to drive efficiency — e.g., automating close tasks, reconciliations, AP/AR, or expense processes. You're genuinely curious about where technology can replace manual work, and you've done it.
Experience selecting, implementing, and managing accounting systems and integrations.
Strong people leadership: you've built, coached, or mentored accountants and set a high bar.
Excellent communication and analytical skills, with the ability to translate the numbers for non-finance partners.
A hands-on, self-directed operator who thrives in a fast-paced environment and sweats the details.
Nice to Have
Experience scaling an accounting function through rapid growth or a first audit.
Familiarity with treasury/cash management and budget review.
Exposure to fresh food, retail, supply chain, or marketplace business models.
The salary band for this role is $199,000 - $270,000 per year + meaningful early-stage equity + benefits

We are a federal contractor or subcontractor. The law requires us to provide equal employment opportunity to qualified people with disabilities. Your decision to complete the form and your answer will not harm you in any way. Sr. Product Designer, Ordering

About the Role
As the Sr. Product Designer for the Ordering team, you'll own the end-to-end experience for a web application used by corporate users who own the grocery replenishment function across tens of thousands of departments nationwide. You'll turn complex AI-driven forecasts into decisions these operators can act on with confidence. You'll work closely with product management, machine learning engineers, and mobile and full-stack engineers to create a holistic end-to-end experience. Your ownership, attention to detail, and your focus on outcomes will directly result in less food waste and real business value.
What You'll Do
Own end-to-end design for a web application for corporate users who own the grocery replenishment function, spanning ordering, exceptions, configuration, and performance.
Design reporting, insights, and performance dashboards, from table stakes today toward conversational, AI-powered analytics.
Design exception-based workflows and controls (ordering, display size, configuration, order policy tuning) that let corporate users manage operations without technical depth.
Shape agentic and conversational experiences that surface AI-powered insights to less-technical customers.
Own shared portal services UX (admin, permissions, authorization, multi-role) that no single team owns today.
Build reusable components and keep UX consistent across portal surfaces.
Ship quickly with the Ordering product and engineering teams using modern AI-assisted tools, and partner with design leadership on cross-product coherence.
Skills and Experience
The following represent the skills and experience our ideal candidate possesses. We encourage all highly-qualified candidates to apply, even if they do not fulfill all the listed criteria.
Senior-level product design experience shipping customer-facing software with measurable outcomes.
Deep enterprise SaaS experience, navigating complex systems and multiple tiers of users.
Product-minded with engineering overlap, comfortable building directly in code rather than handing off static mockups. We think of this as a "design-focused PM or product-focused designer with engineering depth."
Strong systems thinking: reusable patterns and coherent navigation across products and surfaces.
Comfort with modern, AI-assisted tooling for exploration, prototyping, and synthesis. Experience with rapidly creating prototypes using generative coding tools.
Excellent communication and collaboration across product, engineering, and design.
Nice-To-Haves
Experience designing for AI-powered products: conversational interfaces, anomaly detection, and agentic workflows.
Experience designing multi-role, permissions-based, or hierarchical enterprise experiences.
This position is not eligible for sponsorship

Staff Forward Deployed Engineer
San Francisco, CA

About the Role
Most companies make you choose: build the platform, or go deploy it. Here you do both — and that's the point.
As a Forward Deployed AI Engineer, you're part of a single team that both delivers Afresh's AI into enterprise grocery customers and builds the platform that makes that delivery fast. You'll spend dedicated time in the field — embedded with a customer, integrating into their data, shipping AI systems on top of it — and dedicated time on the platform, turning what you just learned into reusable tooling the whole team deploys next. You build the house you live in.
Afresh leads the customer relationship and direction; you and a small team bring the technical firepower — scope and architect the work with the customer, then build it. Because you also own the platform underneath, the rough edges you hit in the field become the things you fix at the root.
This is senior, hands-on, 0-to-1 work in a space with no playbook.
What You'll Do
In the field (forward deployed)
Partner with Afresh's account lead and the customer's technical teams to scope and architect the work — the data sources, the architecture, and the path to production.
Embed with the customer's data and engineering teams (remote and on-site); integrate into their cloud and data platform; build production-grade pipelines and model messy enterprise data into trustworthy data products.
Design and ship LLM- and agent-powered systems on that data — retrieval, agentic workflows, data-quality and analytics agents — reliable enough to run in production, not just to demo.
On the platform (building the house you live in)
Harden what works in the field into the shared platform: the knowledge and grounding layer (knowledge graph, ontology, and retrieval) that makes grocery data usable by LLMs, the agent frameworks, and the serving infrastructure.
Build the evals, tracing, and tooling that let the team measure quality — accuracy, hallucination rate, latency, cost — and ship faster on the next customer.
Build for leverage: clean interfaces and reusable building blocks, not one-off per-customer code.
Across both
Own the flywheel: field learnings flow straight into the platform, and platform improvements show up at the next customer.
What Makes You a Great Fit
We encourage all highly-qualified candidates to apply, even if they do not fulfill all the listed criteria.
5+ years building production software and data systems, with strong, production-grade code
An architect's instinct: you can take an ambiguous problem and a messy data landscape, design a clean and workable solution, and then build it.
Genuine AI/LLM depth — you've built real systems with LLMs and agents (retrieval/RAG, tool-use) and you evaluate quality rather than eyeball it.
Real data-engineering depth: building and operating data pipelines, modeling messy enterprise data, and working in a modern cloud data platform (Databricks, BigQuery, Snowflake, or similar).
Range across both modes — you genuinely like being in front of customers and going heads-down to build reusable infrastructure, and you can switch between them without one suffering. This is the role's defining trait.
Customer-facing comfort: you work well with a customer's engineers and data teams — running working sessions, explaining your thinking, and earning trust through what you deliver.
A bias toward ownership and momentum, and comfort traveling to customer sites regularly (~10-20%).
Nice to Have
Experience in grocery, retail, or supply chain data domains.
Knowledge graphs, ontologies, or semantic layers in production; graph and vector stores (pgvector, Pinecone, Weaviate) and hybrid search.
MCP or similar tool/context protocols; agent frameworks (e.g., LangGraph); MLOps, model serving, and observability for LLM systems.
Prior forward-deployed, solutions, or implementation engineering — or early-stage startup experience navigating rapid customer expansion.
Why Afresh?
We're a mission-driven company that eliminates hundreds of millions of pounds of food waste in grocery stores every year — your work has direct, visible impact.
You'll do both halves of the job: deploy with customers and build the platform you deploy — never a body-shop consultant, never an ivory-tower platform engineer.
Be part of an engineering culture that's genuinely AI-forward — we want to be on the bleeding edge of agentic development, not watching from the sidelines.
Senior team, high trust, and real ownership at a pivotal inflection point for how Afresh scales.

If you're looking for a role where your work directly translates into massive scale and social good, and you want to be part of the team that defines how the world eats, there is no better time to join us.
About the Role
Frontier models are a commodity. The knowledge you feed them is not.
As a Staff AI Platform Engineer, you build the AI and data platform that powers Afresh's products: the knowledge and retrieval layer that makes grocery data reliably usable by LLMs, the agent systems built on top of it, and the evaluation and serving infrastructure underneath. Your "customers" are Afresh's own engineers and AI products — your job is to give them a platform that turns raw grocery data into context a model can be trusted with, at production quality.
This is senior, 0-to-1 platform work. You'll make foundational choices about how we represent grocery knowledge, ground our models, and measure whether any of it is actually working — in a fast-moving space with no playbook.
What You’ll Do
Build the knowledge & retrieval layer
Design and operate the knowledge graph and ontology that capture how grocery data relates.
Build the retrieval systems (vector, graph, and structured) that feed the right context to our models — so grounding is reliable, not lucky.
Build and serve the agent platform
Build LLM-powered agents (tool-use, multi-step reasoning, orchestration) and the serving infrastructure to run them reliably and cost-effectively.
Build the tools, abstractions, and interfaces other engineers depend on — a platform, not one-off features.
Own evaluation, quality, and the data foundation
Stand up eval sets, LLM-as-judge harnesses, tracing, and observability, plus the metrics (faithfulness, accuracy, hallucination rate, latency, cost) that tell us whether a change helped or hurt.
Build the pipelines, data products, and experimentation on Databricks/MLflow that take work from prototype to production — and partner with the engineers deploying our AI in the field to harden what works into reusable capabilities.
What Makes You a Good Fit
We encourage all highly-qualified candidates to apply, even if they do not fulfill all the listed criteria.
5+ years building production software, data, or ML systems; an excellent engineer with strong systems and API design (Python).
Hands-on production experience with LLM systems: retrieval/RAG, agents and tool-use, prompt and context engineering — and, critically, evaluation. You measure quality; you don't eyeball it.
Solid data-engineering and data-platform foundations: pipelines, data modeling, and a modern cloud data stack (Databricks/Spark, MLflow, cloud warehouses).
Comfort in the messy middle of AI systems — retrieval quality, latency and cost trade-offs, non-determinism — and the instinct to build the guardrails and evals that make them trustworthy.
A platform mindset: you build for leverage and clean interfaces, and you thrive in ambiguity in a fast-moving space.
Nice to Have
Knowledge graphs, ontologies, or semantic layers in production; graph databases.
Vector stores (pgvector, Pinecone, Weaviate, etc.) and hybrid search.
MCP or similar tool/context protocols; agent frameworks (e.g., LangGraph).
MLOps and model serving at scale; experimentation and observability tooling for LLM systems.
Experience in grocery, retail, or other complex enterprise data domains.
Our Tech Stack
Python, PySpark, dbt
Databricks (Delta Lake, Unity Catalog, MLflow)
Astronomer (Airflow) for orchestration
LLMs and agents (Claude), retrieval over vector + graph stores, MCP tooling, eval and observability harnesses
Claude, GitHub, Shortcut, Notion for development workflows

San Francisco, CA
Apply
3+ years building production software and data systems, with strong, production-grade code

About the Role
We're looking for a sharp, proactive Strategic Finance Lead to be the beating heart of financial planning and analysis on our Strategy & Finance team. This is a rare build-it role: you'll be our sole dedicated FP&A partner, owning the models, forecasts, and insights that guide decision-making across the company — and reporting directly to the VP of Strategy & Finance.
What makes this seat different is how we expect the work to get done. We're not looking for someone to rebuild the same static spreadsheets faster. We want a finance operator who treats AI as a core part of their toolkit — using it to sharpen forecasts, pressure-test assumptions, automate the manual, and surface the insights that move the business. If you're energized by the idea of shaping both the numbers and the way modern finance gets done, this is your role.
You'll join a fast-paced, mission-driven Series B environment where your analysis directly informs how leadership allocates capital, sets targets, and places bets. You'll partner across every function, develop a deep understanding of the business, and see your work reflected in the decisions that shape our trajectory.
What You'll Do
Own forecasting, budgeting, and long-range planning — build and maintain the financial models that drive the annual budget, quarterly and monthly forecasts, and multi-year strategic plans.
Run the planning cycles end to end — partner with department heads to build plans that are both realistic and ambitious, and hold the process together as the single owner of FP&A.
Turn results into insight — analyze actuals against budget and forecast, explain the variances, and translate what happened into what we should do next.
Define and track the metrics that matter — develop KPIs and build clear, trustworthy dashboards and reporting that tell leadership the truth about performance quickly.
Be a true business partner — embed with Sales, Marketing, Product, Engineering, and Operations to support strategic initiatives with financial analysis and a point of view.
Inform the big decisions — prepare board-quality analysis and presentations for the executive team on financial performance, unit economics, and key business drivers.
Support strategic and ad-hoc work — model scenarios for fundraising, new product launches, pricing, and market expansion, and stand up analysis on whatever question is most important that week.
Raise the bar on how finance operates — drive process improvements across the FP&A function to make it faster, more accurate, and more scalable as the company grows.
How You'll Use AI in This Role
We believe AI is reshaping what a lean finance team can accomplish, and we want someone who is already leaning into it — or hungry to. This isn't a buzzword on the JD; it's a real expectation of how you'll work day to day. In this role, you'll:
Sharpen forecasting and modeling with AI — use AI tools and techniques to improve forecast accuracy, test assumptions, run scenarios faster, and stress-test the models behind key decisions.
Automate the manual — apply AI to streamline data gathering, reconciliation, reporting, and the repetitive parts of the close and planning cycles, so your time goes to analysis instead of assembly.
Generate insight, not just outputs — use AI to interrogate large and messy datasets, surface patterns and anomalies, and pull out the business insights that drive decisions.
Help set the standard — experiment with new AI-enabled finance tools and workflows, and help establish how our finance function uses AI responsibly and effectively as we scale.
You don't need to be an engineer. You do need to be genuinely curious about these tools, comfortable putting them to work, and thoughtful about where AI adds rigor versus where human judgment has to lead.
What You'll Bring
5+ years of progressive FP&A or strategic finance experience, ideally at a high-growth startup or technology company. (We care more about the caliber of your work than the exact number of years.)
Exceptional financial modeling skills — you build complex, elegant, and genuinely usable models, and you're a wizard with the tools of the trade.
Demonstrated use of AI in your work — you've already applied AI tools to forecasting, analysis, automation, or reporting, or you have a clear track record of adopting new technology to work smarter.
A strong grasp of GAAP, the three financial statements, and how they connect.
Proven ability to analyze financial data, find the signal, and communicate it clearly to both finance and non-finance audiences.
Excellent communication and presentation skills, and the judgment to tailor the message to the audience — from an analyst to the CEO.
Experience with financial planning and reporting software; comfort with SQL or BI tools is a plus.
A proactive, ownership-driven mindset — you're comfortable being the one person accountable for FP&A and you thrive without a playbook.
The ability to move fast, manage competing priorities, and stay accurate under pressure.
A collaborative spirit and a knack for building trust across the organization.
Bonus: experience in enterprise SaaS, supply chain, or the grocery/retail space.
Why This Role
Real ownership from day one — you'll own FP&A outright, with direct exposure to the VP of Strategy & Finance and the executive team.
High-leverage impact — your analysis directly shapes how the company plans, invests, and grows through a pivotal stage.
Build the future of finance — a genuine mandate to bring AI into how a modern finance function operates, not just permission to tinker at the edges.
Remote-first and flexible — work from anywhere in the U.S., with a team that cares about outcomes over hours.
This position is not eligible for company sponsorship.

If you're looking for a role where your work directly translates into massive scale and social good, and you want to be part of the team that defines how the world eats, there is no better time to join us.
About the Role
The Afresh Intelligence team is responsible for the development and performance of AI/ML models that power our core replenishment technology. Our models are directly responsible for ordering millions of dollars of fresh inventory across the world every day. Fresh food ordering is an extremely complex high-dimensional decision-making problem, and we face the complex challenges presented by decaying product, uncertain shelf lives, varying consumer demand, stochastic arrival times, extreme weather events, and tight performance constraints (to name a few). We tackle these problems with a mix of machine learning, large-scale simulation, and optimization technologies.
We are looking for a Staff Applied Scientist to lead R&D work at Afresh. You will take your existing knowledge of machine learning, forecasting, operations research, and stochastic optimization and apply it to the challenging and important problem of perishable inventory control. You will research, implement, and rigorously validate improvements to our core replenishment system. This will include modeling consumer demand, item-level perishability, and complex multi-echelon supply chains. Your work will be visible from day one, will make a substantial impact on decreasing food waste, and will lead to fresher, healthier produce for millions of people across the world.
What You’ll Do
Set technical direction for core replenishment R&D — define the modeling roadmap across demand forecasting, inventory optimization, and decision-making policy, and align it with product and business strategy.
Model complex problems such as inventory decay, promotions, price elasticity, and inventory uncertainty, and implement solutions to multi-stage and multi-echelon inventory optimization problems.
Drive fundamental changes to our core system from research through production, writing rigorously tested and scalable code — we are not an analytics team.
Lead research and development for new product and business challenges.
Raise the technical bar across the Intelligence team: mentor scientists and engineers, set standards for experimental rigor, and review designs and results.
Push the boundaries of AI capabilities in both products and scientist workflows.
What Makes You a Great Fit
MS or PhD in Operations Research, Industrial Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or another quantitative field, or equivalent practical experience.
For candidates with an MS, 8+ years of industry experience; for candidates with a PhD, 4+ years of industry experience.
Experience researching and building systems that support large-scale decision making under uncertainty.
Prior experience in areas such as inventory optimization, supply chain management, network optimization, forecasting, game theory, decision analysis, stochastic optimization, approximate dynamic programming, or related fields is a plus.
Excellent communication and presentation skills. You should be able to explain complex mathematical ideas to product teams in plain English and easily translate business requirements into constrained optimization problems.
Ability to independently deliver high quality software implementations of your solutions in the Python data stack (numpy/torch/pandas/etc). Prior experience with Python is not required.
Nice to Have skills: understanding of ML Platform and a passion for mentorship
This position is not eligible for company sponsorship.

OMB Control Number 1250-0005
Expires 07/31/2029
Why are you being asked to complete this form?
We are a federal contractor or subcontractor. The law requires us to provide equal employment opportunity to qualified people with disabilities. We have a goal of having at least 7% of our workers as people with disabilities. The law says we must measure our progress towards this goal. To do this, we must ask applicants and employees if they have a disability or have ever had one. People can become disabled, so we need to ask this question at least every five years.
Completing this form is voluntary, and we hope that you will choose to do so. Your answer is confidential. No one who makes hiring decisions will see it. Your decision to complete the form and your answer will not harm you in any way. If you want to learn more about the law or this form, visit the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) website at www.dol.gov/ofccp.
How do you know if you have a disability?
A disability is a condition that substantially limits one or more of your “major life activities.” If you have or have ever had such a condition, you are a person with a disability. Disabilities include, but are not limited to:
Alcohol or other substance use disorder (not currently using drugs illegally)
Autoimmune disorder, for example, lupus, fibromyalgia, rheumatoid arthritis, HIV/AIDS
Blind or low vision
Cancer (past or present)
Cardiovascular or heart disease
Celiac disease
