ClassDojo's goal is to give every child on Earth an education they love.
We started by building a powerful network for communication. ClassDojo’s flagship app is the #1 communication app connecting K-12 teachers, children, and families globally. Teachers use it to share what’s happening throughout the day through photos, videos, and messages that make parents feel like they’re there. It’s actively used in over 95% of US schools, reaching over 45 million children in 180 countries, with a team of just around 200 people [1]. We are now beginning to use this network to give kids the best learning experiences in the world, far beyond those a standard school can provide.
We hire for talent density. Our team comprises the most talented, entrepreneurial, and innovative teammates from around the world, with experience in education and large scale consumer internet companies, including Instagram, Netflix, Dropbox, Stripe, Uber, Y Combinator, and more. We’re building a company where the most talented people want to work. We believe you’ll do the best work of your life here—and you’ll pioneer the future of education, too.
ABOUT THE ROLE:
We’ve begun testing Tutor with school districts through initial pilots and are laying the foundation for a much larger business. We’re looking for an experienced sales leader to take end-to-end ownership of turning that opportunity into a significant growth engine.
This is an unusual opportunity to build a new business without truly starting from zero. You’ll have the ownership and autonomy of an early-stage business while building on ClassDojo’s existing reach, network, and relationships across U.S. schools and districts.
As our Tutor Districts Sales Lead, you’ll determine how we go to market, personally build relationships and win district business, develop a repeatable sales playbook, and use what you learn from district leaders to help shape Tutor itself. Your success means significant new revenue for ClassDojo, greater reach and impact for Tutor, and a new growth engine around a core company priority.
Initially, this is a hands-on builder and seller role—not a job managing an established sales organization. As the business succeeds and scales, there may be an opportunity to build and lead the team around it.
WHAT YOU’LL DO:
- Build Tutor’s district sales business from minimal revenue to millions of dollars in annual revenue, and establish the foundation for continued year-over-year growth.
- Own the complete district sales cycle, from identifying and opening opportunities through executive engagement, RFPs, procurement, negotiation, and signed contracts.
- Determine which districts and segments to prioritize and develop the strategy for reaching and winning them.
- Build and continuously improve Tutor’s district sales playbook, including ICP, positioning, qualification, sales stages, and approaches to navigating district buying processes.
- Develop a qualified, measurable pipeline that gives the team increasing confidence in future revenue.
- Build and deepen relationships with district decision-makers.
- Bring high-quality market insight into Tutor, identifying the customer needs and product opportunities most likely to unlock meaningful, scalable district growth.
- Partner closely with Product and the broader Tutor team to turn customer learning into better decisions.
- Establish the systems, processes, and communication rhythms needed to run the business effectively as it grows.
YOU WILL BE A MATCH IF:
- You've directly sold tutoring services to US school districts. This is the anchor of the role — we're looking for someone who knows this specific buyer, procurement process, and value story from the inside.
- You've closed real, named district business as primary seller. Scale matters less than whether the wins were yours to drive. If you've closed a handful of districts and built the motion yourself, we want to hear that story — even if you're not yet an obvious "seven-figure closer" on paper.
- You have real relationships with district decision-makers — CAOs, curriculum leads, and academic services. Whether those came from years of enterprise selling or from a school-by-school entry motion that earned you access up the org, both paths count.
- You understand how districts actually buy — RFPs, procurement cycles, budget calendars, and how a deal moves from a champion at one school to a system-wide contract.
- You understand how districts actually buy — RFPs, procurement cycles, budget calendars, and how a deal moves from a champion at one school to a system-wide contract.
- You have built a sales motion in an ambiguous or early-stage environment rather than only operating within a mature sales organization.
- You’re energized by being a hands-on builder and seller and don’t need a large team or established infrastructure to create momentum.
- You use customer insight strategically and know how to distinguish high-value, repeatable market needs from individual feature requests.
- You communicate clearly, manage complex work reliably, and influence cross-functional partners without relying on formal authority.
- You’re highly accountable for measurable outcomes and comfortable changing your approach when the evidence says you should.
GROWTH OPPORTUNITY:
This role begins as a highly hands-on builder and individual contributor. If Tutor’s district business scales successfully, there may be an opportunity to build and lead a broader district sales organization.

We’re building a company where the most talented people want to work. We believe you’ll do the best work of your life here—and you’ll pioneer the future of education, too.
About the role
We're hiring a Trust & Safety Lead to handle the most sensitive issues coming from our community: parents, teachers, tutors, school leaders, kids, and sometimes government bodies. As we scale multiple products to more families than ever, this role makes sure every one of those interactions is handled with care, speed, and good judgment.
This is a small team where your ideas will shape how we protect kids online. You'll lead a queue of specialists, build the policies and playbooks that guide our response to hard situations, and partner closely with product, legal, and leadership to reduce risk and improve trust for millions of families.
What you’ll do:
Lead the Trust and Safety program and a team of specialists who respond to escalated support tickets accurately and on time, across our full range of products
Evolve the Trust & Safety framework at Dojo alongside product and engineering, and land the policies, playbooks, and standard operating procedures that make it real
Identify patterns from tickets and turn them into product, process, and policy improvements
Uplevel our team through better training materials, updated help center content, and thoughtful onboarding of new team members as we scale
Partner with legal, product, and leadership to respond to sensitive incidents, including running post-mortems that lead to shipped improvements
You will be a match if:
You have 7+ years leading Trust & Safety, Risk Operations, Integrity Operations, or related functions at a consumer technology platform.
You have significant experience responding to escalated customer requests in a fast-growing environment, using tools like Zendesk
You've previously led a Trust & Safety function at a consumer tech platform, including building policies, managing a queue of work, standing up new capabilities, and partnering with vendors
You've triaged incident types no one had seen before, and then documented and trained others on the new protocol
You've communicated about sensitive incidents to legal, product, and company leadership with clarity and calm
You write and speak with empathy, precision, and warmth, and are comfortable with subject matter that's emotionally heavy
You manage your own schedule, follow through without being chased, and thrive in a fast-moving company with high expectations
You might be a good fit if:
You've previously worked on child safety issues as a social worker, teacher, or member of law enforcement
You've owned government partnerships or engaged directly with regulators
You're familiar with COPPA and other privacy frameworks that shape how kids' platforms operate
You've worked with no-code tools like Zapier, OneTrust, or Airtable to build lightweight workflows

Founding Senior Software Engineer, Developer Experience team
ClassDojo's goal is to give every child on Earth an education they love.
We started by building a powerful network for communication. ClassDojo’s flagship app is the #1 communication app connecting K-12 teachers, children, and families globally. Teachers use it to share what’s happening throughout the day through photos, videos, and messages that make parents feel like they’re there.
Every feature ClassDojo ships begins with an engineer. Every minute an engineer spends waiting on builds, troubleshooting local environments, repeating manual workflows, or navigating unnecessary complexity is a minute they aren't building magical experiences for children, teachers, and families. Developer Experience Engineering exists to remove that friction.
As a Senior Software Engineer, Developer Experience, you'll build the tools, workflows, and AI-powered developer experiences that make every engineer at ClassDojo more effective.
This is a unique opportunity to join a newly formed Developer Experience Engineering team and help define what great developer experience looks like at ClassDojo. Rather than inheriting a mature platform, you'll help shape its foundations—partnering closely with engineers across the company to identify opportunities, build high-leverage solutions, and establish trusted paved paths that make shipping software faster, safer, and more enjoyable.
We're looking for someone who combines exceptional software engineering with product thinking. You'll treat engineers as customers, build products they'll genuinely enjoy using, and focus relentlessly on creating leverage across the engineering organization.
What You’ll Do:
Build products for engineers: Design and build internal platforms, tooling, and developer workflows that improve the experience of developing, testing, reviewing, deploying, and operating software.
Multiply engineering productivity: Identify opportunities where thoughtful platform investments create outsized impact across the engineering organization. Continuously reduce developer friction while improving engineering velocity, quality, and reliability.
Help shape AI-native software development: Build practical AI-powered workflows that help engineers write, review, test, and ship software more effectively. Evaluate emerging technologies thoughtfully and help establish patterns that improve outcomes while maintaining security, reliability, and engineering quality.
Partner deeply across engineering: Work closely with product engineering, infrastructure, security, and technical leaders to understand pain points, prioritize opportunities, and build platform capabilities that solve real problems.
Create trusted paved paths: Build reusable tools, automation, documentation, and self-service capabilities that become the preferred way engineers work because they're intuitive, reliable, and genuinely useful.
Measure impact: Use engineering metrics, developer feedback, and adoption data to continuously improve the developer experience. Focus on meaningful outcomes rather than activity metrics.
Help build Developer Experience Engineering: As an early member of the team, contribute to technical direction, engineering standards, and the long-term evolution of Developer Experience Engineering at ClassDojo.
You’ll Be A Match If You:
Have extensive experience (7-10+ years) building production software in modern engineering organizations.
Enjoy solving organization-wide engineering problems rather than only product-specific challenges.
Think like a product engineer even when building internal platforms.
Demonstrate strong technical judgment and know when to build, simplify, automate, or adopt existing solutions.
Thrive in ambiguity and are excited by the opportunity to help build a new Platform Engineering team.
Build trust through partnership and influence rather than organizational authority.
Care deeply about engineering craftsmanship, maintainability, and long-term platform health.
Approach AI as a practical tool for improving engineering effectiveness rather than an end in itself.
Measure success through the impact your work has on other engineers.
Nice to Have Experiences:
Developer Experience or Platform Engineering teams.
Internal developer platforms or engineering productivity initiatives.
CI/CD, release engineering, developer environments, or software delivery systems.
AI-assisted software development or developer tooling.
Engineering productivity measurement frameworks such as DORA or SPACE.
High-growth engineering organizations where platform investments had organization-wide impact.
Developer Experience Engineering is a force multiplier for the entire organization.
Every improvement you make has the potential to help engineers build better software, move faster with greater confidence, and spend more of their time focused on creating meaningful experiences for children, teachers, and families.
If you're energized by solving hard technical problems, building products for engineers, and creating systems that make everyone around you more effective, we'd love to meet you.

Engineering Leader, Platform Engineering
ClassDojo · San Francisco, California, United States
ClassDojo's goal is to give every child on Earth an education they love.
We started by building a communication network that connects teachers, children, and families. Today, ClassDojo is used in the vast majority of U.S. schools and reaches tens of millions of children and families globally. We're now expanding beyond communication into building the best possible learning experiences for kids everywhere.
We're a small, high-talent-density team with experience from leading technology companies. We value ownership, speed, and thoughtful decision-making, and we aim to create an environment where people can do the best work of their careers.
We're hiring an Engineering Leader to own ClassDojo's Platform engineering org end-to-end for infrastructure, data, developer experience, and AI tooling.
As the Engineering Lead for Platform, you'll manage the engineering managers across these teams as well as perform the EM role for teams when needed. You’ll work with our product engineering areas as your customers, set platform engineering practices and quality, and make the build-vs-buy and architecture trade-offs that shape how every engineer at ClassDojo ships.
This is a manager-of-managers role with real architectural and strategic ownership. You'll have 2 to 4 engineering managers reporting in, and your work multiplies across the entire engineering org. You will be expected to set direction, not just execute on it.
What You'll Do
Lead a multi-team Platform org
Own Platform's company-level objectives and the engineering plan that delivers them.
Translate company priorities and product-engineering needs into a platform roadmap, in a way that flows both up and down.
Be responsible for build-vs-buy and architecture-level trade-offs across infrastructure, data, developer experience, and AI tooling; own the technical roadmap and how it balances against the needs of your customers.
Represent Platform and collaborate with cross-functional leadership partners and in engineering-wide leadership conversations.
Develop the engineering managers reporting to you
Coach EMs to a higher bar with clear feedback, growth plans, and direct support.
Drive AI-native development in line with ClassDojo’s engineering practices (flow-based delivery, vertical slicing, WIP discipline, Definition of Done, observability)
Address performance issues early and clearly; develop managers out of "fine" performance into great performance.
Be directive when our values, quality bar, or ways of working are at stake.
Run platform towards the long term
Treat the product engineering areas as customers: understand their needs, measure adoption and satisfaction, and prioritize accordingly.
Build paved roads and golden paths that teams want to use; earn adoption rather than mandating it.
Take accountability for SLAs/SLOs and incident response across the platform surface.
Make tech-debt and reliability trade-offs on purpose, not by accident.
Drive technical excellence across the platform
Support and drive architecture and systems design decisions across infrastructure, data, DevEx, and AI tooling; ensure systems are reliable, maintainable, and operationally ready.
Make build-vs-buy calls deliberately; avoid both not-invented-here and unmanaged sprawl.
Partner cross-functionally
Co-own the platform roadmap and quality bar with the product engineering leads who depend on you.
Partner with Security, Ops, Data, and other functions as the platform requires.
Build pragmatic interim solutions that work today and migrate cleanly as platform capabilities mature.
You Will Be a Match If You…
2+ years managing managers, with direct reports who were themselves people managers.
10+ years total in technical roles, with a strong individual-contributor era you can still draw on.
Have owned a platform, infrastructure, data, or developer-productivity area and delivered a measurable outcome (throughput, reliability, cost, or operational safety).

- Own Platform's company-level objectives and the engineering plan that delivers them.
- Translate company priorities and product-engineering needs into a platform roadmap, in a way that flows both up and down.
- Be responsible for build-vs-buy and architecture-level trade-offs across infrastructure, data, developer experience, and AI tooling; own the technical roadmap and how it balances against the needs of your customers.
- Represent Platform and collaborate with cross-functional leadership partners and in engineering-wide leadership conversations.
Develop the engineering managers reporting to you
- Coach EMs to a higher bar with clear feedback, growth plans, and direct support.
- Drive AI-native development in line with ClassDojo’s engineering practices (flow-based delivery, vertical slicing, WIP discipline, Definition of Done, observability)
- Address performance issues early and clearly; develop managers out of "fine" performance into great performance.
- Be directive when our values, quality bar, or ways of working are at stake.
Run platform towards the long term
- Treat the product engineering areas as customers: understand their needs, measure adoption and satisfaction, and prioritize accordingly.
- Build paved roads and golden paths that teams want to use; earn adoption rather than mandating it.
- Take accountability for SLAs/SLOs and incident response across the platform surface.
- Make tech-debt and reliability trade-offs on purpose, not by accident.
Drive technical excellence across the platform
- Support and drive architecture and systems design decisions across infrastructure, data, DevEx, and AI tooling; ensure systems are reliable, maintainable, and operationally ready.
- Make build-vs-buy calls deliberately; avoid both not-invented-here and unmanaged sprawl.
Partner cross-functionally
- Co-own the platform roadmap and quality bar with the product engineering leads who depend on you.
- Partner with Security, Ops, Data, and other functions as the platform requires.
- Build pragmatic interim solutions that work today and migrate cleanly as platform capabilities mature.
YOU WILL BE A MATCH IF YOU…
- 2+ years managing managers, with direct reports who were themselves people managers.
- 10+ years total in technical roles, with a strong individual-contributor era you can still draw on.
- Have owned a platform, infrastructure, data, or developer-productivity area and delivered a measurable outcome (throughput, reliability, cost, or operational safety).
- Have built or evolved platform engineering practices across multiple teams, not just within one, and earned adoption.
- Have hired, developed, and managed engineering managers.
- Comfortable making and defending build-vs-buy and architecture-level trade-offs across the platform surface; can still reason about code with taste.
- Embrace Candor > Harmony: give the hard message early, comfortable with disagreement.
- Use LLM-based tools daily and push your teams to adopt them.
- Are an excellent written communicator; can articulate strategy and trade-offs clearly in writing.

About ClassDojo & Dojo Islands
Monsterverse is our virtual world for kids. Dojo Islands is where they build, play, and connect with classmates and friends.
The limit on growth has flipped. Revenue isn't it anymore; the size of the Islands user base is. 10M+ kids receive class points each week, and most have never installed the app.
What you’ll do:
We're hiring a product leader for the Monsterverse to own kid growth — growing kid users of Dojo Islands. This means running the product team that owns top-of-funnel growth for Dojo Islands and driving the cross-company roadmap to grow Monthly Active Kids (our core company metric is Monthly Active Connected Families, where families are Parents and/or Kids). You'll work closely with our co-founders, leaders, and cross-functional teams to invent and test long-term ideas, at both a strategic and tactical level.
The kid growth funnel end-to-end: awareness, install, activation, and early retention for Dojo Islands
The cross-company roadmap for Monthly Active Kids, coordinating across the flagship app, school network, and Islands
A small, high-leverage product team — setting direction, shipping fast, and learning faster
A direct working relationship with co-founders on long-term growth strategy
You will be a match if:
You've owned a top-line growth metric end-to-end. You've led initiatives that measurably moved DAU/WAU, install conversion, or retention on a consumer product. You can clearly articulate before → after.
You have gaming and/or kid-product experience — or a close equivalent. You've shipped at scale in games, social, or gamified products. You've lived in the activation and retention trenches and know how to find the fun.
You operate at both the strategic and the detail level. You drive a cross-org roadmap and write your own SQL. You set direction, then go get into the details.
You're self-sufficient with data. You can write queries, build dashboards, and analyze funnels without dedicated support.
You're a structured problem-solver in ambiguity. You break complex problems down, synthesize quant and qual, and produce simple, actionable plans.
AI is core to how you work, not a side tool. You've built it into your product process and your own workflow. We'll probe on this — it's important to us.
You might be a good fit if:
Founder or early-stage startup experience (pre-Series B). Operating in the $1M–$10M revenue phase builds the right reflexes.
Experience with kids' products, consumer social, or platforms with T&S / trust and safety considerations.
Experience with cross-functional growth loops — viral mechanics, referral systems, or in-product distribution.
Bonus:
