Meet Fetch Engineering
At Fetch, engineering is grounded in ownership, agility, and purposeful innovation. Our engineers thrive in complexity, navigating ambiguity with curiosity, data, and critical thinking. We foster a culture where high technical standards, practical decision-making, and cross-functional collaboration drive tangible impact. You’ll join a team of builders who empower one another to push boundaries and grow continuously. While Fetch may not be the ideal environment for everyone, it’s a rewarding place for those energized by challenging systems, evolving products, and solving problems that matter at scale.
About the Role
We are looking for an Android Software Engineer to help build and maintain a world-class mobile experience for Fetch. In this role, you will work directly with our backend services and external partners to deliver high-quality, engaging gameplay and rewards features. You’ll collaborate on a small, cross-functional team that may include other engineers, a designer, product manager, data scientist, and other roles. Success in this role requires the ability to tackle complex technical challenges and design and develop polished, user-centric solutions that delight our users.
You’ll be part of a cutting-edge Android team operating on a modern, 150+ module architecture built with the latest Android best practices. Our stack includes Kotlin 2.X, 95% Jetpack Compose UI, MVVM with Hilt for dependency injection, and tooling like Gradle convention plugins, KSP, and Room. We optimize build performance with remote caches and CI pipelines powered by Bitrise.
What You’ll Do
- Build and maintain Android features that support Fetch Play gameplay and rewards, collaborating with backend teams and partners to create high-quality user experiences.
- Integrate with partner APIs and marketing tech systems, ensuring rewards attribution is accurate and reliable.
- Optimize shoppability flows for performance and ease of use, reducing friction from product discovery through to purchase planning.
- Collaborate with product and design to ensure users can quickly find and activate offers most relevant to them.
- Monitor and improve engagement metrics, helping the team track how features drive user adoption and rewards redemption.
- Work across backend, data, and marketing tech teams to bring new partner integrations and e-commerce capabilities into the app.
Minimum Qualifications
- 2+ years of hands-on experience developing and releasing Android applications.
- Strong command of Android fundamentals and modern tools/libraries (Kotlin, Jetpack, Coroutines, Compose).
- Demonstrated experience with unit testing and UI testing frameworks (JUnit, Espresso, Compose Testing), with a focus on delivering reliable, maintainable code.
- Experience with dependency injection frameworks (Hilt, Dagger, or similar).
- Hands-on experience with Room or equivalent local persistence solutions.
- Exposure to and ability to contribute to architecture, modularization, and component design in a large codebase.
- Demonstrated success working within cross-functional teams to ship impactful, user-focused features.
- Strong skills in debugging, profiling, and performance tuning.
- Effective communicator with experience aligning technical work with product goals.
- A collaborative mindset; experience working with team-based development is essential.
- Comfort navigating ambiguity, proposing paths forward, and driving toward outcomes.
- An AI-forward mentality to explore and apply the latest tools that improve engineering efficiency.
Nice-to-Haves
- Experience working in large, multi-module codebases with scalable architectures.
- Familiarity with build tooling (Gradle convention plugins, KSP) or contributing to CI/CD pipelines (Bitrise or similar).
- Background building mobile features in rewards, e-commerce, or marketing attribution domains.
- Familiarity with geospatial or mapping functionality in mobile apps.
- Generalist engineering experience, including backend or cross-platform development.
- Engagement in open-source ecosystems or collaborative development communities.

About the Role:
Fetch is building the world’s most rewarding shopping experience, helping millions of consumers turn everyday purchases into value. As our platform grows, protecting the integrity of our ecosystem is critical to maintaining trust with users, partners, and the business.
The Trust & Safety Detection & Intelligence team is responsible for identifying, investigating, and disrupting fraud, abuse, and other threats across Fetch’s platform. This team combines investigative rigor, data-driven analysis, detection development, automation, and cross-functional strategy to understand emerging risks and drive scalable anti-abuse solutions.
As the Director, Trust & Safety Detection & Intelligence, you will lead the strategy, operating model, and execution systems for Fetch’s core fraud detection and threat intelligence function. You will be accountable for how Fetch detects emerging abuse, investigates complex threat activity, prioritizes risk, develops durable controls, and translates intelligence into product, policy, operational, and enforcement improvements.
You will partner with senior leaders across Product, Engineering, Data Science, Operations, Legal, Policy, GTM, Revenue, and other Trust & Safety functions to ensure Fetch can identify and respond to sophisticated abuse patterns with speed, accuracy, and strategic clarity. This role is ideal for a leader who can scale high-performing teams, build durable detection and intelligence systems, and influence company-level decisions that protect Fetch’s users, partners, and platform trust.
Role Responsibilities:
- Lead the Trust & Safety Detection & Intelligence function, setting strategy, priorities, operating rhythms, success metrics, resource plans, and quality standards.
- Build scalable systems to identify, assess, and respond to fraud, abuse, coordinated activity, policy evasion, incentive manipulation, account abuse, and emerging threats.
- Own the detection rules layer and the binding fraud determination, setting and prioritizing detection and ML requirements and deciding whether observed behavior constitutes fraud or abuse.
- Connect detection and intelligence priorities to business outcomes, including rewards economics, revenue integrity, partner trust, user trust, enforcement quality, and the safe scalability of Fetch's platform.
- Drive the development and continuous improvement of detection logic, dashboards, analytical methods, automation, and analyst workflows to improve coverage, precision, and speed, applying machine learning and automation to signal discovery, triage, detection quality, and analyst productivity where it measurably improves outcomes and validating accuracy before any enforcement is automated.
- Oversee complex investigations and intelligence programs that produce actionable findings and executive-ready risk assessments, and partner across Product, Engineering, Data Science, Operations, Legal, Policy, Product Risk, and Partner Integrity to translate them into durable product, policy, operational, and enforcement improvements.
- Establish performance measures for detection quality, investigation outcomes, enforcement impact, detection lag, operational health, and residual risk, and develop senior analysts, investigators, and future leaders against high standards for rigor, documentation, decision-making, and escalation.
- Partner across Product, Engineering, Data Science, Operations, Legal, Policy, Product Risk, and Partner Integrity to translate intelligence into durable product, policy, operational, and enforcement improvements.
- Develop senior analysts, investigators, and future leaders while establishing high standards for investigative rigor, documentation, decision-making, escalation, and stakeholder communication.
Minimum Requirements:
- 10+ years of experience in fraud detection, investigations, threat intelligence, trust & safety, risk operations, cybersecurity, data analysis, or a related field, including leadership of complex programs with measurable business impact.
- 5+ years of people leadership experience managing senior analysts, investigators, technical ICs, or operational teams and developing high-performing leaders.
- Proven experience building or scaling detection and intelligence operating models, workflows, quality standards, reporting systems, and performance metrics.
- Strong analytical and technical fluency with large datasets, dashboards, SQL or SQL-like querying, case management and detection systems, and analytical tooling, including designing, writing, testing, tuning, and evaluating fraud rules or other detection logic.
- Track record of partnering across Product, Engineering, Data Science, Operations, Legal, Policy, and business teams to deliver scalable anti-abuse or risk mitigation solutions.
- Strong executive communication and judgment, with the ability to define ambiguous problems, align stakeholders, explain risk tradeoffs, and recommend clear action.
Preferred Requirements:
- Leadership experience in fraud detection, threat intelligence, marketplace integrity, payments risk, loyalty or rewards abuse, cybersecurity, or a related risk domain.
- Experience building detection systems, investigative workflows, escalation frameworks, automation, or operational playbooks in a scaled environment.
- Familiarity with rules-based detection, Python, graph analysis, anomaly detection, machine learning-assisted workflows, or similar analytical methods.
- Track record of identifying emerging abuse patterns early and translating intelligence into product, policy, operational, partner, or enforcement improvements.
- Experience influencing senior leaders and balancing investigative depth, operational speed, enforcement quality, user trust, partner impact, and business objectives.
- Experience with capacity planning, roadmap prioritization, tooling investment, or budget ownership for a growing function.
