Geotechnical Engineer
About Fluidstack
We exist to make humanity more free. For most of human history, you farmed or you starved. Technology gave people more time for the things they wanted to do, instead of things they had to do. Powerful AI will be the biggest lever for human choice we've ever built - but only if models are aligned with what humanity actually wants. There are groups building AI who don't share these goals. Whoever deploys frontier compute infrastructure fastest will decide whether AI expands human freedom or shrinks it.
We're singularly focused on delivering 10 to 100s of GWs of compute faster than anyone else, rethinking every layer of the stack. We acquire power, design and build data centers, and operate them - with teams spanning hardware and software. Speed and scale are our key differentiators. Come be a part of building civilization-scale infrastructure for AI.
We hire people who care deeply about this problem space. If that is you, please apply!
How We Operate
Extreme ownership. Full autonomy. Own things end to end often taking on scope outside your core role without being asked to get things done.
Velocity. We drive everything forward as fast as possible.
First principles. Challenge every assumption. Zero analogy thinking, no egos, the best idea wins.
Love of the game. The frontier of AI is the most interesting problem of our time. We put in long hours at high intensity to push the frontier forward.
The Data Center Design Team
Examples of key problems the team is working on
Lead the design, development, and execution of 10s to 100s of GWs of data centers this decade.
Drive the next generation of liquid cooling and electrical distribution systems.
Develop and scale first-of-a-kind modular data centers.
Influence behind-the-meter designs and planning for multi-GW campuses.
Role Scope
Own the geotechnical workstream across a multi-site, multi-state development portfolio, from early site screening through foundation design and construction support.
Scope and direct subsurface investigation programs: write geotechnical RFPs, manage boring and CPT campaigns and lab testing, and drive external geotechnical consultants from scope through final report.
Interpret subsurface data into design parameters and assign foundation systems, working directly with Structural on bearing capacity, settlement, expansive and collapsible soils, liquefaction, seismic site class, shallow versus deep foundations, and ground improvement (rigid inclusions, piles, surcharge or preload).
Set site earthwork and grading strategy with Civil: cut and fill balance, deep-fill and differential-settlement risk to pads, MV duct banks, substations, and roads, and the call between regrade, preload, and ground improvement.
Run geotechnical fatal-flaw screening during site selection and due diligence, catching karst, mine subsidence, abandoned oil and gas wells, uncontrolled fill, high groundwater, and expansive clay before they reach signing or schedule.
Coordinate with Environmental on groundwater, contamination, and Phase II findings that drive subsurface and foundation decisions, and manage geotechnical deliverables to protect IFC and construction dates.
What We're Looking For
The below is a starting point. We always make space for exceptional people, so if you don’t fit this role exactly, .
You've owned geotechnical engineering on large-scale site development, scoping boring programs and turning subsurface data into foundation design parameters.
You've made the foundation and ground-improvement call on difficult sites: deep fill, expansive clay, high groundwater, liquefaction, choosing among shallow foundations, piles, rigid inclusions, and surcharge.
You've directed external geotechnical consultants and labs from RFP through final report, and caught errors before they reached design or construction.
You've screened sites for geotechnical fatal flaws during due diligence and either killed or saved a site on the data.
You read a geotechnical report well enough to assign design actions and challenge a consultant's recommendations rather than rubber-stamp them.
You work shoulder to shoulder with structural, civil, and environmental engineers and translate subsurface conditions into grading, drainage, and foundation decisions without stalling the schedule.
Bonus: PE or GE license, or active pursuit. Data center, industrial, or heavy-civil site development. Deep foundation and ground-improvement design. Seismic site response. Multi-state experience.
Offers equity in the form of stock options.
We are committed to pay equity and transparency.

The Finance Team
Build and scale the tax function from scratch, across multiple international and state jurisdictions, before the company outgrows it. Entities, sites, and cross-border structures are multiplying faster than any tax playbook can keep up. The function, from income tax reporting to sales and use tax compliance on gigawatts of electricity and compute to the international structure holding it together, must be correctly built and efficiently scaled the first time around.
Own the full range of tax disciplines at a scale most practitioners never reach. Federal, international, state and local, and equity comp all converge on one business growing faster than the guidance anticipated. Reporting and first-principles work across every discipline must be accurate and timely.
Put tax on the critical path for hundreds of billions in capital. The financings and JVs powering 10s to 100s of GWs turn on partnership allocations, basis step-ups, withholding, and incentive credits that have to close in lockstep with capital and gigawatts coming online. Deals must be structured correctly and efficiently, not cleaned up after the fact.
Role Scope
Lead the quarterly and annual global income tax provision under ASC 740, calculating effective tax rate, deferred taxes, valuation allowances, and uncertain tax positions.
Prepare and review public-filings ready tax footnotes and disclosures, and reconcile return-to-provision differences across every tax account.
Oversee U.S. federal, state, international income tax, and indirect tax compliance, managing external tax providers and global advisors across multiple operating entities.
Own SOX internal controls over tax reporting and lead the company's response to IRS and state and local tax authority examinations and information requests.
Partner with FP&A and Treasury to forecast cash taxes and model the tax impact of strategic business decisions.
Oversee and streamline the global and state and local indirect tax compliance process.
What We're Looking For
The below is a starting point. We always make space for exceptional people, so if you don't fit this role exactly, tell us where you would.
You've built your 10+ year tax career inside a Big 4 firm or a large multinational corporate tax department, where you owned the technical work rather than just reviewing it.
You are a Certified Public Accountant.
You've personally run ASC 740 income tax provisions end to end, including effective tax rate, deferred tax, valuation allowance, and uncertain tax position calculations, under audit scrutiny.
You've prepared tax disclosures that made it into a filed 10-K or 10-Q and held up under external audit review.
You've led a tax authority examination, IRS or state and local, from the first information request through resolution.
You've managed SOX controls over a tax function and can point to specific controls you personally designed or remediated.
Bonus: Master's in Taxation. Large ERP experience (NetSuite, SAP, Oracle). Indirect tax expertise. Hands-on tax automation or technology implementation. Experience mentoring or building out a tax team.
We are committed to pay equity and transparency.

The Finance Team
Build Fluidstack's entire FP&A function from zero, fast enough to keep pace with one of the fastest-growing infrastructure companies in AI. No inherited process, no legacy model. You'll stand up the annual operating plan, forecasting cadence, and long-range financial model across every business unit and geography while the company is still moving too fast to wait for it.
Turn gigawatt-scale operational complexity into a financial story the board and investors can act on. Capital allocation and growth investment decisions run through your numbers, and as Fluidstack moves toward IPO readiness, the reporting bar goes from "good enough for a private company" to public-company grade.
Own the P&L bridge end to end, across Engineering, Operations, Sales, and Finance. Nobody hands you clean numbers. You build the systems (NetSuite integration, KPI dashboards, real-time performance visibility) that make variance analysis and business partnership possible at a company scaling this fast.
Role Scope
Build and maintain the annual operating plan and quarterly forecast models across business units, consolidating inputs from Engineering, Operations, and Sales into a single set of numbers leadership can act on.
Contribute to monthly variance analysis and the P&L bridge, tracing where actuals diverge from plan down to the specific line item before it becomes a surprise in a leadership review.
Build financial models and scenario analyses that pressure-test capital allocation and growth investment decisions alongside the FP&A leadership team.
Maintain KPI frameworks and financial performance dashboards, pulling and reconciling data from NetSuite and other systems so leadership has real-time visibility into business health.
Prepare board and investor reporting materials, turning complex operational data into a clear financial narrative.
What We're Looking For
The below is a starting point. We always make space for exceptional people, so if you don't fit this role exactly, .
You've built three-statement financial model forecasts and can walk someone through every assumption without hesitation.
You have strong financial acumen and can write and present numbers clearly enough that a non-finance stakeholder gets the takeaway in one read.
You move fast in Excel or Google Sheets, comfortable building or updating a model under a same-day deadline rather than polishing one indefinitely.
Bonus: Experience in the data center, infrastructure, AI/ML, or other capital-intensive sectors. Pigment experience.
Salary & Benefits
Competitive total compensation package (salary + equity).
Retirement or pension plan, in line with local norms.
Health, dental, and vision insurance.
Generous PTO policy, in line with local norms.
Total compensation may also include equity in the form of stock options.
We are committed to pay equity and transparency.

The Logistics Team
Examples of key problems the team is working on
Decide what happens next to every piece of material before it leaves the dock. Every part is staged onsite, an hour out, or twelve hours out, and getting that call wrong stalls a build or burns money on space nobody needed. You will build the disposition strategy that makes that call for every material category, at every site.
Replace outsourced warehousing with a network we own. Fluidstack is exiting third-party logistics warehousing entirely and standing up its own facilities and processes in its place, at the pace the build requires.
-
Build the systems from scratch instead of inheriting someone else's. No commercial platform anticipates a gigawatt-scale, multi-site build, so you will help build and integrate the warehouse, inventory, and transportation management systems that run it, wired together instead of stitched with workarounds.
Role Scope
Design pick, pack, receiving, and RMA workflows for each site's warehouse layout, optimizing for travel distance, throughput, and dock-to-floor time.
Run time and motion studies on warehouse and dock processes, and use the data to set the standard work each site trains against.
Model rack, dock door, and staging layouts for new and existing sites, balancing throughput against real estate cost.
Build the process documentation and standard work instructions that let a new site ramp to full productivity in weeks, not months.
-
Partner with the WMS and IMS system build teams to make sure new tooling matches the physical workflow, not the other way around.
What We're Looking For
The below is a starting point. We always make space for exceptional people, so if you don't fit this role exactly, tell us where you would.
You've designed or re-designed a warehouse layout and can point to the throughput or cost improvement it produced.
You've run a time and motion study and turned it into a standard work instruction that a new hire could follow on day one.
You've modeled dock, rack, or staging capacity against real operational data, not rule-of-thumb assumptions.
You've partnered with a systems team to make sure new software matched a real physical process instead of forcing the process to bend to the software.
You get to a site, watch how work actually happens, and find the waste that nobody built a report to catch.
-
Bonus: Lean Six Sigma or industrial engineering background. Experience in data center, manufacturing, or high-throughput distribution environments. Familiarity with warehouse simulation or layout modeling tools.
Salary & Benefits
Competitive total compensation package (salary + equity).
Retirement or pension plan, in line with local norms.
Health, dental, and vision insurance.

The Security Team
Examples of key problems the team is working on
You’re securing the frontier of AI. The model weights training on our infrastructure are the most valuable and most targeted artifacts in technology, and we’re standing up the compute to hold them faster than anyone ever has. A breach isn’t a leak, it’s the frontier walking out the door.
Build the entire security program from scratch. Most leaders inherit someone else’s system and spend a career patching it. Here you own it end to end, bare metal to boardroom, as we scale across continents.
Your threat surface is measured in gigawatts. The customers running on our infrastructure are building the most consequential technology in human history, and being responsible for the physical and logical security of that work makes everything else feel small.
Role Scope
Run the day-to-day compliance program end to end across SOC 2 Type II, ISO 27001, NIST 800-53, and FedRAMP Moderate equivalency: continuous evidence collection, control monitoring, and audit readiness held on GRC platforms (Vanta) and the tooling we build in-house.
Own the policy and procedure set: draft, maintain, and run the review cycle so documentation keeps pace with the controls as the program grows.
Run recurring control operations on cadence, access reviews, control owner attestations, and evidence refreshes, chasing system owners and employees across the org directly to get them done on time.
Drive audit and assessment cycles with external auditors and assessors and manage the POA&M to closure, tracking each finding to a named owner and milestone so nothing ages past its deadline.
Bring each new site and team into the compliance program as we scale, mapping their systems to existing controls so coverage stays consistent instead of fragmenting facility by facility.
What We’re Looking For
The below is a starting point. We always make space for exceptional people, so if you don’t fit this role exactly, .
You’ve operated controls and pulled evidence against at least one major framework (SOC 2, ISO 27001, NIST 800-53, or FedRAMP) through a real audit, not just read the policy.
You’ve owned a compliance documentation set, policies, procedures, and control narratives, and kept it current as the environment changed underneath you.
You’ve sat across from an auditor or assessor, defended how a control runs in practice, and closed findings without escalating every question upward.
You get evidence and adherence out of busy engineers, system owners, and employees across the org, on time, without a manager pushing you to do it.
You catch a stale control, an expired access grant, or a coverage gap before an assessor does, because you watch the portfolio continuously, not once a quarter.
You translate a control requirement into the exact artifact that proves it, and you keep that mapping tight across overlapping frameworks instead of collecting the same evidence twice.
Bonus: FedRAMP Moderate equivalency or NIST 800-53 evidence work. GRC platforms (Vanta) or comparable continuous-compliance tooling. Cloud, GPU, or data center environments. Mapping controls across SOC 2, ISO 27001, and NIST in parallel.
Salary & Benefits
Competitive total compensation package (salary + equity).
Retirement or pension plan, in line with local norms.
Health, dental, and vision insurance.
Generous PTO policy, in line with local norms.
Total compensation may also include equity in the form of restricted stock units.
We are committed to pay equity and transparency.

The Talent Acquisition Team
Examples of key problems the team is working on
Deploy AI across the entire funnel. Use the latest models in every part of talent ops to find the best people in the world faster than any team has before. You won't bolt AI onto old processes; you'll rebuild recruiting around it.
Treat talent as the critical path. Every role we can't fill slows the whole company down. We need to figure out how to move faster than everyone else in market without ever dropping the bar; one wrong hire costs more than a slow one.
Build a brand the best want to join. Make Fluidstack a name top talent seeks out, not one we have to chase. You'll shape how the world's best engineers and operators hear about us, and why they say yes.
Role Scope
Own hiring strategy, execution, and tracking for Fluidstack's Data Center org, building the annual delivery plan while staying hands-on closing critical searches yourself.
Lead and scale a talent acquisition function across data center operations, construction, and infrastructure business units.
Partner directly with senior hiring managers to forecast headcount, map talent needs, and align hiring strategy to business objectives.
Build, mentor, and manage a team of TA Partners, Sourcers, and Coordinators with clear direction and performance accountability.
Design hiring processes that balance speed with candidate quality, driving recruitment for hard-to-fill data center operations, controls, and infrastructure roles to high offer-acceptance rates, and own the hiring metrics and recruiting infrastructure (ATS workflows, interview rubrics, calibration) that keep the funnel healthy.
What We're Looking For
The below is a starting point. We always make space for exceptional people, so if you don't fit this role exactly, tell us where you would.
You've built and run hiring for data center operations, construction, or infrastructure orgs in a hyper-growth environment, ramping headcount without dropping the bar.
You lead a team and set strategy but stay in the work. You take the hard searches, model great execution, and don't delegate your way out of accountability.
You know the difference between competent and exceptional and won't compromise on it, for your team's hires or your own. Every hire raises the average.
You build for the year but can lead quick pivots. You anticipate hiring needs and map talent landscapes so your team never starts a critical role from zero.
You measure what matters (pipeline conversion, source quality, time-to-hire) and use it to manage performance and make decisions.
You give clear, honest feedback and build trust by being straight with your team, not easy on them.
Bonus: Recruiting in data center operations, construction, or infrastructure markets. Scaling a TA function through rapid headcount growth. Immigration and global mobility coordination. Employer brand building.

Role Scope
Own hiring strategy, execution, and tracking for Fluidstack's Software org, building the annual delivery plan while staying hands-on closing critical searches yourself.
Lead and scale a talent acquisition function across manufacturing, supply chain, and industrial operations business units.
Partner directly with senior hiring managers to forecast headcount, map talent needs, and align hiring strategy to business objectives.
Build, mentor, and manage a team of TA Partners, Sourcers, and Coordinators with clear direction and performance accountability.
Design hiring processes that balance speed with candidate quality, driving recruitment for hard-to-fill skilled trades, procurement, and supply chain roles to high offer-acceptance rates, and own the hiring metrics and recruiting infrastructure (ATS workflows, interview rubrics, calibration) that keep the funnel healthy.
What We're Looking For
The below is a starting point. We always make space for exceptional people, so if you don't fit this role exactly, tell us where you would.
You've built and run hiring for manufacturing, supply chain, or industrial operations orgs in a hyper-growth environment, ramping headcount without dropping the bar.
Bonus: Recruiting in manufacturing, industrial operations, or supply chain markets. Scaling a TA function through rapid headcount growth. Immigration and global mobility coordination. Employer brand building.

The Production Engineering Team
Examples of key exciting problems the team is working on
Make tens of thousands of GPUs legible in real time: build the observability platform that turns raw telemetry into signal, from site-level health down to individual device and link. At this scale, you cannot operate what you cannot see.
Build the control plane every team at Fluidstack depends on: replace one-off tooling with a stable, versioned API surface that covers unified machine management, actual state inspection, and distributed command execution. One interface for the whole company, not a hundred scripts.
Make the system's view of itself always match reality: integrate fleet state as a machine-readable source of truth across provisioning, operations, and customer-facing platforms, so every new site and GPU generation lands cleanly from day zero.
Role Scope
Own the observability platform. Build and operate the data pipelines, decoration and correlation engine, and healthcheck framework that make the fleet legible — from site down to device and link. No other team should need to scrape production directly to answer a question.
Define and build the API surface for infrastructure. Design the contracts between production infrastructure and every tool that touches it. All other teams at Fluidstack use your tooling to manage and operate our hyperscale fleet.
Build the production control plane. Unified machine management, actual state inspection, distributed command execution — and the Kubernetes-based infrastructure that underpins it all.
Own fleet state as source of truth. SLOs, site lifecycle state, and integration with internal infrastructure management and customer-facing operations platforms. What the system says about itself should match reality, and you're accountable when it doesn't.
-
Land new hardware into the platform cleanly. ZTP, DHCP, DNS, artifacts — every new XPU generation and site integration goes through IaaS before production.
What We're Looking For
The below is a starting point. We always make space for exceptional people, so if you don't fit this role exactly, tell us where you would.
You treat toil as a bug. If something requires a human to do it twice, you build the thing that makes it not require a human.
You design APIs that age well. You've felt the pain of a leaky abstraction at scale and you don't repeat it.
You move toward ambiguity, not away from it. You walk into the fog, build the map, and explain it to everyone else.
You learn at a steep slope. You reach real competence in an unfamiliar domain fast. We value this over existing expertise.
You carry a pager without flinching. You run the incident, write the postmortem, fix the systemic cause, and move on.
You're fluent with AI tooling. LLM APIs, MCP servers, and agentic frameworks, and you drive Claude Code, Cursor, or similar every day.
You've shipped production services that other teams depend on at scale, and you're comfortable in any language using AI coding tools.
Bonus: Distributed systems and data pipeline engineering. Time-series observability stacks (Prometheus, Thanos, VictoriaMetrics). API design and versioning at scale. Workflow and orchestration engines (Temporal, Cadence). BMC/Redfish or hardware telemetry. Go, Python, and Postgres.

The Production Engineering Team
Examples of key exciting problems the team is working on
Build the repair pipeline that keeps pace with a fleet of 10s to 100s of GWs: at our scale, a GPU failure isn't a ticket. It's a throughput problem. We're building the automation that takes a chip from fault detection through triage, RMA, and return to service without human intervention.
Qualify every new GPU generation inside a 6-month build window: our platform covers burn-in, performance baselining, and NPI execution. It has to define "production-ready" before a site goes live, not after. New hardware gets certified at speeds unheard of in the industry.
Migrate live compute at construction speed: we're converting clusters across production sites simultaneously, bringing new sites online, and making Kubernetes-orchestrated bare metal sustainable at the pace we're building – multiple GW annually.
-
See and own the entire fleet in real time, at any scale: build the observability and orchestration layer that makes hyperscale AI compute actually operable. Debug, tune, and performance-test infrastructure that grows by another site every few months.
Role Scope
Own compute fleet health end to end. Build the metrics pipelines, alerting, and unified health view that tell you the true state of every GPU in production — across Kubernetes-orchestrated workloads and bare metal, at scale.
Turn deployment/repair into a pipeline, not a procedure. Build and own the automation that takes a compute failure from detection through triage, parts management, and return to service. No one-off scripts, no heroics.
Design and expand the GPU qualification platform. Burn-in, performance baselining, and NPI execution for every new GPU generation. You define what "good" looks like before hardware goes into production.
Own Redfish and BMC tooling. Firmware-level telemetry, log collection at fleet scale, and the low-level access layer that repair automation and health tooling depend on.
-
Own end-to-end reliability, scalability, and operation of the compute fleet at-scale. Fluidstack is building one of the largest GPU fleets in the world and that can only be accomplished with aggressive automation, tooling, and incident discipline.
What We're Looking For
The below is a starting point. We always make space for exceptional people, so if you don't fit this role exactly, tell us where you would.
You treat toil as a bug. Manual steps in a repair workflow are a backlog item, not a job description.
You have an instinct for hardware. You're comfortable reasoning about failure modes at the firmware and silicon level, not just the software stack above it.
You move toward ambiguity, not away from it. You walk into the fog, build the map, and explain it to everyone else.
You learn at a steep slope. You reach real competence in an unfamiliar domain fast. We value this over existing expertise.
