The Data Center Operations Team

Role Scope

• Serve as the on-site SME for data center critical infrastructure, handling escalations across the white space and the supporting facilities.

• Understand and manage the design limitations and risks of the site, and audit colocation partners and service providers on their maintenance programs and effectiveness.

• Own the change management process for high-risk maintenance activities in the data center.

• Act as first responder on-site for incidents, driving resolution with support from engineering and infrastructure SMEs.

• Partner with colo partners, vendors, and internal teams to keep the site reliable, and feed operational learnings back into design and process.

What We're Looking For

The Development Team

Examples of key problems the team is working on

• Find enough land to deploy multiple gigawatts a week. By 2030 we need to bring on multiple gigawatts of new capacity every week, which means securing sites at a pace and scale no one in the industry has operated at. You'll own finding and locking that land ahead of the build.

• Get power online in months, not years. Most of the clock runs before the lease is ever signed. You'll optimize the pre-signature work, site diligence, permitting, and development, so a site goes from signed lease to live power in under six months.

• Acquire 10s to 100s of GWs behind the meter. Reaching that scale means generating on-site instead of waiting on grid interconnection. You'll secure the land and behind-the-meter solar generation to get there.

Role Scope

• Lead the site procurement strategy for the US data center portfolio, sourcing and evaluating powered land for large-scale development and negotiating leases with data center operators.

• Conduct site due diligence: evaluate utility and behind-the-meter power at 200MW+ scale, and assess buildability through title docs, surveys, geotechnical reports, and environmental studies.

• Understand permitting requirements at each site and their implications for the construction schedule.

• Maintain relationships with brokers, landowners, and developers so a valid site is never missed, and run vendor due diligence including on-site audits with specialist engineers.

• Work directly with DC Design to keep sites matched to the latest technical requirements, and own capacity planning and forecasting across clients and regions.

• Partner with Finance on multi-year infrastructure investment and cost structures, and lead commercial negotiations with landowners and developers.

About the Role

We are seeking a senior Protection & Controls Engineer to support protection and control design across our data center campuses - from the utility interface and HV substation through the MV distribution backbone. This is an owner-side technical leadership role: you will define Fluidstack's protection philosophy, review and approve the work of utilities, EPCs, and third-party engineering firms, and serve as the escalation point when the power system misbehaves.

You'll own the technical quality of protection schemes, relay settings, and substation automation across a rapidly scaling, gigawatt-scale portfolio, and help establish the engineering standards that will scale across dozens of sites.

Responsibilities

• Lead protection and control design for HV/MV systems across capital projects, defining relay protection functionality and schemes in accordance with Fluidstack standards and utility requirements.

• Review contractor- and consultant-provided relay settings, coordination studies, logic diagrams (including IEC 61850 GOOSE messaging), and operational descriptions prior to energization.

• Own protection coordination across the site power system - evaluating changes in fault duty and system performance as campuses grow, including settings for temporary builds and construction sequencing.

• Lead substation automation and integration design: SCADA point indexes, HMI screens, IED data maps, and substation-level operational descriptions.

• Serve as the technical escalation point for protection misoperations, fault events, and inadvertent operations - owning root cause analysis, event record review, and corrective action across the fleet.

• Provide design support through implementation, testing, and commissioning, and feed lessons learned back into Fluidstack design standards.
  

Basic Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.

• 7+ years of experience in power systems protection and control across utility, industrial, or data center environments.

• Strong working knowledge of protection coordination principles, relay settings development and review, and sequence of operations.

• Hands-on proficiency with SEL relay platforms plus at least one other major vendor (ABB Relion, Siemens Siprotec, GE, Schneider/Micom).
  

Preferred Qualifications

• Professional Engineer (PE) license or EIT certification.

• Prior experience at a hyperscale data center operator (AWS, Google, Meta, Microsoft), SEL, a major utility, or a top-tier consulting firm.

• Experience with RTAC/PLC-based automation, source transfer schemes, and DNP3.

• Experience developing or reviewing relay settings for temporary builds, construction sequencing, and mobile equipment.

• Experience with protection for BESS, on-site generation, or other inverter-based resources at the MV level.

About the role

The Data Center Project Controls lead is the central owner of the project master schedule and the delivery roadmap across FluidStack’s datacenter portfolio. This role ensures consistent, predictable execution across multiple concurrent builds of GW scale datacenter builds, by integrating design, procurement, permitting, and construction schedules into a unified enterprise-level program plan.

The project controls lead provides schedule intelligence, identifies bottlenecks, forecasts critical path risks, and supports executive decision-making for resource allocation, phasing, and capital deployment.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead regional project controls and scheduling teams; set goals and ensure progress.

• Oversee schedules (pre-construction, baseline, updates) and project controls processes.
  Manage change orders, claims, delay/productivity analyses, and dispute resolution support.

• Ensure compliance with companywide practices for budgets, scheduling, and reporting.

• Partner with Operations, Legal, and Finance on risks, claims, and recovery strategies.

• Support client interviews, Go/No-Go decisions, and bid strategies.

• Develop dashboards, KPIs, and training programs; mentor project controls staff.

• Collaborate with Estimating, VDC, Safety, and Quality for project integration.

About You

The Infrastructure Team

Examples of key problems the team is working on

• Design the physical layer AGI is trained on. ISP/OSP cable plants carry hundreds of thousands of fiber terminations per building, rail-optimized for the densest GPU fabrics ever built, at 800G today and 1.6T next.

• One design, every site. Turn the cable plant from a bespoke months-long exercise into a stamped reference architecture deployed across 10s to 100s of GWs of capacity, validated once and built everywhere.

• Design for silicon that doesn't exist yet. Every GPU generation rewrites the density, optics, and pathway math, but the plant you spec must survive three of them.

Role Scope

• Own the end-to-end physical implementation of the data center network: fiber plant architecture, transceiver planning, and structured cabling integration for hyperscale sites.

• Collaborate with CSA, MEP, and construction teams on power, cooling, space, pathways, cabinets, and racks, and develop, read, and interpret construction drawings in Bluebeam, ACC, and Procore.

• Break down DCN logical port maps (TOR, spine, super-spine, DCI) into physical cross-connect and patching schedules, and automate port-to-fiber mapping at 100K+ ports per site.

• Define cassette types (MTP/MPO Base-8/12/16), trunk counts, and structured cabling hierarchy, and model fiber utilization and overbuild for two to three hardware generations.

• Select optics (400G/800G DR4, FR4, LR4, SR8, coherent DCI) by reach and loss budget, validate interoperability across vendors and generations, and maintain loss-budget and margin models for every link type.

• Own the ICT Basis of Design, SOPs, and Division 26/27/28/33 master specifications, and integrate with DCIM (NetBox, custom tools) to track strands, ports, and patching.

What We're Looking For

The Infrastructure Team

• Generate the design, don't draw it. Topologies, addressing, BGP/ASN schemas, and golden configs produced from a source-of-truth model, a full site network design in days instead of quarters, correct by construction.

Role Scope

• Own the network design lifecycle from customer requirements (GPU shape, workload, scale, tenancy) through deployable, validated architectures for AI training and inference.

• Produce topology designs, IP/addressing schemes, routing policy, and fabric configuration specs across front-end, back-end (GPU-to-GPU training fabric), and storage networks.

• Adapt architectures to different GPU platforms (NVIDIA, AMD, custom accelerators), form factors, and workload profiles, each with its own rack layout, power envelope, and cabling approach.

• Translate logical designs into physical reality: rack elevations, power constraints, structured cabling and fiber budgets, pathway routing, and airflow that affect equipment placement.

• Design lossless Ethernet fabrics for RDMA (RoCEv2): PFC, ECN tuning, traffic classes, and congestion management, reasoning about ECMP and collective-communication patterns in distributed training.

• Produce HLDs, LLDs, cutsheets, BOMs, cabling matrices, and design decision records, and lead design reviews and reusable reference architectures.

What We're Looking For

About the Role

As a Technical Program Manager for Deployments, you will own the end-to-end program delivery required to bring data center infrastructure and AI clusters online. You will operate in a highly ambiguous environment, coordinating across construction, infrastructure, networking, systems engineering, procurement, and operations teams to ensure deployment readiness and successful go-lives.

This role requires an ownership mindset. You will be expected to move programs forward with sometimes incomplete information, surface and resolve gaps, and ensure progress across teams responsible for construction, networking, hardware, operations, and beyond. While physical installation and construction execution are owned by partner teams, you are accountable for overall delivery outcomes and are expected to fill gaps before they become blockers.

The best candidates for this role bring deep experience in the intersection of data center construction handover and AI/GPU hardware deployment, not just one or the other. You know how construction sequences impact infrastructure readiness, how ICT and CDU work intersect, and how to hold multiple workstreams accountable across time zones and organizational boundaries.

Focus

• Own program delivery for data hall and AI cluster activation, from planning through operational handoff

• Coordinate cross-functional teams responsible for construction, infrastructure, network, hardware, ICT, commissioning, and operations execution

• Translate hyperscale AI/GPU and DLC infrastructure requirements into actionable deployment plans

• Anticipate downstream impacts of technical sequencing decisions on capacity, schedule, and cluster performance

• Drive alignment across teams operating at different speeds, scopes, and time zones – including vendor and contractor partners

• Manage and hold accountable vendors, integration contractors, and third-party service providers across the deployment lifecycle.

• Operate effectively in ambiguity, making progress with incomplete information and evolving requirements

• Develop and drive executive-level program status briefings that clearly communicate schedule health, risks, key decisions, and escalations paths

• Maintain clear, current program artifacts: schedules, RACI matrices, risk registers, decision logs, and deployment runbooks

• 5+ years experience in delivering complex data center physical infrastructure programs in fast-moving environments

• Strong understanding of AI/GPU infrastructure, including power density, cooling, networking, and deployment sequencing

• Demonstrated experience bridging construction handover and cluster deployment: candidates who are network only or construction only will not be a fit

• Familiarity with how construction, low-voltage, and commissioning activities impact deployment readiness and sequencing

• Proven ability to lead through influence rather than direct ownership of execution teams

• Proven ability to manage vendor and contractor relationships, understanding schedule and reputational risks

• Experience delivering programs across multiple concurrent sites or regions, including planning for staggered milestones

• Able to develop and present executive-level program status, risk summaries, and key decisions to senior leadership and cross-functional stakeholders

• Experience with long-lead procurement processes, and hardware supply chain constraints that affect deployment timelines

• Actively collaborate with SMEs across multiple domains to validate plans and resolve gaps

• Comfortable operating with limited process and evolving inputs in a high-growth, intense environment

• Demonstrated ability to take initiative, fill gaps, and drive execution beyond defined scope, without being directed to do so
