The Role:
We're looking for Software Engineers who are passionate about building high-quality products that solve meaningful customer problems.
As a Software Engineer at Forage, you'll work across the product development lifecycle—from shaping requirements and designing technical solutions to implementing, testing, deploying, and iterating on features. You'll collaborate closely with Product, Design, Solutions Engineering, and fellow engineers to deliver reliable, scalable systems that directly impact our customers.
We hire engineers across multiple levels, from mid-level individual contributors to senior and staff-level technical leaders. The exact level will be determined through our interview process based on experience, technical expertise, and demonstrated impact.
What We're Looking For:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
- 3+ years of professional software engineering experience.
- Experience building and shipping production software in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong understanding of software engineering fundamentals, including system design, testing, and debugging.
- Experience working with cloud infrastructure, ideally AWS.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills.
- Ability to work effectively across engineering, product, and business teams.
- Passion for building products that deliver exceptional customer experiences.
Preferred Technical Experience:
Experience with some or all of the following:
- Python
- Django
- TypeScript
- React
- React Native
- HTML/CSS
- REST APIs
- Distributed systems
- AWS cloud services
- CI/CD and modern development practices
Leveling Expectations:
Intermediate Engineer (L2–L3)
- Independently delivers features and projects.
- Contributes to technical design discussions.
- Collaborates effectively across teams.
Senior Engineer (L4)
- Leads medium-to-large projects.
- Drives technical decision-making within their domain.
- Mentors other engineers and improves engineering practices.
Staff Engineer (L5)
- Owns cross-functional technical initiatives.
- Influences architecture and engineering strategy.
- Raises the effectiveness of the broader engineering organization through leadership and mentorship.
Our Offer:
This role is Hybrid in New York or San Francisco, we will consider remote within North America on a case-by-case basis. We define hybrid as 2-3 days in office.
Your base salary would fall within the bands below. Please keep in mind that the equity portion of your offer is not included in these numbers and represents a significant part of your total compensation.
- Expected salary range: $125,000 – $225,000 USD base salary, plus equity and benefits.

What We’re Looking For:
An action-oriented Product Lead to develop and execute on a strategy and roadmap that will give the millions of low-income Americans who interact with Forage new tools to improve their financial lives.
Forage is the leading payment processor for regulated payments, starting with EBT payments: we’re an official partner to Uber Eats, DoorDash, Gopuff, Albertsons, Dollar General, 7-Eleven, and many others. We’re building upon this strong foundation with our consumer app and a suite of complementary tools that help consumers and the businesses that serve them address affordability.
We’re looking for a leader to help shape financial products that empower low-income consumers to more easily earn, save, and spend money across our rapidly growing product surfaces, including at online grocery order checkout and in the Forage app. You’ll evaluate, prioritize, and build products that empower Forage users to access new capabilities like digitizing and growing their savings, earning supplementary income, building and accessing credit, and more.
You’ll collaborate closely with teammates at Forage across engineering, design, data science, and more to deliver, market, and iterate on compelling products and features. As an early product leader at Forage, you’ll also have the opportunity to help set the cultural and product team direction at a company that directly impacts financial inclusion and access to nutrition.
Key Responsibilities:
- Shape our strategy and roadmap to grow Forage users’ purchasing power — Define, prioritize, launch, and improve features that make Forage’s consumer financial products intuitive, powerful, and delightful to use.
- Understand our users and opportunities — Conduct user research, analyze product analytics, and synthesize qualitative and quantitative evidence to continuously learn from our customers and help the team iterate informed by those learnings.
- Drive growth, engagement, and profitability — Partner with marketing, design, data science, and finance to optimize onboarding, integration, and activation and to ensure that your product initiatives create durable financial value for Forage, our users, and our business partners.
- Collaborate cross-functionally — Work closely with engineering, design, legal, and security to deliver growth while preserving reliability, trust, and compliance. Build strategic relationships with external partners to advance our priorities, including some of the world’s largest and most sophisticated retailers and delivery platforms.
- Measure what matters — Rally the team around ambitious, measurable, and focused success metrics and use them to evaluate product performance and to inform prioritization.
- Shape company and team culture — As an early PM and leader, help define how Forage builds empathetic, user-driven products rooted in mission and impact.
Qualifications:
- 5+ years of experience as a Product Manager and/or founder with impact you can point to from working on B2B2C or B2B products in fintech, ecommerce, or a related complex domain.
- Proven ability to ship impactful features that improved consumer acquisition, activation, and retention from 0 to 1 and/or in driving significant scale-ups. You can cite user insights and data points that speak to the significant user and business value you’ve driven.
- Experience leading product discovery and experimentation, including direct engagement with consumers and with external vendors and B2B partners. You know how to validate hypotheses quickly and how to get creative to scale what works across both consumer-facing surfaces and business development / partnerships where a keen understanding of unit economics is critical.
- Strong communication and storytelling skills; you can translate complex ideas into simple, digestible concepts for a wide range of audiences. You’re excited by the opportunity to adapt messaging to our diverse stakeholders, from consumers to credit card issuers to grocery retailers.
