POSITION SUMMARY
Within Infleqtion’s Quantum Computing Product Group, the Hardware Engineering Team seeks an Opto-mechanical Engineer as a designer responsible for the realization of precision opto-mechanical subsystems that underpin scalable, high-performance quantum hardware.
The successful candidate will support opto-mechanical, module-level designs working closely with physicists and cross-disciplinary engineering teams in a laboratory focused environment.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Typically, you will be entrusted with:
- Working on opto-mechanical subsystems and supporting identification and escalation of technical risks, trade-offs and constraints.
- Designing components for opto-mechanical integration of precision components and assemblies supporting lasers, optics, vacuum-integrated components, state-of-the-art sensors, high-speed photodetectors, DMDs, SLMs, AODs, and EOMs.
- Collaborating with physicists and optical, mechanical, electrical, software, and systems engineers through the hardware development lifecycle, from early research demonstrations through integrated, scalable systems.

- Using high-fidelity opto-mechanical simulations and executing on experimental strategies to characterize optical stability, drift, noise sources, and scaling limits, ranging from back-of-the-envelope calculations to detailed finite element analysis (FEA) encompassing tolerance stack-ups, thermal behavior, structural stiffness, and vibration sensitivity.
- Supporting the transition of opto-mechanical subsystems from research-grade configurations to repeatable, maintainable, and scalable hardware suitable for increased atom counts.
- Advancing current best practices for optical design workflows, laboratory procedures, documentation, and version control.

The successful candidate will act as a technical authority for complex opto-mechanical, module-level decisions while working closely with physicists and cross-disciplinary engineering teams to translate experimental requirements into robust, high-performance optical hardware that supports future scaling paths. This role requires deep technical design and laboratory contributions.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Typically, you will be entrusted with:
- Owning opto-mechanical subsystems within an established hardware architecture and identifying technical risks, trade-offs, and long-term scalability constraints.
- Executing on defined mechanical design and integration of precision components and assemblies supporting lasers, optics, vacuum-integrated components, state-of-the-art sensors (SPAD, EMCCD, sCMOS), high-speed photodetectors, DMDs, SLMs, AODs, EOMs, metasurface-based optics, and photonic integrated circuits (PICs).
- Using emerging optical technologies from academia and industry and contributing to their physical implementation within Infleqtion’s next-generation neutral-atom quantum computing architectures.
- Generating stability, tolerance, and error budgets for opto-mechanical systems to ensure performance across environmental and operational conditions.
- Collaborating closely with physicists and optical, mechanical, electrical, software, and systems engineers to support the full experimental and hardware development lifecycle, from early research demonstrations through integrated, scalable, multi-generation systems.
- Advancing design-for-manufacturing and design-for-assembly considerations early in the product lifecycle using data-driven methodologies, including model-based and hands-on root-cause investigations, corrective actions, and improved design and laboratory practices.
- Using high-fidelity opto-mechanical simulations and executing on experimental strategies to characterize optical stability, drift, noise sources, and scaling limits, ranging from back-of-the-envelope calculations to detailed finite element analysis (FEA) encompassing tolerance stack-ups, thermal behavior, structural stiffness, and vibration sensitivity.
- Providing technical leadership and mentorship support to developing opto-mechanical engineers through design reviews and hands-on coaching.
- Supporting the transition of opto-mechanical subsystems from research-grade configurations to repeatable, maintainable, and scalable hardware suitable for increased atom counts.
- Advancing current best practices for optical design workflows, laboratory procedures, documentation, and version control.
- Bachelor’s degree in optical engineering, mechanical engineering, physics, or a related field with at least 5 years of relevant industry experience. A Master’s degree or PhD may substitute for some experience.
- Extensive ownership-driven experience designing, modeling, and validating laser-based opto-mechanical systems for high-performance hardware backed by a strong hands-on laboratory track record.
- Proficiency with SolidWorks for complex scalable system design and analysis.
- Working knowledge of Zemax (OpticsStudio) sufficient to collaborate on optical layouts and component selection validation.

Within Infleqtion’s Quantum Computing Product Group, the Hardware Engineering Team is seeking a Principal Technical Specialist to provide hands-on technical stewardship across its optical and electronics laboratories and support reliable hardware inspection, assembly, integration, and test.
The successful candidate will independently perform and improve practical laboratory work, including incoming inspection, cable fabrication and test, interconnect troubleshooting, laboratory organization, soldering, optical inspection, and technical documentation. They will work closely with engineers and scientists to ensure hardware, tools, workspaces, and instructions are organized, understood, and ready for use while teaching sound workmanship and laboratory practices across the team.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Typically, you will be entrusted with:
- Perform incoming inspection of optical and electronic components and small subsystems, record results, and identify discrepancies against available drawings, specifications, and purchase documentation.
- Build, inspect, test, repair, and document cables and harnesses for laboratory and system use.
- Troubleshoot electrical, communication, and physical connections between devices, instruments, and subsystems; partner with engineers to isolate root causes and implement practical solutions.
- Establish and maintain orderly optical and electronics laboratory spaces, including clear labeling, storage, tool and material locations, work areas, and day-to-day workflows.
- Perform soldering, optical inspection, component handling, and related hands-on work to appropriate workmanship and safety standards.
- Teach and coach team members in soldering, optical inspection, component handling, laboratory organization, and other practical laboratory methods while actively performing the work.
- Review and improve assembly instructions, inspection criteria, test procedures, laboratory guides, and other technical documentation for clarity, completeness, accuracy, and usability.
- Maintain practical awareness of laboratory hardware, tools, materials, and equipment, including what is available, where it belongs, why it is used, and how it should be handled.
- Identify workmanship risks, missing information, nonconforming hardware, and laboratory-process gaps early; resolve them directly when appropriate and escalate them when engineering or quality decisions are required.
- Support cross-functional prototype and product assembly, integration, troubleshooting, and test activities as needed.
- High school diploma or equivalent and 8 or more years of relevant hands-on technical experience; relevant postsecondary education may substitute for a portion of the experience.
- Demonstrated experience working in optical, electronics, engineering, manufacturing, or research laboratories with limited day-to-day supervision.
- Experience performing incoming inspection and interpreting drawings, schematics, wiring diagrams, specifications, work instructions, and test procedures.
- Demonstrated cable and harness fabrication, inspection, continuity testing, repair, and connector workmanship skills.

In this exciting and multi-faceted role, this leader will be responsible for growing a multidisciplinary technical organization, working across a rapidly growing portfolio of business areas to identify and resolve execution risks / issues in staffing operations, drive hiring & talent acquisition to meet execution demands, assist program managers in successful program start-up staffing operations on new awards, ensure best practices are put into execution for engineering performance management, and act as a multi-disciplinary functional manager.
