The impact
As Method's Senior Counsel, you will drive the commercial legal engine that has powered Method's expansion from a single line of business into a multi-product fintech platform. Reporting directly to our General Counsel, you will become the primary legal partner to our go-to-market teams, turning contracts into a source of speed rather than friction. This is a role where your impact will drive meaningful improvement in: contract turnaround time, deal velocity for account executives and customer success.
You will own the full commercial contracting lifecycle, from drafting and negotiation through execution, across our lending business today and our emerging commerce line tomorrow. But your input and influence will extend well beyond contract review. You will design the AI-assisted workflows and playbooks that make the entire legal function faster, and assist with regulatory and product counseling as Method's product surface expands.
This is a rare opportunity to build the commercial legal capability at a company sitting at an inflection point. Your contributions will shape the legal function through Method’s next phase of scale.
What you'll do
Own commercial contracting – Draft, review, and negotiate lending agreements independently, from first draft through signature.
Become the go-to legal partner for go-to-market – Serve as the primary legal point of contact for account executives and customer success, cutting turnaround time on commercial requests and building trust as a fast, reliable partner to the business.
Build the AI-powered legal function – Design workflow automation, internal playbooks, and review tooling that increase the throughput of Legal.
Create repeatable cross-functional processes – Establish clear, efficient workflows between Legal and Sales, Customer Success, Compliance, Finance, Operations, and Product that reduce friction and improve velocity and visibility.
Expand coverage as the business grows – Extend legal support to the emerging commerce product, scaling the function alongside the business.
Who you are
At least three years post-JD experience in commercial law in the consumer finance industry
Proficiency in drafting, reviewing, and negotiating a variety of commercial agreements independently.
Prior consumer finance experience – Deep familiarity with the regulatory and commercial landscape for consumer financial products.
Genuinely energized by early-stage ownership – Excited to build systems and processes that do not yet exist.
Eager to build AI-assisted legal tools and workflows – You see this as a core part of the role.
Exceptional collaborator and communicator who builds strong relationships across diverse teams and organizations.
Strong judgment and experience advising business partners on nuanced and complex issues that lack clear answers.
Assertive, proactive, ownership mentality and enjoys working with cross-functional teams
Positive, upbeat attitude with a curious, can-do mindset
Extra Awesome
Already made the in-house transition to a fintech, bank, or consumer finance company.
Strong knowledge of open banking, federal and state privacy laws including GLBA and FCRA, and payments laws and rules including EFTA and Nacha.
Experience building or deploying contract automation or AI-assisted legal tooling.
