Security & Compliance Lead
Opal · San Francisco, California, USA
Pay
$120k–200k
Setting
On-site
About Opal Security:
The best security and engineering teams use Opal Security, the AI-native access platform, for real-time visibility, policy-as-code, and control over every identity, from employees to service accounts to AI agents. Companies like Databricks, Notion, CoreWeave, and Superhuman rely on Opal. Based in San Francisco, we've raised $59M from Greylock, Battery Ventures, and SVCI, and were named to Notable Capital's Rising in Cyber 2026 list by 150 leading CISOs. Our leadership brings deep security pedigree: CEO Howard Ting (previously CEO of Cyberhaven, CMO at Nutanix), CPO Sameer Mehta (Veza, Citrix), and CTO Alex Pien (Meta), among others who've built category-defining products.
THE ROLE
We're hiring a Security Manager to own Opal's internal security program. This person will be responsible for our security operations, compliance posture, vendor risk, incident response, and security tooling.
This is a hands-on, security-first role for someone who can operate independently, work well with external partners, and keep a fast-moving startup secure without slowing it down. You'll manage our security vendor and partner closely with engineering, operations, and leadership. You'll also oversee IT operations through our managed service provider (MSP), making sure onboarding/offboarding, devices, access, and office infrastructure meet our security and compliance needs.
This is not primarily an AppSec role. Product security and AppSec will remain closely partnered with Engineering, though this person will help coordinate security intake, bug bounty operations, vulnerability management, and remediation tracking.
We are building Opal together, in person. This role is 3+ days in office in downtown San Francisco.
WHAT YOU'LL OWN
SECURITY OPERATIONS
- Own Opal's internal security program across people, systems, devices, vendors, and office environments
- Manage security tooling for endpoint protection, SSO, MFA, access reviews, logging, monitoring, and alerting
- Lead security incident response, including triage, investigation, remediation, communications, and follow-up
- Run internal access reviews and improve least-privilege practices across company systems
- Manage physical and digital access controls for the office and internal tools
COMPLIANCE & RISK
- Drive SOC 2 compliance work, including control ownership, evidence collection, audit readiness, and auditor coordination
- Maintain security policies, procedures, exceptions, control documentation, and audit evidence
- Track security risks and drive practical remediation based on business impact
- Help turn security and compliance requirements into repeatable operating processes
VENDOR SECURITY & VULNERABILITY MANAGEMENT
- Own vendor security reviews as part of Opal's procurement process
- Manage ongoing third-party risk, including review cycles, evidence collection, and remediation follow-up
- Manage Opal's security vendor: set priorities, review deliverables, escalate issues, and hold them accountable
- Own bug bounty / vulnerability disclosure program operations, including intake, triage coordination, SLA tracking, and reporting
- Coordinate vulnerability remediation across security vendors, engineering, legal, and business stakeholders
IT OVERSIGHT VIA MSP
- Manage Opal's IT MSP relationship and ensure IT execution supports security and compliance requirements
- Coordinate secure onboarding/offboarding across accounts, hardware, access, and device posture
- Hold the MSP accountable for device management, helpdesk, network support, and office infrastructure
- Oversee office network and A/V decisions, including UniFi networking with VLAN segmentation
- Evaluate whether MSP scope needs to change as Opal grows
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
- 5+ years of experience in security operations, GRC, IT security, or a similar security-focused role
- Experience owning or materially driving a company security program
- Strong familiarity with SOC 2; FedRAMP, ISO 27001, or similar frameworks are a plus
- Experience with incident response, endpoint security, access reviews, logging/monitoring, and remediation tracking
- Strong understanding of identity and access concepts: SSO, MFA, least privilege, access reviews, and joiner/mover/leaver processes
- Experience managing security vendors, consultants, auditors, or other external partners
- Comfort managing IT operations through an MSP or similar external provider
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to operate independently, prioritize risk, and drive cross-functional follow-through in a startup environment
NICE TO HAVE
- Experience at a security, identity, or access management company
- Experience running or coordinating bug bounty / vulnerability disclosure programs
- Security certifications such as Security+, CISSP, CISM, or similar
- Experience building or maturing a security program from an early stage

The Role:
Governing who can access what, and revoking it the moment it's no longer needed, is one of the hardest problems in enterprise security, and it starts with people. Now AI agents are entering the same systems at machine speed, inheriting the same over-scoped access, and the problem is compounding fast. Opal is the control plane for all of it, and telling that story is what this role is about. We're hiring a Product Marketing & Content Associate to amplify Opal’s voice, using AI and automation to give one person the reach of a much larger team. About two-thirds is content and channels you'll own outright; the rest supports senior functions like PR, analyst relations, and sales enablement. You'll report into the Head of Product & Solutions Marketing, and the ideal candidate is a strong writer who is fluent with AI tools.
- Build the AI-powered content engine, including automations and workflows
- Own Opal's social presence end to end: daily posts, real-time engagement, and inventive campaigns (polls, bracket-style games) that make a technical category feel alive
- Create short-form video for LinkedIn, X, and YouTube, product clips, C-suite cuts, event moments, with a creator's instinct for hooks and platform-native formats
- Translate what's new into stories, turning product updates and launches into blogs, posts, and screen recording walkthroughs alongside PM and Engineering
- Shape thought leadership with our marketing leadership and C-suite, ghostwriting and producing the ideas that position Opal at the front of a new category
- Run the monthly newsletter start to finish, plus web updates and copy, including SEO/AEO
- Drive integration and partnership announcements, webinar and CTA promotion, and event recaps
- Support PR: contributed articles (about one per month) and pitches for launches and news moments
- Support customer story capture (video and written) and analyst relations outreach and management
- Help manage our podcast, newsletter sponsorships, and influencer relationships
- Lead one-pagers, click-through demos, and other sales plays (including competitive), and support the first-call deck
FYI - we are building Opal together, in person. This role is 3+ days in office in downtown San Francisco :)
You Might Be a Fit If You:
- Are a genuinely strong writer who can adapt voice: yours and the brand's
- Can create short-form video that earns attention, comfortable on camera or behind it, with instinct for what works on each platform
- Have real AI fluency: you use AI tools daily and reach for automation rather than grinding through things manually
- Are comfortable with an always-on pace and concurrent deliverable
Tools We Use:
We're always adding to this as new AI-native tools prove themselves. Fluency with the category matters more than any one name below.
- Design and demos: Figma, Arcade, Framer
- Screen recording and video: Screen Studio, Descript, CapCut
- AI and automation: Claude, Claude Code, Perplexity
- Meetings and content ops: Granola, Notion
- Video and podcast editing: Descript

Director of Demand Generation
Opal · San Francisco, California, USA
Pay

About Opal Security:
At Opal, we’re building modern identity governance for the AI era—intelligent access management that empowers enterprises to move fast while staying secure. Our mission is to bring clarity, control, and confidence to complex enterprise environments, helping teams govern access without slowing down innovation.
The Role:
Opal Security is hiring a Senior Demand Generation Manager. The ideal candidate is an AI pilled marketer looking to redefine what Demand Generation means in an AI-native GTM org. You’ve moved past vibe coding standalone apps and are operationalizing a highly personalized revenue generation engine with an opinionated POV on content, brand, campaigns, events, and digital channels. This is a hands-on role for a demand gen leader to partner closely with GTM leadership to create demand among IAM, security, infrastructure, and platform engineering, as well as GRC leaders at tech companies reaching scale.
Our go to market is a commercial sales-led motion. You will excel in this role if you know how to build high quality programs around the right accounts, create executive and practitioner engagement, and inspect whether marketing activity is actually turning into meetings, opportunities, and revenue.
This role reports into the VP, Marketing and is hybrid with 3+ days in office in downtown San Francisco.
What You’ll Do:
You will own day to day execution of ai-native demand generation programs across account based campaigns, field marketing, webinars, executive roundtables, paid amplification, partner campaigns, and sales follow-up. You will help Opal generate demand in cloud-native developer organizations that are scaling into regulatory scrutiny and need better ways to prove least privilege, govern access, and reduce access review fatigue.
- Build 1:1 and 1:few ABM campaigns for named accounts, segmented by regulatory pressure, cloud maturity, access complexity, and sales priority
- Launch integrated campaigns across content, webinars, paid, direct outreach, partner programs, and SDR sequences
- Partner with AEs and SDRs on target account lists, pre-event outreach, meeting goals, follow-up SLAs, and opportunity progression
- Own funnel and systems hygiene across campaign performance, routing, attribution, and conversion rates
- Plan and execute field marketing including executive dinners, roundtables, event surrounds, regional programs, and conference follow-up motions
You Might Be a Fit If You:
- Have built demand in B2B security, cloud, infrastructure, developer tooling, compliance, data, or similarly technical markets
- You take pride in your craft as an AI-native marketer
- Have run ABM with real rigor: account tiers, buying groups, 1:1 and 1:few plays, sales-aligned outreach, personalized content, and account engagement metrics
- Have run some executive dinners, roundtables, event surrounds, partner events, or regional programs that produced qualified meetings and pipeline (not just attendance)
- Are fluent in Salesforce, HubSpot or Marketo, campaign attribution, routing, funnel conversion, and weekly performance reporting
- Know how to work with AEs and SDRs before, during, and after campaigns so marketing activity actually becomes sales action

Application Security Engineer
Opal · San Francisco, California, USA
Pay
$120k–230k
Setting
Hybrid
About Opal Security:
At Opal, we’re building modern identity governance for the AI era—intelligent access management that empowers enterprises to move fast while staying secure. Our mission is to bring clarity, control, and confidence to complex enterprise environments, helping teams govern access without slowing down innovation.
The Role:
Most security engineers spend their careers bolting locks onto doors that were already built. This is not that job.
We're hiring an Application Security Engineer to own security across Opal's product and platform — and yes, own means what it sounds like. You'd be our dedicated security engineer, embedded directly with engineering, writing production code in Go and TypeScript, and building security into the product while it's still being designed. You’ll work closely with a team of engineers that genuinely care about getting this right, and a product that happens to be one of the most security-critical tools in enterprise software.
Oh, and one more thing: Opal is a security company. We sell access control to organizations that take security seriously. That means your work isn't a cost center — it's core to what we do.
This role lives on the Platform team and partners closely with Infrastructure Engineering on cloud security. It is explicitly scoped to application and product security — enterprise IT, compliance, and vendor risk management are handled separately.
What You’ll Do:
Secure Development Lifecycle -
- Own the secure SDLC end-to-end: threat modeling, design reviews, code reviews — you set the bar
- Run and coordinate app pentests (internal and external) and drive findings to closure
- Build and own SAST/DAST/SCA tooling wired into CI/CD so security ships with the code
- Triage and remediate vulnerabilities from every angle — bug bounty, internal scans, the works
Software Security Engineering -
- Build and maintain the security-critical stuff: encryption services, authz enforcement, authn flows
- Own the Auth0 ↔ Opal integration — tokens, sessions, MFA, SSO (SAML, OIDC, OAuth 2.0)
- Ship production Go and TypeScript to harden APIs, enforce least-privilege, and close vuln classes for good
- Create shared libraries that make the secure path the easy path for every product engineer
Incident Response & Cloud Security -
- Be first on the scene for security incidents: investigate, contain, find the root cause, fix it
- Partner with Infra on cloud hardening — AWS IAM, EKS, KMS, network segmentation
- Level up detection and response by writing detection rules and improving logging and alerting
Security Culture -
- Mentor engineers on secure coding, common vuln patterns, and security architecture — you make the org smarter
- Help set the security roadmap by grounding it in real product risk
- Be the security teammate engineers want to work with — a collaborator, not a bottleneck
You Might Be a Fit If You:
- Have 4+ years in application security or software security engineering
- Actually write production code — findings reports are the floor, not the ceiling
- Know auth cold: OAuth 2.0, OIDC, SAML, session management, token lifecycle
- Are comfortable in AWS and containerized environments (Kubernetes, Docker)
- Bonus points for familiarity with our stack: Go, TypeScript, React, PostgreSQL, Redis, GraphQL
- Have led complex, cross-functional security initiatives from kickoff to completion
- Have run or participated in external pentests and seen findings through remediation
- Thrive on ownership and ambiguity — you'd rather write the playbook than wait for one

About Opal Security:
At Opal, we’re building modern identity governance for the AI era—intelligent access management that empowers enterprises to move fast while staying secure. Our mission is to bring clarity, control, and confidence to complex enterprise environments, helping teams govern access without slowing down innovation.
The Role:
Opal Security’s ability to grow its team while preserving all the things we love (belief in the mission, spontaneous fun, highly skilled and hardworking colleagues) is fundamental to this next phase of growth and we need an excellent recruiter to achieve this.
Thats where you come in. You’ll be our sole, dedicated recruiter reporting to our Head of People. Your focus will be on building Go-to-Market hiring, but this isn’t a siloed role. If other roles intrigue you, you’ll be encouraged to take them on and you will have the opportunity to flex into broader strategic people work as you grow.
FYI - we are building Opal together, in person. This role is 3+ days in office in downtown San Francisco.
What You’ll Do:
- Create an effective, creative sourcing strategy that actually converts LinkedIn DMs to recruiter calls
- Become a true partner to our hiring managers: truly get to know their team, develop an opinion on who should join the team next, and help to continually evolve our interview process
- Bring Opal to IRL.. go to events, go to meetups, bring engineers to our office for pizza and Mario Kart
- Help build the infrastructure around how we hire: market maps, employer brand, and how Opal shows up to candidates before they ever apply
- Manage the candidate experience from sourcing through close
- As you ramp, there will be opportunity to flex into broader People Ops and HR work (if you want… or just recruit, recruit, recruit)
You Might Be a Fit If You:
- Have ~3–5+ years of recruiting experience, ideally some of that at a startup or high-growth company
- Have sourced and closed candidates for Engineering and/or GTM roles
- Are comfortable operating as a solo recruiter and you don't need a big team around you to do great work
- Are a critical thinker, data-driven, and Claude-confident (or at least Claude-curious)
- Are hungry to grow with a company… you want more ownership and scope than you've previously had

The Role
Our BDRs are often the first voice prospects hear from Opal Security. Your job is to turn curiosity into real interest — helping potential customers understand how Opal solves the identity and access governance challenges they're facing today.
This is an allbound role. You'll move quickly on inbound while running thoughtful, targeted outbound across key accounts. We're a conversation-first sales org - real pipeline comes from meaningful dialogue with the right people, not volume.
BDRs at Opal operate with the kind of account ownership and autonomy that mirrors how our AEs work. That's intentional. We're developing Opal's next generation of closers.
What You'll Do
Partner with AEs to identify and qualify strong opportunities; work with marketing to sharpen messaging; stay close to product so you deeply understand what Opal solves today and where we're headed. Represent Opal at events, experiment constantly with outreach, and build real relationships from the first touchpoint.
You Might Be a Fit If You
- Are a natural storyteller who can uncover the security problems keeping prospects up at night — and articulate how Opal solves them
- Are comfortable with modern sales tools: Nooks, Salesforce, LinkedIn Sales Navigator, ZoomInfo, Hockeystack
- Are intellectually curious and able to get your head around complex identity infrastructure and enterprise security challenges
- Bring grit, resilience, and empathy to every interaction
- Take ownership — you don't wait to be told what to do
