The Preparedness team is dedicated to addressing these critical risks. Our work includes:
1. Measurement. Monitoring and predicting the evolving capabilities of frontier AI systems.
2. Mitigation. Keeping misuse and misalignment safeguards, alignment tools, and security measures on track to adequately address extreme threats that might arise in the future.
3. Coordination. Setting mitigation targets by maintaining OpenAI’s preparedness framework https://openai.com/index/updating-our-preparedness-framework/, and partnering with other staff to achieve these targets.
This is urgent, fast-paced work that has far-reaching implications for the company and for society.
ABOUT THE ROLE
We are seeking exceptional researchers who can push the frontier of safety mitigations. You will help derisk frontier models by developing novel safety mitigations, developing and applying new techniques from domains like interpretability, control, and alignment to ensure the safety of OpenAI’s deployed models. You will play a critical role in defining how a safe AI system should look in the future at OpenAI, making a significant impact on our mission to build and deploy safe AGI.
This role requires strong technical depth and close cross-functional collaboration to ensure our safety mitigations are enforceable, scalable, and effective. We seek researchers who can partner with experts across domains such as misalignment, cybersecurity, and biology in order to develop the best possible end-to-end safety stack.
IN THIS ROLE, YOU WILL:
- Work on identifying emerging AI safety risks and new methodologies for exploring and mitigating the impact of such risks
- Build (and then continuously refine) the evaluations that enable us to assess the extent of these risks; this might include working with domain experts (be it internal or external)
- Set research directions and strategies to make our AI systems safer, more aligned, and more robust
- Contribute to the development of “best practices” guidelines for AI safety for OpenAI and across the industry
- Evaluate and design effective red-teaming pipelines to examine the end-to-end robustness of our safety systems, and identify areas for future improvement.

About the Role
The Electrical Commissioning Lead owns electrical commissioning planning, readiness, quality coordination, and test execution oversight for the project. This role ensures electrical systems are inspectable, testable, safe to energize, and ready for coordinated functional and integrated systems testing.
Reports to the Commissioning Project Lead and partners closely with electrical contractors, equipment vendors, design/engineering teams, the mechanical commissioning lead, controls stakeholders, and vendor field/test engineers.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain the electrical commissioning scope, readiness criteria, inspection strategy, and test execution plan.
- Review electrical design packages, specifications, submittals, method statements, sequence assumptions, and testing requirements for commissionability and risk.
- Coordinate electrical QA/QC inspections with contractors and vendor field/test engineers, including installation checks, pre-functional readiness, deficiency capture, and closeout tracking.
- Own electrical commissioning procedure development and review, including startup, energization readiness, functional testing, failure mode validation, controls interfaces, and integrated systems testing inputs.
- Coordinate with equipment vendors on factory/site acceptance requirements, startup support, test prerequisites, documentation packages, and vendor participation during critical tests.
- Support energization planning, switching and safety coordination, access sequencing, temporary conditions, witness points, and hold points.
- Lead discipline-level review of electrical test results, deficiencies, corrective actions, retest requirements, and acceptance evidence.
- Maintain electrical commissioning dashboards and status inputs for the Commissioning Project Lead, including risk items, resource needs, test readiness, and issue aging.
- Partner with the Mechanical Commissioning Lead on cross-discipline dependencies, including controls, life safety interfaces, heat load testing, power-to-mechanical coordination, and integrated testing scenarios.
- Support turnover by confirming electrical documentation, as-built evidence, test records, and outstanding issue disposition are complete and usable by operations.
Qualifications
- 8+ years of electrical commissioning, electrical construction, field engineering, startup, testing, or owner representative experience on complex technical infrastructure projects.
- Strong knowledge of electrical distribution, backup or standby power systems, grounding and bonding, electrical controls/interfaces, protection concepts, and safe energization workflows as applicable to the project scope.
- Experience reviewing commissioning specifications, inspection checklists, functional test scripts, vendor startup procedures, and test reports.
- Ability to coordinate field execution across contractors, equipment vendors, QA/QC teams, commissioning partners, and project leadership.
- Strong practical judgment around readiness, safety, sequencing, test prerequisites, and risk escalation.
- Comfort working in construction environments with evolving schedules and multiple parallel work fronts.
- Clear technical writing skills and discipline in maintaining logs, test evidence, issue records, and decision history.
- Ability to be present at the project site during critical electrical installation, startup, energization, and testing windows.
Preferred Skills
- Owner-side or commissioning agent experience on mission-critical, utility-scale, industrial, manufacturing, data center, or other high-reliability facilities.
- Professional engineering, electrical license, commissioning credential, or equivalent field qualification.
- Experience with integrated systems testing and coordination between electrical, mechanical, controls, and operations teams.
- Familiarity with digital issue tracking, commissioning management platforms, schedule tools, and field reporting workflows.

About the Role
We are seeking a senior Actuator Electromagnetic Design Engineer to lead the development of custom electromechanical actuators for advanced robotic systems. You will own actuator development from early architecture and concept generation through prototype validation and system integration, partnering closely with mechanical, electrical, controls, firmware, reliability, and manufacturing teams.
This role focuses on the design, integration, and validation of precision electromechanical systems, including motors, transmissions, sensing, structural components, and thermal architectures. You will help drive actuator development across the full engineering lifecycle while establishing scalable design, test, and integration practices for future robotic platforms.
This role is based in San Francisco, CA, and requires in-person presence 4 days a week.
In this role, you will:
- Lead the architecture, design, and integration of custom robotic actuators, including the design, simulation, integration and sourcing of custom electromagnetic components.
- Define actuator requirements and system-level trade studies around torque density, bandwidth, efficiency, thermal performance, inertia, reliability, manufacturability, and cost.
- Design precision electromechanical assemblies with strong attention to tolerances, alignment, load paths, thermal expansion, sealing, wear, and serviceability.
- Drive actuator integration into robotic systems, partnering closely with controls, firmware, electrical, and robotics software teams to optimize closed-loop performance.
- Develop and evaluate architectures with integrated sensing and encoder strategies.
- Build and validate prototypes through hands-on bring-up, debugging, characterization, and iterative refinement.
- Develop test methodologies and characterization infrastructure for actuator performance, reliability, durability, and failure analysis.
- Analyze test data to identify limitations, failure modes, and opportunities for design improvement.
- Collaborate with manufacturing and supplier partners to transition designs from prototype to scalable production-ready assemblies.
- Support DFM, DFA, DFT, calibration, and assembly strategies for electromechanical subsystems.
- Contribute to actuator sourcing strategy, vendor qualification, prototype builds, and supply-chain development.
- Document designs, interfaces, validation results, and engineering decisions to support long-term maintainability and production readiness.
- Help establish engineering standards, integration practices, and development workflows for future robotic platforms.

- Strong understanding of motors, transmissions, bearings, encoders, structural design, thermal management, and precision mechanical integration.
- Familiarity with actuator sensing architectures, including encoder integration and calibration strategies.
- Experience designing for prototype and production manufacturing processes including machining, casting, molding, and assembly.
- Proficiency with CAD and PLM tools such as NX and Teamcenter or equivalent systems.
- Experience developing validation plans, reliability testing, and failure analysis workflows.
- Experience scaling hardware systems from prototype through EVT/DVT/PVT and into production is a plus.

About the Role
We are seeking an Actuator Gear Design Engineer to lead the development of custom gears and gear stages for advanced robotic systems. You will own actuator development from early architecture and concept generation through prototype validation and system integration, partnering closely with mechanical, electrical, controls, firmware, and reliability teams. You will partner with external suppliers and internal manufacturing to create full gearbox assemblies.
This role focuses on the design, integration, and validation of precision gearing, including broader knowledge around motor electromagnetics, transmission types, sensing, structural components, and thermal architectures. You will help drive actuator development across the full engineering lifecycle while establishing scalable design, test, and integration practices for future robotic platforms.

In this role, you will:
Lead the architecture, design, and integration of custom robotic actuator gearing.
Define actuator requirements and system-level trade studies around torque density, bandwidth, efficiency, thermal performance, back drivability, inertia, reliability, manufacturability, and cost.
Design precision electromechanical assemblies with strong attention to tolerances, alignment, load paths, thermal expansion, sealing, wear, and serviceability.
Drive actuator integration into robotic systems, partnering closely with controls, firmware, electrical, and robotics software teams to optimize closed-loop performance.
Develop and evaluate architectures with integrated sensing and encoder strategies.
Build and validate prototypes through hands-on bring-up, debugging, characterization, and iterative refinement.
Develop test methodologies and characterization infrastructure for actuator performance, reliability, durability, and failure analysis.
Analyze test data to identify limitations, failure modes, and opportunities for design improvement.

About the Role
As an Android Systems Engineer, you will help define and build the Android platform capabilities behind the next generation of AI-powered consumer experiences.
This is not a traditional application-only Android role. You will work across the Android stack, using system-level APIs, device capabilities, platform integrations, and OEM-specific functionality to create experiences that would be difficult or impossible to build as a conventional mobile application.
You will help determine what becomes possible when an AI assistant is deeply integrated with a mobile device: how it understands what is happening, interacts naturally with the user, connects across apps and services, and helps complete multi-step tasks.
You will work closely with product, design, AI, backend, platform, and external device partners to take new concepts from prototype to production. About the Role
As a member of the Data team within the Go-to-Market organization, you will help build a data-driven culture, improve decision-making, and advance strategic initiatives through analytics.
This is a full-stack data role spanning data modeling, metric definition, visualization, analysis, and self-service tooling. You will build trusted, scalable data sources and products that give the business reliable, actionable insights. The work calls for judgment: you will choose the tool, approach, and level of investment that best fit each problem, from a focused analysis to a durable production data product.
As a core partner to the GTM organization, you will address both foundational and ad hoc analytics needs. You will turn complex data into clear narratives that help technical and non-technical audiences understand what is happening, why it matters, and what they should do next.
In this role, you will:
Partner closely with GTM teams to proactively identify high-impact questions and translate business needs into data models, metrics, analyses, and scalable technical solutions.
Define, source, validate, and operationalize the metrics that guide the business, helping teams incorporate them into planning and day-to-day decisions.
Lead cross-functional data projects across established and emerging business areas, including setting the data strategy for greenfield domains.
Build scalable data models and pipelines that integrate and transform data from multiple sources into trusted, accessible datasets.
Create dashboards, reports, analytical tools, and other data products that enable stakeholders to answer questions independently.
Own the lifecycle of metrics, analytical models, and data products from initial exploration and prototyping through production and ongoing maintenance.
Choose the most effective approach for each problem—whether an analysis, metric, data model, visualization, or self-service product—based on the audience, urgency, complexity, and expected value.
Exercise strong judgment when prioritizing competing requests, balancing immediate business needs with investments that improve the long-term quality and scalability of the data ecosystem.
Use AI-assisted development tools to increase productivity while maintaining clear, tested, and maintainable code, data models, and documentation.
Turn complex findings into clear, persuasive narratives through presentations, written memos, dashboards, and other formats suited to the audience.
You might thrive in this role if you:
Have 10+ years of experience in a relevant data role within fast-moving, results-oriented organizations.
Can independently structure and own ambiguous, high-impact business problems from initial framing through recommendation and execution.
Are highly autonomous, resourceful, and creative when navigating technical, operational, and stakeholder constraints.
Exercise strong judgment when deciding what to prioritize, how deeply to invest, and when a quick answer should become a durable data product.
Have deep SQL expertise and extensive experience working with large datasets and designing ETL workflows.
Understand effective software and analytics engineering practices and can use AI tools to move faster without creating brittle systems, unclear code, or unnecessary complexity.
Are proficient in a quantitative programming language, preferably Python.
Have experience with BI tools such as Tableau or Looker and know how to enable effective self-service analytics.
Have worked with custom visualization frameworks such as React, Streamlit, or Plotly Dash.
Can turn complex analysis into persuasive stories using memos, presentations, dashboards, and other formats.
Bring exceptional attention to detail and a strong commitment to accuracy.
Have delivered significant business impact, ideally within Sales, Finance, Support, or another GTM function.
