Job Details
We are seeking a Regional Insurance Product Manager to own state-level strategy and market performance across an assigned region, and to help bring Openly insurance products to independent agents across the country. Reporting to the Director of Insurance Product Management, this highly visible role offers the opportunity to lead key insurance product management initiatives and interact with business leaders across Technology and Operations Teams. This role requires a self-motivated, high-energy individual who can efficiently function in a fast-paced, performance-driven environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Owning state-level strategy and calibrating Openly's homeowners program for assigned states and new state entries, including UW eligibility, coverage offerings, competitive positioning, and Openly proprietary models
- Managing the state filing process and DOI relationships and correspondence, ensuring timely regulatory approval
- Collaborating with our Technology and Operations teams to successfully implement rate reviews and new state launches
- Monitoring and analyzing key performance indicators and drivers of profitability, including loss ratios, actuarial indications, frequency/severity trends, sales conversion, persistency, and translating findings into actionable strategic recommendations
- Developing cost-benefit analyses of state-level strategic initiatives and presenting recommendations that balance market opportunity with company objectives and profitability targets
- Identifying business challenges and opportunities, designing analytical frameworks to evaluate options, and delivering sound recommendations
- Cultivating partnerships with Business Development, serving as the primary conduit for field-level market feedback into the Insurance Product organization
- Escalating state-level insights that warrant countrywide product changes, acting as an internal advocate for market needs
- Contributing to other product management initiatives, such as external data evaluations, market/competitor intelligence, and new product development
Requirements
- 3-5 years of experience in insurance product management or product development roles, with a demonstrated focus on strategy, analytics, or state-level product ownership
- A degree in Business Administration, Mathematics, Actuarial Science, Economics, Statistics, or related field
- Solid analytical skills with the ability to develop and interpret quantitative analyses and translate findings into strategic narratives for senior business leaders and cross-functional audiences
- Demonstrated ability to identify and define complex business problems and develop relevant analytical frameworks to deliver solutions, often operating in ambiguity and leveraging creativity
- Strong communication, storytelling, and project management skills
- Able to collaborate effectively with people at all levels across the company
- Strong decision-making skills, using data to inform strategic recommendations
- P&C insurance experience is required, and homeowners insurance experience is a plus
- Insurance product compliance and/or state regulatory relationship experience is a plus

We’re hiring a Senior Backend Engineer to be a part of one of our core teams building the backend for Openly's insurance platform. You will play an essential role in designing, building, testing, and maintaining the services and technology that power our insurance offering and customer experiences.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with internal and external partners to develop the core systems and create APIs that power our best-in-class user experiences.
- Build out our internal tooling and APIs to make business and engineering processes easier, faster, and safer.
- Implement systemic changes to align existing systems with current architectural goals.
- Integrate with external services to manage payments, documents, and claims.
- Integrate with data providers to source real-time information on hundreds of data points, including property characteristics and risk profiles.
- Provide subject matter expertise, mentorship, and support to individuals on your team.
- Collaborate on architectural discussions with your team.
- Contribute to important architectural and operational decisions like microservices vs. monoliths, deployment techniques, technologies, policies, etc.
- Participate in daily stand-ups, weekly 1:1's, and biweekly retros.

- Infrastructure: Google Cloud, specifically Cloud Run, Kubernetes, Pub/Sub, BigQuery, and CloudSQL, managed with Terraform. We use GitHub for code hosting, DataDog for monitoring, and CircleCI for running our CI/CD pipelines.
- Remote work tools: Slack, Zoom, Donut
Requirements
- At least 4 years of professional/production experience developing backend web-stack applications.
- Professional experience leveraging Go in prior roles. Please note, part of the interview process includes completing a code challenge in Go.
- Sustained track record of creating improvements in business-critical systems around stability, performance, and scalability.
- Demonstrated ability to deliver complete systems from start to finish in a reasonable time frame with little or no supervision.
- Strong interpersonal skills, such as an ability to explain complex technical concepts to non-technical audiences.

JOB DETAILS
Reporting directly to the Senior Director of Operational Analytics & Reporting, this role leverages advanced analytics to measure the success of insurance product countrywide programs while serving as a senior technical resource across the analytics team for more complex business function analysis and ad hoc projects. As a subject matter expert in data visualization, robust reporting, and analytical deep dives, this role will play a key part in:
- Translating complex data into actionable insights through advanced data visualization and intuitive dashboards leveraging efficient data aggregation.
- Understanding the expected changes and corresponding impacts of various insurance product initiatives.
- Conducting analytical deep dives to uncover root causes, inform the setup of analytical frameworks, and enable stakeholders to quickly grasp results and market trends.
- Proactively identifying systemic process and data gaps across the insurance lifecycle, moving beyond surface-level fixes to define the root cause of operational friction.
- Identifying opportunities to enhance both new initiatives and existing programs.
This role will also be responsible for evaluating the ongoing health of various metrics for the current book of business, developing comprehensive performance reports, and proactively raising and understanding key drivers of any new trends observed. While this individual will begin with no direct reports, the role is expected to grow into people management of one to two individual contributors, and the individual will serve as a technical leader across the analytics team from the outset.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Serve as a connective bridge with the Insurance Product org, linking the technical detail of the analysis to the broader operational and financial analytics the team is responsible for, so stakeholders and senior leadership can see how the work translates into business and financial context.
- Closely work and collaborate with the Insurance Product team to align on analytical requirements and measures of success for both new and ongoing initiatives.
- Partner closely with the other analytics function teams—including Sales & Marketing, Claims, and Service—as the advanced-analytics resource on the more complex, specialized projects that arise within their functions.
- Build out comprehensive monitoring frameworks that provide insights around current results and trends. Leverage these findings to provide recommendations on both product and strategy that will have positive impacts on growth, retention, and profitability.
- Independently conduct analysis of current countrywide programs to understand and quantify the success of the program while identifying areas of opportunity for future enhancements related to growth and profitability.
- Architect end-to-end analytical frameworks for complex, multi-faceted business issues, including the development and refinement of predictive models where appropriate.
- Proactively identify systemic process and data gaps across the insurance lifecycle, mapping out the ripple effects and trade-offs of proposed solutions.
- Consistently demonstrate curiosity by proposing new ideas for analysis and leveraging the resulting insights to show alignment with or opportunities within current and future strategies.
- Conduct competitor research using various tools and sources to keep a proactive pulse on industry results and trends that could inform internal decisions.
- Serve as a technical leader across the analytics team, providing guidance and raising the analytical floor through collaboration, using advanced influencing and storytelling skills to shape business decisions.
REQUIREMENTS
- A minimum of 10 years of experience & background in insurance products, preferably personal lines property and/or auto insurance products.
- Advanced analytical thinking and comfort in evaluating the success of various countrywide insurance product programs against targets.
- Expert-level mastery of SQL.
- Experience building and refining predictive models in Python or R.
- Demonstrated track record of identifying structural process gaps, proposing solutions and influencing business decisions.
- Experience gathering requirements and building dashboards using PowerBI, Tableau, or LookerStudio.
- Able to conduct cost-benefit analyses to inform strategic decisions.
- Strong organizational and time management skills, capable of working with high autonomy on complex initiatives while meeting short and long-term deadlines.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills with proven ability to build rapport and collaborate effectively with stakeholders at all levels.
- CPCU or equivalent insurance designation and/or passing of actuarial exams preferred but not required.

We are seeking an Actuarial Analyst to assist in both new product development and profitability review of current product offerings. The role is designed to leverage the latest technologies to help automate and expand our profitability and pricing management function. This role requires a self-motivated, high-energy individual who can efficiently function in a fast-paced, performance-driven environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Drive state expansion by assisting in developing rating models, developing other customer-facing models, and supporting DOI inquiries
- Develop and expand product analytics capabilities to enrich understanding of Product Profitability. Operationalize insights.
- Assist in producing formal actuarial deliverables as needed (rate indications, amendments to rating plan, reinsurance analysis, loss modeling, etc.)
- Design and enhance analytical frameworks and capabilities, in partnership with our Senior Research Actuary
- Develop efficient processes that support the integration of our analytical frameworks/capabilities into our day-to-day operations. Outputs include descriptive reporting, anomaly detection, diagnostic tools, modeled forecasting, and accuracy monitoring.
- Continuously test and adopt newly available tools/capabilities to improve the scale and rigor of our actuarial capabilities
Requirements
- 2-4 years of experience in insurance pricing, preferably with experience in personal lines insurance pricing
- Progress made towards ACAS/FCAS designations (preferably 3+ exams)
- Strong technical (SQL) and analytical skills, capable of developing quantitative analyses through data manipulation, often operating in ambiguity and leveraging creativity
- Python familiarity
- Strong communication skills
- Homeowners and/or Auto insurance experience is a plus.
