Security at Valon
Our customers entrust us with some of their most sensitive and personal financial information, and it is the ultimate mission of Valon’s Security team to ensure we have sound programs, processes, and automation in place to safeguard our customers’ data. The Security team protects the infrastructure and data for processing billions of dollars of mortgage loans.
In addition to protecting Valon’s internal systems, the Security team partners closely with Product and Engineering to design and deliver secure, scalable, and trustworthy capabilities for ValonOS. As AI becomes central to how Valon builds and operates, our team is responsible for securing AI-powered systems and pipelines while also leveraging AI tools to optimize security and defense capabilities. Mortgage servicing is just the beginning of our vision to transform regulated industries and beyond.
Engineering at Valon
Our engineering team powers a modern software ecosystem designed to disrupt one of the most outdated and heavily regulated industries in finance: mortgage servicing. We’ve built the foundation of a scalable platform capable of managing billions in assets with precision and reliability. Now we’re focused on scaling infrastructure, improving developer experience, and building high-leverage systems that support rapid product iteration and long-term business growth. We’re a tight-knit, high-agency group of engineers from Stripe, Jane Street, Meta, and Google, and we aim to do the best work of our lives—together.
Our headquarters are in New York City, with a new San Francisco office opening this year. We also fully support remote work.
About the Role
We’re looking for an Engineering Manager to lead our Cloud Infrastructure efforts on the Platform team. In this role, you’ll manage and grow a high-impact team responsible for the foundational infrastructure powering all of Valon’s products. You’ll work across all our production systems (compute, databases, storage, and networking)—ensuring our platform is scalable, secure, and reliable. We handle over 100mm background jobs per day and expect to scale >10x over the next 2 years. Some example projects on the roadmap:
Adopt new data stores that support our growth: Vitess, Clickhouse, Redis.
Scale our batch processing control plane for faster component creation and fulfillment.
Production-equivalent sandbox environment for customer testing, demos, etc.
You’ll operate with a product management mindset, balancing near-term priorities with long-term platform vision. You’ll partner closely with engineering, product, and operations to define and deliver cross-cutting infrastructure initiatives. This is a hands-on leadership role—you’ll guide architecture decisions, write code when needed, and deeply understand how our systems work. You'll also be a people-first leader, focused on recruiting, coaching, giving feedback, and helping engineers thrive through 360° feedback and continuous development.
Responsibilities
Lead a team of 5+ engineers focused on infrastructure and platform tooling.
Own technical strategy, planning, and execution for core platform initiatives, with an emphasis on scalability, reliability, and security.
Act as a strong technical mentor and hands-on contributor when needed—guiding architecture, writing code, and debugging systems.
Collaborate with stakeholders across engineering, product, and operations to build infrastructure that unlocks product innovation and operational excellence.
Establish and evolve engineering processes for continuous improvement, velocity, and quality.
Invest in recruiting and developing engineering talent through coaching, mentorship, and ongoing feedback (including 360 feedback).
Promote a high-agency, high-accountability team culture with a bias for action and clear communication.
Advocate for technical excellence and pragmatic decision-making, grounded in deep system knowledge.
Ideal Background
4+ years of software engineering experience, with at least 1+ years in a tech lead or engineering management role.
Experience working on infrastructure, platform engineering, DevOps, or cloud systems.
Strong systems thinking and understanding of how backend and infrastructure layers interact.
Track record of leading teams in fast-paced, high-growth environments.
Demonstrated ability to mentor and grow engineers while fostering a high-performance, feedback-driven team culture.
Excellent communication skills and ability to align cross-functional partners around platform strategy.
Hands-on experience with cloud providers (e.g., AWS, GCP), containerization (Docker, Kubernetes), and distributed systems.
A strong product mindset and the ability to translate business problems into scalable technical solutions.
Benefits
Compensation: competitive salary with a meaningful stake in the company via equity, and 401k plan. NB: The base salary range reflects multiple levels. We assess level based on a combination of past experience and interview performance
Health & well-being: we’ll invest in your physical and mental well-being with comprehensive medical, dental, & vision benefits

Implementation Manager
Technical Recruiter
About the Company

When everything flows through one system with rich data, AI agents don't just automate tasks, they continuously improve entire operations. Mortgage servicing is just the beginning of our vision to transform regulated industries and beyond.
About the Role
Recruiting at Valon isn't support. It's the engine.
Every hire we make compounds our ability to build the AI-native operating system that will run trillion-dollar regulated industries. That means the people who find, assess, and close our talent aren't peripheral to the mission — they are the mission.
We're looking for a Technical Recruiter who treats recruiting the way our engineers treat code: as a system to be built, measured, and relentlessly improved. Someone who has already started using AI to 10x their own output — not because their manager told them to, but because they couldn't help themselves. Someone who sees a manual, repetitive workflow and instinctively thinks: I can automate this.
This is not a req-filling role. This is a building role. You'll own the full lifecycle for our most critical technical hires, and you'll do it with an incredibly high level of speed, precision, and intellectual curiosity.
This Role is NOT For You If...
You think AI tools are a nice-to-have you'll "get around to learning"
You run the same sourcing playbook you ran in 2021 and call it a strategy
You wait for a hiring manager to tell you what good looks like instead of forming your own conviction
You measure your success by activity (messages sent, screens scheduled) rather than outcomes (hires closed, time-to-fill, offer acceptance rate)
You're uncomfortable pushing back on senior leaders when their expectations don't match the market
You need a fully built process to be effective — we're still building ours
What You'll Do
Own pipelines end-to-end, with urgency. Source, assess, and close world-class technical talent across engineering, product, and data roles. No candidate sits in limbo. No hiring manager is in the dark. You move fast because you've built the systems that let you move fast.
Be a strategic partner, not an order taker. You'll bring market intelligence to every intake. When a job description is off, comp is misaligned, or an interview loop is leaking good candidates — you say so, with data.
Tell a story that makes exceptional people pay attention. Valon's thesis is counterintuitive: we built the whole stack, not a wedge product, because regulated finance demands it. You need to understand that deeply enough to make world class engineers stop scrolling.
Obsess over candidate experience. Every touchpoint reflects who we are. You'll design interactions that are precise, human, and high-trust — from first outreach to offer close to day-one onboarding.
Use AI like it's part of your team. You're already experimenting with AI for sourcing, outreach personalization, pipeline analysis, candidate research, and workflow automation. You don't wait for someone to hand you a tool — you find it, test it, and share what works.
Build recruiting as a product. Draft job descriptions, refine interview loops, create sourcing playbooks, build dashboards. Everything you do should be repeatable, measurable, and compounding.
What You Bring
Proven track record closing technical roles (engineering, product, data) in high-growth or complex environments
A portfolio of AI experimentation — you can talk concretely about tools you've tried, workflows you've automated, and what worked vs. didn't
High agency: you take ownership, drive outcomes, and fix what's broken without being asked
The ability to translate complex, technical, or regulated businesses into narratives that attract top talent
Sharp pattern recognition for what "great" looks like across technical disciplines
Resilience through rejection, slow closes, and ambiguity — you keep momentum when pipelines stall
Strong data instincts: you track metrics, spot trends, and let numbers inform your decisions
Communication skills that build trust with candidates and hiring managers alike
Why Valon
Impact. Every hire you close directly accelerates the AI-native OS that will transform how regulated finance operates. This isn't hypothetical — our platform already manages millions of homeowner accounts.
Innovation. AI isn't a feature at Valon. It's the architecture. You'll recruit for a company where the product thesis and the internal operating model are both AI-native.
Team. A small, high-talent-density recruiting squad where your ideas get pressure-tested and shipped — not buried in a backlog.
Growth. We're scaling beyond mortgage servicing into the broader regulated finance ecosystem. The recruiting function you help build now will power that expansion.
