National Security Analyst
WireScreen · Arlington, Virginia, United States
Pay
$150k–200k
Setting
Hybrid
WireScreen is a fast-growing Series A startup bringing clarity to one of the world’s most complex business landscapes. We’re building the go-to intelligence platform for navigating global supply chains and China-related risk—revealing the networks, relationships, and financial ties behind companies so our customers can see connections, remove obstacles, and make confident decisions.
Backed by Sequoia Capital and Harpoon Ventures, our team includes a two-time Pulitzer Prize–winning journalist and senior engineers from Google, Twitter, and Oracle. We launched just three years ago and already have strong traction with top-tier government customers—and we’re just getting started. If you’re excited to make global systems more transparent and secure, now’s the perfect time to join us.
WireScreen is looking for a National Security Analyst to break news, explain complex topics, and produce data-driven research on the technologies and supply chains shaping U.S.–China competition. This role sits at the intersection of journalism and analysis: your work will be read by the public and, crucially, our customers including national security professionals.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
- Report and write weekly on topics important to our customers: a mix of reported stories and shorter explanatory pieces (500–1,000 words) covering defense, national security, export controls, cybersecurity, rare earths, quantum, AI, and semiconductors, with room to break news
- Write at different altitudes. A single story may take several forms: a public-facing piece, plus a slimmed-down briefing or report written for a national security or commercial audience; drier, research-driven, and grounded in the underlying data
- Go where the stories take you. Beyond the core beats, you'll have the flexibility to develop stories that you uncover, provided the WireScreen platform has the data to back it up
- Produce special reports: two or more deep-dive features per year (2,000–3,000 words)
- Work closely with our GTM team, including attending briefings and meetings with federal and commercial customers to present and answer questions on your reports.
- Represent WireScreen publicly at our own events, The Wire China events, external conferences, and on television/podcasts
- Collaborate occasionally on stories with journalists from The Wire China, The New York Times, and other publications we maintain relationships with
WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR
- 8+ years of experience as a journalist, writer, or analyst
- Investigative experience is a must. You know how to dig into corporate records, supply chains, and hard-to-source stories
- A published body of work: news pieces or research reports that you can submit alongside your application
- A versatile writer who can move between registers: compelling, story-driven public journalism and precise, data-forward analysis for an expert audience
- Fluent in the beat. You have significant experience reporting on and deep knowledge of business, China, national/economic security, or strategically important topics in this space
WHAT YOU'LL LOVE ABOUT WIRESCREEN
At WireScreen, you'll do high-impact work that helps shape the global economy and power competition. We’re a mission-driven team with a growth mindset—curious, collaborative, and unafraid to take on bold challenges. You’ll be empowered to act, heard when you speak, and supported as you grow. With strong market momentum and ambitious goals, this is an exciting time to join us and help build something that truly matters.
BENEFITS & PERKS
At WireScreen, we care deeply about our team and are committed to supporting your well-being—both in and out of the workplace. Here’s how we take care of our employees:
- Competitive compensation including salary, equity, and rapid growth potential

If you’re excited to make global systems more transparent and secure, now’s the perfect time to join us.
ABOUT THE ROLE:
As a Machine Learning Engineer at WireScreen, you will be working across our data systems to unlock the source of truth behind one of the world’s economic powerhouses: China. This role is critical to building models that support the two fundamental pieces of our business: entity resolution and our knowledge graph. These systems are the cornerstones that uncover hidden connections within the Chinese economy. You will be contributing to our existing MCP servers and agentic pipelines to classify, cluster and enrich across millions of entities. You will be working with engineering, product and research to expand our AI toolkit, scaling our data ingestion processes, building analytics and insights into our platform at a scale not previously achievable.
Reporting directly to the VP of Engineering, you will work with our data team, enrichment team and product to establish our source of truth and expand our machine learning capabilities.
WHAT YOU'LL DO:
- Fine tune our existing entity resolution algorithms to uncover hidden connections between people and organizations across China
- Expand our knowledge graph with alternative data to map out the power structure of China
- Train, test and deploy ML models that operate on tens of millions of records daily
- Work with Product to define and implement evaluation harnesses for classical ML and agentic systems
- Build agent workflows into internal tools to improve the scale and speed of our Research team
WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR:
- 4+ years of experience working on clustering-type ML problems, ideally in the domain of knowledge graphs / entity resolution, but other domains could include; recommendation engines, cohort analysis, outlier/anomaly detection
- End-to-end machine learning model experience in production; that you’ve stood up a service including experimenting, training, testing and tuning a job against a dataset all the way through to deployment and beyond. Model families could include clustering, classification/regression, dimensionality reduction and embeddings, nearest-neighbor/similarity methods (e.g. KNN, SVM), ensembles, NLP, and deep learning.
- Significant experience with python programming and SQL
NICE TO HAVE:
- Experience working with Frontier/SOTA models and/or fine-tuning your own LLMs for specific tasks
- Working on problems across large, heterogeneous, messy unstructured datasets and/or with semantic search, computer vision (especially OCR), or linear optimization problems
- Experience with any of the following technologies: PySpark, Temporal, FastAPI, Scikit-learn, NumPy, Docker, Terraform, Kubernetes
- Early-stage startup experience (Series B or earlier)
- B2B SaaS experience

If you’re excited to make global systems more transparent and secure, now’s the perfect time to join us.
ABOUT THE ROLE:
As WireScreen's first partner team hire, you're a builder at heart — someone who turns strategy into results. Reporting to the Partnerships Director, you'll run business development against priority targets, deepen existing partner relationships, and build the operational infrastructure that lets the channel scale. You'll own activation end to end — getting partners onboarded and producing, closing wins within the playbook, and creating structure where little exists today. Expect to build the program, not inherit it.
WHAT YOU'LL DO:
- Run outreach and business development against a defined target list — government primes, trusted providers, and commercial integration partners — to grow WireScreen’s reach and usage
- Own the full activation cycle for key partners, from outreach and qualification through onboarding and first revenue
- Expand existing relationships by identifying untapped opportunities, increasing engagement, and driving greater ROI
- Support co-sell motions with the sales team on partner-influenced and partner-sourced deals
- Serve as the primary operational point of contact for a large portion of the partner portfolio — triaging requests, coordinating deliverables, and keeping relationships on track
- Maintain and execute the partner playbook in HubSpot: onboarding, enablement, pricing tiers, deal registration, and tracking across pipeline, usage, attribution, and renewals
- Draft partner communications and maintain partner-facing materials such as one-pagers, methodology summaries, onboarding decks, FAQs, and pricing guides
- Track partner health across the portfolio, surfacing issues before they escalate
YOU SHOULD APPLY IF YOU...
- Have strong business development and relationship execution experience — you’ve run outreach, activated partnerships, and closed deals, not just managed relationships handed to you
- Bring a government or defense-adjacent background, with a feel for how government buyers think and how procurement cycles and partners (primes, sub-contractors, advisory firms, distributors) operate
- Have domain expertise with a data or intelligence product — you understand data licensing, API commercialization, and why sourcing and methodology matter to sophisticated buyers
- Execute with operational excellence — highly organized, you build systems without being managed and can run BD while managing a portfolio without dropping threads
- Write with sharp, professional communication skills — partner materials that are accurate and require minimal editing
- Have a builder mentality — you’ve built something from scratch and are comfortable creating structure amid ambiguity
BONUS POINTS IF YOU HAVE...
- Familiarity with compliance, risk, or due diligence verticals — enough to hold a credible conversation with an AML, compliance, or risk team
- Experience with global law firms or boutique advisory and research organizations as partners or customers
- Familiarity with government procurement vehicles such as GWACs, OTAs, GSA schedules, CLINs, and sole-source arrangements
- China, geopolitical, or supply chain risk domain knowledge
- Used HubSpot or a similar CRM/PRM
