WRITER is where the world's leading enterprises orchestrate AI-powered work. Our vision is to expand human capacity through superintelligence. And we're proving it's possible – through powerful, trustworthy AI that unites IT and business teams together to unlock enterprise-wide transformation. With WRITER's end-to-end platform, hundreds of companies like Mars, Marriott, Uber, and Vanguard are building and deploying AI agents that are grounded in their company's data and fueled by WRITER's enterprise-grade LLMs. Valued at $1.9B and backed by industry-leading investors including Premji Invest, Radical Ventures, and ICONIQ Growth, WRITER is rapidly cementing its position as the leader in enterprise generative AI.
Founded in 2020 with office hubs in San Francisco, New York City, Seattle, Austin, Chicago, and London, our team thinks big and moves fast, and we're looking for smart, hardworking builders and scalers to join us on our journey to create a better future of work with AI.
📐 About the role
Join WRITER's security team as a staff detection and response engineer and help protect the AI infrastructure that's transforming how the world works. You'll build sophisticated detection systems that identify attacks targeting our AI platform, training data, and model deployments while creating automated response capabilities that scale with our explosive growth. This isn't just traditional security work – you're defending cutting-edge AI/AGI systems against adversaries who are evolving their tactics as fast as AI itself advances.
This role combines hands-on security engineering with strategic thinking to stay ahead of novel threats that don't exist in textbooks yet. You'll be the operational arm of our security function, translating threat intelligence into real-time detections, coordinating incident response across multiple teams, and hunting for sophisticated attacks across GPU clusters and distributed training environments. If you're excited by the challenge of securing systems that are fundamentally different from anything you've protected before, this is your opportunity to define what AI security engineering looks like at scale.
You'll work closely with our AI Security research team, Cloud Infrastructure, Software Security Engineering, and AI researchers to build a defense-in-depth strategy that protects one of the most valuable AI platforms in the industry. The threats are real, the stakes are high, and the problems are intellectually fascinating.
This role can be based out of our San Francisco or Seattle office, reporting to our head of security operations.
🦸🏻♀️ What you’ll do
- Design and implement detection strategies that identify AI-specific threats including prompt injection, model extraction, data poisoning, adversarial examples, and unauthorized access to training datasets or model weights across our distributed infrastructure
- Build automated response playbooks and orchestration workflows that contain threats without human intervention, creating self-healing security systems that reduce mean time to response from hours to minutes while automatically remediating compromised inference endpoints
- Lead security incident response coordination across all teams (Cloud, AppSec, Enterprise, AI Security) when AI infrastructure or models are compromised, conducting forensic investigations on training pipeline attacks and model manipulation attempts while drafting clear incident communications for engineering and executive leadership
- Hunt proactively for sophisticated threats across GPU clusters and training infrastructure by analyzing model outputs for signs of compromise, reproducing AI-specific vulnerabilities from security research, and identifying visibility gaps in distributed training environments before adversaries exploit them
- Build detection-as-code frameworks with version control and automated deployment, onboard telemetry from AI training infrastructure and inference endpoints, and create dashboards that track model security metrics, GPU utilization patterns, and access to sensitive research data
- Collaborate cross-functionally as the operational security partner for all teams – translating AI Security's threat research into production detections, monitoring Cloud Infrastructure's GPU clusters for threats, detecting customer-impacting incidents for Software Security Engineering, and enabling responsible AI development through security guardrails
- Maintain 24/7 on-call rotation for critical AI security incidents, responding to real-time threats targeting our platform while continuously improving detection coverage and automation capabilities as our AI systems evolve

📐 About the role
At WRITER, our mission to expand human capacity with superintelligence relies on a foundational truth: our platform must be available, performant, and reliable, 24/7. As an Infrastructure engineer, you'll be at the heart of making this a reality, impacting every enterprise customer who trusts us with their AI-powered workflows. This isn't just about keeping the lights on; it's about pushing the boundaries of what's possible, proactively identifying and solving complex systemic challenges, and laying the groundwork for our rapid growth and the evolving demands of enterprise generative AI. You'll build resilient systems, automate across the stack, and champion reliability best practices, directly enabling our ambitious product roadmap and ensuring our customers always have access to the powerful tools they need.
This is a hybrid position, based out of our New York City, San Francisco, Seattle, or London hubs. You'll report to our director of engineering.
🦸🏻♀️ What you'll do
Technical
- Breadth across disciplines. Bring deep focus to one problem at a time, with the breadth to move between SRE, DevOps, Infrastructure, and Platform work over a quarter or two as the leverage shifts. This is not a thrash-every-week role — most of the time you're heads-down on one substantial initiative (the on-call posture, the release pipeline, the multi-region Terraform layout, the internal platform surface). Cross-layer fluency is what lets you pick the right next initiative; it isn't a weekly context-switch.
- Simplicity / via negativa. Challenge the status quo and remove toil before adding features — automate operational tasks and infrastructure management with Python or Go, reject tools that don't fit the problem, and treat manual on-call work as a defect to be designed out, not a status quo to be staffed up.
- Breadth across the stack. Design scalable, fault-tolerant infrastructure across AWS (preferred), GCP, and Azure, working fluently across Kubernetes, Helm, Terraform, and the supporting cloud and AI tooling that backs WRITER's high-traffic platform.
- AI in workflow. Run agents in your daily loop — Claude Code, Droid, Codex, internal skills — to investigate incidents, draft Terraform / Helm changes, write runbooks, scaffold tooling, and review PRs. Build the agentic setup as a collective surface: humans and digital teammates working as one team, with shared skills, shared context, and shared on-call workflows. Encode recurring infra tasks as internal skills any teammate (human or agent) can pick up and run, so the team's throughput compounds — not just your own.
- Debugging fluency. Lead incident response, post-mortems, and root-cause analyses — trace failures to the underlying problem (never the symptom), apply the learning back into the architecture, and prevent the same incident from happening twice.
Non-technical
- End-to-end ownership. Own the reliability, performance, and efficiency of WRITER's core services end-to-end — define and uphold the SLOs and error budgets, carry the on-call pager, and stand behind the outcome metric, not just the system you shipped.
- Strategic vs. tactical balance. Balance this week's critical work with the 6–12-month platform direction — ship the on-call-driving fix today while shaping the multi-year observability, cost, and reliability investments that move WRITER's enterprise customers.
- Cross-functional collaboration. Operate at the seams with product, security, and engineering peers — provide expert guidance on system design for reliability, performance, and scalability from conception through launch, Connect the infra agenda to product and revenue context, and disagree with evidence, not volume.
⭐️ What you need
Technical
- Track record. 5+ years of experience in infrastructure engineering, DevOps, or a similar role focused on building and operating large-scale, high-availability production systems at a high-growth product company.
- Breadth. Experience running containerisation in production (a real cluster, not a lab), with experience in Helm and Terraform or Pulumi on at least one major cloud (AWS preferred), plus good proficiency in Python or Go for automation and tooling.
- AI in workflow. AI is part of how you ship, not a thing you've read about — agentic tooling (Claude Code, Droid, Codex, internal skills) is in your daily loop, you've built or adopted AI-assisted workflows others now use, and you have strong opinions on where it's unreliable. This is a hard requirement, not a bonus. Candidates whose actual daily workflow does not already include AI tooling will not be advanced.
- First-principles + decision-making. Demonstrated ability to Challenge the status quo, proactively identify systemic weaknesses, and propose innovative solutions to complex reliability problems — reason from constraints and failure modes (not analogy or vendor defaults), name the tradeoff in business terms (reliability vs. velocity, cost vs. blast radius, standardisation vs. one-off), and reject the "best practices" answer when it doesn't fit the problem.
- Reversibility & blast-radius. Make reversible calls by default — write the rollback before you touch production, work fluently with monitoring and logging stacks (Prometheus, Grafana, ELK or equivalent), and stress the system in safe places so it comes back stronger.
Non-technical
- Cross-functional collaboration. Excellent communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills, with a talent for building strong relationships and Connecting with cross-functional teams — surface non-goals before anyone asks, and partner with product, security, and platform peers as one delivery surface.
- Autonomy & end-to-end ownership. A strong sense of ownership and accountability, eager to Own mission-critical systems and drive them toward peak performance and unparalleled reliability. At least one 0-to-1 infrastructure build you owned end-to-end, with the outcome metric attached.
🎁 Bonus if you have
- Software-engineering depth. A software-engineering background, not only config and scripting — you've designed, built, and shipped non-trivial production code (services, libraries, internal frameworks) in Python, Go, or a comparable language, you can read and modify the codebases your infrastructure runs, and you move between infra automation and feature engineering without changing brains.
🍩 Benefits & perks (US Full-time employees)

- Excellent communication skills that allow you to translate complex security concepts into clear recommendations for both technical and non-technical audiences—you can explain why something matters and motivate teams to action
- A builder's mindset that looks for opportunities to automate, scale, and empower rather than create bottlenecks—you understand that security enables the business, not blocks it
- Alignment with WRITER's values of Connect (building strong relationships across teams), Challenge (pushing the boundaries of what's possible in AI security), and Own (taking end-to-end responsibility for the security of our platform)
- *This role is open to Mid, Sr. and Staff level candidates

🚀 About WRITER
WRITER is where the world's leading enterprises orchestrate AI-powered work. Our vision is to expand human capacity through super intelligence.
In a world where every AI company sounds the same, WRITER is building something different. We believe a great brand doesn’t just look good. It earns trust, sharpens conviction, and gives people the confidence to act. We’re looking for someone who believes that just as deeply as we do.
Reporting into the VP of brand and communications, you’ll drive ownership of the WRITER brand, internal and external, from campaign strategy to the systems that make great brand work scalable. You’ll help shape how the world sees us, how our employees feel about us, how our product expresses us, and how AI makes all of that more powerful. If you’re a brand leader who thinks in systems, ships with taste, and is genuinely excited about what agentic AI makes possible for marketing, this is your role.
🦸🏻♀️ What you’ll do
- Brand strategy and campaigns - You’ll lead brand campaign strategy from idea through activation — not just the brief, but the conviction behind it. You’ll develop concepts worth executing, manage the work end-to-end, and hold the bar for what “on-brand” actually means. You’ll ensure every campaign builds something cumulative: a brand that people recognize, trust, and root for. You’ll partner closely with product marketing on integrated go-to-market campaigns, ensuring brand and demand work in lockstep.
- The full customer and employee journey - Great brands don’t live in one channel. You’ll activate WRITER’s brand across the customer journey, and bring the same intentionality to the employee experience. Onboarding, all-hands, internal comms: the brand lives there too, and you’ll make sure it shows up with the same quality and care.
- AI-native brand operations - WRITER brings the power of agentic marketing to the world’s best brands — and we run on our own platform. You’ll own WRITER’s internal WRITER instance as the operational backbone of our brand: encoding our voice, guidelines, and creative standards into brand skills that the entire company relies on to produce high-quality, on-brand work at scale. You’ll build and maintain the skill library that makes WRITER employees faster, sharper, and more consistent — without losing what makes us distinctively us. You’ll partner with product and engineering to translate that front-line experience into product insights, acting as an in-house advisor to make WRITER stronger for brand leaders everywhere.
- Brand in the product - WRITER’s biggest brand touchpoint is the product itself. You’ll work with product and design to ensure our brand identity is felt inside the platform: in the copy, the experience, the moments that tell customers they’re working with something built with genuine craft and conviction.
- Agency management - You’ll be WRITER’s day-to-day lead for our brand agency — setting the brief, driving the relationship, and making sure partners deliver work that actually moves us forward, giving them a clear point of view to work from.
- Measurement and brand intelligence - What doesn’t get measured doesn’t get protected. You’ll define and own the metrics that matter — brand awareness, perception, campaign performance, pipeline influence — and use those signals to continuously sharpen strategy. You’ll conduct ongoing competitive and market research to keep WRITER’s brand ahead of the conversation, not just part of it.
- Brand Central: the system behind the brand - You’ll build and own WRITER’s brand repository, creating a single, scalable source of truth for assets, guidelines, templates, and toolkits. Working hand-in-hand with the creative team, you’ll turn our brand into something the whole company can activate confidently without compromising consistency. You’ll also champion brand adoption across the organization, running enablement that makes internal teams genuine brand ambassadors.
⭐️ What you need
- You’ve spent 7+ years building brands that stand for something, ideally at a high-growth B2B technology company where brand was a strategic imperative.
- You’ve owned the strategy and the execution. You know the difference between a brand that looks good and a brand that creates belief, and you’ve built the latter.
- You’re genuinely excited about agentic AI and its role in brand, and you bring a real point of view. You understand how AI can encode brand standards, scale creative output, and protect consistency without flattening distinctiveness. Ideally, you’ve worked with AI tools in a brand context and have opinions about what works and what doesn’t.
- You’ve managed agencies well, which means you’ve written briefs that are actually useful and given feedback that makes work better instead of blander.
- You’ve worked in or alongside product teams, and you understand how brand translates into product experiences. You’ve fought those fights and know how to win them.
- You’ve built brand systems that scale — asset libraries, guidelines, repositories, brand skills or AI-powered toolkits — that genuinely help teams create on-brand work instead of just paying lip service to the guidelines.
- You’re fluent in brand metrics. You know how to measure what matters, connect brand performance to business outcomes, and use data to defend and evolve strategy.
- You communicate with precision and confidence. You can write a sharp brief, present a campaign with conviction, and tell a stakeholder why brand investment matters without resorting to platitudes.
- You operate with low ego and high standards. You know how to build shared ownership and bring people along, because brand only works when the whole company believes in it.
