Role Overview:
As an Underwriter / Sr. Underwriter, Professional Liability you’ll build out a new book of business centered around MPL and additional lines as they open up. Your impact goes beyond production–you’ll have influence over our GTM strategy, represent At-Bay at various marketing events and act as an SME to our internal teams. You will be responsible for reviewing and underwriting complex Professional Liability risks, developing pricing and risk strategies, and building and maintaining strong relationships with brokers and clients.
Responsibilities:
Executing marketing plans to increase market share with preferred brokers. Includes new business and retention goals.
Manage and grow At-bay’s core broker base and GWP, making sure our brokers are getting world-class service at all times.
Propose & negotiate price, coverage, and terms for insurance policies, and actively identify account rounding opportunities
Solicit and analyze risk within At-bay’s guidelines and ensure proper documentation. service existing renewals and new business portfolio
Collaborate with cyber analytics, product, marketing and other parts of At-bay to make sure brokers are getting the best At-bay has to offer
Work with technology and data teams to create tools to enhance the underwriting process
Attributes and Qualifications:
Hands-on experience with MPL/ professional liability insurance underwriting fundamentals and principles.
You possess solid knowledge of specialty commercial underwriting, and insurance industry theories and practices
Strong technology affinity, ability to work with advanced analytics software

Location: Preference will be given to candidates who can work a hybrid schedule in our NYC office
Our estimated base pay range for an Underwriter is $90,000-$115,000 per year and a Senior Underwriter role is $110,000-$145,000 per year. Base salary is determined by a variety of factors including but not limited to market data, location, internal equitability, domain knowledge, experiences and skills. Role Overview:
The Cyber Advisor for the Post-Cyber Event Hardening service is essential in helping customers enhance their security posture following a cyber event. This role bridges the gap between recovery and long-term resilience by implementing and optimizing technical security controls directly within the customer's environment to minimize future risk.
Engagement-Based Responsibilities:
Assessment & Prioritization
Conduct targeted reviews of the insured’s environment to identify security control gaps
Analyze and prioritize system weaknesses across cloud and on-premise infrastructure to focus remediation on the highest-risk areas
Implementation & Hardening
Deploy security improvements, including advanced endpoint protection, email security tools, and modern network access controls
Integrate zero-trust principles and robust identity protections to ensure resilient access management
Execute technical hardening measures to eliminate common attack vectors and secure critical infrastructure components
Apply technical remediations to align the environment with At-Bay’s security standards
Strategic Resilience & Advisory
Achieve a demonstrably stronger security posture for the insured than existed prior to the cyber event
Translate technical improvements into strategic business value, helping the insured build a sustainable culture of security
Internal Responsibilities:
Security Product & Tooling Evolution
Continuously evaluate and update technical “betterment” playbooks and toolsets to stay ahead of evolving threat actor tactics
Test and vet new security solutions to ensure the service utilizes the most effective and reliable technologies available
Cross-Functional Intelligence Sharing
Provide anonymized insights from engagements to help internal teams refine risk models and security requirements
Collaborate with internal teams to align technical remediation efforts with policy standards and emerging insurance trends
Knowledge Leadership & Training
Act as a subject matter expert for the broader security and insurance teams on the "what and how" of modern infrastructure hardening
Create internal anonymized post-mortems to demonstrate the ROI of the service and highlight successful security transformations
Continuous Threat Research
Stay current on the threat landscape to ensure hardening steps remain effective against the latest attack vectors

Gain a deep understanding of At-Bay’s business—specifically how our insurance products, distribution, and technology stack integrate with the Post-Cyber Event Hardening service to serve our customers

Contribute to the refinement and scalability of the Post-Cyber Event Hardening service by updating technical "betterment" playbooks and vetting new security solutions

What you’ve accomplished already:
Proven experience in security hardening, including security control implementation and optimization across diverse, complex environments
Deep technical knowledge in deploying and configuring Endpoint Detection and Response (EDR/MDR), Identity and Access Management (IAM), and Email Security solutions
Extensive experience implementing Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) and Active Directory/Entra ID security improvements
Expertise in securing network architectures, including firewall remediation, VPN, ZTNA, SASE, and cloud environment hardening (Azure, AWS, or GCP)
Excellent communication skills with the ability to guide customers through technical remediation steps during high-stress, post-event periods
Proven ability to identify and categorize security control gaps, providing tailored recommendations and applying rapid, high-impact remediations
A collaborative mindset with the ability to work effectively alongside internal and external teams to achieve technical remediation
Experience collecting and analyzing data from various security tools to drive informed risk management decisions and proactive defense strategies

You’ll join a growing team of actuaries and actuarial analysts of diverse backgrounds and report to our Actuarial Director. You’ll be surrounded by a team that loves what they do, leverages technology to improve efficiency & minimize duplicative work, and recognizes the enormous responsibility that they have – to support key business decisions with data backed insights and a deep understanding of insurance risk.
Role overview:
Your work will directly contribute to At-Bay’s risk assessment framework that helps with data-driven decisions involving millions of dollars of exposure. This is a multidisciplinary role that includes developing deep cyber and tech knowledge, business acumen, research, and analytical skills. This is also a hands-on operational role where you’ll see in house submission, quotes and binds and understand how each risk decision will impact on the business.
You will manage the overall program profitability, improve pricing accuracy, and work cross-functionally with Insurance & Tech Product, Underwriting, Claims, and Decision Engine teams on the implementation of those products. You will be responsible for leading and supporting a wide variety of pricing and underwriting related initiatives, quantifying the impacts and implications of those initiatives on the business and identifying ways to the overall economics of the business.

As a Senior Actuary you will also be expected to manage up and cross functionally across various teams.

You’ll understand At-Bay’s internal data structure and develop key relationships across the business
You’ll have utilized the existing Cyber and Tech E&O rate plans, rater, forecasting tools and related data sources to analyze product performance and recommended actions to leadership based on your findings
You’ll have a strong understanding of internal KPIs, developed benchmarks, and reviewed existing pricing segmentation and the overall rate adequacy of all products
You’ll identify areas of improvement in our systems and processes and suggested solutions
By 6 months...
You’ll have proposed and implemented changes to the Cyber and Tech E&O rate plan, detailed rating rules and associated business logic for the new product and achieved alignment from key stakeholders
You’ll have worked with the Insurance Product head and other Tech Product, Underwriting, Claims, and Decision Engine teams to develop new product(s), support new product implementation and developed new tools to measure performance
You’ll have collaborated with our Cyber Research team to identify and analyze potential new features to be introduced to the rate plan, shared your research with key stakeholders and implemented it into our production risk model
You’ll help coach individuals and managers to understand actuarial analytics, Cyber pricing and risk, and how it differs from traditional pricing and other lines of business

We believe InsurSec is an $80B market opportunity and we are excited to expand our DFIR team in order to help expand our reach and influence in the business and security community, of which we serve 35,000 customers.
The Role:
Our Digital Forensics and Incident Response (DFIR) teams deliver incident investigation and response services to At-Bay insureds via:
Forensically sound collection, transmission, and storage of digital evidence
Analysis of digital evidence to identify indicators of compromise and adversary activity
Development of incident timelines and theories of compromise
Identification of incident root causes
Participation in threat actor negotiations as necessary (e.g., ransom negotiations, etc.)
Participation in incident recovery (e.g., restoration of data from backups, reimaging workstations and servers, rebuilding network infrastructure, etc.) activities as necessary
Development and delivery of incident reports to document key incident details for engagement stakeholders including executive leaders for insureds, breach coach attorneys, and At-Bay claims management staff as necessary
Development and delivery of recommendations to mitigate the risk of future incidents for impacted insureds
Development and delivery of incident response training and simulations for targeted insureds
Key skills:
Previous digital forensics and incident response experience
Strong oral and written communication skills
Previous hands-on experience performing digital forensics and incident response, including several of the following:
Business Email Compromise
Ransomware
Digital evidence collection and analysis
Development and analysis of cyber threat intelligence
Leadership of or participation in investigations involving digital evidence
Intrusion detection / cyber threat hunting
Malware analysis
Incident recovery activities such as restoration of data from backups, operation of decryptor tools, etc.
Previous hands-on experience working in information technology operations (e.g., Network Operations Center, Security Operations Center, Incident Response Team, etc.)
Strong knowledge of Windows and Unix/Linux operating systems
Expertise in threat hunting, network forensics, and EDR / EPP technologies
Minimum requirements:
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent
Minimum of 4 years of experience in cybersecurity operations, incident response, incident recovery, or another security discipline
Willingness to travel as needed to perform job functions
Preferred requirements:
Significant undergraduate or graduate coursework in computer science, computer engineering, information systems, or cybersecurity
Previous background in law enforcement or government/military with experience leading complex technical investigations

The Role:
Cybersecurity Analysts focused on Digital Forensics and Incident Response (DFIR) deliver incident investigation and response services to At-Bay insureds via:
Forensically sound collection, transmission, and storage of digital evidence
Analysis of digital evidence to identify indicators of compromise and adversary activity
Development of incident timelines and theories of compromise
Identification of incident root causes
Participation in threat actor negotiations as necessary (e.g., ransom negotiations, etc.)
Participation in incident recovery (e.g., restoration of data from backups, reimaging workstations and servers, rebuilding network infrastructure, etc.) activities as necessary
Development and delivery of incident reports to document key incident details for engagement stakeholders including executive leaders for insureds, breach coach attorneys, and At-Bay claims management staff as necessary
Development and delivery of recommendations to mitigate the risk of future incidents for impacted insureds
Development and delivery of incident response training and simulations for targeted insureds
Key skills:
Previous digital forensics and incident response experience
Strong oral and written communication skills
Previous hands-on experience performing digital forensics and incident response, including several of the following:
Business Email Compromise
Ransomware
Digital evidence collection and analysis
Development and analysis of cyber threat intelligence
Leadership of or participation in investigations involving digital evidence
Intrusion detection / cyber threat hunting
Malware analysis
Incident recovery activities such as restoration of data from backups, operation of decryptor tools, etc.
Previous hands-on experience working in information technology operations (e.g., Network Operations Center, Security Operations Center, Incident Response Team, etc.)
Minimum requirements:
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent
Minimum of 2 years of experience in cybersecurity operations, incident response, incident recovery, or another security discipline
Willingness to travel as needed to perform job functions
Preferred requirements:
Significant undergraduate or graduate coursework in computer science, computer engineering, information systems, or cybersecurity
Previous background in law enforcement or government/military with experience leading complex technical investigations

Underwriting
Our Underwriting Team has helps brokers navigate complex cyber and specialty insurance products. The team has skilled underwriters in every major U.S. region, plus the technology, tools and resources to help deliver top-tier service. At-Bay offers up to $5M in limits to businesses up to $5B in revenue for both primary and excess Cyber and Technology E&O coverage, and up to $5m in limits to business up to $100M in revenue for primary Miscellaneous Professional Liability coverage. Claims
The Claims Team works closely with our Security Team to provide active risk monitoring for our insureds and with our Product and Underwriting Teams to improve At-Bay’s ability to underwrite cyber risk. Each team member may handle roughly 80-120 1st and 3rd-party complex claims at any time. Examples of claims include data breaches, ransomware, and financial fraud. As proud ambassadors of At-Bay, the Claims Team is an incredibly collegial, collaborative, and high-performing team with a desire to have an impact far deeper than claims management.
Strategy
The Corporate Strategy Team is responsible for setting and aligning our Executive Team on the company direction, driving the execution of key strategic initiatives and incubating new business areas.
Risk
The Risk Team ensures the production quality of our core underwriting engine, which directly impacts billions of dollars of exposure. They guard our underwriting performance by enabling effective pricing and automatic decision rules. The Risk Team is responsible for crafting risk hypotheses and developing and tracking appropriate metrics. This team collaborates with cross-functional teams to push insights to production at a record speed.
