Software Engineer (TypeScript/JavaScript)
Remote / Boston / Salt Lake City / San Francisco / New York
Apply
The financial industry is growing at a record pace, but our data providers are still stuck in the past — with cumbersome onboarding processes, complicated APIs, slow infrastructure, and expensive licensing costs.
Databento is the market data platform for modern finance. The company provides real-time and historical data across futures, options, and equities through a unified API. By owning the entire market data stack end-to-end, Databento is the first platform of its kind to combine the performance and reliability demanded by the world's leading trading firms with a dramatically simpler developer experience. Our team includes alumni of Two Sigma, Citadel Securities, Flow Traders, Tower Research, PDT Partners, SIG, and other top quantitative firms.
We're looking for a midlevel or senior IC to join our Platform/API engineering team. You'll be responsible for building, maintaining, and promoting our JavaScript client library, working closely with our design team to bring production-ready interfaces to life. This role is primarily focused on TypeScript/JavaScript, with some full-stack/Python work as well.
Responsibilities
Own, build, and maintain our JavaScript client library, ensuring it is robust, well-tested, and easy for external users to integrate with.
Integrate native libraries into JavaScript/TypeScript code using tools like N-API, node-addon-api, or Wasm.
Build responsive, performant front-end applications using React, Redux, Vite, Web Workers, and WebSockets.
Contribute to full-stack projects, including backend work in Python (or Rust), REST API design, and database/migration work.
Work between design and engineering teams to translate designs (e.g. Figma handoffs) into production-ready components and design systems.
Set up and maintain CI/CD pipelines, including publishing to npm.
Document components using Storybook or similar tooling.
Collaborate cross-functionally to ensure smooth feature rollouts and updates.
Preferred background
Experience working between high-performing design and engineering teams, including production-ready design systems and tools (e.g. Figma handoffs).
Proficiency with React, Redux, Vite, Web Workers, and WebSockets.
Background in trading, market data, or quantitative finance.
Hands-on backend experience building APIs, working with databases, and migrations.
Full-stack experience with backends in Python or Rust, including REST API design.
Familiarity with Storybook or similar component documentation tooling.
Good communication skills and work ethic for a remote workplace.

We accommodate 100% remote work, with teammates living around the globe and paid in their local currency.
Responsibilities
As a Financial Data Sales Associate based in the EMEA region, you will oversee the full scope of sales at Databento. This includes the following:
Own the technical sales process, from answering technical customer inquiries and providing data samples to solving data-related issues that our customers raise.
Create common examples and use-cases with market data, with examples in Python, C++, and/or Rust.
Gather customer feedback, testimonials, case studies, and more.
Establish and maintain accurate, timely, and documented forecasting and record-keeping procedures, keeping our CRM up-to-date and organized.
Build a network of executive relationships across the industry and with key partners and customers.
Stay up-to-date with industry trends, market dynamics, and competitor activities to identify potential business opportunities and adapt sales strategies accordingly.
Collaborate across teams to align sales efforts with overall company objectives and ensure a seamless customer experience.
Desired Qualifications
The ideal candidate has experienced the end-to-end sales pipeline, including top-of-funnel, upselling, channel sales, customer success, and forecasting. Below are other skills that we look for:
Understand and communicate with our user base of developers and quants.
Experience with quant trading and market microstructure.
Extreme attention to detail and record-keeping, as well as the ability to automate processes in HubSpot.
Professional communication skills that align with the tone of an institutional financial product.
White-glove management of the sales cycle with continual buy-in from the customer, discovering the user's pain points, signs of friction, being honest when our product isn't the best fit, not being too pushy or salesy, and knowing when to continue vs. back off.
Readiness to work within a startup environment with limited resources and personnel.
As a bonus: Active usage of GitHub, knowledge of enough C++, Python, and/or Rust to help answer client inquiries.

We offer health, dental, disability, and life insurance benefits, as well as 401(k) matching for full-time employees. We accommodate 100% remote work, with teammates living around the globe and paid in their local currency.
