HSE Lead, Global Programs and Systems
About the Company
The mining industry has steadily become worse at finding new ore deposits, requiring >10X more capital to make discoveries compared to 30 years ago. The easy-to-find, near-surface deposits have largely been found, and the industry has chronically under-invested in new exploration technology, relying on antiquated manual mining techniques– even as demand accelerates for copper, lithium, and other metals to build electric vehicles, renewable energy, and data centers.
KoBold builds AI models for mineral exploration and deploys those models—alongside our novel sensors—to guide decisions on KoBold-owned-and-operated exploration programs. In the eight years since founding, KoBold has become by far both the largest independent mineral exploration company and the largest exploration technology developer. Our data scientists and software engineers, who come from leading technology companies, jointly lead exploration programs with our renowned exploration geologists.
KoBold has proven its first discovery with materially less capital than the industry average and found one of the best copper deposits ever discovered: the copper is far more concentrated than the global average of copper mines, and this asset alone is expected to generate meaningful revenue for decades. KoBold has a portfolio of more than 80 other projects, each of which has the potential for another high-quality discovery.
KoBold is privately held; investors include institutional asset managers T. Rowe Price and Canada Pension Plan Investments; technology venture capitalists Andreessen Horowitz, Breakthrough Energy Ventures, BOND Capital, Durable Capital, StepStone, and Standard Investments; and natural resources companies Equinor, BHP, and Mitsubishi.
About The Position:
KoBold operates exploration programs across Africa, North America, Europe, and Australia, and is scaling faster than any independent explorer in the industry. As HSE Lead, Programs and Systems, you will design and own the HSE management system, digital tooling, and training infrastructure that keep people safe across every jurisdiction we operate in.
You will build the systems, standards, and software that empower safety ownership at the field level. If you have ever wished you could tear up your company's HSE stack and rebuild it with modern tools, an AI native workflow, adequate resourcing, and strong executive support to do it right, this role is that opportunity.
Additional responsibilities will include:
Own the KoBold HSE Management System end to end, including architecture, document hierarchy, review frequency, and continuous improvement aligned to ISO 45001.
Own KoBold's digital HSE stack, including DATS, Forwood, and any additional platforms. Lead vendor evaluation, workflow configuration, integrations, and administration.
Design HSE analytics that field teams actually use, including leading and lagging indicators, real time dashboards, and communications that surface risk before it becomes an incident.
Own KoBold's AI in HSE strategy. Identify high leverage applications that optimize or replace existing software tools, facilitate risk assessment, critical risk verification, observations and inspections, etc.
Own the global document library for all HSE standards, programs, and operating procedures.
Own the global training strategy and the Learning Management System, including role based curriculum, certification tracking, compliance reporting, competency verification, and content building.
Design cultural initiatives that engage field crews and contractors, not just corporate, including recognition, campaigns, safety moments, and leading indicator storytelling.
Partner with regional HSE Managers and Field Operations leaders. You provide the platform, standards, data, and analytics; they deliver in the field.
Directly support HSE for field campaigns, requiring intermittent travel to field projects across the globe.
What You Will Bring (Must Have)
Five or more years in HSE with meaningful time owning or administering enterprise HSE software (DATS, Intelex, Cority, Enablon, Sphera, VelocityEHS, or comparable).
Demonstrated experience building or materially improving an HSE management system aligned to ISO 45001, ANSI Z10, or an equivalent framework.
Track record designing HSE training programs and administering a Learning Management System.
Comfort working across multiple jurisdictions and regulatory regimes.
Strong written communication. This role produces the standards other people follow.
Ability to lead through influence, driving change across regional operations, field teams, and executive stakeholders without direct authority.
Proficiency with document control platforms and modern collaboration stacks such as SharePoint, Confluence, and Google Workspace.
Ability to travel to remote exploration sites and pass site specific medical fitness screening when required.
Bonus (Nice to Have)
Experience in mining, exploration, oil and gas, construction, or another high risk industry.
ISO 45001 Lead Auditor, CSP, CIH, ASP, or NEBOSH Diploma.
Experience using AI or LLM tooling to build HSE workflows (document search, incident triage, content generation).
BI and analytics experience with leading and lagging indicators (Power BI, Tableau, or SQL).
Multi country experience, especially in Africa or emerging markets.
Prior experience transitioning off a third party HSE provider to in house capability.
Familiarity with low code or scripting tools (Retool, Airtable, Python) for building lightweight HSE tools.
Compensation and Benefits
Base salary range: $125,000 to $170,000 USD, depending on experience and location. Total compensation also includes equity and a comprehensive benefits package covering health, dental, vision, retirement, paid time off, parental leave, and a home office stipend.
Location, Travel
Remote, based in North America. Expect roughly 10 to 15 percent travel to KoBold sites globally, weighted toward the first 12 months as you establish standards and build relationships.
Work Authorization
Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States or Canada.
How to Apply
Please submit your application to JOBS@koboldmetals.com. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis.
Equal Opportunity
KoBold Metals is an equal opportunity workplace and an affirmative action employer. We are committed to equal employment opportunities for people of any race, color, ancestry, religion, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, marital status, national origin, age, citizenship, disability, or veteran status.

Rowe Price and Canada Pension Plan Investments; technology venture capitalists Andreessen Horowitz, Breakthrough Energy Ventures, BOND Capital, Durable Capital, StepStone, and Standard Investments; and natural resources companies Equinor, BHP, and Mitsubishi.
About the Role
KoBold’s IT function supports a globally distributed team of ~280 geoscientists, data scientists, and engineers working across North America, Zambia, the DRC, and field exploration sites around the world. As we scale, our IT needs are evolving rapidly—from reactive, break/fix helpdesk support toward proactive, automated IT operations that work seamlessly across geographies, including remote field sites with limited connectivity.
This role includes but is not limited to, endpoint management, software procurement and renewals, identity and access administration, license optimization, vendor management, employee onboarding and offboarding, hardware lifecycle management, and IT training. You’ll lead a team of IT support staff, set technical direction, manage the annual software budget, and be the person who makes sure nothing falls through the cracks—renewals don’t expire, new hires have everything they need on day one, and the fleet is healthy and compliant.
This is a player-coach role. You’ll spend meaningful time building and configuring systems yourself—writing Okta provisioning workflows, managing Jamf and Intune policies in Terraform, scripting automation for repetitive work—while also coaching and mentoring your direct reports, setting priorities, and raising the bar for what IT operations looks like at a fast-moving exploration technology company.
Responsibilities
Endpoint Management & Fleet Operations
Help build IT roadmap, setting technical direction for endpoint management, fleet automation, and IT operations across all KoBold offices and field sites in 10+ countries
Design and implement zero-touch provisioning and automated reimaging workflows for macOS (Jamf) and Windows (Intune) endpoints
Build endpoint monitoring, alerting, and fleet health dashboards to shift IT from reactive to proactive support
Drive device lifecycle management including EoL/EoS tracking, hardware refresh planning, and inventory management across Jamf, Intune, CrowdStrike, and related tooling
Create self-service application deployment and access workflows to reduce helpdesk volume and empower employees
Apply DevOps principles to IT operations: configuration-as-code (e.g. managing Intune policies via Terraform), infrastructure automation, version-controlled policies, and repeatable processes
Own internet reliability and network performance at all global remote KoBold sites
Software Procurement, Licensing & Vendor Management
Manage the full software procurement lifecycle: new purchases, renewals, expansions, and cancellations, ensuring user access is never disrupted by lapsed licenses or last-minute renewals
Own and drive execution of the annual software budget, including process improvements year-over-year and proactive renewal pipeline visibility for legal and finance
Optimize license utilization across the SaaS portfolio—track usage, right-size seat counts, consolidate redundant tools, and negotiate pricing with vendors
Coordinate with legal on contract review, working within the existing procurement process to move quickly on low-risk purchases while ensuring appropriate review for larger spend
Onboard new SaaS applications with proper Okta integration (SSO, SCIM) before launch, and manage decommissioning of deprecated tools
Identity, Access & Employee Lifecycle
Own Okta administration including SSO integrations, SCIM provisioning, group management, access request workflows, and lifecycle automation
Manage Google Workspace administration, including license management, security settings, and break-glass super-admin governance
Build automation for minimal-touch employee onboarding and offboarding—ensuring new hires are fully provisioned on day one and departing employees are cleanly deprovisioned
Support AI tooling rollout (Claude Desktop, Claude Code, and related tools) across the endpoint fleet, including deployment, configuration, and employee training
Team Leadership & Training
Supervise and mentor IT support staff, providing technical coaching, priority-setting, performance management, and career development
Develop and maintain IT training programs for new hires and ongoing employee enablement, including documentation, video walkthroughs, and live onboarding sessions
Provide helpdesk backup on high-volume days, modeling the standard of responsiveness and quality you expect from the team
Cross-Functional Collaboration
Learn about mineral exploration by working closely with exploration teams, including time in the field in remote operations
Collaborate with infrastructure engineering and security teams on cross-cutting initiatives including observability, access controls, endpoint security posture, and incident response
Partner across the company to contribute to specification, vendor selection, and change management on new software requests
Partner with finance on budget tracking, invoice approvals, and AFE submissions for software spend
Work with legal to streamline the contract review pipeline, maintain lead times on renewals, and advocate for tiered review processes that match risk to effort
Coordinate digitization efforts across the globe, ensuring consistent standards and tooling for converting physical records to digital archives at field and office sites
Qualifications
5+ years of experience in IT engineering, IT management, or a similar role combining hands-on technical depth with operational ownership
Strong experience with MDM platforms, particularly Jamf (macOS) and Microsoft Intune (Windows), including policy configuration, automated enrollment, compliance enforcement, and ideally infrastructure-as-code approaches (e.g. Terraform)
Experience with identity and access management platforms (Okta strongly preferred), including SSO integration, SCIM provisioning, access request workflows, and lifecycle automation
Experience managing software procurement and renewals: specification and change management, vendor negotiation, license optimization, renewal pipeline management, and budget ownership
Hands-on experience building zero-touch provisioning, automated reimaging, and self-service deployment workflows
Experience with endpoint monitoring and fleet management at scale, including remote/distributed environments
People management or technical lead experience: demonstrated ability to coach, mentor, and grow IT staff while maintaining high execution standards
Strong scripting skills (Python, Bash, PowerShell, or similar) for building automation and tooling
Intellectually curious; eager to learn about the substance of mineral exploration and exploration technology
Excellent communication and collaboration skills—comfortable working across disciplines with engineers, scientists, legal, finance, and leadership in a remote-first environment
Proven ability to take ownership: you build the roadmap, do the research, implement the solution, write the documentation, and communicate the rollout
Strong prioritization instincts—you can look at a long list of IT initiatives and distinguish what actually matters from nice-to-haves, and you can explain why
Comfort with ambiguity and a dynamic work environment; eagerness to take on an evolving range of responsibilities at a fast-growing company
Experience supporting global teams across multiple time zones is a strong plus
Familiarity with Google Workspace administration, CrowdStrike, Datadog, or similar tooling is a plus
What to Expect

About the Role
We're looking for a sharp, systems-minded Executive Assistant to support our Chief Investment Officer based in London, and 2 VPs (one in London and one in South Africa). You'll be embedded in a fast-moving, Slack-first culture where things change quickly, and attention to detail is the difference between smooth and chaotic. You'll be trusted with sensitive information and high-visibility communications that touch every employee at KoBold.
We take hiring seriously, because we're building a team, not just filling a seat. If you move forward, you'll complete a timed written assessment designed to test your judgment, resourcefulness, and communication under pressure. From there, you'll interview with our EA team and, if you advance, with the executives you'd be supporting directly. We're a remote company, which means communication and collaboration aren't nice-to-haves. They're the foundation of how we operate. Our EA team is tight-knit and genuinely invested in each other's success, and we're looking for someone who will add to that, not just show up and do their own thing. The process takes time by design. We want to make sure this is the right fit for you as much as it is for us.
Responsibilities
Executive Support
Own complex, frequently shifting calendars for two busy executives
Coordinate meetings across time zones; manage last-minute changes without losing composure
Arrange domestic and international travel including flights, hotels, and ground transport, and handle changes quickly
Prepare agendas and briefing materials so executives walk into every meeting ready
Take notes and track follow-ups when requested
Handle expense reports, approvals, and administrative tasks with speed and accuracy
Triage inbound requests and route communications through Slack and other tools
Qualifications
You're the kind of EA who doesn't need to be told what to do twice and doesn't need hand-holding to get things done. You can operate independently, manage competing priorities, and make smart judgment calls on your own. At the same time, you know that great EA work is a team sport. You're a natural collaborator who shows up for the broader EA team, shares context freely, and pitches in when someone else needs support.
You communicate with precision: short, clear, no fluff, because you know everyone around you is busy. You're a natural relationship-builder who earns trust quickly and protects it fiercely. You treat sensitive information like it was your own.
You bring positive energy to every collaboration and have a natural ability to motivate and enthuse the people around you, even when the work is demanding or the timeline is tight. You have a sunny disposition that's genuinely yours. You understand that you're often the messenger in the middle, and you don't take a curt Slack reply personally.
Minimum Qualifications
Based in London (close to Shoreditch is a plus!)
7+ years supporting senior executives, ideally two or more simultaneously, in a fast-moving environment
Exceptional organizational and project management skills; you've owned multi-step workflows with multiple stakeholders before
Flawless attention to detail; you're the person who catches the typo in the deck title
Comfortable in real-time communication tools (Slack preferred) and quick to learn new systems
Already experimenting with AI, or excited to learn
Professional, discreet, and unflappable under pressure
Available evenings and weekends when the situation calls for it
A genuine team player who collaborates well with other EAs and pitches in beyond your immediate scope when needed
We'd love for the right opportunity to bring you to KoBold someday. If you don't yet meet the minimum qualifications for this role, we'd encourage you to hold off and apply when the timing is right. Because our applicant tracking system retains application history, submitting before you're a strong match could affect how your profile is viewed for future roles. We'd much rather see you apply when you're set up to shine!
Preferred
Experience supporting U.S.-based executives or working in an American high-growth company
Familiar with executives who work across evenings and weekends when necessary
Comfortable working across time zones with global teams
Experience with a culture of high ownership and responsiveness

About the company:
The mining industry has steadily become worse at finding new ore deposits, requiring >10X more capital to make discoveries compared to 30 years ago. The easy-to-find, near-surface deposits have largely been found, and the industry has chronically under-invested in new exploration technology, relying on the manual techniques of yesteryear – even as demand accelerates for copper, lithium, and other metals to build electric vehicles, renewable energy, and data centers.
KoBold builds AI models for mineral exploration and deploys those models—alongside our novel sensors—to guide decisions on KoBold-owned-and-operated exploration programs. In the six years since founding, KoBold has become by far both the largest independent mineral exploration company and the largest exploration technology developer.
KoBold has a portfolio of more than 60 other projects, each of which has the potential for another high-quality discovery.
KoBold is privately held; investors include institutional asset managers T. Rowe Rice and Canada Pension Plan Investments; technology venture capitalists Andreessen Horowitz, Breakthrough Energy Ventures, BOND Capital, and Standard Investments; and natural resources companies Equinor, BHP, and Mitsubishi.
Responsibilities:
Build intuitive and elegant user experiences to empower fellow KoBolders with backgrounds in geology, geophysics, geochemistry, and data science.
Own and improve KoBold’s existing web apps that manage data upload, discovery, search, and visualization.
Collaborate with scientists to architect new tools to support complex, interactive 2D/3D geospatial visualizations, plotting, and data labeling.
Champion frontend best practices. Modernize our stack to standardize our UIs, prototype faster, and deploy useful apps for our geologists and data scientists. Mentor junior developers.
Setup systems to automate the testing of our UIs.
Qualifications:
Experience in architecting, developing, and maintaining frontend applications that provide a rich user experience.
Experience in writing production-quality code that is correct, performant, scalable, and extensible.
Skilled with data visualization libraries (D3, Leaflet, etc).
Experience with the following: modern JavaScript tools (node.js, TypeScript, React, Angular, etc), modern deployment and cloud technologies, Python web frameworks (Django, Panel, Flask, etc), and classic frontend development (HTML, CSS, etc).
Bonus Qualifications
Experience with geospatial data and building map-based experiences.
Familiarity with containerization and container orchestration platforms, such as Docker, AWS ECS, Kubernetes, etc.
Experience with frontend automated-testing systems (Cypress, Selenium, etc).
A great candidate will also be:
Highly intellectually curious and eager to learn about all aspects of mineral exploration, particularly in the geology domain. Will be open to working directly with geologists in the field.
Excited to work on a wide range of problems in a dynamic work environment, to take on a wide range of responsibilities, and to learn new tech and science.
Keen not just to build cool technology, but to figure out what technical product to build to best achieve the business objectives of the company.
A strong communicator who enjoys working with colleagues across the company.
This position is Full-time.
The US base salary range for this full-time exempt position is $160,000 - $240,000.
Location: Remote, Candidates can be located anywhere in the United States or Canada. All candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States or Canada.
What to Expect
Joining KoBold means getting the opportunity for hands-on exposure to our exploration projects around the world. All employees are expected to travel to project sites, with a minimum of one week per year. Field-facing and technical roles spend significantly more time in the field.

About The Role:
In this role, you will develop state of the art instruments to collect data to guide our exploration programs. You will simulate, characterize, and calibrate sensor performance and design new data acquisition systems. Working with vendors and partners, you will build hardware and work with our operations staff to deploy it in the field.
With this sensor data and other data sources at KoBold, you will build models and apply a wide range of scientific computing, statistical, and physics-based methods to find places where there is evidence of ore-forming processes at work and to predict the locations of ore-grade mineralization in 2D and 3D. You will help build a worldwide dataset that underlies our exploration program, with careful attention to identifying and quantifying uncertainty in the data and in our predictions. You will be creating models and developing software to accelerate discovery of critical battery metals.
You will join an outstanding team of data scientists and engineers and will work closely with KoBold’s world-renowned geoscientists to incorporate our best understanding of the chemical and physical processes that create ore deposits. Working with your geoscience colleagues, you will identify new opportunities and technologies for geophysical data collection, create 2D and 3D geologic predictions, identify exploration targets, design field programs to collect data, and use that data to reduce the uncertainty in our predictions and guide the next phase of field work.
Ultimately, your role is to help KoBold make valuable discoveries by building and deploying next generation hardware and using data tools to solve scientific problems. As one of the early members of this team, you will help build these tools from the ground up.
Responsibilities of this position include:
Technical execution
Design, develop, and deploy new mineral exploration data collection instruments and methods.
Help develop KoBold’s proprietary software exploration tools.
Find and curate a wide variety of geospectral, geophysical, geochemical, geologic, and geographic data and integrate it into KoBold’s proprietary data system.
Build models to make statistically valid predictions about the locations of compositional anomalies within the Earth’s crust.
Create effective visualizations for evaluating model performance and enabling rapid interaction with the underlying data and key features.
Develop and apply a range of data processing, statistical, and physics-based techniques to geoscientific data — from computer vision to geophysical inversions — and use the results to guide our targeting efforts and inform our acquisition and exploration decisions.
Present to and collaborate with our external partners and stakeholders.
Push the state of the art in analysis capabilities by implementing statistically rigorous spatially aware clustering, anomaly detection, and other analysis methods
Collaborate with data scientists, geoscientists and engineers to invent and deploy algorithms that combine large and complex data sets for mineral exploration and discoveries
Qualifications
Demonstrated ability to quickly absorb and synthesize complex information, with a track record of high intellectual rigor in a professional setting.
Exceptional curiosity and eagerness to learn, with a proactive approach to exploring new concepts and technologies.
A successful track record of developing complex equipment with cross-disciplinary teams and vendors.
Technical skills, including extensive experience with:
Physical measurement and data analysis systems that use phenomena such as optics, electromagnetism, radiation, and gravity.
Applying scientific knowledge to identify and prototype emerging technologies
Systems integration and data acquisition.
Python’s data science packages and general software engineering practices.
Collaborative software development (git), and familiarity with software engineering best practices like unit test / integration test suites, and CICD pipelines.
SQL, as well as familiarity with non-relational databases.
Cloud computing resources.
Building a wide variety of predictive models, applying them to different problems, and evaluating and interpreting the results.
Data analysis, physics analysis, and applied statistics on a broad range of types of data including data from physical systems.
Capacity to dive deep on novel challenging problems in applying ML to mineral exploration, including understanding a complex domain of geology and mineral exploration practices as well as working with limited, disparate and noisy data sources
Experience deploying sensors in the field
Work practices and motivation:
Ability to take ownership and responsibility of large projects.
Intellectual curiosity and eagerness to learn about all aspects of mineral exploration, particularly in the geology domain. Open to working directly with geologists in the field. Enjoys constantly learning such that you are driving insights and innovations.
Ability to explain technical problems to and collaborate on solutions with domain experts who aren’t software developers. A strong communicator who enjoys working with colleagues across the company.
Excitement about joining a fast-growing early-stage company, comfort with a dynamic work environment, and eagerness to take on a range of responsibilities.
Keen not just to build cool technology, but to figure out what technical product to build to best achieve the business objectives of the company.
Ability to independently prioritize multiple tasks effectively.
It is also helpful but not required to have experience with:
Remote sensing
Creating machine learning models on geospatial data
Image processing or computer vision
Project and team management
What to Expect
Joining KoBold means getting the opportunity for hands-on exposure to our exploration projects around the world. All employees are expected to travel to project sites, with a minimum of one week per year. Field-facing and technical roles spend significantly more time in the field.

About the Role
KoBold is hiring a Sr. Finance Manager to help grow our financial planning and analysis function.
The right candidate will combine deep FP&A expertise with strong strategic instincts, analytical rigor, and management experience. We are looking for someone who can make meaningful individual contributions, while also building on existing systems and processes, developing and growing the team, and creating a FP&A organization capable of supporting KoBold’s next phase of growth.
Reporting to the VP of Finance, this role will lead a small team working across KoBold’s global operations, including exploration programs, mine development, and corporate functions. You will be part of building durable systems that allow small, highly capable teams to support an ever increasing scope and eventually an IPO. We are looking for someone who approaches problems with creativity and optimism, who looks to process improvements, automation, AI-enabled workflows, and better systems.
The day-to-day environment at KoBold is dynamic. Success requires a leader who brings structure to complexity, holds teams accountable, and maintains momentum amid change.
The best candidate will continuously learn about and deeply understand KoBold's technology and operations, designing financial processes that enable the business.
Responsibilities
Financial Planning and Analysis
Own cash forecasting including quarterly and annual spend predictions, working with leaders across the company to build bottoms-up estimates and create a clear understanding of how actual cash spend is allocated across the business (e.g., exploration, R&D, resource development, G&A, etc.)
Develop analytical models that help inform decision making and/or identify explicit or implicit cost improvement opportunities. Work closely with operations and technical teams to share these insights and implement change
Produce clear, actionable reporting that translates financial data into usable information that helps leaders manage their spend
Build and maintain a single source of truth for financial data, partnering with accounting and data teams to ensure integrity across systems
Lead the business justification process across the business and ensure that KoBold is being as efficient and effective as possible in allocating capital across its programs and teams
Operational Engagement and Cost Discipline
Develop a deep understanding of KoBold’s technical operations — how exploration programs are run, what mine development looks like, and what drives cost — and use that understanding to improve team effectiveness and challenge or inform cost assumptions
Build strong working relationships with operational leaders across the company and serve as a finance partner who understands their work
Help create the right performance metrics and create the reporting and processes required to drive accountability
Conduct detailed variance analysis and help teams understand their spend and course correct as necessary
Systems and Automation
Assess, select, and design of FP&A systems and tools—both third-party and in-house, custom-built tools—to support a rapidly growing, global business with complex operations
Drive automation and implement AI-enabled workflows that reduce manual work, improve forecast accuracy, and keeps the team lean
Build scalable processes and reporting infrastructure, fostering a culture that treats process improvement as essential work key to future success
Leadership, Culture, and Business Partnership
Continue to develop a small, high-performing FP&A team, setting high standards and building capability
Communicate financial insights clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences, from field operators to the executive leadership team
Support IPO readiness efforts by building FP&A capabilities appropriate for a public company
Qualifications
A great candidate:
8+ years of FP&A or corporate finance experience, ideally including time in a capital-intensive, operationally complex business (mining, manufacturing, aerospace, energy, or similar)
Has experience managing small efficient teams in dynamic, high-growth environments with a high degree of accountability and execution quality
Brings strong cross-functional communication and ability to align finance with commercial and operational needs
Has demonstrated experience evaluating and deploying finance technology platforms, and is excited about applying AI to FP&A workflows
Is curious to learn about all aspects of our business, including travel to exploration field operations and mine development operations
Deeply engages on technical matters with technical colleagues; is uninhibited about asking probing questions of experts outside their domain
Demonstrates integrity, strong judgment, and comfort operating with urgency and precision
Brings advanced Excel financial modeling skills and direct experience working with ERP systems; SQL or Python comfort a strong plus
Strong communication with ability to build well synthesized narratives that help leaders across all disciplines better understand their work
A high degree of independence and the ability to work effectively with limited supervision
Is a creative problem solver who works hard, holds high standards, and treats people with respect and care
Feels energized by KoBold's mission, bringing optimism that lifts the team and builds belief

If you believe you belong to any of the categories of protected veterans listed below, please indicate by making the appropriate selection. As a government contractor subject to the Vietnam Era Veterans Readjustment Assistance Act (VEVRAA), we request this information in order to measure the effectiveness of the outreach and positive recruitment efforts we undertake pursuant to VEVRAA. Classification of protected categories is as follows:
A "disabled veteran" is one of the following: a veteran of the U.S. military, ground, naval or air service who is entitled to compensation (or who but for the receipt of military retired pay would be entitled to compensation) under laws administered by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs; or a person who was discharged or released from active duty because of a service-connected disability.
A "recently separated veteran" means any veteran during the three-year period beginning on the date of such veteran's discharge or release from active duty in the U.S. military, ground, naval, or air service.
An "active duty wartime or campaign badge veteran" means a veteran who served on active duty in the U.S. military, ground, naval or air service during a war, or in a campaign or expedition for which a campaign badge has been authorized under the laws administered by the Department of Defense.
An "Armed forces service medal veteran" means a veteran who, while serving on active duty in the U.S. military, ground, naval or air service, participated in a United States military operation for which an Armed Forces service medal was awarded pursuant to Executive Order 12985.

OMB Control Number 1250-0005
Expires 07/31/2029
Why are you being asked to complete this form?
We are a federal contractor or subcontractor. The law requires us to provide equal employment opportunity to qualified people with disabilities. We have a goal of having at least 7% of our workers as people with disabilities. The law says we must measure our progress towards this goal. To do this, we must ask applicants and employees if they have a disability or have ever had one. People can become disabled, so we need to ask this question at least every five years.
Completing this form is voluntary, and we hope that you will choose to do so. Your answer is confidential. No one who makes hiring decisions will see it. Your decision to complete the form and your answer will not harm you in any way. If you want to learn more about the law or this form, visit the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) website at www.dol.gov/ofccp.
How do you know if you have a disability?

Position:
Fully funded 3-year postdoctoral fellowship at Stanford Mineral-X, advised by Prof. Jef Caers, in collaboration with KoBold Metals, developing and deploying new methods for critical mineral exploration and resource definition. The scholar will develop and apply AI, muon tomography, seismic imaging, and geophysical inversion methods to discover and characterize copper, nickel, lithium, cobalt, and rare earth deposits using real exploration data from active field programs. More information here: https://postdocs.stanford.edu/postdoc-admins/policy/funding-rates-and-guidelines.
Research Scope
Multi-physics inversion: Develop stochastic and ensemble inversion frameworks that jointly assimilate muon flux, seismic (active-source, passive, DAS), magnetics, gravity, and EM data into 3D subsurface property models with calibrated uncertainty.
Muon tomography: Forward modeling, sensor placement optimization, and inversion of cosmic-ray muon attenuation data from borehole and surface detectors to constrain ore body density at depth.
Machine learning for geoscience: Apply deep generative models, geostatistical priors, and physics-informed neural networks to regional-to-deposit-scale targeting and resource estimation. Build pipelines that respect geological process constraints rather than purely data-driven correlations.
Decision under uncertainty: Extend Mineral-X’s intelligent agent framework to sequential data acquisition decisions (drill hole placement, geophysical survey design) that maximize information value per dollar.
Required Qualifications
PhD (fully completed, and within 4 years of graduation) in physics, applied physics, geophysics, computational earth sciences, machine learning, applied mathematics, or related field.
Strong Python proficiency (NumPy, PyTorch or JAX, scientific stack); experience with HPC, GPU computing, and reproducible research workflows.
Track record of publishing in peer-reviewed venues and willingness to engage directly with industry collaborators and field data.
Preferred Qualifications
Demonstrated research output in at least two of: geophysical inversion, Bayesian/probabilistic methods, deep learning, particle physics detection, or seismic imaging.
Experience with muon transport simulation (GEANT4, CORSIKA), distributed acoustic sensing, or full-waveform inversion.
Familiarity with mineral systems, ore deposit geology, or exploration workflows.
Prior work with diffusion models, normalizing flows, or generative models.
Terms & Application
Term: Three years, fully funded. Competitive Stanford postdoctoral salary plus medical, dental, vision, and conference travel support.
Location: Stanford, CA. Periodic travel to industry partner sites and field programs.
Start: Preferably Aug 1, 2026
Salary: $80,000 - $90,000
