Commercial Counsel
RunwayML · United States
Pay
$190k–230k
Setting
Remote
We are building AI to simulate the world through merging art and science.
We believe that world models are at the frontier of progress in artificial intelligence. Language models alone won’t solve the world’s hardest problems – robotics, disease, scientific discovery. Real progress requires models that experience the world and learn from their mistakes, the same way that humans do. And this kind of trial and error can be massively accelerated when done in simulation, rather than in the real world.
World models offer the most clear path to general-purpose simulation, changing how stories are told, how scientific progress is made and how the next frontiers of humanity are reached.
Our team consists of creative, open minded, caring and ambitious people who are determined to change the world. We aspire to continuously build impossible things and our ability to do so relies on building an incredible team. If you are driven to do the same, we'd love to hear from you.
ABOUT THE ROLE
*Preference for NYC/Eastern Time Zone, but open to hiring in our SF and Seattle offices as well as remote across the US
Join the frontier of shaping generative AI video and its legal landscape as an early lawyer at Runway. We are looking to hire a Commercial Counsel who has a strong background in B2B SaaS customer negotiations and strategic IP-heavy partnerships. You are a self-starter who thrives at getting things done in fast-paced, unstructured environments. You have a passion for helping companies build and bringing scalable initiatives across our commercial and other legal workstreams.
While the role is in large part focused on the commercial legal function, you might also bring to the table generalist experience across domains such as data privacy, vendor negotiations, and compliance. You will serve as a strategic thought partner to cross-functional teams from sales to partnerships to marketing and to the Runway Executive Team. Comfort working within a highly technical, rapidly evolving area of the law is a must.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
- Lead negotiations with Runway’s customers and strategic partners. These include B2B SaaS customer contracts for our generative AI SaaS platform and APIs, DPAs, partnership agreements, and vendor agreements.
- Implement commercial processes, tools, and infrastructure to help us scale, including improving templates, playbooks, and our legal tech stack
- Empower the sales team with tools and knowledge to close deals quickly
- Dive into the technical aspects of our generative AI products to learn them inside and out, to inform your advice to the business
- Closely follow technical, legal, and policy developments in the generative AI space
- Manage outside counsel as appropriate
WHAT YOU’LL NEED
- A J.D. and admission in good standing with at least one state bar
- 6+ years of experience negotiating complex commercial contracts, including significant experience on a commercial legal team at a fast-paced late stage private or mid-sized public B2B SaaS company
- In addition to B2B SaaS customer contract negotiations, experience with strategic IP-heavy partnerships and preferably B2C legal issues as well
- Strong business acumen
- The capacity to think big; a bias for action; and a willingness to take ownership
- Growth mindset that prioritizes continuous operational improvement and service excellence
- Experience with scaling business processes globally and operating in environments that have achieved significant scale
- Excitement about generative AI and motivation to continuously learn more about the legal landscape governing a new and exciting industry
- Nice to have: experience managing privacy programs relating to marketing, users, and enterprise customer/vendor agreements
Runway strives to recruit and retain exceptional talent from diverse backgrounds while ensuring pay equity for our team. Our salary ranges are based on competitive market rates for our size, stage and industry, and salary is just one part of the overall compensation package we provide.
There are many factors that go into salary determinations, including relevant experience, skill level and qualifications assessed during the interview process, and maintaining internal equity with peers on the team. The range shared below is a general expectation for the function as posted, but we are also open to considering candidates who may be more or less experienced than outlined in the job description. In this case, we will communicate any updates in the expected salary range.
Lastly, the provided range is the expected salary for candidates in the U.S. Outside of those regions, there may be a change in the range, which again, will be communicated to candidates.

ABOUT THE ROLE
*Open to hiring remote across North America + Europe — we also have offices in NYC, San Francisco, and Seattle
We are hiring for our first Developer Relations lead. This role is for someone who lives at the intersection of code and creativity – deeply technical, genuinely plugged into the generative AI space, and excited to build the developer community around putting frontier media models to use. This is a high-ownership, high-visibility role with real influence over how developers experience Runway. You will own the end-to-end developer experience – driving awareness, activation, and long-term engagement among the creative technologists and engineers building on the Runway Dev platform. Success in this role requires a blend of technical depth, creative sensibility, and a genuine enthusiasm for where generative AI is going.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
- Produce Content That Gets Developers Building
- Produce high-quality tutorials, demos, sample repos, and technical walkthroughs that showcase what's possible with media models
- Own social and X content strategy for the developer audience – rapid demos, creative experiments, prompting tips, and technical threads
- Run regular developer communications including email newsletters, changelogs, and recurring developer office hours
- Prototype creative, targeted content that meets developers where they are
- Build & Energize the Creative Developer Community
- Lead hackathons, sponsorships, and developer events end-to-end – from concept and logistics to execution and follow-through
- Build and nurture a community of creative technologists, researchers, and developers pushing the boundaries of generative video and image
- Represent Runway at conferences, meetups, and online communities; be a recognizable and trusted presence in the generative AI developer ecosystem
- Surface developer sentiment, emerging use cases, and market signals back to internal teams to inform product direction
- Optimize the Developer Funnel.
- Optimize the full developer funnel from awareness to activation; drive adoption and engagement across our Runway Dev user base with a structured, data-informed engagement strategy
- Partner with product & design to create onboarding experiences that get developers from zero to their first successful API build in minutes
- Identify high-potential developers through usage and spend signals and route them into the right engagement tracks
- Track, analyze, and report on developer funnel metrics and API engagement using BI tools and data
- Champion Developers Internally
- Serve as the primary point of contact for the developer community; be genuinely accessible, responsive, and useful
- Build a tight, structured feedback loop between developers and the Product and Engineering teams – surface trends, flag blockers, and advocate for developer needs
- Partner with Marketing and GTM to create developer-focused activation campaigns that resonate with a technical, creative audience
- Define and track success metrics tied to developer activation, API engagement, and community growth
WHAT YOU’LL NEED
- 5+ years in developer relations, developer advocacy, or a highly technical, community-facing role; ideally within AI/ML, creative tech, or a research-adjacent organization
- Deep, hands-on familiarity with generative video and image models; you've built with them, you experiment constantly, and you follow this space closely
- Comfort operating in a startup environment. You've built programs, communities, or developer motions from scratch and know how to create structure and momentum without a playbook to follow.
- Strong engineering fundamentals: you can build demos independently, debug API integrations, and speak credibly with technical audiences
- A genuine creative sensibility – you understand the needs of designers, filmmakers, and creative technologists, not just traditional software engineers, and you move fluidly between those worlds
- Proven track record of driving developer community growth and API adoption with measurable outcomes
- Experience producing developer-facing content across formats: documentation, video demos, short-form social, and live technical presentations
- Deep enthusiasm for generative AI; you stay close to the technology, build with it, and have a strong point of view on where it's going

This is a rare PM role with true vertical ownership across the full product lifecycle; from early-stage research and pre-training through to post-training and UX buildout through to GTM strategy and pricing - giving the right person a GM-like mandate to drive product decisions end-to-end in a way that's unique for a company of our scale.
We’re looking for a passionate Product Manager to help us develop cutting-edge AI tools. This role is a fundamental and critical part of the team for a market-defining company in its early stages.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
- Work alongside our research team to define new AI applications that solve customer needs and drive business value

WHAT YOU’LL NEED
- 1+ years of direct experience with SQL, python, code generation tools, and version control best practices
- 4+ years of product management experience
- Familiarity with the current state-of-the-art ML capabilities and ML products
- Experience working with fast-moving teams and building products from scratch
- Passion for seeing research through from initial conception to ultimate application
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills

- Comfort working with creative tools in addition to Runway (Adobe, DaVinci Resolve etc), as well as an understanding of our technical and competitive landscape
- You love sharing and presenting the things you’ve built
- Ability to deliver complex information to customers in a clear and concise way
- Ability to thrive in a constantly changing and growing environment
- Excitement about AI and motivation to continuously learn more about this new and exciting space!

Data Analytics Leader

Preferable to have someone near an office in NYC or San Francisco, but open to hiring around the US for the right candidate.
Runway runs on data. We have a fast-growing self-serve business, an expanding enterprise motion, and millions of creators generating an extraordinary volume of signal every day. What we don't yet have is a dedicated data leader. Today analytics is distributed across product, engineering, and finance — good instincts, real numbers, but no single owner of the definitions, no semantic layer everyone trusts, and no system that lets any person at Runway get a reliable answer without asking someone first.
We're hiring a Data Analytics Leader to own that end-to-end. This is our first data hire. You'll own the metrics that define the business, build the semantic and AI foundations that make data genuinely self-serve, and push insights onto teams rather than waiting for requests.
You'll start as the primary IC, writing queries and models yourself, and grow a small, high-caliber analytics team as the surface area expands.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
- Build the AI foundations for self-serve data. Stand up the semantic/metrics layer that serves as the single source of truth for both humans and natural-language agents, and the tooling on top of it so anyone at Runway can ask a question in plain language and get a correct, governed answer. This is the highest-leverage part of the role.
- Own the numbers. Define and steward Runway's core metrics — self-serve ARR and funnel, enterprise usage, retention, cohort economics, unit costs — so there is one trusted answer to every important question about the business.
- Push insights, don' just take orders. Proactively surface where the business is leaking, where a cohort is behaving strangely, and where the next 0→1 opportunity is hiding.
- Own the analytics stack. Our stack is ClickHouse, Mixpanel, dbt, Dagster, Airbyte, Fivetran, Kinesis, and Python. You'll shape the modeling layer, governance, and instrumentation standards, and make sharp calls about how to build better systems.
- Build the team. Start hands-on as the DRI, then hire and develop analysts as the business scales. Set the bar for what good analytical work looks like at Runway.
WHAT YOU’LL NEED
- 8+ years in data/analytics, including time as the most senior data person in a fast-moving company. A track record of analysis that changed product and company decisions.
- Genuinely hands-on. You are fluent in SQL and Python and you can steer your agents to generate high quality insights. You are excited by being the person who builds the first models and answers the first questions.
- Deep modern data stack proficiency. dbt and warehouse modeling are second nature; experience with ClickHouse, product analytics tools like Mixpanel, and orchestration (Dagster/Airflow) is a strong plus.
- Semantic layer and AI-native data experience. You've built — or are hungry to build — the metrics layer and agentic tooling that lets non-technical people and LLMs query data safely and correctly.
- Business fluency. You think in terms of revenue, retention, margin, and unit economics. You're comfortable working directly with finance and leadership, and you know when to run the multi-week analysis versus the napkin math that unblocks a decision today.
- Comfort with rapid pace and high accountability culture. You move fast, decide with incomplete information, and default to shipping.
- Excellent written and verbal communication. You can turn a messy question into a sharp, written answer that a non-technical audience acts on.
